King still sounds amazing nearly 40 years later. Sleepless Nights Live at the Fillmore is a banger. Nothing wrong with the Darkness Permission to Land i listened to it non stop the year it came out. 😁

Yes! Great reaction! King Diamond is one of my metal heroes. I’ve been fan of Mercyful fate since I first heard them when I was 11/12. When KD left and formed his own band I ran to the record store as soon his first album came out. His unique voice also makes him or loved or hated and there no real in between. Love it that you dig his voice 😀!
Brilliant reaction Melisa. King Diamond has some really great live performances. Songs for the Dead: Live at The Fillmore in Philadelphia from 2015 is excellent if you are looking for a full live show. A few songs that have probablly been recommended to follow-up this reaction would be "Abigail," "Sleepless Nights," or "Welcome Home." Edit: You'll probably also get suggestions to react to Diamond's other band Mercyful Fate. I would personally start with "Evil" or "Melissa" but that is just me.
Never apologize for liking what you like! One of the endearing things I like about your channel is the fact that you are just "discovering" a lot of new music and learning to love and appreciate things outside your comfort zone. Sometimes I wish I could go back and experience some of these bands for the first time as well. I think that's the main appeal of reaction channels to begin with. At least for me it is! Keep on your journey. P.S. The Darkness is AWESOME! and King Diamond definitely has a lot of influence in the metal community. Maybe not as much as Alice Cooper (speaking of theatrics!) but still.
As someone with a background as a horror fan, I know how important Hammer Films have been to its history. When it comes to the history of metal, I always feel surprised that high-pitched male voices have been so accepted in such a masculine genre. But I’m glad they are, so there can be singers like Rob Halford, Dani Filth and King Diamond.
@@SoulSingerDiscovers the next one is going to be Melissa you’re gonna love it. There are two Melissa’s songs in different times. One in the 80’s and the other in the 90’s enjoy it.
Fair play to you fir jumping in the deep end so early on. King Diamond is a hidden gem in the Metal World for beginners. Yer enthusiasm, reactions and comments about his voice and style are brilliant. Welcome to the Coven! I've said it before Melisa, YOU are most welcome to our wee community. You are a Metalhead at heart. Embrace yer inner metalhead and enjoy the journey. You should try Mercyful Fate (before King Diamond went solo). "Curse of the Pharaohs", "Into the Coven" or "Melissa" are a nice wee starting point. "Welcome Home" from his solo album Them is a nice wee belter too. Oh aye, Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth (COF), looks and sounds like his bastard son😂😂😂🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
Honestly it’s been an absolute joy to discover with you guys. The music is blowing my mind and after a long time in music it really does take a lot. I will immediately add these to the list, there’s gonna be a lot more king diamond to come 😊❤️
I know I’m five months late but you were made for King Diamond. As a horror fan you would just adore this full story. Since Halloween is just days away, now is the perfect time to go to Wikipedia and read the full story the album tells. Trust me on this.
Yes, a live KD show, maybe not the whole 2 hours in one shot, but maybe two or three songs per video. Or, you could review the album Melissa by Mercyful Fate which features a young King Diamond, a bit more raw and less refined than how he is in his solo venture.
Let's not forget that the grammys gave a metal category win to Jethro tull. In live performances he normally has his wife on backing vocals to give that second high pitched voice but she's usually off stage.😮
That is when I started to care about the grammies 😮 also when Ozzy won one. Deen Castronove did vocals for Reveloution Saints not Glenn Hughes. Supertramp was lady Di's fav band. Roger Hodgsom another unique voice in rock. Yes Jon Anderson until Drama which is actually my favorite yes album. All good people for yes more folk than rock. For Supertramp I recommend in the eye of the storm sorry Di as this is Hodgson solo. 1st track had a dream not finding the song that got radio play when he left Supertramp. Vocals have not kicked in yet. Recommending from peanut gallery comments.
As a Dane myself I consider King Diamond the undisputed KING of metal. He just never fails to amaze and his shows are always impressive AF! even now at +60 he sounds so great!
Really glad you did King Diamond!! Grew up listening to King Diamond and got to see his concert in ‘89. Very theatrical, like Alice Cooper on steroids. Check out any videos from the live Fillmore concert or the whole thing!
Amazing show! Show was delayed because people were busting up the barricades to get closer to the stage. Like in the Conspiracy story, at the end of the concert, they placed King in a casket and lit it on fire. After finishing the last song, they opened the casket and he was gone. He then came out from backstage and thanked the crowd. Quite a way to end a show!
I joined the cult in 1985 when I discovered merciful fate. Then saw him live at the Manatee County Civic Center in Florida 1987 on the Abigail tour. I was front row with bruises on my ribs from the fencing. His cross made of bones, I could touch if I wanted to. One of the best concert experiences of my life. I was 15. 🤘🏼
If I experience something that awesome at the age of 15, I would be worried the rest of my life will be let down. What an amazing time to see the band. Thank you so much for watching my dude 😊
I never really appreciated King Diamond as kid, although he has definitely grown on me in my adulthood. Fun Fact: During the 80s Satanic Panic, King Diamond was one of the few (if not the only) actual Satanists out of all the targeted Metal Bands. There is a really good interview with King Diamond floating around the youtubes from the 80s where he talks about it.
YES!!! Finally!!! You know what? King Diamond Live at The Fillmore, whole live show. You must! Sorry, but you simply must. Don't have to record a reaction. Just for yourself. Top notch experience and performance. Love your vids! ❤
Melisa, have you ever heard of an artist named Dimash qudaibergen...?Not a metal singer but he is one the best singers in the world, maybe the best singer in the world today.....If you have free time, react to him as well...I was in awe and was blown and amazed by how many vocal techniques he has up his sleeves in just one song
I saw him live back on the "Them" tour, I was front row and it was absolutely phenomenal. Late 80s I thinking and I still have the Tee shirt I bought at the show and my ticket
Discovered "Them" when I was 15 in '88. His is the only catalog I would save on an ark to Mars. If I wasn't married, and was 20 years younger, her passion for King would draw me to her like a moth. Might I recommend his earlier band from 83, Mercyful Fate, the album Melissa may also inspire...
Beautiful !!!🤙🤙🤟🤟 King is one of those vocalists that when you hear covers its just not the same his trills n fills fill in the song If u listen to the curse it's half of Mustains career right there
Who would’ve thought all these years ago when I was listening to some music that one day I would listen to me all music and really enjoy it. Strange times 😆
All hail the King!!! Melisa, if you liked King Diamond, you are going to love his other band Mercyful Fate. I’ve seen both bands many times in concert, and the King sounds just like that live. Back in the 1980’s he did some crazy live productions. But he still puts on a good show now. Yes, do the live show. That would be awesome to watch that with you.
@@SoulSingerDiscovers That sounds like a plan. Mercyful Fate started in the early 80’s, and they were very influential on a lot of today’s hard rock and heavy metal bands. And they were way more satanic than the King’s solo stuff.
The first guitar solo shows Michael Moon playing. He had only just joined when they did the video. The guitar solo was recorded by Michael Denner who left before the video was filmed. Denner was originally a member of the first Danish heavy band Brats and later Mercyful Fate. Moon only did the Abigail Tour in United States and Europe before being replaced by Pete Blakk
3 Inches of Blood is the love child of King Diamond & Rob Halford. I would 100% watch a 2 hour concert if it was filmed in Montreal I was probably there lol.
Excellent reaction! King Diamond is masterful, a living legend! You have to listen, react, analyze songs from two sacred albums, two masterpieces by the band Mercyful Fate (King Diamond on vocals): Melissa (1983) and Don't Break the Oath (1984). Greetings from Brazil!!!
Long Live the King!! I saw him last december here on my city, Monterrey Mexico with two anothers vocal monsters! Michael Sweet (Stryper) and Rob Halford (Judas Priest) an Awesome Show!! ❤ Hail to the King! Hail Satan!! Pd.- Stryper is a christian metal band but King and Sweet are True Friends since the 80s!!
My first comment was unclear, King Diamond and Mercyful Fate are two bands but both are fronted by King, he jumped back and forth between them but they are both his bands, he's the founder and leader. When he's touring with King Diamond Mercyful Fate is on hiatus, when he's touring with Mercyful Fate King Diamond is on a break, or rather the musicians he hired for each band take a break. It's kinda like Corey Taylor with Slipknot and Stone Sour. King is recording two albums simultaneously and will tour as the frontman for both of his bands.
As the holidays draw near, I strongly recommend King's first solo single, No Presents For Christmas - be SURE it is the STUDIO version! No live crap! The awesomeness of the studio recording can never be replicated live.... cos of that laugh... ho ho ho, that LAUGH...
@@SoulSingerDiscovers There are actually quite few "holiday metal" gems out there - many are covers of the traditional classics, but even some originals. Here are a couple more of those originals, if you wanna plan out a theme or mini-series that lasts a weekend or a work week or whatever : - Black Xmas by Venom - Christmas Mourning (Red Water) by Type O Negative - Little Drummer Boy (Christmas Again) by King Diamond - Christmas Ride by Fight (Rob Halford) If you include KD's No Presents For Christmas, you got a little 5-episode (Monday-to-Friday?) series... depending how often you upload, lol. If you enjoy that, then maybe you can give it another go and explore Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) during the holidays. They have 3 full concept albums' worth of holiday themed tunes alone. Lots of stuff to keep ya busy! 🙂 Assuming you're not already familiar with them? 😯
I used to drink beer, smoke weed and listen to King Diamond on my walkman, in the middle of the night, in the graveyard across the street where I lived at the time. Fog rolling in, so cool.
I listen to king diamond alot and never knew they got nominated for a grammy at all let alone 4. Also it's really nice people reacting to anything other than sleepless nights. A great song but they have so much better. Behind these walls is a great example😊
The very first time I heard King Diamond was when I borrowed the album "The Eye" on cassette from a friend many years ago. When I first heard his voice I laughed. It sounded hella comical to me lol. As the album went on I got to appreciate his voice more and more. "Abigail" is my favorite King Diamond album, then "The Eye".
It’s just shows such phenomenal chops for range but also arrangement. Harmonies can absolutely break or make a melody line. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for watching Rachel! 🥰💪
King was trained as an opera singer, tenor and falsetto. If he weren't in a metal band he would have followed in the footsteps of Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras aka The Three Tenors.
I think: Rob Halford was the 1st one to sing such high notes in metal. (I liked the early ones better.) But it triggered a change in that genre. I also think: (Warning: "sexual harresment!") watching your facial expression is phenomenal! King Diamond is surely "King", in singing such high notes, so much. I have a few CD's, here in my shelf. It is late in the evening. I'll be able to watch that life stream of yours, by now! 'Cant wait!
G'day Melisa!! Ive been enjoying your reactions for a while. Would love to hear you react to the Australia's John Farnham signing his version of The Beatles HELP live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. You will love John's voice, an amazing tenor with great range!
I was blessed to first hear him in 1986. I’ve never heard anything like him. Truly unique. I’ve been following his music (including Mercyful Fate) ever since.
Another cracking reaction. You need to sit down dark room with a stiff drink and listen to the Album Abigail by King Diamond - a "horror/thriller" concept album !! As for others, as said Judas Priest's Rob Halford has a similar style as does Michael Kiske of Helloween. You also need to check out Unleash the Archers with their singer Britney Slays, if Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson could have children it would be Britney !!!
A speechless Melisa, good god! King was totally unique. Nobody was doing what King was doing, totally blazing a new path. Let's watch a 2-hour concert. I agree; Justin must have been inspired by King and Freddie from Queen. Helloween to the shopping list if not already there. Until nextime time :-)
You miss out so much listening to just one King Diamond song at a time.. Out of those 12 albums, 10 of them are full concept albums.. they tell one long horror story.. the other 2 are "half concept" since the whole album doesn't tell one story.
@Paul Thoresen I was around 14-15ish when I bought the EP. It was the original Rave-On label release. Lol I rode my BMX bike all the way to to record store in the rain
@Melisa Kelly PHENOMENAL song. You should know that All of King's solo albums(except his first) are concept albums. If you like horror stories...listen from beginning to end
If you like Merciful Fate listen to King Diamond's The Bell Witch which is based on the Bell Witch from Adams Tennessee and for which the movie American Haunting was based on. Also King Diamond started off wearing makeup because he was inspired by Alice Cooper
Kim Bendix Petersen is 67 years old with an incredible range on vocals. He was originally a soccer player. He first started Mercyful Fate then it become Kind Diamond...
The makeup featured when he is on the throne like a "King" before his subjects is so odd tome - it's always been a black and white scheme, but this is black and red - I still can't get used to it and i am so glad he did not stick with it, lol. My favorite of his makeup designs is the Conspiracy/Eye era (1989-1992).
Do the 25 minute excerpt of the Mercyful Fate show from Wacken last year (his reunited first band). I love King Diamond but the guitar riffs of MF are something else.
In 1993, Rolling Stone magazine, named Andy Laroche, the lead guitarist for King, the Best metal are man for european/Scandinavian Metal, of All time!!!
So Mel, there are a few bands that sound similar to MF/KD. "Them" started off as a KD cover band and now have their own albums of original work. Dark Night from Brazil is also like KD but with a more positive message through horror.
There's nobody like King Diamond. Seeing him live is unreal and at times the funniest and most awesome sh■t I've ever seen. One show some guy in the front was being loud and obnoxious. In between songs he yelled something and King went "Who the f■ck said that?!" Everyone pointed. King walked up, point at him and said "I curse you! Just kidding... little curse." At another show he had a stage show with this woman running around the stage, in fear, asking the audience for help while they were playing. The band just stopped playing. King turns his head and looks at her. She clutches her stomach and falls to the floor. Her stomach started expanding and she started giving birth to demon babies from King Diamond looking at her. He just grabbed them and started tossing them into the crowd. I was literally in tears laughing my a■■ off! 🤣
@@SoulSingerDiscovers As you should be. 😉😁 But, no, really, if you ever get the chance go see him. He does cool stuff. He has this one song called Puppet Master where he goes up on a balcony above the stage and he bring people out who move like puppets and he's above them with their strings on his fingers looking like he's making them move while singing the entire time. He takes his stage shows very seriously and gives you your money's worth.

Here are a couple more of those originals, if you wanna plan out a theme or mini-series that lasts a weekend or a work week or whatever :
- Black Xmas by Venom
- Christmas Mourning (Red Water) by Type O Negative
- Little Drummer Boy (Christmas Again) by King Diamond
- Christmas Ride by Fight (Rob Halford)
If you include KD's No Presents For Christmas, you got a little 5-episode (Monday-to-Friday?) series... depending how often you upload, lol.
If you enjoy that, then maybe you can give it another go and explore Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) during the holidays.
They have 3 full concept albums' worth of holiday themed tunes alone. Lots of stuff to keep ya busy! 🙂
Assuming you're not already familiar with them? 😯
I used to drink beer, smoke weed and listen to King Diamond on my walkman, in the middle of the night, in the graveyard across the street where I lived at the time. Fog rolling in, so cool.
My did you have just described the best night out ever 😆 thank you so much for watching 😊
I listen to king diamond alot and never knew they got nominated for a grammy at all let alone 4. Also it's really nice people reacting to anything other than sleepless nights. A great song but they have so much better. Behind these walls is a great example😊
Thanks for watching Billy 😊💜
Oh I've been waiting for this .
And he never gets out of tune.
King Diamond’s band Mercyful Fate was formed in the early 80’s. Broke up after two studio albums.
Do the concert!! Just release one song at a time!! Melissa live is great!!
I agree 😊💪
Do the complete live from The Fillmore in Philly. Its fantastic
Yeah we definitely want to see the live one with you 🎉🎉 greetings from Bogotá, Colombia 🤘🏻
Yassss!!! 😊❤️
I can totally see why people would think that. I love it. It is both comical an incredibly impressive 😊
the King has so many great songs. seen em live once with Mercyful Fate and the show started with A Dangerous Meeting. was fantastic.
So jealous! Thanks for watching my dude 😊💜
You're awesome 😎 Great review❤
Thank you so much my dude 🥰
If you watch the entire concert King Diamond Live at the Fillmore, I will absolutely watch that with you. Fuck Yeah!!!
Woohoo!! 😊💪
@@SoulSingerDiscovers sooooo, when are we doing this? Some of us are waiting patiently. Lol
And if you're a Mom, Happy Mother's Day to you.
His vocal harmonies are ridiculously good. No one talks about that
It’s just shows such phenomenal chops for range but also arrangement. Harmonies can absolutely break or make a melody line. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for watching Rachel! 🥰💪
should listen to their live .... wow . amazing even at 64 yrs old ..
Don’t you worry my dude! I love KD and I will be returning several times 😊
King was trained as an opera singer, tenor and falsetto. If he weren't in a metal band he would have followed in the footsteps of Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras aka The Three Tenors.
What an absolute legend 😊❤️
He isn’t professionally trained at all.
Watch the concert, it will be excellent. Lots of talent in his bands
Saw him in 2019. It's hard to believe, but he sounds even better live
I would watch that concert with you - it's glorious.
Yass! Thank you Peter :)
Do King Diamond Live at the Fillmore or Philadelphia !
Do Sleepless Nights or Abigail for individual songs!
Thanks
Sleepness nights from king diamond!!
He is also the lead singer of Mercyful Fate. You should check them out as well!!
Defo will :)
Welcome to my childhood 🤘🖤
Very good choice. I'd definitely suggest mercyful fate for the early king diamond vocals. Melissa is amazing
'Cant wait!
David Byron from Uriah Heep was singing vocal lines in the 5th Octave before Halford was
King diamond live is sublime!!!
Permission to Land is a heroic album. 🤘
I would definitely watch the entire Show with you! Make it so, my dear!
I will! 😊💜
I would’ve loved to have been there at the beginning of the band, but I’m glad I found them. Thanks so much for watching my dude 😊
I love that you found this 😅
10:23 Did you say you would fully prolapse? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As soon as I saw you put that cheesy clip of a guy getting his head popped off, I knew I was in for a fun video.
I can’t be counted on for a lot of things, but certainly for bad references 😆
A speechless Melisa, good god!
King was totally unique. Nobody was doing what King was doing, totally blazing a new path. Let's watch a 2-hour concert. I agree; Justin must have been inspired by King and Freddie from Queen. Helloween to the shopping list if not already there. Until nextime time :-)
Thank you my dude ❤️😊
You miss out so much listening to just one King Diamond song at a time..
Out of those 12 albums, 10 of them are full concept albums.. they tell one long horror story.. the other 2 are "half concept" since the whole album doesn't tell one story.
Heck yeah Melisa....so excited you finally got around to King. You HAVE to check out his band before his solo career...Mercyful Fate 🤘🤘🤘
As a matter of fact...Mercyful Fate did an album called "Melissa" lol
Cannot wait to listen to more. Glad you enjoyed it Pete! 😊
@Melisa Kelly You ALWAYS impress me with your content and openmindedness to all things music. Kudos to you gurly🤘🤘🤘
@@OGxCSH Melissa was pretty amazing at the time, as was "nuns Have no fun"
@Paul Thoresen I was around 14-15ish when I bought the EP. It was the original Rave-On label release. Lol I rode my BMX bike all the way to to record store in the rain
The epic bass during the bridge.
I’ll give you that I didn’t print out enough 😊
By the way, your personality is charming as all hell(all hell, get it?)
You have to check out "Sleepless Nights" by King Diamond!!!!!!!!!
Will do! 😊
Ah! Alice Cooper that makes sense. I’ll check it out, thanks my dude 😊👍
Kim Bendix Petersen is 67 years old with an incredible range on vocals. He was originally a soccer player. He first started Mercyful Fate then it become Kind Diamond...
Thank you for this my dude! Very informative 😊💪
Thanks for watching my dude, and thanks for the info :)
Just kidding... little curse."
At another show he had a stage show with this woman running around the stage, in fear, asking the audience for help while they were playing. 🤣
These gigs sound amazing! I am so jealous! 🥰
Really should do sleepless nights live at the fillmore
