I wish that too, but this game had only 151 Pokémon, while the new games has almost a thousand. That would´ve been too much to animate every attack on the game to each 806 Pokémon.
UrgotHasCancer, they don't have to animate every attack in the game. In the Stadium games each Pokemon has about a dozen animations (stuff like Ditto, Caterpie, Kakuna, etc. seem to only have about 3), and then they program each attack to each animation. So, for example, a lot of the Mega Kick animations you see here might also be used for Double Kick, (Hi) Jump Kick, Rolling Kick, Low Kick, maybe even moves like Counter or Stomp if the game designers think they fit. They don't make an individual animation for each move. Aerodactyl, for example, uses the same animation for both Wing Attack and Earthquake. Kangaskhan uses the same animation for both Surf and Thunder, Gastly uses the same animation for Lick, Psychic, Mega Drain, Thunderbolt, Self-Destruct and Confuse Ray iirc. Also, some of the moves don't even have animations, like some Pokemon when using stuff like Bind, Fly (charing turn), Hypnosis, Psychic, Sing, Night Shade, etc, just use their idle animations if they game designers think it fits. So it's not that difficult. It would be a challenge, sure, but it could be done. They just need to make even just 10 animations for each Pokemon, then it would be like "Projectile moves use animation 1, kicking moves use animation 2, punching moves use animation 3, running moves use animation 4, biting moves use animation 5, stat increase moves use animation 6", and so on (I'm over-simplifying it, in reality they did it individually for each Pokemon, so yeah, they might have to employ someone to spend a week deciding what animation goes best with each move on each Pokemon, but who cares, they spend months making these games and they have lots of money). I actually think it would probably be EASIER to do now! The improvements in technology over the past 20 years probably more than makes up for the increase in Pokemon and moves.
@Hash Frowns it had minigames, gym leader castle, GB towers, a photo mode etc. "just battles" is incredibly misleading and grossly over simplyfying the game
Nifty thing is in all previous 3d games wingull glides like that. A lot of it’s dex entries even used to mention how it normally doesn’t flap its wings it’s just glides on the air. So it’s not lazy animations or anything it’s literally how that Pokémon normally flies.
Hypno was the reason I made the video, I was casually playing a cup when I suddenly see one making that animation. I thought ohhh thats cool, I wonder what other animations different pokemon might have.
The fucking attention paid to detail. Kangaskhan drops her baby before doing the kick since she knows she will fall on her belly... Holy shit. Meanwhile, Gamefreak in 2019 gives us the minimum effort.
I love the fact some of them even perform a drop kick. It’s really sad a game nearly two decades ago have more expressive animations compared to Sword and Shield...as of E3 at least.
@@ijustbevibin0425 Which is sad, in all honesty since they are far better games. Pokémon seems to go backwards in taking advantage in powerful hardware.
I never realized as a kid that they actually made an effort for the animations to fit with the attacks. E.g., the Jynx and Kabutops animations are really cool but I don't know if they use them for another attack. Pretty impressive, I like it.
I don't think they do. I've never seen those two animations, so they're probably only for Mega Kick. It could be interesting to hack illegal moves like Double Kick onto them, they might use those animations for those moves. Most of the animations are used for a number of moves. Aerodactyl using Earthquake has the craziest animation in this game though! They changed it for Stadium 2.
I remember thanks to the vid why I loved Mega Kick Kabutops, Snorlax and LIckitung back in the day. Surprised how cool Hypno is, too.

I get animating moves can be hard and not that important, but it would be nice to see Pokemon actually having special animations for punch, kick, fang, tail and slash moves, as well as sound, bullet or psychic moves on the special side, and maybe even dance and protect animations. Seeing a Pokemon running to attack the foe and not just do the animation in the same spot is also a nice detail we've only had in very few games. Again, I know it's really hard to pull all of them for every Pokemon, but it would definitively be a really appreciated detail.
I think we've only had the running-up in one game. I wouldn't go as far as you suggest with the special and status moves. One is probably enough for all those to share. Punch/scratch, kick and tackle should be bare minimum, though.
Yeah, that’s the thing. At this point, there’s just way too many pokemon to try and do this sort of stuff with, but I think they could be done for just a few mons that would have an interesting animation idea. It also takes some time, and we know how much nintendo hates time…
There are over 800 new Pokemon, several hundred new moves, Compared to 151 pokemon and far fewer moves. Making animations specific to each pokemon for a particular move would be would incredibly difficult nowadays. On top of that they have to design and build a much bigger region/overworld compared to this game which is basically limited to just a stadium. I'm no one of those who think Gamefreak is immune to criticism, I just think that we should at least be realistic
@@valentineover9000 Except that they dont intend to include 800 pokemon into Sword/Shield.. if that were the case it might be understandable.. but they will prob only add 150-200ish mons.. so really there IS NO EXCUSE

I love how Wartortle’s kick is like “eh,” then it turns into Blastoise and it becomes “EGH!” You guys are complaining about the animations now in SnS, but you all should have been complaining since Gen 7. Maybe even in Gen 6 when ORAS came out.
XY has ten times more effort than Sun and Moon, because they had to use a whole new engine and new 3D models. In fact, XY has more effort than SwSh because they just reused the models and animations from previous games.
There are two differences with generation VIII: it’s on a different hardware, so better visuals are expected (including animations), and Game Freak said that the dexit was needed to add high-quality animations.
Notice how, even if a pokemon did not have a specific animation for the kick, they at least showed the special effect at a time appropriate for the animation they had- rather than just bouncing in place. Besides that, it's crazy how they went out of their way to show pokemon ACTUALLY USING THEIR LIMBS to coincide with the attack name. Nowadays, you have Scorbunny using his feet to Fire Punch, Wooloo headbutting with it's legs... ridiculous
It’s crazy how anybody could enjoy Pokémon black and white when the animations are horrible😂literally exactly what you said just bouncing in place with lame effects
I've saw this before but I hadn't noted Kangaskhan animation is sick as all fuck. Damn, her baby even goes off the pouch for her to do the kick, that's amazing.
And to think GameFreak said they're limiting the Pokémon in Galar because of "balancing" and wanting to provide more "fluid" animations when Scorbunny's double kick was just sad compared to this.
I know right? Pokemon is literally the highest grossing media franchise. They can EASILY afford better animations, or at least meet the bare-minimum requirement of having all the Pokemon in the game. It's ridiculous.

pokemon stadium: *has pokemon do a kick animation, while firing an effect to represent the kick, giving live to the combat* Pokemon sword and shield: We don't do that here
The reasons why this is impressive and the devs deserve respect: 1. They bothered making animations for almost every Pokémon who could learn this move. 2 - Most gen 1 Pokémon only had this single move as the one who would do this animation and they still cared. 3 - Many players wouldn't even see them due to Mega Kick being a bad move and easily replaced by most reliable ones BUT they still cared. 4 - It was this move that taught us Jynx had feet, and they are uglier than Oprah's feet. 5 - They even added a "double mega kick" for the Pokémon who used both legs.
Hey guys, I just woke up from a coma. If pokemon animations where like this back then, I sure can't wait for my copy of the newest game to arrive in the mail to see how great the new animations must be.
Sometimes the kicks don't make alot of sense... but still, weird animation is better than absolutely none while an orange foot appears. The foot isn't even shaped like the foot despite the fact that footprints are always in the pokedex!
I dont think anyone knows what the deal with Jynx is at this point. In at least one Stadium game, knocking Jynx out resulted in her body disappearing into her hair, which then fell to the ground. As if its body is just a mass of darkness emitted from its hair. The anime has shown it with feet before. And its 3d model now has it with spikes coming out of its dress for some reason. What even is Jynx?

Meh. Still not a good excuse. Pokémon Battle Revolution had 493 Pokémon and every single one had individual animations. And remember that Sword & Shield will cut the Pokédex in half. Gallade, using Close Combat, would run into his target and give it a violent punch. He doesn't hops in place while drawn humanoid feet and hands appear on the target. Blaziken using Double Kick would run at its target and kick it twice. Not hop in its place while a humanoid foot strikes the target. And Battle Revolution is a Nintendo Wii game.

Blame Town, The Anime, and The TCG as some of the few reasons swsh is the way it is now
@@carlitosbautista6400 SwSh has been in development since 2016 there is no excuse
@@ayindephulgence4950 i didnt say that they were the only reasons that swsh is bad right now, i agree that there is no excuse for those lazy animations and recycled models when the switch can handle hundreds of pokemon at once and have those terrible graphical errors, they could have changed the game before launch or delayed if the anime and tcg was dependent on it and maybe they wouldnt have had to delay at all if they didnt split their workforce instead of having everyone focused on swsh
TL;DR: I am not making excuses for gamefreak. I agree with you and everyones complaints about the games. Gamefreak needs to get their shit together
Snorlax uses mega kick, then earthquake as a bonus.
Imagine the combo
1:09 pokemon animations nowadays
This is miles better that the one we saw in Sword/Shield (double kick )
Not even hahahXD it's almost better 20 years ago
nah, you can see clefable lean back a bit.
Nice. lmao
That’s just Lord Helix being unfazed
I wish they put this much effort in animations in the newer pokemon games. The new animation pool is so limited, even if the games now are in 3D.
I wish that too, but this game had only 151 Pokémon, while the new games has almost a thousand. That would´ve been too much to animate every attack on the game to each 806 Pokémon.
Let's Go keeps the shitty non-animations with only 151 pokemon. Game Freak confirmed for lazy.
It doesn't matter. They could make the game heavier or delay the release date and make the animations better.
Even in the Pokémon Sword and Shield animations I’m noticing they’re not putting any effort, and it’s a Switch game... A SWITCH GAME!
It's sad when a game made 20 years ago has more effort in its animation than LGPE.

Yup. It looks like a security drone.
I wonder how many pokemon will be T-Posing in that game besides Wingull
@@M3rtyville none actually. luckily nobody cares about wingull so a stupid wingull animation should be the least of our problems
Nifty thing is in all previous 3d games wingull glides like that. A lot of it’s dex entries even used to mention how it normally doesn’t flap its wings it’s just glides on the air. So it’s not lazy animations or anything it’s literally how that Pokémon normally flies.

Snorlax's drop kick would crater a mountain
Sword and shield is at least better than the legends and scarlet games😂

Omg kabutops 😲😂😂 it wasn’t that good bro
i love how much the characters in the console games move, you can REALLY feel the impact on some of them, I hope this comes to the Switch eventually
Ahh, this aged like, actually this aged so badly I can't compare it to anything
Maybe in gen 10 or 11 xD
So many of these Pokemon likely don't have other kicking moves, so it's incredible that so many of them have an animation JUST for Mega Kick.
You don’t notice good animations as much as you notice shit ones, or lack thereof.
Damn HAL Laboratory can do better attack animations than GameFreak.
Those animations were quite good for 1998

Punch/scratch, kick and tackle should be bare minimum, though.
my friend Francisco 😁
i love you 🌷
Yeah, that’s the thing. At this point, there’s just way too many pokemon to try and do this sort of stuff with, but I think they could be done for just a few mons that would have an interesting animation idea. It also takes some time, and we know how much nintendo hates time…
There are people who are defending sword and shield's animations when this exists. Game freak has no excuses.
You can't make this shit up
Kangaskhan even left her baby on the ground to kick or Kabutops using its scythes to impulse.
And neither do the apologists.

You guys are complaining about the animations now in SnS, but you all should have been complaining since Gen 7. Maybe even in Gen 6 when ORAS came out.
True but I think people were passively excusing it back then because the games were on 3DS. We should have taken it as a warning sign, I agree.

But I don't want a- Nani?!
Scorbunny looked like fucking Emerald animation
@@soulwarsnerd Except the Gen 3 animations were awesome... for what they were. Like, consider Superpower for instance. In Gen 3, it was like the Pokemon was causing earthquakes to gather enough energy to fire it upon a poor fool.

Pokemon sword and shield: We don't do that here

0:35 Blastoise, you should get that checked.
The reasons why this is impressive and the devs deserve respect:

Wait, Jynx has legs?!? I always thought the "dress" was just a solid mass, like a slug or something!!!
MrTerminator3010 why did you say that
That thought is going to haunt me
I dont think anyone knows what the deal with Jynx is at this point.
We'll be lucky if the Pokémon even LIFT THEIR FOOT in Sword and Shield...
