To be fair, they kinda HAVE been doing this with the newer pokemon since Gen 6, but the older cries could definitely use an update. At the very least, Gen 1 and 2 pokemon should start using their stadium cries.
@@DinoJake The older cries did get an update. They've been adjusted and altered to sound like more realistic creatures if you compare gen 6 cries to gen 1 cries, while still sounding like fantaay creatures and keeping the tone of their original cry
Maybe they wanted to stay true to the mainline games' style for the cries. These ones in fact are more realistic and imo they accentuate less the uniqueness of the Pokémon
I love how these sound halfway between kaiju roars and the in-game cries I wish Game Freak used this style of cries for gen 6+. Imagine how awesome Pokemon like Banette, Cresselia, or Kricketune would sound

0:12 charizard is so cool and iconic that he doesn’t need stock sound effects to sound real I spoke too soon, all three squirtle lines did the same thing as charizard XD
I don't know if it's ever been confirmed or touched on by the devs, but these are so close in terms of timing and tone that I'm convinced that these are the original sounds for the first games that were heavily compressed to gameboy standards, Nintendo used stock sound effects liberally back then so it's not so farfetch'd (I hated that pun as much as you)
Masuda has said on multiple occasions that he made the sounds from scratch on the GB. Bulbasaur was the first cry he ever made and the one he was most proud of because he thought it felt the most animal-like at the time.
@@kanpaifighto Even if the sounds were made from scratch on the GB, there's a possibility that they might have used these realistic cries as the original blueprint/inspiration. It would explain why they sound so similar, despite the N64 cries being stitched together from stock sound effects. On a side note, Masuda did compress Ikue Ōtani's voice for Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow, so what the OP suggested isn't that implausible.
Light Fox 101 Yellow came later, while Gold and Silver were already being developed. It borrowed the voice code from Pokémon Pinball, which also came much later. You’re kind of missing the fact that these aren’t just stock sound effects, they are stock sound effects that are heavily modified to sound like the Gameboy sounds. These are not the blue print, it’s the other way around. That’s how sound design literally works. None of these sounds are pulled directly from stock libraries as-is. The updated cries in Gen 6 are all made from stock sounds and random DAW presets, but no one comes to the conclusion that they’re the original source.
While not all of these were perfect (the Eeveelutions in particular could have used a little more work) they were certainly much better than the bitcrushed audio remakes GameFreak introduced in gen 6. Especially Haunter’s...

Granted, there are a lot more Pokemon now then there were back in the 90s, but I don't think it would be _that_ difficult to make cries like these for em' all.
I agree, these sounds are darn good, a shame they didn't keep them, as for the better animation part, we "recently" got SwSh and it was a big letdown, time and Pokémon number isn't an excuse, because we have Battle Revolution which has roughly the same number of Pokémon as SwSh and has much better animations and real scaling, it plays better and even graphically looks better, and worse it that is just a spin-off...
@@SilverDusk1 iirc, the X&Y models were done in higher polycounts and then scaled back to be less detailed, SM&UsUm had the same scaled back models and Let's go and SwSh had the non-scaled ones, after X&Y they didn't do much apart from the models for new Pokémon, they had everything done yet they held half the Pokémon back to paywall their appearance in SwSh either through the DLCs or the 3-4 subscriptions required to transfer them.
