God the story of fallout 1 is so damn tragic. Just seeing the vault dweller walk away from his home with his head hung low after everything he did for them is so iconic and devastating.
Considering the state of the world by the time of fallout 1, the idea that someone eventually reached the level of personal stability to take time to write their memoirs is a huge step towards winning back civilization for the fallout setting.
I have to say the main two characters that have the saddest endings to a story is “the vault dweller” and “the sole survivor”. The vault dweller is rejected by the overseer after all the heroic deeds he’s done. he’s forced to leave his home. The sole survivor loses everything from his past, including his family. At least there’s a silver lining for both. The vault dweller and the sole Survivor have a new family in the wasteland.
The vault dwellers fate isn't so bad. Half the population of the vault desert the Vault in protest of his exile and join him in the wasteland where they found the tribal village of Arroyo. The vault Dweller marries one and starts a family. The Sole Survivor has it much worse.
@@Edithae oh yeah that’s a fact. Both characters have the same fate in a way. The silver lining. But still the biggest tragedy is that both characters have to give up air conditioning, clean toilets, and clean showers lol 😂.
@@Steel-101 No they literally don't share the same fate. The Vault Dweller does not lose his family, and is not left alone. In fact he inspires his fellow Vault Dwellers to join him, and he literally founds a tribe. The Sole Survivor is essentially kidnapped and frozen for 200 years until everybody he knows is long gone, his wife is murdered in front of him and he misses his son's entire life, only reuniting at his son's death bed. But hey, he gets a new dog (to replace the one he lost 200 years ago), a schizo robot sidekick and an obnoxious American Revolutionary LARPER for company I guess... I know which one I'd prefer to be.
@@Edithae I said “in a way”. They are a bit similar when it comes to rebuilding a new family. That’s what I mean. Both endings for these characters are bitter sweet. Plus they both come from comfortable backgrounds but have to adjust to a very rough lifestyle in the wasteland.
The ghost people of the Sierra Madre would be a great topic for a future video. Or maybe the prewar story of Frederick Sinclair, Vera Keys and Dean Domino.
It sucks he was exiled from his vault. But if he wasn't. Him and everyone else there in the vault would be dead. There would be no Chosen One either. The whole west coast and surrounding area would be in a much worse condition.
No vault resident main character in any Fallout game can ever go back. Vault Dweller gets exiled for saving Vault 13, but the Lone Wanderer also was exiled from Vault 101 for saving it. Amata even says something similar to the Vault 13 Overseer. Nate/Nora (Sole Survivor) can go back to Vault 111 anytime they want. But everybody else from that Vault is dead, including their spouse. & the 76 vault dweller literally gets locked out of the vault along with all the other residents.
@@BraddahSpliff I remember playing fallout 3 for the first time (first one I played bc the first game came out when I was born lol) I remember being so confused and so pissed at Amata for kicking me out the vault, didn’t feel right at all.
My favorite aspect of the vault dwellers is how they are lulled/brainwashed into a false sense of security. Their vault could be surrounded by death claws that could easily break the walls (many vaults are placed in open caves) and they have no clue. And if a threat comes, they are totally unprepared, because they have absolutely no information about what goes on outside. Totally isolated. If I lived in a vault, it would drive me insane. I would constantly listen for clicks and bangs, or anything out of the ordinary

I had no trouble getting everyone of my companions through the game. Also I remember this cut random encounter in Fallout 2 with 100 yo Ian

I don't mean this to downplay my appreciation of your work on its individual merits in any way, but I do really appreciate seeing someone else covering Fallout lore than Oxhorn, especially given his... _questionable opinions._
Wish they remake fo1 and fo2 with latest technology. Tried to play the original and it felt so awkward, I know they are respected games but they don’t age well.
They aged just fine, the issue is that many people joined the franchise with Fallout 3 or New Vegas that aren't isometric or turn-based fans. Rather than accept that those games were made for a different audience, most of those folks falsely claim that the games are bad. Similarly, there're a lot of Fallout fans who think Fallout 3 and after are horrible because they're FPS games. Both are more than allowed to like what they like and avoid what they don't like, but expecting things to be what they're not is plain foolish. That's like a vegan complaining that there's too much meat in a hamburger compared to their veggieburger. Apples and oranges are two different things even if their names might be similar and they both come from a farm. I'm a fan of both formats. I cut my modding teeth on Fallout New Vegas and enjoyed the most replayability of any game I've ever played out of it. Of all the Fallout games so far, though, I think Fallout 2 is probably the best in terms of story, content, and what it brings to the franchise; I replay it every year or so and use it as the standard I hold any isometric/turn-based game to.
The Canon timeline in the game is a little wonky. It says in the beginning they were in the vault for 1 generation. Then later the vault dweller makes a comment about the boneyard radiation "after 80 years".
I kind of find it funny how the fallout games start FO1 - find a water chip FO2 - find a G.E.C.K. FO3 - find your dad FONV - find a package FO4 - find your son Also kind of funny that the West Coast looks for objects and the East Coast looks for people
Back in day when first came out I play fallout 1 (dogmeat lived) and fallout 2 it is my hope one day to see it remastered in modern game engine and twist got me

Despite, getting a water chip for Vault 33, he will be permeantly banished from Vault 33 and will remain with his sister, Lucy. Ergo, he meets a similar fate like "The Vault Dweller" in Fallout 1.
God I love this content. Keep it up dude.
Is that Jimmy Fallon 3:46?
I'd love to see you do a playthrough of fallout 1 & 2. With your commentary it would make a great watch mate.
Another great video. I absolutely love your writing.
By the way, are you going to follow this up with a story about The Chosen One?
I'm surprised that he didn't start his new life in shady sand
awh hell yeah, i’m in the middle of a fallout play through.. very exciting
Nice the original ones are the best
I can't get the audio to work 😭
@@TotallyNotRedneckYall i’m playing it through steam, have you checked the settings?
@@anabelbtenz I got it from gamepass. I'm totally gonna grab it off steam now.

He had 150 days to complete his task.
We need a new game that takes place around a big city that got nuked hard. Like NYC or LA. It would be nice to explore something that isn’t just empty wasteland.
Thank you synonymous for a great vid!!!!
So this is the place that gets Nuked in the Fallout TV Show, Shady Sands the first place you visit in the first game, I never knew this
This was awesome. Thank you!
One of my favorite games in the series is F1 because the atmosphere and feel of the game is like no other in the franchise.
Amazing video
I don't mean this to downplay my appreciation of your work on its individual merits in any way, but I do really appreciate seeing someone else covering Fallout lore than Oxhorn, especially given his... _questionable opinions._
Fallout1(vault dweller) story is the definition of adulthood.
Just saying like 100 percent we need a fallout game where we go here like it needs to happen bro
these vids always slap
Very nice, looked forward to this! Thanks :)
GREAT VIDEO!
My Ian was burned to death by the super mutant with the flamer as well, hah
I just completed this game man is the power armor with Toughness (2) Is OP
I kind of find it funny how the fallout games start
FO1 - find a water chip
FO2 - find a G.E.C.K.
FO3 - find your dad
FONV - find a package
FO4 - find your son
Also kind of funny that the West Coast looks for objects and the East Coast looks for people
We don't need another hero, we just need to know the way home
the graphics of this game would be perfect for a gameboy/ds port.
Bro imagine if we could find the tribe in fallout 4 that would be a fire dlc and imagine a vault 13 jumpsuit outfit
Wait, you can blow up the cathedral without getting the Ron Peralman recap and get exiled from Vault 13?
Back in day when first came out I play fallout 1 (dogmeat lived) and fallout 2 it is my hope one day to see it remastered in modern game engine and twist got me
God I love his work
