Beautiful. How did you get into furniture refinishing.?

I’ve always liked making things. In my early twenties I couldn’t afford nice furniture but I could buy old stuff and make it look better. Over the years I took woodworking classes etc and just kept doing pieces because I enjoyed the process! And that’s it! 😅

I dont understand peoples obsession with odies oil. Its a non hardening oil, so it's not an actual finish. It will mever provide any protection as it never cures. Furniture "finished" with odies oil will scratch very easily. Also, the notion that the wood is "dry" and needs to be oiled is funny. It's dead. It's supposed to be dry lol

Hi, I like Odie’s oil for a number of reasons. #1 it is safe to use and I don’t have to wear coveralls, face masks and eye protection to use! I can use it inside and not stink up the whole house. And #2 - it creates a beautiful waterproof surface, (it is tung oil based) I have a coffee table I refinished with it that takes a lot of abuse, food, drinks, feet! And I’ve never got a water ring, no scratches and it has always cleaned up beautifully. #3 - the sheen is gorgeous! …But that’s just my experience, I will continue to use because I have been happy with results.

What type of sandpaper do you use to prevent it from sanding down too deep the vaneer?

I usually start with 150 grit on veneer pieces. If the veneer is VERY thin I will only hand sand, I won't use my sander. I then move up to 220grit. That's about it. 😉
