    I wanna add a friendly reminder that the art history that most of you know is very white washed. I know this is not super relevant to this video, but the argument of good art vs bad art where "good art" are pieces made by white men in fancy museums vs "bad art" which is art made by average people in their garages is not a valid argument against this video. Just because that type of art is deemed valid in the world sculpted by white colonialism, doesn't mean it's the only valid art. thank u😌 (also, loving the feedback and differing opinions, just wanted to give some insight about what I'm thinking lmao)

    • @PatriciaHuffman

      would also like to add that these pieces that are so famous today were typically not famous when the artist was alive. people shat on them for experimenting, the same way people are shitting on these people for experimenting ya feel?

      Doctor Cough-for-Me oooo looks like we found the triggered elitist with the stick up their ass! and no, actually, i personally don’t have any expectations for other people, young or old, when it comes to making art, but yes, i would hope those that make it so enjoy the process and outcome. whether it be “squared and circles” or landscapes or portraits, random bright strokes of color or things i can’t even decipher visually, whatever it may be. art is supposed to be a sense of release and escape and it can be simple and fun or methodical and challenging. and just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not good or it’s not “art.” that applies to all forms of art including tv/film and music too. so yes, i AM being real and i’m the realest it gets. you have a good day!

    I'm a future art teacher and I actually did a technique similar to the first painting you did in one of my uni courses which took place in a local modern art museum. They usually do it with high school students, it's part of a sequence-thing they do for school classes about Ernst Richter, who uses this technique of layering on some of his paintings. It was really funny when you said that people could do this in arts class, because I did this in arts class! :D

    Dear Patricia, as a student of law of attraction, I must say this example is why there is a lack mentality among people. Actually, anyone can be or do anything they want, including art if their vibration matches up to the request, it takes no special quality just a desire despite what someone (yes. Meaning well Parents too). Money making too. You create your own reality, good or bad, what you focus on is what is created. Younger people too, need to know not to focus in on what is seen, heard or smelled.

      your last sentence here confused me, but overall, yes I agree! I'm a firm believer in the law of attraction, though I do think it's a journey to uphold these beliefs. Especially right now, with a pandemic and political upheaval in my country. But, I do believe that if you believe in something, and work hard, you can make it happen. Which is why I think it's heartbreaking for some artists to put down others who are exploring the field 😌

    the problem is when people who don't know how to price art sell it for way cheaper than it should be, which lowers value and perception of value overall making it harder and harder for professional artists to generate liveable income. DONT UNDERPRICE YOUR ART JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT A "PROFESSIONAL." if it's good it's good.

    The lesson here is that no one is an instant anything in the art world--internationally or nationally. ITS THE PROCESS. And the process (particularly the failures) is the beautiful educational and transformative part. Vincent van Gogh, e.g., never knew much about his background or education....didn't care because I'm African-American, female, into photography. Take a look at "Still Life with Cabbage and Clogs" then "Bedroom in Aries." I understand "now" that before Van Gogh was successful (only after he died), he attempted to paint using the styles of all the famous painters of his time. All white men. Miles Davis, African-American male musician quote: "I started out playing like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Donald Byrd..... and then I found my own sound." No matter what culture or gender you are, the process is the same.

    I dont mind the tik tok challenge, the only beef Ive had with it from alot of the videos ive watched, is the tiktokers who dont think their art is real because of it. Like they call their own art "fake art" because their just doing it for money, and often have this sarcastic attitude about art in general. For example, one guy said "Im going to put this fake art on ebay and write a stupid caption about what it means and im going to put 'abstract' as the title cause that sounds deep and fancy" and i was like.... but it **IS** abstract though. And that**IS** easily what that painting means to you. Dont be sarcastic about it like its fake, cause its not. Your intentions mighg not be the same as "real" artosts, but your work is practically the same lol. Everything is art, even if that sounds cheesy to some. Architecture is art. Films are art. Idk, i forgot what i was ranting about. Anywho, love the video :)

    I agree that there is no such thing as fake art. I do however want to stress that the majority of art pieces are not bought by rich people and there is not a lot of money in the act of art itself unless you are on e of the very lucky. So that being considered this is what the guy was saying poorly, If there are "Artist" that sell their art to actually make a living and then suddenly a trend happens that causes the market to be flooded with pieces that could cause harm to revenue thus putting some of the artists "out of business" but not for a genuine reason but for a temporary trend. Art is expensive with paints costing from 10 to 100 dollars a tube , canvases , etc. once you lose or greatly reduce your income it is hard to get started again. I do not believe that he was wanting the people actually interested in art to stop but those just doing the trend to consider the damage it was doing to the market. I pray that many people that "just" did the trend actually enjoyed it and become artistic. Again it is not rich people that buy the majority of the art that is sold. it is Doctors offices, dentist Offices, designers etc. So lets keep it flowing but protect those that depend on it.

      @@PatriciaHuffman People who do this, do not take their art seriously.That's why artists make series on themes or just keep on doing the same thing, because they are trying to reach a certain point whether their art means something or not. That's also another big difference between artists and people who just paint some random thing and post it to just see if it can sell. Those people don't take their art seriously. And being serious doesn't mean being strict or something but it means persistence through time and respect for your own art. Abstract artists or performance artists put their time, and hearts in their work. That is what it is all about. Not just vomiting something once and see if it can sell. The value that it is art comes from the person that buys the art, yes. But the difference is (and what he tried to say) is that they didn’t put them to be sold because thy envoyés making art, because they want to be an artist even for some time, these people specifically say and show that that are doing this just because of the money, just to see how much money a painting that has no meaning or has an “invented” or words that the artist didn’t see in this painting while making it. Not because eggy love art, not because they want to sel their art and have in income from it, but because of how much money they can make. That is what “fake” art is for us. Someone who doesn’t do it for the passion or pleasure but because of how much money they can get and actually showing in these videos that this is not something that means something for them, and people who buy art that’s why they buy it, for the passion, meaning and to help the artist because they enjoy the art. Also the part with what’s real and what’s not because people that buy them like to see the meaning and yes people are buying it because they think it is something out of a expensive gallery but as much as that is bad and I personally hate it, those are the people that actually buy the paintings, that is why the art community is so “deep” because otherwise people do not buy it, and is already hard for artist to sel and have an income from their art.

    Before anyone comes at me: I’m writing this comment while watching. I haven’t watched it fully through yet.
    So here is my opinion no one cares about: tbh, I don’t care where people sell what art somewhere? Like you do you, if someone is willing to buy it... go for it. Idgaf haha I totally agree with you!
    But I thought about it for a while and I think my definition of success in art isn’t about how much money you’re able to make. But I feel like a lot of people call them or others successful, when coming to a point where the sold art has a high value? And some people don’t see the value in that and don’t seem to like the “success” of others? Idk hard to describe.
    MY definition of success, and I am saying this as an art and art history student in my 6th semester at Uni, would more be on the “impact you make” side.
    Kandinsky wrote whole books about his understanding of art and forms and colors and all. A lot of artist like Picasso, Van Gogh, Courbet or Pollock have made an impact. Joseph Beuys opening up the whole definition of art, just as well as the idea of Gerry Schums “Fernsehgalerie”, where he wanted to use the TV as a gallery, paying artist not by buying their work but for recording and broadcasting their work on tv, bringing art near the mass and out of the madness of the traditional art business.
    That’s why I don’t care if someone sells their work online. That’s why I don’t care, if you make a million dollars for a painting, where you played with the spontaneous color choosing or whatever concept you are going for. These guys made this possible to have a wide variety of art, of understandings of art. They made it acceptable for art not only to be hung up in rich peoples houses, galleries, museums but also have the ability to get away from the old fashioned art market, to define your own idea of art. You choose, how you want to be successful in art. This is the freedom this whole “selling on eBay thing” inhabits and gives us.
    Conclusion: there isn’t a reason for me at all, why someone shouldn’t sell their abstract art on eBay. It’s the freedom we have today and it’s the freedom we should appreciate.
    It’s a freedom to choose your path in art and where/how you want to make an impact. It’s even connected to the freedom of us being able to love and hate stuff. This freedom is the beauty right?
    And sometimes I feel like a little provocation isn’t bad.
    I, again, 100% agree with you!! (and that doesn’t mean I love every piece of art I see lol)
    I hope this was understandable, English isn’t my native language.

    YEEEEESSSSS!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Fine Art people are VERY fickle when it comes to the concept that everyone’s an artist. The bar to being an artist is NON EXISTENT!!!!!! Do WHATEVER you want WHENEVER you want and do WHATEVER you want with it man. If some trend is fucking up your life cause suddenly you have to realize you’re not the only artist out there doing this and making good work, ADAPT TO IT!!!! If there is one job that is EXTREMELY adaptable it’s art cause you can literally change it up and if you’re privileged enough like those who complain about this type of trend, THEYRE CLEARLY PRIVILEGED ENOUGH TO KNOW JUST HOW TO WORK AROUND THIS!!!! NO one can just spend the rest of their lives making the same art over and over again and benefit from it mentally or financially. The fine art world is ever changing and it’s their own fault for being too stubborn in their practice to change it up and work around obstacles.

    i am an artist myself and i love the fact everyone is trying to paint, what a lovely world we would have full of colour and happy people if everyone was painting, but here is the thing, your thoughts on artists being elitist and classist " spellings prob wrong" lol, but what you need to understand the artists are 95% of the time the lowest paid workers in society where the odd painting they sell it is the elitist buying it, that does not put the artists in the same category, i have to fund my art by working another job to make ends meet and all the artists i know are the same so i dont like being called elitist by someone who has no clue about art or what they are talking about, and i continue to make art because i love it not because i could join the elite some day and get rich from it because it wont happen. But as for your other point i agree the more people are painting the better, the art collectors and the ELITE will know the difference between crappy childlike efforts on ebay and real art so it wont harm the odd sale us artists get. and by the way the tik tok videos of people selling art on ebay are all scam bids, its rife on ebay.

    • @PatriciaHuffman
      @PatriciaHuffman  4 роки тому +2

      Funniest Tik Tok i personally also work to be able to pursue an artistic career, but to even do that is a privilege. and i’m not saying artists with this kind of idea are trying to be rich, i’m saying that they’re favoring the rich over working class people, and that is their biggest flaw. The problem doesn’t lie within fellow middle class, it lies within the rich. Which you say yourself, they are able to easily tell when a painting is a dud. So if that’s the case, let’s just let everyone paint their paintings in peace 😌 i appreciate this comment tho! love the discussion

It would drive me crazy to buy a piece of art and have no information about the artist. It's nice to wonder, but a much better talking point to know. Just my two cents.

    I agree ALL art is real! But where I do agree with the other person is if it’s something you don’t want to do as work and they do.. it’s their income and passion etc so now it’s like if the market is so saturated with other people’s Tik Tok experiments.. then it does make it hard for people who want to do it..Not having a go btw! Just thinking about what they said and it must be frustrating!

    • @PatriciaHuffman
      @PatriciaHuffman  4 роки тому +1

      no worries! I love discussing it, not taking anything personally forsure! it definitely has to be frustrating if it's your only stream of revenue, but i think theyre losing a lot of their value by not trying to sell to the middle/working class. it's also just not a good idea to have only one revenue stream as a business, so overall I think the flooded market would essentially be a healthy lesson and would hopefully push the artists to look for alternatives. i was kinda aggressive with my response, but it was mainly because it broke my heart to see artists tearing people down, even though these people just seemed to be having fun, yknow?
