Yeah, like. You could just as well go tell the baker that you could bake your own bread if you wanted to. You probably can, yet you still buy the bread to save yourself the effort and likely because they're more skilled at it than you are.
Or my favorite "my 2 year old grandson could do that" Yes, he probably could and hopefully no one will criticise him as he gets older so he never loses the joy that he feels when he creates...
Actually, talentless people have done this countless times to show that anybody can make and sell abstract art. Telling people, "yeah but you didn't," when they say they could do it, is kind of shallow. They're not an ass for saying that because it takes almost no skill, and it's been proven time and time again that it can be done. Driven To Abstraction is a documentary showing how a Chinese immigrant forged $60,000,000 Pollock and Rothko paintings for years and fooled the entire "art" world.
I am a artist and I really believe people have no idea how much goes into each piece of art made. I find that so many people just want to get something for as cheap as they can. So sad. I do both canvas art and resin art on wood.
I'm an artist, and I think you're extremely brave for just slapping paint on there straight away without hesitating. I definately wasn't that confident when I started.
As an actual artist let me just say this process of painting doesn’t change whether you are a professional artist or not. It almost becomes even more scary when people expect that as a professional artist that you just suddenly know what you are doing 😂
the hardest part of being an artist is creating CONSISTENLY good art. Everyone gets lucky now and then. try creating a related series of 10 pieces where they all feel like they belong together but are still different. That's the difference between having fun with it and making into a career, in my opinion.
I'm a knitter, and to buy all the 'raw materials' to finish a simple pair of socks, it'll cost you like anywhere from $35-$50, and that's not even taking in to account the time and skill set you'll need to MAKE the socks.
The shock when you explain how much it would actually cost to all those family/friends/coworkers who ask you to make them something and say they're happy to cover cost of time/materials 😂
I’m also a knitter. I’ve never understood why it costs more to make things yourself than to buy them. Same for making your own clothes. I couldn’t believe how much the material was that I wanted to make a twin size blanket. It has kept me from sewing and knitting much more than I do, because why go to all that expense and time when most of what I want to make can be bought for cheaper? Just to be able to say I made it? Not enough incentive for me.
I like it. You chose those colors. You placed them. You chose the palette knife and brush. You decided to layer it. Splotch it. Laugh at it. It’s ART. And you’re a precious person.

Title that painting “Pandemic Expression” and it may sell;) because when I look at that I think that’s how I’ve felt since the pandemic began. Lost... a confused mess... constantly finding hope only to have it overshadowed by chaos... yes. That IS a master piece. ;)
Hi Ellbat, firstly wanted to say....you got it. Enjoying the process is exactly what creating art is all about. We don’t all create masterpieces with everything we make, but that makes you no less an artist. I am a registered blind artist and have no doubt what I create isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea but I get great enjoyment doing it. So, keep on arting hunny, well done you ❤️
It was so satisfying seeing the splodges blend when she essentially buttered toast on the canvas. Actually really liked the way the colours blended to create new ones.
It is INCREDIBLY hard to revert back to painting or drawing “like a child” after you have been trained to paint “properly” (as most people would say). People underestimate this, and it’s to the point where MOST trained artists would genuinely really struggle to make an abstract piece - because it throws all fundamentals they’ve ever learned, straight out the window.
This is exactly what I've been struggling with, studying Illustration. I find it hard to connect the fun and childlike creativity i had before Uni with my current projects, though that is something I'm working on.
@@dreaming_spacecat I hope you get there! I believe in you! It can be hard, but keep at it and you’ll get there! It was the same for me doing fine art. I find it almost impossible now.
That makes sense, but can one really argue that a piece should be priced highly because the creator was a skilled artist, even if their artistic skill was not applied to that piece?
@@perperperpen people pay for art done by distinguished people, even if that art piece is less than great. They pay for the name more than anything. I don’t think it should be priced higher no. I think the price should be based on the time and effort that was spent on the piece, not the name
I've been painting iconography for decades. I'm tired of portraits and being exact and would love to paint abstract but don't know how. What is it lol?
Problem with abstract art is unless your really good at it and have a definitive style. Your stuck waiting for that ONE buyer who is inspired by the mess you've made. True story
@@G.Bfit.93 Not really true. Almost all abstract art, whether or not it's visualy appealing, can be done by just about anyone. But it requires genuine technical ability to produce something like a Mondrian or Kandinsky. Also, good abstract art, meaning art which is isn't just a random mess and has a sense of formal and colour composition, requires genuine thought, control, creativity, and decision making even where the same artist isn't technically capable of representational art.
As someone who just looked up selling art videos, your comment stuck out. I'd say I have very little skill, but a decent eye and a style, but I will totally keep your words at heart for sure.
You mean there is a Vlogger who keeps the chatter to the point? Conclusively indicating that you structure your script and get to the point in your productions... Kudos to you mate!
I went to high school specialized in art. I was there four years; got my degree. Still don't have a clue what I'm doing every time I sit down to art, and once I do art, I hate the result, then one sleep later, I love it, and I go back and forth between love and hate.
Art Therapy - Art for/from Stroke survivors, is an incredible way for stroke survivors to improve their mobility and precision control and also decrease depression. Many stroke survivors are sadly left with some form of disability either physically/mentally/emotionally. Art is a brilliant way for survivors to express themselves when words either don't come or cannot possibly fit what they are feeling. There are too many charities dedicated to this to list but it really is a worthwhile cause to investigate. Thanks Ellbat.
I’d like to add to that! Art therapy is for everyone and every age. I actually am an art therapist (in the Netherlands) and work with kids who are very damaged and in need of support and love. Art therapy is a safe and approachable form of therapy 💕
I have an aunt who had a stroke and had the right side of her body paralyzed. It was really hard for her since she was right handed. She used to draw before and was really good at it and I think she thought she would never do anything creative again but she tried and I find that her paintings are now even more beautiful than before, they are more colorful and emotional which to me says that she is happy again (which she wasn't even before the stroke). It really helped her cope with her struggles and made her and our lives more beautiful. It really shows how powerful art is.
@@kathynotenboom I would be very interested in art therapy in the Netherlands. It 's difficult to start in the US because insurance companies don't want to cover it. Starting out in both art and psychology I was very discouraged by other therapist because of this. Maybe I should not have listened.

See, the struggle, that is what makes you an artist. I would call that genuine art. The fact that it feels like a child is what most artists feel about their work.
I think you made an excellent effort on creating your first abstract painting. I like it. If you don't sell it on ebay, hang it in a prominent place in your home where it can be admired. I'm an artist who works in a semi abstract, and abstract style of painting. I've sold many paintings. I've seen a lot of abstract art being made on the internet lately, and most of them work in a different way than I do. But more power to them, if they can crank these paintings out like art factory works and then sell them. I've never been able to paint like that. I can't paint the same thing twice either. Anyway, I enjoyed your video.
This sounds like a very fun thing to do, never tried abstract art but I can imagine it's harder than it let's off, it's like avant garde music, some of it is just shit noise and it's surprisingly hard to make it like not shit noise (I like my wacky avant garde stuffs)
What a great vid! I'm an artist, and I step in my paint, and track it around, until it's a mess. It's true that it takes money to make art. BTW, I also scrape some paint off, and paint over, so what you did really is art. Keep going, and you may be surprised what comes of it!!
I have been making abstract art for almost 20 years & this is a hundred times better than anything I could ever dream of doing. Even though you often felt like you didn't know how to proceed, you followed your instincts & that worked very well for you. I also admire your resolve to put it out there & sell it. No one has ever seen my work & I have never attempted to sell anything, kudos to you for trying!
U r so kind. I loved the original painting u did, background, and the "trees?" you did...so cool. Now, do it again with those 2 layers and you'll have a winner! thx
Artists watching aren't cringing - we're happy to see other people enjoy making art! You experienced so many emotions while making the piece :) Much better than the taped up banana.
I am no expert but i would say that abstract art is a lot about emotions. You just start painting because you feel like it but it doesnt really have a direction And you just keep going with your emotions. So I personally think you nailed that
2:11 the other day my art teacher was talking about how she thinks some of the dumb art things that sell for so much is a front for money laundering (her specific example was the banana on the wall and honestly she might be onto something)
What happens when the banana rots? You’ve lost your 120K! Phone up an art restorer and end the conversation with “Oh, and don’t forget to bring a banana with you”.
A banana taped to the wall isn’t “abstract art” it’s conceptual art. There’s a difference and the banana art has no value outside where it sits in art history.
Yes. I get tired of everyone calling anything non representational 'abstract art'. First you must have something to 'abstract'. Otherwise it's 'Intuitive Art' orrrrr, 'Non representational Art", but never 'Abstract'. I blame the internet ..
I actually think you did great! Like you said, its the process, the act of spreading paint is so wonderful. I hate everything I do, but I do love the feeling while doing it :)
I was hoping you were actually successful in selling it lolol, but I really appreciate the message. As an artist myself, I know I personally spend too much money on art supplies, but as I’m no longer in my “beginner” stage of art *and haven’t been for years lol* I also tend to go for the more expensive “professional” materials, so it’s understandable that I tend to spend a lot. However, even for beginners buying the more cheaper/affordable art materials, it still adds up pretty quickly unfortunately. I appreciate your efforts to help other struggling artists like myself, as well as spread awareness that art takes so much time, effort, and money. Sucks that there are still a lot of people out here that keep wanting/asking artists to make them something for super cheap/free because they don’t understand/know this yet. Anyways, thanks for your upload!!
I would call your piece "the unappreciated paint" because it reminds me of the backdrop of a lot of artists' workstations from spills, mishaps, cleaning brushes, sampling colors, etc. Basically, all the paint that doesn't make it onto the canvas that nobody but the artists get to see. Too deep? Maybe... but that's the beauty of abstract works right? 😅
@@ATrace-pn6wx Absolutely, Artists think about art more than the rest of the world. If you are making art, you get to spend time with it and consider all the beauty in the world. Things that others may not consider beautiful or even interesting.
Only thing I'm judging in this video is the fact there is a poor cactus in that glass house that has fallen over which no one has bothered to pick up hahah
My art teacher said something very wise once. He said :"if you want to get to know a person's mind, one of the quickest ways to do that is by taking them to a gallery for abstract art. If they ridicule the art or the artist, or even get mad, because they can't understand it, you'll see one character trait that would otherwise be hidden much longer."
Good point. When I get a boyfriend, I'm taking him to an abstract art exhibit. I could never be with someone who pretends abstract art is worth a damn. Same with wine tasting. If he pretends there's a difference, _thank you, next!_
@@IsomerMashups Omg i think the initial commentor thought otherwise. Like, he thought that people should be interested in such. Looking at it myself, I would and wouldn't be interested depending on my mood
@@IsomerMashups question: how would u know he’s pretending? All I hear people say about abstract is that once they saw it. They were amazed. But they couldn’t discribe it in words why they loved it. Maybe if it was really obvious
That was really nice of you. Honestly I was expecting the end to be a sponsorship, and as a struggling artist it's refreshing to see a creator being genuine and giving back to other artists. Keep doing what you're doing (:
For a beginner it's a good start don't give up. I love all styles of paintings. I have done abstract and also taught my autistic daughter. It was a communication break through with her. I paint what I feel and it comes out in different styles.
"it made me realize how much time and work and money goes into making art." I joke about this a lot. I make beaded jewelry, and family/friends sometimes ask me to make them some, or say I should open an Etsy shop. I reply that opening a shop to me is not really worth it; I could buy $90.00 worth of beading supplies and tools, to sell a bracelet for .99 cents.
I love abstract it has become my favorite. And love you personality, you made me laugh! That’s how I feel sometimes about art, even though I’ve taking art courses in college thru the years! You def made me feel better.
Thanks for your generous intentions. Im an artist here in Portugal (waiting to get my residency papers solved) and sometimes its so hard like I would probably bartender or waitress part time to keep making art because when you move to a new country its harder to reach to people
Thank you for wanting to help out artists. I'm a late in life self-taught artist and it touches my heart you are wanting to do something for artists. God bless you.
Being an artist is quite difficult especially in these days with the pandemic going on I even stopped drawing cause I just can't buy my art supplies anymore cause everything is closed:(
Your technique didn't suck, was actually a good technique for abstract. If you try it again (since you have all that paint now lol) just look up a quick color theory breakdown on UA-cam. Certain colors make mud when blended. Honestly if you did that same technique with less browns and just don't put complimentary colors next to each other in the butter knife part, I think you'd end up with a vibrant & "popping" piece.
I was thinking about the same thing. Try using a palette knife instead of a kitchen knife and scissors, less paint, less mud, and maybe surprising results.
I did a messy pour on a big canvas and stuck it into a display. Someone paid wayyyy more than I thought it was worth and I was AH-mazed. Art is always in the eye of the beholder. I don't want to be in the contest, but I do want to shout out to the creatives who have suffered in this past year.
I disagree, there is definitely bad art. Bad art is art that doesn't have any meaningful purpose or skill in it. Good art sends some kind of message, envokes some kind of feeling or exhibits the skills and effort of the artist. You don't have to be technically skilled to make good art. But you do need to display some sort of effort. If you did a two second scribble, that's not art. Lol
Kids paint when they feel like it, we paint when we don't, then judge the hell out it! I actually liked it. I suppose the key is doing it for enjoyment, knowing it's unique.
I love the way you ask people to think about subscribing. I feel like most people have tuned out "subscribe" at this point, even if it's something they would want to do 😅
I used to go to art therapy and I also got back into painting and honestly it’s extremely therapeutic and a lot of the time “abstract” art tends to be a bunch of emotions that have come out of you. It’s a really powerful thing x
That's how I started. I'm a working bassist and lost all my gigs due to Covid. Began painting just to have a healthy way to blow off steam. Had always wanted to try it, always loved paintings. Figured it was better than a whiskey bottle. Decided to put a pic of my first painting up on FB.. and had an offer. Some of my commercial artist friends began asking me when I took lessons. They've been incredibly supportive and said I'm onto something. This was November. I've sold a bunch since and a friend offered to set up a web page to sell them (there's almost forty in my tiny apartment haha). I found the process really therapeutic
aww that is soo wholesome i am an artist but i am still a child and live in my parents household so i think the money will go better towards someone else, its really sweet that you thought of us artists. you are a very enjoyale person
When I tell people that I make art professionally, it's fairly common for them to say some permutation of "Oh that sounds lovely, I'd love to make art but I'm just no good at it". I always tell them that anyone can create art as wanting to create is the first and most important motivation. Everything else is just practice and patience. Your piece had some really interesting details to it and looked pretty strong compositionally. I would be very interested in seeing you give it another go, taking what you've learned from this experience and applying that to your next attempt. You might also enjoy trying assemblage art as well.
Imagine a crossover between her feet pics business and her abstract art business... I'm not saying anything, but Elena, if you actually do something like that, yes I said something. Also, the idea of giving away art supplies is incredible!

I feel this so much 😢
I make shawls and blanket. I understand the feeling.
Me buying a single skein of yarn for $9 to make 1/6 of a blanket 😔
The shock when you explain how much it would actually cost to all those family/friends/coworkers who ask you to make them something and say they're happy to cover cost of time/materials 😂
I’m also a knitter. I’ve never understood why it costs more to make things yourself than to buy them. Same for making your own clothes. I couldn’t believe how much the material was that I wanted to make a twin size blanket. It has kept me from sewing and knitting much more than I do, because why go to all that expense and time when most of what I want to make can be bought for cheaper? Just to be able to say I made it? Not enough incentive for me.
“A true masterpiece does not tell everything”-Albert Camus. Art should make you think and feel not just see your weird uncle.
I like it. You chose those colors. You placed them. You chose the palette knife and brush. You decided to layer it. Splotch it. Laugh at it. It’s ART. And you’re a precious person.
And I am an artist if you can call it that. I paint and draw and make no money to speak of.
GIRL , you're hard on yourself. i've been making and selling art for years and I personally LOVED what you were making, even the black paint scrapped after words has a statement. it personally touched me in the soul , like i LOVE it.
anyways this was the first video i watched from u and i loved it so hi & hello, from your new subscriber 💗💗
did you get good prices for your work?
@@therobinmasterstheory1636 yes! I sold some for $70-$300 it mostly depended on the size of the canvas and how long I spent on it but sadly I stopped painting. i sell crotchet trinkets now!
The scrapped off black paint is favorite part of the painting
Yes i bought some dingy abstract paintings purely so I could reuse the canvas and her painting is better than any of those.
As an artist that does commissions "I put my heart and soul into that onion" is one of the most relatable things I think I've ever heard.
Title that painting “Pandemic Expression” and it may sell;) because when I look at that I think that’s how I’ve felt since the pandemic began. Lost... a confused mess... constantly finding hope only to have it overshadowed by chaos... yes. That IS a master piece. ;)

*Well, technically it kinda is*
😆 Indeed!

True story
You cannot get good at something that requires no skill it's like getting good at blinking or clapping
Still don't have a clue what I'm doing every time I sit down to art, and once I do art, I hate the result, then one sleep later, I love it, and I go back and forth between love and hate.
that must be the curse of the artist.....I do the exact same thing! Also, others tell me it's good and I never believe them!
aren't we all, deep down, convinced that we have no idea what we are doing & terrified someone will realize it any day now.
@@kathynotenboom Hiii fellow vaktherapeut ✌🏻

I love how supportive you are. I honestly think you should keep going and create more abstract Art.
When I started this video, my feelings were spicy, but at the end I was like "ah yes no ones buying art, I am not alone in the unsold art world" so um yeah thanks for bringing light to the fact that art is hard and takes so much time and money. Much appreciated!
I'd definitely buy this, it's literally her going through optimism, confusion, feelings of being lost and eventually pure hate and frustration. That's abstract as fuck hun
I was just about to create an abstract painting when I saw this. I'm trying to make money within the next 3 months so I can pay hospital bills. Wish me luck!
Where can I buy your art?
I hope everything goes well for you!

See, the struggle, that is what makes you an artist. I would call that genuine art. The fact that it feels like a child is what most artists feel about their work.
I'm an art therapy student from the Netherlands! It's so valuable to hear what you say in the end about art. Gta love the process
This sounds like a very fun thing to do, never tried abstract art but I can imagine it's harder than it let's off, it's like avant garde music, some of it is just shit noise and it's surprisingly hard to make it like not shit noise
(I like my wacky avant garde stuffs)
tis is exactly this! It looks simple, but it's actually very hard haha
Get to it and try it!
Am I the only one that like LOVED every 'mistake' she made? Like they were such cool ideas^__^
I normally make abstract art myself and honestly yours isnt that bad! Its very cool and it expresses emotions!
My abosulte favourite example of abstract art was when a guy went to the display, took of his glasses, placed it on the floor, and sold it...
I wish the writer had read his line and made correction. I am puzzled by "took of his glass," and wish it could be clear.
…that would not be abstract art
U r so kind. I loved the original painting u did, background, and the "trees?" you did...so cool. Now, do it again with those 2 layers and you'll have a winner! thx
Your idea are SUPERIOR. I absolutely loved this and the whole series. Never stop youtube thanks❤
I am a beginner... I dont care who buy my abstract paintings..... But when i see them... I feel Happy!!! For me they are awesome!!!
So I personally think you nailed that
I remember my little brother saying loudly "This is rubbish, I could do that!" at the Tate Modern.
You could’ve, but you didn’t lol thats the take on most abstract art
2:11 the other day my art teacher was talking about how she thinks some of the dumb art things that sell for so much is a front for money laundering (her specific example was the banana on the wall and honestly she might be onto something)
It's been a money laundering scam for at least a century.
it is, alot of tax evasion too because of donations

I think that the art you did is actually pretty cool... 😅You are so genuine, love you! ♥️
I actually think you did great! Like you said, its the process, the act of spreading paint is so wonderful. I hate everything I do, but I do love the feeling while doing it :)
As an artist I love it because you made something from nothing and felt so many things while making it. 10/10
This is so artistic i love it
@Kaylee Underwood spoken like a true artist. 💛 you get it.
Love this! Excellent test!

From one perfectionist to another... I feel your pain
Being an artist is quite difficult especially in these days with the pandemic going on I even stopped drawing cause I just can't buy my art supplies anymore cause everything is closed:(
and when I sell a meme picture of one of my teachers it’s over for all of you
Your technique didn't suck, was actually a good technique for abstract.
Less is more. It looked best right after she scraped off the paint
Thank You! for making an effort to support small artist. NGL I started tearing up at the end :')

Lol
Its funny that Ellbat says her painting belongs on the wall of a dentists office because they normally hang prints of actual masterpiece artwork.
