Narcissism has a spectrum to to it. Most people who meet the diagnostic criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder are still able to feel empathy. It’s just much more restricted to certain situations or people. Even those who have a severe diagnosis can be self-aware of their behavior, but not know how to change it. There are several different types of narcissism and they all have slightly different thought processes and behaviors.
1 trait in diagnosing a narcissist is they are incapable of self reflection and knowing they’re a narcissist. He’s definitely not a narcissist so he probably has a disorder that has similar symptoms. Edit: I know it’s a spectrum and in rare cases a narcissist can feel empathy or be self aware. My comment applies to the majority, not the entirety. I’m using information from both a handbook of diagnosis criteria and statements made by people I know who work in psychologically and psychiatric related jobs/studies. Also I’m only talking about the 1 type of narcissist. I’ve heard there’s other types but I only know of the 1
Narcissists have a pattern of behavior that attribute to a grand level of admiration towards themselves. To an extreme amount. They typically don’t apologize, even when found at fault. If they do, they manipulate and use the apology as a sense of control or manipulate.. they are self centered. Extremely selfish: and so much more… This man is actively trying to seek a life with his family and loved ones, willing to admit fault in himself.. that’s not a typical sign of narcissism. I’ve experienced narcissists who would ruin a relationship with their own child, because in their head; “they are always right” and anyone who responds differently to them is “wrong and evil” and their willing to injure or do wrong for the child. It’s really sad to see honestly.
I would like to know what it is about me that attracts a bigamist, a murderer, and a pervert? My 3 husband's, they all seemed normal in the beginning. Then nope I was a fool, a fool and a FOOL.
I can tell you have a big heart and how i know that is you probably ignored the red flags were so wanting the best out of a relationship sometimes i have been over trusting myself and didnt want to see what was there all along.
But it can be treated. The symptoms can be minimized through proper treatment by a psychologist who thoroughly understands personality disorders. NPD is also a spectrum disorder in a sense that each diagnosis can vary in severity and specific symptoms. This is one of the most taboo PDs because people think that once someone is labeled as a narcissist that they’re a lost cause, feel no empathy whatsoever, and are destined to hurt anyone who becomes apart of their life, which is not true. Most narcissists can feel empathy, but it’s much more restricted to certain situations or people (depending on the type of narcissism they display).
@@lopilkderlll not really.. they learn to mimic empathy but they don’t feel it ! In fact, they will listen to the complaints of a person and learn how to “ hide” it for very minimal amounts of time but will continue to fall back to their dangerous ways. There are people worse than others as they aren’t all cookie cutter but that is just how they are.
@@1nails1 It all depends on the individual. Not all narcissists will hide their thoughts and feelings. Also not all narcissists are dangerous. Many are aggressive or manipulative, but not inherently violent or destructive. Symptoms can be managed with proper treatment if the individual is willing to participate in treatment. It’s not easy to treat and requires dedication from both the patient and the provider, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to manage those symptoms to the point of functioning.
@@lopilkderlll they wear everyone out around them..people around them don’t want to deal with energy vampires! The narcissists don’t realize what they are.. the people around them suffer more than the narcissists.. degrees of this disease is very much true but all in all… they are this way for life. They are master manipulators and if this is how their brain is wired then that’s who they are… no changing . I don’t ever see them apologize, show GENUINE care etc .. I feel sorry for anyone who has this type of person in their daily life.
He is most certainly a real doctor with a phd. He isn’t licensed, BUT licensing is also a BRAND NEW THING in the field of psychology. A lot of therapists and psychologists that have been in the field for a long time still don’t have a license.
I've never seen a narcissist admit they are a narcissist or apologize especially in a genuine matter
i don’t think he is a narcissist. they don’t usually have the ability to self-reflect. he
might be a little self-absorbed though

Well, the first step is admitting there's a problem. He said he destroyed everything. Now he's closer to a resolution!
May God renew his mind and restore his relationship with his family 🙏🏼

With my experiences with Narcissistic Sociopath Phycopath people never really change. 💚
He never had his life to begin with, he had his way because the people in his life weren't able to get away yet
The first episode of Dr Phil I have ever seen where I feel sorry for the guests
dr phil cant diagnose him cause he isnt licensed to
damn, hope he figures it all out.
too much guilt to be a narcissist
I suspect he may have BPD or something along those lines, his emotions seem too genuine for him to be a narcissist.

Remember that dr phil is a TV personality and not a real dr.
He is a doctor with a doctrine not a medical doctor.
He has a PHD he is just not licensed to practice psychology in the state of California
He has the education he just dont keep up on licensing we all know this this isnt new information & it's not hard to understand why
