This actually fixed my issue so far. I jumped up one day and my controller slinged off my lap ripping the headphone jack out of the port. I had to push up on the jack and twist just to get audio until I tried this trick with tapping the toothpick straight back. Thanks!
Sir. I just wanted to say I’m watching this in 2023. And you just saved me $80 on a new controller. I was sitting here thinking this was bull I might blow up my controller. NOPE. I just wanted to say thank you. you’ve earned my sub and a like. Thank you.
You are a life saver 🙌🏽! I’ve been using the Xbox app for a year now and finally got a new mic and it wasn’t working then I realized it was something wrong with the headphone Jack, looked up your vid and it instantly fix it thank you so much🙏🏾
Thank you sooooooo much one day my headset stopped working on my remote I was really confused and didn't know how to fix it, but I watched this video and fixed it instantly thank you.
I acc have a lot of respect for this guy he helped me out a lot but if that doesn’t work go to settings-accessories-configure on the controller you want to fix then update it
I was seriously thinking there was no way this was legit, thanks for the honest comment. If this actually worked for anyone in all seriousness I would just have to quit at life.
thank u so much dawg everyone else is always saying just to update the controller but it doesn’t work for me and i’m so happy you taught me to do all this extra stuff and it worked!!! 🙏
This actually worked for me on a controller I haven’t used in 2-3 years because the headphone jack was broke. I was excited I fixed it now my right bumber is broken again 😭
100% if you’re reading this you looked in the comments to see if it was true. I came across this video as I too had the same issue. Get a needle, Wack it into the headset jack, then you’re good to go! No tell of a lie, it works 👍👍
Hey the sound still always played from my TV and i would just have to turn it down. On PS4 everything is muted upon plugging in a headset so it might seem weird.
I don't know how to fix this but my mic disconnects every time I move. I think there is something out of place in the jack because I tried it already on another controller and it works fine. I have tried a lot of methods and it just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. Any help would be appreciated.
So far this fixed an issue I had with my controller. It was engaging dolby atmos for headphones without any headset being connected. Kept changing my Denon AV Receiver from 5.1 Dolby to Dolby Pro Logic (which isn't surround sound). Really annoying issue but having a 2nd controller proved it was my original controller 3.5 jack at fault not the receiver.
This has happened to me a couple of times. I can't say for sure if it's the same problem always, but the audio jack (the piece where you connect your headset) is not soldered on the controller. It's just set on top, squished between the controller board and the plastic chassis. My hypothesis is that after plugging and unplugging the headset many times, or maybe just shaking the controller too much, can cause the jack to become a tiny bit loose. I can't explain why audio still works but not voice, but I know that in my case the audio is glitched out, it gets tiny breaks and it's pretty annoying sometimes. I think it's called a false contact. I suppose anyone with some technical know how could be able to solder the piece, but the contact points are very small. In theory you could also just set it back in place and carefully assemble the controller back up, or place some sort of thin item between the jack and the controller chassis to keep it from moving around.
My head set is band new and my controller isn't half the time indeed to turn my headset at an angle for it to work so I will try this and I really hope it works
I actually have a tip for you if you're scared to use this! Take a flashlight look into the controller and if you see any dust get it out if you don't see any dust go to your settings and mute your Xbox ❤️
So, I opened up my controller because my jack had gotten ripped out of the socket. I got it back in place, now I can't fix my controller without the pieces falling. Can't afford a new one.
thanks i appericate this i use a powera controller and i have heard alot of people having audio issues with them and i couldnt hear audio from my right ear but i could from my left ear so i was thinking maybe its something with the software and i cant fix it by doing that and ik it wasnt my headset cause i just got a new one and then i tried this and now i can hear through both ears again so i appreciate this
Guys I’m dumb. I realized I had my volume at zero

This genuienly works! Connection is still a little loose but audio is back to 100% functional. Recommend trying this

I was able to get my controller going with my headphones thanks to ur video🙏thank you good sir

Thank you soo much. I also twisted the audio Jack when I was plugging it in and it helped thanks for the tutorial
Used a small hex/allen wrench to gently push it in. Worked first try! Thank you!!!
Wtf I didn't expect this to actually work
Great video
What could u use instead of toothpick
Would if you can't plug your headphones all the way in your controller. Does this video apply to that too.
I have a problem where mine cuts out left and right ear and I gotta move it to get sound out of both. Does this fox?
Omg tysm my friends would always complain about my headset being so echoey even though I knew it wasn’t my headset. I tried this and it worked
All u need is to update ur controller by going to devices and accessories in Xbox setting. Try that first and if it doesn't work, it's toothpick time.
This deserves a like and follow tbh
I was frustrated at first then I just full sent it and felt a little push back in now it works
