- Hi, this video shows you how you can easily replace the headphone jack on a Xbox One controller (Model 1708).
The headphone jack is a removable part and no soldering skills are needed. The replacement headphone jack cost approx. £3 or £4 from eBay and you can even buy a kit that includes the 2 Security Torx screwdrivers for under £5 from China.
Many thanks Vince.
Anyone else got the same controller with the same problem?!
Me
Me smfh
well mine isn't broken. somehow the headphone jack hole went in farther so now the headphone plug cant connect to the jack
Yup
JACS mine isn’t broken either but I let the controller fall while plugged in and now it clicks whenever I touch the plug or move around
Just bought a new headset, then realized it was actually the jack on the controller, lol. Oh well, now we have a spare. Thanks for sharing this.
Same thing happened with me
Same
Same 😐😐😐
I bought 2 headphone sets before coming to my senses and realizing it was the controller. 😂😂
Same
I’m not the only one but I like the sounds of him opening up stuff it’s very calming I fall asleep to your videos I am not weird promise lol.
Gerard Gaming ASMR
Gerard gaming - doing it right know - thought I was alone!
Gerard Gaming OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME
I was just doing it
exactly the same. sound is execellent, calming like you said. its very funny but its true
Dude, a tremendous thank you to you for this video. I have 2 controllers. One has a faulty headphone jack and the other drifts upwards. I had the chance to switch the working headphone jack and then decided to look at the drift issue, took the button off and flicked it around. Amazingly enough, both now work perfectly! You are the man.
Thanks for this video..👍🏽👍🏽 fixed two of my Sons controllers.. saved me from buying two new ones.
But u had to bye all the geer for it
Conrad 306 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you!! You just saved this mom some serious money... easy fix, I replaced 2 jacks in less than 30 minutes...only one small difference on the Phantom White controller, it had 2 extra screws but easy to figure out. Thanks again.
You should get a couple of plastic spudgers for opening things up for future. They are cheap as dirt and leaves no mark to plastic parts like metal does sometimes. Also if you want to be careful with those rumble engines, just put clear tape over them to keep em' from falling and ripping itself off the solder pad. Great video!
Great tips :-)

Trying to re-solder just 1 cable is hell
Thanks man. Without going into detail nobody would care about, fixing my controller meant more to me right now than just fixing a controller. I needed a win, even just a little one. Thanks brother.
This is too scary for me to attempt. I feel like I’ll mess it up
If you take your time you shouldn’t mess up
cant break whats already broken
It is actually very simple to do -- as in extremely simple.
Really easy to do, ligit just fixed mine
not that hard
They charge too much for these controller to break so easily. I have had my first controller break after a few months of use, I bought a new one only to have it start acting up after a month. Luckily, I like tinkering with stuff like this.
How funny i had one and it lasted years
Thanks for the video. I was getting so frustrated with my controller ear phone port not working. Made it so easy to swap out following your steps
I was hesitant at first to do this because I didn't think I could do it. This was better than buying a new controller, thank you so much!
Super simple and easy to follow, thank you!! I was nervous about tearing it apart since I've never done it before but I got it replaced and it's working great.
This video is literally ASMR very calm and soothing for some reason. The sound of ur voice and the she small screws and small screwdriver is soothing, it makes my body tingle.
Fixed both of my controllers by switching the headphone jacks around and it also magically fixed my joystick drift, thanks for the video, saved me the cost of 2 controllers
Thank you, My Mate VINCE. Using your perfect instruction, I fixed my son's THREE 1708 controllers within an hour. And I'm happy. Thanks again and again.
Did this today work's a treat got everything I needed from eBay for less then a fiver
Thank you Vince. You solved the problem with my sons headphones. We bought three replacement jacks, my ten year old fitted the new jack into his controller himself following your video and hey presto - working again!
This video helped me so much. I found out you can even fix the Headphone jack using the headphone jack from a model 1697 if you drill out the headphone jack space in the front cover of the model 1708 to match the size of the headphone jack space of the model 1697.
Great tutorial. Straight and to the point. I just got the parts in the mail. I'll be trying this tonight. Thanks!
What is the part named
I wasn't replacing my headphone jack but you helped me dismantle and fix my controller non the less! Thank you kind sir!
this just helped me save my headphones that were lying away useless for the past year. thank you
This helped me fix three controllers today! I didn’t replace the audio port blocks though, I thought I’d have a look at them first. All I did was lift up all the contact prongs as well the one at the opening where the jack plugs in. Worth a try as it might give you a quick fix. Thanks Vince. I have to say you do great instruction videos. You give important detail in a clear and concise manner that is easy to understand. 👍
Craig Somers I’m so glad you commented this cause I was literally just thinking of just lifting my contact prongs up but now that I know someone tried and it worked I’m definitely gonna try it
Jed Crane Glad to be of help👍
girlzeyeview I used a really small Allen key and gently pushed it inwards towards the centre of the jack port hole. You can’t open the actual audio jack block as it’s moulded plastic with the prongs going through it. I’m not sure if it helped I just ensured what ever I thought needed to make contact was lifted or pressed in the right direction 😂
@@Sums75 idk if u will reply but. How did u push them "up". Like do u mean the piece gold piece getting push away from the black base of the jack? If so did u out a lot of pressure?
Doc The Thot Slayer! A little pressure and the gold metal tabs should bend outwards away from the plastic block (blunt knife/kitchen knife as a tool) Don’t bend the metal that runs through the block only the tabs that protrude which make contact with the two boards when sandwiched in the controller They work like the contacts for a standard battery where the spring effect helps give contact with the contacts inside the controller. Hope that helps.
Thank you for the video, Was short and to the point, showing exactly what needed to be done. Took me 5 min to do the swap.
Thank you! Some mom and pop wanted $25 to repair this. I bought the parts for like $7 and took kit for $7. The most difficult part was prying the side grips open lol.
Which tool kit did you get if you don't mind me asking.
This fixed two of my sons controllers! Six year olds are rough on stuff!I ordered 5 of these boogers from ebay shipped for $9 us.Big thanks from Ohio! You saved this Dad alot of money!
I'm in the middle of quarantine and this happens 😭😭. I think I found a fix you need to update your controller it worked for me!
Just get a kit off amazon
Same yo
That was the beginning we still have years to go
Same bro I dont got to buy a kit
I updated my controller and it didn’t work for me
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I went through maybe 3 controllers that had this issue and never knew a fix so I just keep buying new ones. And this worked! You just saved me a ton of money.
Thanks Vince I was literally about to sell my controller but I fixed it with this video
I have just realised I have seen your videos before and thanks to this one I have been replacing audio ports and other parts on many controllers. Thanks!
Had exactly the same problem and looked it up a day before your video, took the plunge with a kit and socket from ebay, fixed in 3 minutes, happy days!
Great video. Helped me out a lot and you seem like a really nice, straight forward guy who doesn't waste anyone's time. Thanks again for the help.
Followed advice and now i have a happy 7 year cheers for helpful video
Thanks for sharing this valuable guide. Worked a treat. 3 controllers fixed for £9.00 . Good one.
Thanks so much Vince. You saved me and my dad $140. I would have had to buy a whole new elite controller, but we only spent $10 for a kit. It only took somewhere near 30 minutes to an hour to fix to. You the man. Thanks again.
Thank you!!! I ordered a kit with three jacks and the tools off of Amazon for $8. Did what you did and boom my son can now use his new headset. Both of our controllers had bad headphone jacks. So I am about to do the other one. New Xbox controller $50. One kit fixed both for $8 verses $100 for new remotes. No brainer.
My mate! Saved me a ton of money following this video and fixing my Elite Controller. Slightly different because there's another wire ribbon for the back buttons, but still close enough for me to follow along. You're my hero, hope you're out there slaying the game dude.
you NEED 1M SUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the vid was great!
Just saved me from buying a new remote, had a faulty aux in my SoT controller and swapped it for my regular controllers one. Will buy a new one and replace the broken one too. Thanks.
Chris Parry smh
Jesus SoT controller are crazy expensive so good call
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
Thanks for this video....this seems to be a very common problem with these controllers.
Mate, you did an excellent job of easily explaining how to swap the jack and I really appreciate the helpful video. I picked up one on Amazon that came with 3 jacks, pry tool and the 2 torx wrenches for $10.00 usa, and watched your video. Took me longer to clean the controller than to do the actual work. About 15 min total. Great job and appreciate you taking the time to post this Cheers mate!
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
great video man. I'm so glad your channel is thriving, its a fantastic channel, with varied but Great content. thanks Vince.
I just resurrected a 13 year old's controller by following this video. Cheers mate!
Thanks I got worried I had to get a new controller cause I didnt have the right screwdriver so I improvised and it worked😄
I have 6 controllers one with a working headphone jack and 1 without a huge deadzone. Can't wait for my parts to come in. Thx mate.
so I can't talk through my headset with controller A but works with controller B, like I can hear through controller A but it doesn't register my voice chat should I do this or might it be something else
Thanks so much. Your perfect instructions did the trick and I and have 2 happy boys with working headphones/controllers once again!
This was so helpful. Got the part everything went perfectly. Thank you
Fantastic clear no fuss video. fixed 2 controllers with one phono jack spare for under £8 off eBay.both working great thanks
Anyone have a problem were no headsets will work into tour controller? And doesn't shoe the audio setting in the system settings?
What did u do to fix it
This video is how you fix that man
It worked perfectly and it was surprisingly easy and fast with the right tools.
Thank you, you get a like sir
Perfect, great instructions. That a £3 repair instead of a new £50 controller! Although really angry that all 3 of our controllers have all had this fault and we only bought the Xbox last November! Really poor quality parts they use for this socket
Excellent video, huge help in fixing the audio port on my controller. Just had a fiddle with the prongs on my existing headphone jack and fixed the problem on the first go. Thanks again for the clear instructions and explanation!
Thank you very much
Just fixed my controller with a part from an old controller
Thanks Vince, mine fell off while cleaning and I thought I had broken it.. never knew it was such a simple fix lol
Thanks for the guide, I was able to move the pins on the existing headphone jack and put it back in. I don't know how long this fix will last, but it is working so far.
Yo thx so much without this video I would be lost
Thanks for posting this video it was a huge help. I got the new part and installed it with no issues thanks to your great directions.
The best video on u tube really helpful and saved me buying new controller as it was out of warranty. Clear easy to follow. Thanks pal!!!!!!!!
Great video, I ordered the part only to realize that I had to update my controller in settings. Fixed my headset issues perfectly😅
Thank you so much!!! You seriously saved me a lot of hassle trying to figure this out by myself.
Tried this today with a kit from China, works perfectly- thank you !!
Thanks. This worked perfectly on two broken controllers. So grateful for the video.
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
Appreciate the video. Had this happen over the holiday . Just stopped working all of a sudden too.
Hey man thank you for much for this, really helped me out and saved some money instead of buying a new controller! You're awesome!
I got my two controllers repaired yesterday. But they used security torx screws in my model 1708. inside the screws head there is a metal pin, so impossible to open with a normal torx screwdriver. the sollution was to use a Dremel tool with the smallest diamond drill bit and frase it out first. After that it was easy to replace them.
Thank you for the nicely detailed instructions. I wanted to teach my grandson to try repairing things before buying a new one. Success.👏👏👏
Cheers for the vid mate, just fixed 2 controllers, saved me £80. Ordered parts and kit as suggested. Easy stuff. Seems like a common fault too.
Easy follow, fixed two controllers tonight following your vid 👍🏻
Great work Vince!, thanks for your help...just brought my kid's controller back to life with a $4 part.
Thanks vince I done the exact same thing I bypassed the warranty sticker I seen a few youtubers rip right through it great video as always vince
Thanks man this has happened to two of my controllers and I would much rather pay $3 than $60
this is a lifesaver i bought and $8 set and it took about two weeks to arrive it worked perfectly
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
As if I was about to buy a new controller
I kno. I was too
You have legit saved me from spending anymore money on controllers !!
Bigjay062 did your screws have little like blockers in them? My torx wont go in because its like a little circle blocking the middle of the head
Worked like a charm on 3 controllers, saved me a ton of money. Thank you!
it was very easy to do, I was nervous at first but overall fairly simple. The hardest part about it is getting the right T-screw drivers luckily had purchased a tool kit long time ago never used it until now
Awesome vid bro. Thanks heaps. I just fixed the kids controller. Actually expected to fail. Lol.
Appreciate it.
Could you do a video of how to change the charge port on the Xbox one controller. One of mine doesn't charge. Great videos btw
Thanks for this, helped me out so much and i saved £50 in a new controller! Really clear instructions, did it in 10 minutes, its frustrating how weak the original headphone jacks are on Xbox controllers.
Your fix it videos are the best!
I have two Xbox remotes that have that issue. I can't believe Microsoft would put headphone Jacks that are so cheap. It is mind-boggling that they would use a headphone jack that is non soldered. One of them stopped working after a few weeks the other one after a few months. I will try this fix. Thank you for the video.
Great video. Lot of good hints and helped me get our mic going again. Thanks.
Dude you’re a legend. I was worried I might have to get new headphones or a new controller but I used the second method and it didn’t quite work at first but after a few tries they work just fine! 🙌🏻
Another great video Vince !!
i love you i was so worried i would have to buy a whole new remote and you saved me 70 bucks
U just saved me a lot of money
Thanks man!
Thank you I just ordered a replacement audio jack £2.91. I hope this fixes my problem
For the vibration motors you should use a bit of tape to hold them in it saved me big time when I dropped my controller while repairing a trigger vibration motor
Thank you so much! I was worried i was going to have to buy a new controller but this worked perfectly!
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
Thank you very much! I've got 4 to fix and this will be far, far cheaper than to send them in to get repaired
Thank you so much, fantastic video, so easy to follow. 2 controllers back in action for less than a fiver!
does your mic work as well? I heard a couple people say that they could hear sound, but not their mic.
Very useful tip thanks Vince keep up the good work
Too easy - thanks for the instructions mate.
My dad works in a storage/material kinda place and he sneaked me around 35 model 1706 mic jacks, thx for how to put them in 😂❤️❤️
great video, helped alot, saved me a bunch of money buying new controllers!
Thank you for the tutorial. Turned out the jack wasn't the problem but now I no for the future.
This was so helpful any easy no way anyone can mess it up
Thank you so much! I changed mine out and now it works!!!
Excellent walk through, good job 👍
