this is the first thing i’d ever seen jared harris in! definitely one of my favorite actors, elevates everything he’s in, and that’s true of the expanse and of this show
"Let's find out how many people die in the first 5 minutes!" Although the similarities to X-Files eventually fade away, this is one that stays strong. Back in the day during our X-Files watch parties, my friends and I used to say, "Don't be in the cold open!" I brought that back for my Fringe watch parties. 😁
Finally! I've been waiting for this episode. In my opnion it is THE episode when the show really starts. It has everything - weird science, strange revelations about the past, wacky sense of humour, gross & disturbing science in use for something barely understood and finally the introduction of one of pivotal characters - no wonder his name is even in the title. Mr. Jones is a great character and the fact he is played by Jared Harris only makes him even more fascinating. Of course as a true bad guy he is British. BTW it is another 'Review Crew channel deep cut' because he played Anderson Dawes in the first seasons of the Expanse. However the first was with Ebon Moss-Bachrach from two episodes ago. He appeared in episodes 4-6 of Andor, you've reacted to when you were starting with the reactions. It is pretty cool, I think, to encounter actors we've already met elsewhere and we know they can deliver. When it comes to the plot in such weird situations it often begs a question - was there no easier way to achive exactly the same results? But not here, because this is Fringe and weird stuff is pretty usual. Good that creators of the show manage to surprise us, even when we expect something really strange. And it is just barely scratching the surface of the weird and the unexpected. Cheers guys!
What sounds like the ravings of a sociopath will make a lot more sense later. You need to understand one thing about this show...there will always be more going on than you realize (until you look back upon it later) and you will always have more questions.
I've seen Jared Harris (David Robert Jones) in many things but only realised recently that his father is Richard Harris. While there are of course the monster of the week episodes that somehow link to the pattern, this one moves the arc on with ZFT.
Yes, Walter is a "mad scientist." This was my first view of Jarrod Harris before I saw him in The Expanse or Mad Men. Very cool. They don't waste him. Diplomats operate in the information that both countries (their own and the country they're posted to) openly gives them. The US can tell it's ambassador in China, "We have information that the Chinese are doing X thing we don't like. Tell them we know and to stop it." The Chinese respond to him, "We're doing nothing of the sort. Your intelligence is faulty." There is likely a CIA operation going on from the embassy, however, but the diplomats are not ostensibly part of it. The Observer was at the airport.
Sometimes I'm confident that all three of you are genuinely enjoying this show. Other times I'm really not sure at all lol. I hope you all are! Mikey already ships Peter and Olivia, so that's a good sign. And it's impossible not to love Walter. But it really does get better and better from here on out. I know everybody says that about shows they like but in this case it's the truth 😂
6:12 THE GERMAN PRISON was a totaly lazy fake in all details Besides from Anna Torv´s surprisingly fluent German not even the uniforms of the guards fit the autheniic German standards. ( There are stores around selling or renting those out to movie makers ) So I felt with this like in a Student Project of a movie not even anymore of B-movie quality A real prison fitting for such an inmate had been STAMMHEIM, near KASSEL in Germany were the members of the political paramilitaric BAADER MEINOF GANG and the ROTE ARMEE FRAKTION had been hold because it had been an specially improved HIGH SECURITY Federal JAIL for extremly dangerous inmmates in Germany. The script laked here a certain amout of research. Easy to be found under Wikipedia and other sources. To be honest that had disappointed me a bit since, as you can see, the story is otherwise really well done with many interesting details. Other American Co-Prodctiions did in that regard a mucu more convincing job like CROSSING LINES for example Schönen Tag noch Jungs !

This is when the show really takes off.
10:45 This is the kind of thing that convinces me the premise of the show is just "what if the evil mad scientist turns into a good guy?"
👻 Hug for Mike (if he needs it)

A few of the episodes even have copied X FILE scripts like the story about the Molde Man under a corn field in season 2
This was the first thing I ever saw Jared Harris in and I've loved him ever since
Jared Harris' appearance was one of the two big surprises. The next one... I can imagine your faces when it happens! 👀👀👀👀

This character's name is David Robert Jones which is David Bowie's real name. You guys have a long road ahead, but a great one!!!
Fun reaction guys. Love that we get the wonderful Jared Harris as Mr. Jones. As others have posted, this episode does jump start the main story.
My teenager opines that the only difference between science and "screwing around" is that with science, you write stuff down.
The show really starts cooking now…

It's aways funny finding what experiments Walter performed on Peter.

Loved seeing Jared Harris aka Valery Legasov of "Chernobyl" as Dr. David Robert Jones in this episode.
That's right - on one of the posters (shown during the breaks), there is a butterfly with bones. The others are also interesting.
Mike, fruit cocktail contains small diced pieces of peaches, pears, pineapple, grapes, and cherry halves.
Olivia's pseudo boyfriend was great in Revolution.
He will always be Charlie Swan in The Twilight Saga films to Me.

Did you guys not recognize Anderson Dawes?
Mike did, Mikey didn't!!
