Quicktips from 2021; *If you can't find the intensity slider, it's nested in the HDR color palette *If your lights don't auto-bake, go to light-> scene and find the "generate lighting" button, then just wait until the baking is done
Fast Forward to today, September 22nd, 2021. Just now discovering Brackeys and these tutorials and saw your (@Jabrils) comment. How are you doing on Lighting and Animation in comparison to three years ago?
YES! more lightning please, this is litterally the biggest impact on how your game looks like. You can tell when a game is made in Unity just from developers ignoring it, but if they have worked on properly modifying their settings you start asking yourself if it's a Unity game or an Unreal game.
its just a shame how complicated it is to set up lighting, I dont really know how things are now, but there was a time when unity really needed better documentation on lighting
This video was so unbelievably helpful, I got frustrated awhile back trying to find information on how to do dark or night scenes and of course Brackey's comes out with an up to date video on it explaining it in a couple of minutes, thanks!
As a hobbyist game developer, lightning is one of the most obscure things in the entire process (baking, UVs, post processing etc.). This video really helps with the basics to make a scene look good! I will surely get back here many times.
I believe there is also a cool asset pack you can find in the Unity store that simulates shadows for 2D games :) ! Of course you can also just paint lights in Ps !
Holy molly! 95% of the video, I was totally amazed and just wanted to jump straight in Unity to try all this! You make it so easy to understand, thank you for providing those tutorials!
You can use simple calculations in the inspector. E.q. when your object is on x-position "-2.5" you can add just "+0.1", so you have "-2.5+0.1" if you hit enter, you get the result as the new x-position. Enjoy.
... i remember my first reaction to point lights in unity like: "woooooooooow" ... and now i saw this XD Just epic! Nice video as always :D thanks for that one
I watch these videos, and never understand anything. But I still watch them because it is so cool watching you hit buttons and making a game seem to just appear!
Awesome video! Do you know if it's possible to re-bake the area light/emissive material when in the game by pressing a button? Let's say I move objects and lights around and need to see the results during the game. Is that possible to program by pressing a button to recalculate lights? I'm supposing it's still not possible to use realtime area lights in Unity. Is that right?
I'm assuming you should probably just use unitys real-time light then. I don't think it'd possible to bake lights in unity in game. I could be wrong but I think you cant.
That was the best lighting tutorial for unity ever. I struggled a lot with shadow maps. I hope this will help me a lot. Thanks both to you and LMHPoly!
More lighting videos please! You explained progressive lighting EXTREMELY well in this video, and I would love to see more videos on the topic. Great job as usual!
The original guy is amazing as well.. When I saw your thumbnail, I was like : "woah, brackeys did what the other guy did in a video I saw few months ago" Then I thought, "Its Brackeys, so there will be something more", and then at the start, he mentions the original guy in the video.. Love Brackeys always..
by default, 2D objects are unlit (not affected by any lighting whatsoever), you can change them to a builtin lit shader, which will allow them to work similarly to 3D lighting, but it generally doesn't look that great.
In Ori and the Blind Forest, the only character that's a completely 2D rig is Ori. She does nothing but emit light, so shadows aren't a problem. There's no other way around this unless you're gonna be a complete madman and go through every possibility of lighting on every single frame.
blogs.unity3d.com/es/2017/08/11/unityscripts-long-ride-off-into-the-sunset/ "Secondly, you might have already noticed: the Unity 2017.2 beta no longer has a ‘Javascript’ (a.k.a UnityScript) option in the Create Assets menu. All we have done at this point is remove the menu item; all the support is still there, and you will still be able to create new UnityScript files outside of Unity (for example, via MonoDevelop). We’re doing this to help ensure that new users do not continue to adopt UnityScript; it would be irresponsible of us to let them invest time in learning it when it is not long for this world." you can still use JS, but i really recommend learning c#
icenaryhr Sadly, I don't think there is any way to still code in js. If you were a beginner, then you will have a harder time with C#, but if you were a bit familiar with unity and made a couple of games, switching to C# would've been one of the next steps as it is so much powerful than js.
Very nice Video! In my game I want to let the player get damage, if he enters a "light-Zone"! Means that he can only move in the shadows! How can I do this? 😉 🤔

Hey man, just had the same "problem", the intensity value is now in the color picker, you'll see that there is a scale from -2 to +2 there, try messing with that, there is also a slider and a field that you can use to change the intensity value.
Reflections is easy. You can try Reflection Probe or SSR (Screen Space Reflection), which is more realistic but heavy too. UA-cam have some good tutorials about both. ;) Sorry about my english (i'm brazilian).

I would LOVE to see a video on realtime lighting!
They're really fun to make but they take AGES to compile after being baked with some properties enabled.

Awesome video! The new Post Processing Stack truly is magical, and you did an amazing job tweaking the values. Keep it up! :)
hello sykoooo! (i like your vids better! P.S.: dont tell brackeys :P)
What the heck are u doing in this channel?
I've always watched Brackeys' content - is that surprising? :o
No, I think is very nice. You can make a collab with brackeys, that's my dream

This guy makes the best tutorials on UA-cam I swear. Just the details he goes into and how simple he does that makes everything so easy to learn.
i definitely want a video about realtime lighting!
16 minutes and i've learned more about Unity than hours and hours of other videos. Life is short, choose Brackeys.
