Without the .50 barrel, the force all exited the barrel faster than the bullet even. If it had a correct barrel but the frame from the shotgun, it would have blown it apart.
@@cannonfodder4812 Makes sense, it couldn’t have built much pressure with the projectile being so much smaller than the bore. I guess I just figured it would be too much powder for a 12 gauge. Shows what I know haha.
Most new England single shots are rated for magnum shells the real issue would be when you mated the new barrel to the reciever. Its definitely something you might consider getting machined professionally.
It could maybe be just the type of shotgun or maybe brand of 50 bmg I’ve seen a video where a guy does this and loses his whole hand because the shotgun blew up
The case doing that is called fire forming, and is actually beneficial in shooting, as it creates a gas seal, although obviously in this extreme example it's not good lol. The burning powder is due to an inefficient powder burn, from a lack of pressure as the projectile does not form a seal. Burning powder hits the paper, then ignites the unburnt powder that already had peppered the paper.
Yep, this is why a proper crimp is necessary for consistent bullet performance and a nice tight chamber is needed or you end up getting blow-by and a lot of lost energy.
I bet if somehow they put a barrel on it made for the bullet size it would explode, all the potential energy went out the barrel along with the bullet, thats why it only went thru like a couple inches of paper.
In a non-shotgun rifle, the barrel is rifled or grooved, which means the bullet has to be carved as it passes thru the barrel which is also the reason why the bullet spins. It takes a high pressure gas of the explosion to push that bullet right thru because it is tight. In that shotgun, the diameter of the bore is much larger than the .50 BMG bullet and there's no groove in it. It is smooth bore so there's nothing to hold the bullet or carve it as it passes thru the barrel, so there's not much pressure buildup inside the barrel. The slow motion of the second shot shows the fire going backwards from them of paper with no apparent fire coming from the barrel . I think your incendiary round worked as advertised . Great video ! Enjoyed it !
Someone else in the comments said a 20 ga. would've been a better fit, is this correct? I'm wondering if the natural choke on the barrel would be to tight for the round exiting.
@@NaruSanavai I originally thought that the gas pressure would be greater than the barrel could handle from a large caliber round. But ya you're right. That's why I was impressed that barrel could handle it .
Shotgun barrels are quite sturdy things, and since there’s no wadding behind the BMG bullet, there won’t be much gas seal, which results in very low pressures as smokeless gunpowder need pressure to actually work. Hence you see it ejecting most of the powder along with the bullet in the second shot.
Me too. Now I would like to see them shoot one of those bullets in an old shotgun with a black powder barrel or one of the old wire barrels or a demascus barrel. LOL, these guys are nuts but I would try it the way they did. LOL
Somehow I imagine that only little boys of all ages will be watching this delightful offering. Any women who stumble in should know that THIS is what a little boy of any age IS. Thanks, Edwin!
Try wrapping the neck of the 50bmg case with electrical tape till it’s the same diameter as the body of the case. This should change how the bullet leaves the case adding velocity and pressure
Possibly would change the condition of the barrel after the shot, I.E, it would get the result the guys were looking for in the first place - 12 gauge peeled banana. I actually think the tape wouldnt hold up to the pressure, would blow off ahead of the projectile.
The bullet is still much smaller than the barrel, it might help a tiny bit, but woulden't be noticable on the bullet... could be noticable on the breach thou...
There was a british Greener shotgun which was made for odd bore, but criminals would just use some paper to wrap a .410 to meet the required diameter. That actually led to a crazy new case that was necked in the middle and had some wierd as hell rings around the primer or soem shit, don't recall.

After decades of being a sportsman and firearms enthusiast I've never seen this. Thank you
The slow motion of the second shot shows the fire going backwards from them of paper with no apparent fire coming from the barrel . I think your incendiary round worked as advertised . Great video ! Enjoyed it !
I agree.
Aye yo, ain't no body gonna talk about how cool that shell catch at the beginning is. At 1:10
Fuckin right?
it was but then he missed the next one:(

You mean where his muzzle control was all over the place...yeah, super cool
@@rickd1369 there’s no one in front of the barrel chill
Technically, a 12 gauge is equivalent to a 72 caliber, so 50 BMG is smaller
Someone else in the comments said a 20 ga. would've been a better fit, is this correct? I'm wondering if the natural choke on the barrel would be to tight for the round exiting.
@@S.P.B.222 For the bullet, itself? Yes. It wouldn't chamber the casing, though.
@@brianwesley28 Thanks! This is pretty interesting stuff 👍
It’s over Anakin I have the shotgun chambered in .50 BMG

“Welcome back to the science channel”
Science sure does sound fun
I literally thought the barrel would've exploded or a least make the shotgun inoperable. But the fact that neither happened is impressive.
Why would it explode? There's too much space in the barrel for all of the gas (and powder) to vent out.
90% blow by saved the barrel...
The endless imagination and the joy of you both, guys, is just amazing!

How does joe biden have anything to do with guns?
@@alluuup7513because he said he wants AR’s gone and that hunting can be done with a shotgun. I’m assuming that’s their point.

Not gonna lie, that first round made my butt pucker! I was expecting the shotgun to blow up or something 😂

Some half American dous: "Ok...."
Try wrapping the neck of the 50bmg case with electrical tape till it’s the same diameter as the body of the case. This should change how the bullet leaves the case adding velocity and pressure
My thoughts exactly
That is just freaking cool. Been in military for a long time and never knew this. Outstanding vid my friend.
"the incendiary did not go of "
*proceeds to keep it in hand
The incendiary needs to hit a hard surface to go off. Holding it should be completely safe.
