I'd mod an STi. My buddy and I did wheel/tire, brake and front lower subframe brace to his 2014 WRX and he's in heaven. He bought the 2014 to replace his 2006 WRX Limited that was wrecked from behind.
Stephn Gibson too many people think you need some giant front mount on a stock turbo I don’t get it. Tbh I don’t think you NEED a front mount till it has a rotated turbo
@@imdabeast100 The ''need'' is not what it's about, it's about power and consistent power. You can get a extra 10-15 hp from a intercooler change, in any form, but, if you know these cars then you know where the turbo sits. Turbos make heat and bigger ones make more heat. Taking the intercooler from under the hood and putting it in the front will almost eliminate all heat soak. Your car will be able to keep making that HP as you drive instead of losing it to the heat. That being said, I prefer the top mount, and will probably just upgrade that instead of going front mount.
Crazy thought: how hard would it be, to swap an STI engine and drivetrain into my first gen Outback... I'm seriously thinking about doing it. But this one seems better than the new S209 STI.
@@Peteiredale8812 sorry for late response but yup that’s what happened, it’s currently being built again at baxleys speed shop in windham maine, you can follow build there, but new owner is shooting for 800whp dumping like $30k into it
@wheeliemaster415 lot of money for it to blow up again. These engines aren't designed for this power even modded. Sure can get a few passes and a few dozen k miles if you don't go nuts but not worth 30k
WesternSTi Started with a WRX and swapped literally everything from A STi I mean everything including interior and subframes Dccd controller everything minus the engine. Because swapping a FA into a STi would be a lot harder a lot more wiring to be done. But yes WRX 😁
Mike Ceja I had a feeling that’s what you meant.... that’s actually really awesome! Do you have photos/build list somewhere? Mine(the STI in the video) is on Wheelwell.com
WesternSTi unfortunately no video 😔my friends told me the same thing that I should of recorded the whole swap however the process took me roughly 30hours of labor using 2 lifts to have the two cars side by side. But thanks
I’d like to make that drive from South Carolina to Georgia to let you drive my 15 Sti. I’m building it in stages but the difference imo is noticeable. Great review and clean Sti
I’ve seen STi’s go 50,000 miles at 400whp on stock internals. Is that crazy? Not necessarily but it goes to show it is possible if you actually take care of the car properly and don’t beat the shit out of it constantly
How often do you use that 400 though? I know a guy with a stage 1 iag block in a 2005 STI with a 3.5 dom turbo pushing 600WHP with e85 and to be honest hes at 67k on the current block BUT he barely uses that 600whp only when he feels like it, which is like 3 times a month. The rest of the time hes just cruising. He also does 100 miles a day too. I'm just curious because I have an 04 sti and I bought a stage 2 block from iag because I had planned at one point to push 450whp on 93 and wanted to be somewhat safe about it.
MrDjvas People chase hp numbers just for bragging rights really. You’re right, a lot of the time people rarely use their hp. Once you get to a certain level of fast, the only place you can use your car to its true potential is at a track. So unless you have a track nearby that you plan on visiting often and don’t want to risk trouble with law enforcement, funneling money into making your car faster is not really worth it.
The key is engine oil viscosity, heating up the motor properly and also constant oil changes. Ej25 is a bit like the bmw e9X m3 motor s65. Bearings need to be taken care of.
If you can only get 50 k with 400 who you've wasted ao much money. 20k bare min on any sti 06' and up plus easily 20k in mods unless you risk stock internals.
My favorite gen (post-facelift), next to the GC/GM platform. None of that "narrowbody" 07-11 stuff tho, they just look off to me.. I mean, is a WRX w/o flared/blister fenders even really a WRX? LOL!
running a 450whp sti on a tmic? Wow. Interesting. When I had my 06 Hawkeye it had a built motor and and similar power leve. Of course I went fmic bc my tuner told me this whole thing of fmic having lag is a myth. I mean it will but with the right tune u almost wont feel it

You can tell when someone gives a Real shit when they focus on the important things of making a car fast, and not just "big numbers". Balancing the car correctly is FAR more important than just jamming a bunch of HP into it.
I think after having two...you're putting your money in the wrong place. Leave them stock and enjoy what they do. Mod them and they become ticking time bombs.
WhatIWant I’d say stock and service regularly. Everyone’s got a different version of lightly modified. Some people say a COBB OTS tune, TGV deletes, exhaust to help them breathe, etc. It’s a poor platform for modification.
Yohan lo that’s like getting upset if a 2jz or k series motor goes kaput before the 200k mark. More often than not they’re long lasting/reliable but every so often you get an outlier. Modified turbocharged Subarus are the opposite. If you spend enough time in the community, you’ll see guys who drop 25k+ into these builds and put them up for sale before they’re barely broken in. Why? Ticking time bombs.
There's ones out there running 400-430whp on the stock motor... but the cast pistons are a bit weak from factory, so if your tune is shit they don't hold up long. Boxer engines are sensitive to AFRs so a good tune and regular maintaince are a must if you want the stock components to last as long as possible. Most people suck with Subarus and don't know what they're doing when it comes to mods or tuning..
@@TTime685 right that's the thing, ej's are kinda like rotaries, you really have to take care of em and get a good tune to make them reliable, where as something like a 2jz, you can just slap on a big turbo on a stock motor and make 500+
I love it! The sti has always been my dream car! Love the vids man. Glad to see someone from Va be successful on UA-cam. Make us Va car guys proud lol 😂
AWD is awesome, i own an xc70 where the awd system has failed but i don't think it's a major issue, but i do miss it and there is no mistake, the AWD does wounders in icy conditions
Only got about half way through this video. When you talk about whether something is worth it or not, I think it's somewhat helpful to understand: 1. How much did it cost 2. Worth it COMPARED TO WHAT I don't really care about a review of someone else's car, especially when it's ben made up of a Frankenstein list of parts, where the parts list hasn't been disclosed in entirety. How could I build a project that way, without having a bill of materials? I saw a separate review of an STI, where the review covered the parts and costs. A car which cost around $25k to buy, ended up costing around $80k (as I said, with full parts list). In THAT review, it was easier to understand "is it really worth building", because you know what it cost, and what went into it. And no, I don't think the 80k car was worth building. I would love to understand this one, but as I said, I only got about halfway through before you lost me. The reason I'm leaving a lengthy post, is because I think you can do better, and the above are what appeals to ME, and I suspect maybe to other people amongst your 1m+ subscribers.

I like it, but i personally like the body of the 2015 or hawkeye/blobeye more.
The sti is awesome and gives me a good feel that I can't wait until my WRX done. It's going on a 3 year project now.
The fact it’s still TMIC 100% Subaru
That interior is literally the best interior I’ve seen. Respects to this man!
That's the best sounding scoobie I've heard in a while
Awesome video, David! Keep up the good work!!
Crazy thought: how hard would it be, to swap an STI engine and drivetrain into my first gen Outback... I'm seriously thinking about doing it. But this one seems better than the new S209 STI.
Gotta love Subaru’s 🔥💯
The fake Bruh no doubt 💯
wow, that blue looks awesome, especially on the dash.
and that Tomei, sounds very nice.
The 512hp blobeye he reviewed is blown up as of a few months ago, I owned it sold it to someone and they blew it up lol
Damn really
how much you think we put into the build?
@@Peteiredale8812 sorry for late response but yup that’s what happened, it’s currently being built again at baxleys speed shop in windham maine, you can follow build there, but new owner is shooting for 800whp dumping like $30k into it
@wheeliemaster415 lot of money for it to blow up again. These engines aren't designed for this power even modded. Sure can get a few passes and a few dozen k miles if you don't go nuts but not worth 30k
That sound at 4:36 just sick Subaru forever
ayeee thats litt bro my subi is coming soon !
that's cringe bro.
i think my head gasket just blew from watching this, gotta go check it real quick
Sir Wattson L
I love Subaru.. I have a built jdm ej205 that I love only other thing in need to to do my full 6 speed swap
But why though?
So I can can push more power and not have to worry about the 5 speed blowing up on me lmao
I have built a 17 STi with FA20DIT and it’s is very very nice so I definitely agree with Subaru needing to move into the next generation engine. 😁😁
Mike Ceja You mean WRX? Unless you put an FA in an STI 🤔
But thanks
Beautiful. Everything is Just Right.
That blue sued upholstery looks so nice bro
Still waiting for a 2015+ WRX review. No love for the WRX as the STi or even the older WRX’s on here
I'd love for him to review a clean gc8 on the channel! Or a newer one
@@RK1FX thank you
If you can only get 50 k with 400 who you've wasted ao much money. 20k bare min on any sti 06' and up plus easily 20k in mods unless you risk stock internals.
Finally someone who keeps the exterior simple and clean
My favorite gen (post-facelift), next to the GC/GM platform. None of that "narrowbody" 07-11 stuff tho, they just look off to me.. I mean, is a WRX w/o flared/blister fenders even really a WRX? LOL!
Love that generation of sti’s. I’ve seen them in the southern Ohio forest rally’s in recent years and these cars tear up!
Steps for a fast STI
1. Sell it
2. Buy S3/RS3
3. Slap a tune on it and make more power than a modded STi
4. Saves you more money for vape gear.
Automatic
No hatch, no manual, no symmetrical awd, no boxer sounds, no hood scoop.
Brady Parlin better quality interior, warranty, no bad stereotype, not every other 16 year old has one 😬
BIG FACTS
I chose to go the M3 route instead 🤓
I currently am picking up a 2013 Subaru wrx sti in tangerine orange! I’ll be slowly buying parts to build it up to 500 whp!
running a 450whp sti on a tmic? Wow. Interesting. When I had my 06 Hawkeye it had a built motor and and similar power leve. Of course I went fmic bc my tuner told me this whole thing of fmic having lag is a myth. I mean it will but with the right tune u almost wont feel it
Agreed. Its not a myth but definitely not perceivable.. 05-07 are the best STIs
WRX’s & STI’s are like civics here in NH, absolutely everywhere. So glad I have my EVO.
Evo Guy 603 It’s because you Evo guys are too busy being on jack stands.
Funny you say that, have some I can borrow?
I love the sounds these built subies make. I drive a GTI so it's just a tractor with farts lol
I have a Mk7 haha and I love it. Just the sound that's lacking in my opinion haha
Hahahaha. I like how your car looks though.
Ummm you could pull more power out of any vw 1.8t for dirt cheap than any sti
Now thats a freaking build! 6 years my guy? Wow! Respect dude
Tadthebrave 🙏🏻🙏🏻 And there’s always more to do!
8,5:1 insane cr? Isnt that stock?
insanely low imo especially for e85
Thats what David said. Stock.
not stock. stock ej257 (sti) have 8.2:1, where ej255 (08-14 wrx) have 8.5:1
@@bradyparlin9626 by no means is that insane, with e85 you can easily run 10:1 and upwards..
Gregor Ment Isn’t higher compression more harder to tune with?
That Boxer rumble is like music to my ears
Makes me wanna double down and build mine out!
Me too bro. Lol
same
I might be buying a 2012 built STI soon, everything’s been touched
8.5 :1 is low...
"Insanely" low 🤷? I don't know how to defend that gaffe.
Yeah I kinda laughed at that. 8.5:1 is pretty well standard for turbo cars lol. A lot of the guys after big power are in the 10-11:1 range
And not that far off from a stock ej257 at 8.2:1
@@MichaelKaufman257 its funny because that generation wrx with the ej255 already have higher compression at 8.5:1
That's why on 1atm/15psi(double the atmospheric pressure) of boost it has like 250hp out of 2.5...
Normally don't like subarus but that one is hands down sick
hey there would you be interested in doing a review drive along with my 2001 mustang cobra new edge with the hellion turbocharger system and tons of mods installed... i would love to let you review my cobra if you would be interested!! it is a powerful 4 valve... let me know if you would be down id love to give you some seat time!! also i would absolutely love some of your rim cleaner!! that is what im missing in my life!!
-P3T3R
He has a video on the process of how to get in touch with him if you want to offer your car to review.
Peter Piccolo no
Im sure you're just looking to get your rim cleaned
Goals for a subaru right there, clean, reliable, and actual handling mods. Did the mods help with understeer David? or could you tell?
Get an Evo won't have to rebuild as soon. Stronger internals.
Michael Pullins sounds like he touched a bit of a nerve I see?
depressedsweater Haha Only good thing about evos is the motor. Everything else is crap.
You can tell when someone gives a Real shit when they focus on the important things of making a car fast, and not just "big numbers". Balancing the car correctly is FAR more important than just jamming a bunch of HP into it.
Sti hatch > everything else
🚫
Yes I agree! A Subaru is not a Subaru without the classis Subaru rumble!
Is he eql on this vid , please respond thaka
I think after having two...you're putting your money in the wrong place. Leave them stock and enjoy what they do. Mod them and they become ticking time bombs.
I wouldn't say stock, but I'd say light mods.
WhatIWant I’d say stock and service regularly. Everyone’s got a different version of lightly modified. Some people say a COBB OTS tune, TGV deletes, exhaust to help them breathe, etc. It’s a poor platform for modification.
woweye GG 450whp stock block for 3 years doesn’t sound like a ticking time bomb to me.
That Doode was really in alot of BLUE!
😂😂😂
Sad that you have to build the motor just to make 450hp, but hey, anything for that rumble amirite 😂
Most people suck with Subarus and don't know what they're doing when it comes to mods or tuning..
ua-cam.com/video/RzBar56hM-8/v-deo.html
@@TTime685 right that's the thing, ej's are kinda like rotaries, you really have to take care of em and get a good tune to make them reliable, where as something like a 2jz, you can just slap on a big turbo on a stock motor and make 500+
You’re right. But hey, no ragrets. I’ve invested too much into my 04 already but I love it.
@@Jsmoove917 amen brother 🙏 would love to build an 06 one day if I have the money 😅
I love it! The sti has always been my dream car! Love the vids man. Glad to see someone from Va be successful on UA-cam. Make us Va car guys proud lol 😂
No one:
Not a single soul:
Subie bros: do you vape bro 💨
No I do not vape
David F my bad
AWD is awesome, i own an xc70 where the awd system has failed but i don't think it's a major issue, but i do miss it and there is no mistake, the AWD does wounders in icy conditions
liked for a fellow GA STi owner Way to go Jeff
Nice setup. This is my ideal setup for this chassis. Hopefully I can get similar results
I remember when my dad had a 450hp bug eye, it sat next to his usdm itr
Depends on the application and money for me, but just in general I prefer the subbie rumble
Only got about half way through this video. When you talk about whether something is worth it or not, I think it's somewhat helpful to understand:
1. How much did it cost
2. Worth it COMPARED TO WHAT
I don't really care about a review of someone else's car, especially when it's ben made up of a Frankenstein list of parts, where the parts list hasn't been disclosed in entirety.
