Yes....I watched many TV shows as a child during the 1950's. Happy Trails sung by Roger's and Evans is memorable. Movies had great theme songs and soundtracks too ...sort of went downhill in the 1990's . Happy Trails to you !!
@@hilaryapril7043 I did too, along with my older sister and my parents. It seems amazing to me now that we had only one TV, but we managed to watch shows together without too many problems.
Wait, no. I remember. Each season started with the train at the start and the tinhorn people joining up. At the end of the season they would have a finale and head back to start over. At least that's as I remember the tale.
Gene Roddenberry pitched Star Trek to network executives, saying that Star Trek would be like a Wagon Train of the stars/space: Same kind of traveling, meeting the unknown and the raising of many interesting, ethical discussion topics. Pretty cool that Wagon Train!!! Today, we have "the masked singer. (sigh.)" I sure do miss the "smart" that used to come out of television writers' fingers.
Agreed Amy,all the older shows like Wagon Train had a moral compass that is sadly missed today on TV. I still love the old classics and their theme songs. I learned how to play my harmonicas along with the songs plus the old country music albums my mom had back in the day.
One of the top 5 western shows of all time on the air for many years it ranks 5th behind Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Big Valley and The Rifleman shows like these you,ll never see again !!!!!
Lovely music- great show! I watch it sometimes on MeTV late at night. I remember when it was on TV back in the early 1960's, and watching it then, too.
I love it. Sometimes, even now, all of those years later, I catch myself humming that tune, great days, when I thought that the World was everything that they told me it was going to be.....
@@johnjarou2357 Jerome Moross composed this great theme and was responsible for the wonderful music from the greatest western film of all time, The Big Country !!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard this tune as I was eating in a Chinese restaurant. Slower, and sung in Chinese. It's written in a pentatonic scale, or by using only the black keys on the piano. I about dropped my fork, I said, That's Wagon Train! I think the waiter said the lyrics were a sad love song.

This theme song just popped into my head for no reason, and I was sure it was "Wagon Train". Thank goodness for UA-cam and all of the awesome people who go to all of the trouble to create videos like this. I loved this show when I was a kid, but more so before Ward Bond passed away. John McIntire was good, but it just wasn't quite the same. I miss the good old days of television.
Always been curious about the French Horn since I was school band but I played the trombone. I really like how it sounds on the theme song on Wagon Train.
I love listening to this theme it's so beautiful to hear well mainly because I love watching the series on me TV great show with fond memories rest in peace brothers and sisters .
This was the third and last of the three that were used. Once they got to this one, they never did change it! If you hear the theme they used BEFORE this one, you'll know why they adopted this one.
This is driving me loco.. Now I *know* that the 2nd season ending credits they scrapped the vocals in 'Roll Along' by Johnny Mercer for an instrumental of the same song, but it just doesn't exist on the net...
theme song to wagon train, WAGON TRAIN WAGON TRAIN, WHERE WILL YOU BE HEADING NOW? YOU ARE GOING ON A JOURNEY, WAGON TRAIN. WAGON TRAIN, WAGON TRAIN, YOUR ADVENTURES STARTING NOW, YOU ARE HEADING DOWN A NEW TRAIL WAGON TRAIN.
They get to Sacramento on two episodes: "Round the Horn" and the one when the daughter tried to find her mother before was totally blind. Her mother could sing beautifully before she fell and gotten a scar. I'll let you see the rest. That was a beautiful story. I love Wagon Train especially with Ward Bond and Robert Horton.
Sounds a lot like "To the Sky"!!?? Was working with granddaughter on her contest solo and thought, Wow that reminds me of something. Hummed it for 500 miles and decided it had to be Wagon Train! I could pinpoint all the old westerns but it. Sure nuff!!
Looking for the rendition where the trombones interrupt with some rumpity rump action. Must be rare can't find it anywhere. The credit at the end of this show was given to Harold Grant n Sidney Keith wagon train theme.
Was hoping this was going to be the marvellous song I remember from this series. This rather bland instrumental version is not as good as the original arrangments from the earlier runs that featured some sophisticated strings and had that Jerome Moross sweep. Looking back at some of the earlier episodes makes one realise they did not age well whatsoever!
You may be thinking of another western of the era with Nick Adams. The show was called "THE REBEL" Cash did the theme song. If I am not mistaken the copyright usage expired some time back so now when you see the repeats the music is a generic production "free for release" commercial music composition and bed. Cash will be nowhere to be found unless the syndication group pays for a new release agreement.
No, it's not. The theme was written by Jerome Moross. This is an arrangement of it. He was best known as the composer of the score for The Big Country.
That song also is Played in a more Mellow version and a slightly lower tempo as Background music in the Gregory Peck and Jeff Chandler Film "The Jayhawkers"
The music composition for the '50's television themes is some of the greatest music ever written... Themes such as this always blow me away.

That's how Rawhide did it too. Each season was a different cattle drive.
I couldn't stop laughing.. Ward Bond putting them through that endless nightmare. lol
