We Spent a Week at Anchor in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

  • In this week's video, we dive behind the scenes with the Loon crew as they spend a week at anchor just after the Monaco GP while preparing for the remainder of their busy summer charter season.
Come along as the crew experience a brand-new Golf simulator called Off The Deck for the first time.
Chief Stewardess Courtney will take you shopping to stock Loon for the next few weeks.
Captain Paul faces extreme conditions and needs to act fast after some unpredicted weather hits fast. This forces Captain Paul to wake up the entire deck crew and get the tenders off the side of Loon in a hurry, which results in the loss of an anchor.
For anyone wondering, all the golf balls used in this video are environmentally friendly biodegradable balls that dissolve into fish food once submerged. We love the ocean that we sail on and would never put plastic balls into the water.
We are excited to announce the launch of our Loon Crew Patreon account. Members will get exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the crew and even have the opportunity to join the crew onboard for a member lunch.

People worry too much about admitting mistakes. This world would be a much better place if people simply communicated more openly without silly fears about what someone else thinks of them.

    • @Lintary
      @Lintary 8 днів тому +3

One thing I always teach people is that it is perfectly fine to make most mistakes, as long as you learn from them and fix them. One the reasons I can personally work so fast is because I am not afraid of making a mistake, it takes me less time to fix up an occasional error than if I would to triple check everything.

It's not easy to be fully alert when awoken out of a sound sleep and in a panic. Takes a strong leader to admit when they made a mistake. But nice to see that the anchor was recovered. May you have calm water and following seas.

It's great that you show the work in the yacht in this video. I would find it very interesting to see the yacht from the inside more often and the work that the ladies do in the cabins and salons. From polishing to making the beds to cleaning the windows. So far we've seen a lot of the work outside and in the kitchen. But all three areas are very interesting.

Echoing other, great leadership taking the rap for the bitter end. In my hurry to get in the water off the Coronado Island off Mexico I was by myself and didn't correctly tie off my anchor line, when I surface Id saw the boat floating towards the windward side of the island and had it not been for my swim fins, it would have ended differently for me and the boat, but I relearned the correct line turns on the cleat.

The recurring refrain in almost every episode of the Downton Abbey TV show was that the time of many many servants in big houses would soon come to an end. Now it seems that those rolls have survived as staff and crews of superyachts. Obviously the crews are very well paid, and I suspect have as much fun as the charter guests.

Absolutely the Captain is responsible no matter how or why the chain wasn't secured. A captain should never shift blame away even to a crew member that made a mistake, though a private dressing down later would be in order. In the haste of securing the watercraft any number of things could have gone wrong as it happened in pressing, stressful, and less than ideal conditions, and it's not a perfect world, now is it? Frankly, it was worth the look on Paul's face was priceless when he fessed up to how it happened, and worth the mishap since property was recovered and all crew safe.

In CAPT Paul's defense, I would not think you would have to check if the anchor chain is attached when leaving a ship/boatyard (or the builder)!! Also a word to Temp Stew Dani, this was a job interview of sorts. I'm sure Chief Stew Courtney would agree! Cheers!

What is the average of a Crew member link of time working on a super yacht industry? And did your chef if a new Crew Chef? I really like this video.

How does that golf thing work? Do you hit normal golf balls or some floaty ones (would those not effect the first feet or movement and who gets the bonus task of collecting them)?
Anyhow, interesting video, gg getting the chain back!

@@FatGuyInaTruck Cool, thanks for sharing that :)
So the system has to be configured for which balls are being used or is the difference negligible?

10:03 I've seen enough of these to know Captain Paul is talking for us and not to the crew. I'm sure it's so we don't hear secret information. 😉
