This deserves more views/likes. Passed my written test first take with 2 wrong answers and 2 skips (one of the questions i skipped was a question on when is hand over hand steering allowed). Watching Drivers Ed Direct Driving School videos really helped. #18, #16, #14, #13, #12, #11, #10, #8, #7, #6, #3 #2 came up during my exam but phrased differently. So it's important to also listen to the explanations. In any case, for the exam, you get 3 chances. You can exhaust all your chances the same day if you want but I wouldn't recommend it especially if you are getting way less that the passing score (32/40 or 38/46, I believe). Also, if you are doing the test via a computer booth, you can skip questions (up to 3) if you absolutely dont know and it doesn't count against your overall score. Lastly, you would know if you got it right or not because it'll just move on to the next question if you do. Otherwise, a screen will come up showing you that you got it wrong and it shows you the correct answer to that question.
First of all, congrats!! Second of all, thanks for sharing your experience! It's comments like this that really help future drivers out there know what to expect on test day. Your insight is much appreciated and please stay safe out there as you continue on your life-long driving journey!

Your explanations are very comprehensive and the fact that you use some images to explain the topic in question is definitely helpful especially if you are a visual learner. Just took the knowledge test and thought I would list all I remember. 1. A police officer has the right to know about your car insurance. What to do when car skids. 3. What other vehicles have the right to share the road with light rail vehicle. 4. When a car with high beams is coming toward you where do you look. 5. When is it OK to make a right turn. 6. When to leave a six year old child in car. 7. Tricky one: Driving on freeway see an Emergency Vehicle parked to side of road and a tow truck with flashing yellow lights What do u do. One choice was to put of emergency flashers to warn drivers behind you of the two vehicles. Another was to change lanes, and reduce speed. This was correct answer. Forget other choice. 8. When making a left turn What traffic should you yield to: traffic coming from right; traffic coming from left and 3. Traffic facing you. 3 is correct. 9. Fairly tricky one about being stopped at Railroad tracks. The lights keep flashing after train has gone by. What do you do? Responses were: Go even though lights are flashing; Check tracks and if nothing is coming for 400 ft go. Last one wait for lights to stop flashing. 10.if a driver runs from an accident where someone was seriously injured whats the penalty? 11.where to start a turn from a one way street to a one way st. 12. Which lane to go into on a right turn from2 way street. 13 what direction should wheels be when waiting to make a left hand turn. 14. 2 questions about steering wheel, 9 to 3 position and answer to other was push/pull. That's all I remember now. Will post if I remember later. Good luck.
Maureen!!! Thank you so much for all of that wonderful info - we could make an entire video on your feedback alone... who knows, maybe we will when time allows :) Thanks so much for your thoughtful giving back to the test-taking community here. We appreciate you!
@DriversEdDirect thank you.! If I remember the others will add them. The wording was tricky. Especially the one about the emergency vehicle and tow truck. Spent time on it because of emergency vehicle which was confusing. Then realized it was just parked without lights flashing. Also one of the choices was to alert other drivers with emergency flashers which gave me pause. But then there wasn't an accident. The railroad track one also had answers that were partially appropriate, like noticing no other train was coming for 400 ft which could sound like the correct choice. Also the answers for the question about vehicles that can share the streets with light rail. One answer was pedestrians and something I can't remember. The other was trucks and busses. Finally correct answer was all vehicles. Had concerns about last one but couldn't think of one that wouldn't be allowed on roads.
@DriversEdDirect remembered 2 more questions on license renewal test. 1. Hand positions on steering wheel, 9 and 3 pm and also definition of push pull. Other was about the rear wheels on a truck making a turn having a smaller rotation compared to front wheels.
Love the way you present these lessons. I'm getting near 71 and I've got to test this next month.. I'd like to think my driving ability is still more than exceptional. My pet peeves are, people that pass trucks on major highways have a tendency to slow down to damn near the speed of the truck, stacking up traffic, very noticeable on I 5 and Hwy 99. Another is people making right turns have a tendency to turn from the center of the right lane instead of moving closer to the right curb. Another is when you go to pass someone in a passing lane or on an uphill grade they will speed up. Last but not nearly the least, the lack of turn signal use. I believe that if this state is going to make some feeble attempt to encourage proper driving etiquette they should at the very least try to enforce it. Oh, another one is people that use the left lane as their own personal lane. Thanks again for the very informative and enthusiastic and oft time funny, cute presentations.

If there is no limit line or crosswalk where your vehicle stop to enter the intersection? 8. A tailgate is behind you what do you do? 9 what is the speed limit at railway ? Hello Caleb! Many questions are common sense for sure, especially if you have ever driven or pay attention while being a passenger in a car. However, there are definitely a handful of questions that involve fine amounts, or exact distances that can be a little tricky unless you read the DMV handbook and take practice tests. Best of luck to you!
One thing that always confuses me is that when driving on a freeway you SHOULD match the speed of traffic so you don't congest traffic, even if it's over the posted speed limit. However, I got a question wrong because it said you should always drive at the posted speed limit even if traffic is driving faster than the speed limit? Don't the 2 sentences above contradict each other? Other than that great and helpful video.
Hello and great question - this is definitely one that gets a lot of test takers. You are NEVER legally allowed to drive over the posted speed limit, even if the traffic around you is driving faster. You only go with the flow of traffic when the flow of traffic is driving within the legal speed limit. Hope that helps!

13:40 Hello! I wanted to know why the left is preferred to the right. Is it because the blind spot is larger in comparison? Or is there another reason?
Hello back! The main reason is that (in the U.S. at least) faster traffic drives in the left lanes, so drivers usually expect to be passed on the left side. When you pass on the right, you often times catch drivers off-guard who don't expect faster traffic to the right of them. Hope that helps!

CONGRATS! Yes, for many drivers who are just renewing their license, they can now do this service completely online... so nice! First time drivers will still need to go into the DMV though!
Hello, CONGRATS on passing! Regarding your insurance, you'll have to ask them what kind of course they would accept for proof. They should be able to provide you with a list of approved courses you can take. Hope that helps!
I got questions like "When railroad didn't put gate, and red signal didn't change yet for the driver and nothing on the tracks yet", should you move after checking the left or right ?. or wait for turning signal to green. my doubt was what if signal didn't work at the time.. any thoughts
Hello, great question! According to the CA DMV, if you suspect that the railroad crossing devices are not working properly, then you should not cross and are supposed to call for emergency help. Here is the way it is worded in the DMV Handbook: *Do not go under lowering gates or around lowered gates. Flashing red warning lights indicate you must stop and wait. Do not proceed over the railroad tracks until the red lights stop flashing, even if the gate rises. If the gates are lowered and you do not see a train approaching, call the posted railroad emergency toll-free number or 9-1-1. Be ready to give a detailed description of your location.* Source: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/laws-and-rules-of-the-road/
Hello! That's great question. On the computer test, you have 7 minutes to answer each question. I am not 100% sure if the 2nd test you started would count as an official attempt. With that said, the best advice I can give you is to reach out to the DMV directly, they will be able to tell you how many attempts you have left. You can call the DMV at 1-800-777-0133 or start a chat with them here: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/contacting-dmv/ - just click on "Ask DMV" button in the bottom-right corner of the screen - I personally like the chat option, and I recommend that you request to chat with a live person. From my experience, most of the chat support specialists at the DMV are very helpful and you'll get your question answered within a few short minutes! Best of luck to you!
I got my first exam on Thursday. I did not pass because it was my first time take it and some questions I didn’t understand Also I did it practice online I did not readings book
Hello! You can read the CA DMV Handbook online here: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/ They have many language options available. The also have it available as a PDF here, it looks more like the paperback version and I like it a bit more: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/file/california-driver-handbook-pdf/ Hope that helps!
Hello there!! These questions are from CA tests, but most of the info applies to all states. We've had several comments from other state test takers who did well on their test using these videos. However, please be sure to read your state's DMV handbook for the most accurate info - especially in regards to alcohol and drug rules and teen driving laws/restrictions. Take care!
Hello!! This test and our other tests will help prepare you for the class C renewal test. If you are renewing your license, you can ignore the questions about teen driving rules for provisional licenses (first time drivers) - but 99% of these questions apply to ALL class C licensed drivers. I love the way you explained. Reading it to prepare my test. Thank you
Best of luck to you, thank you for the kind words!!
yes they are not kidding a hard test that it is, the last time i took the written test i aced it, but today i failed badly, i couldnt believe it and i study the handbook, they had some questions that i never seen before, by making the test much harder to pass also drives up revenue for dmv and they dont give you 5 chances to pass they give you 3, so study that handbook back and forth, good luck !

OMG i just cleared it on second attempt. On first i thought it as child play normal basic common sense question but they’re not. Just read whole book and cleared it toady. Even though you may know 70% of the things just read this books once (Washington driver guide).
Congrats on passing!! And yes, we 100% agree that reading your state's driver handbook is VERY important. Thanks for sharing!
I got the #1 hardest question on this practice test right a boo yah

im taking my permit test tomorrow!! wish me luck im so scaredd
Don't be too scared, you can definitely do it! Make sure to skim the DMV handbook one last time, it will really increase your chances!! YOU'VE GOT THIS!
@@DriversEdDirect i passed!! it was terrifying because i was close to failing. i was surprised at how many times pedestrians were mentioned in the test, but i just know that they always have right of way. tysm!

Many thanks from everyone at Drivers Ed Direct!
I failed 2 times already the 2nd time I took it I failed and I watched all your videos, I’m going gains this Tuesday is there any recommendations? I really need your help thanks!
We’re so sorry to hear about your struggles, but we’re confident you can do it this time! Third time is the charm!
Our biggest recommendation is to stay calm and take your time during the test. Focus on the things you’ve learned and practice as much as you can before your test on Tuesday.
If you can, try to drive with someone you trust beforehand to get comfortable.
You've got this, and we're rooting for you! Feel free to reach out if you need any more tips. Good luck and let us know how it goes! 🚗✨

Nice job, sincerely. 😊
I’m not a genius, but these questions seem like common sense
Hope that helps!
good review
Thank you!
Very helpful
Glad to hear that, thanks!

Did you pass
Hope you had the best of luck! How did it go??
13:40
Hello!
@@DriversEdDirect Oh, I see! That makes a lot of sense; thank you very much :)

❤❤❤❤Thanks
I'm trying to get my driver's permit 👍👍
Best of luck to you!!
I studied questions in your page and I passed the test, how can I have a proof of study with you, it's for my insurance, thanks !!
Here is the way it is worded in the DMV Handbook:
*Do not go under lowering gates or around lowered gates. Flashing red warning lights indicate you must stop and wait. Do not proceed over the railroad tracks until the red lights stop flashing, even if the gate rises. If the gates are lowered and you do not see a train approaching, call the posted railroad emergency toll-free number or 9-1-1. Be ready to give a detailed description of your location.*

❤ wonderful
Thank you!
hi, how long do we have to answer every question? and if I finished and I failed and I started again it counts as the second one? same day? thanks
(im confused because I had 2 differents test I don't know why) dmv: Hollywood, CA
Best of luck to you!

where can i read the california handbook?
Hello! You can read the CA DMV Handbook online here: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/
They have many language options available.
The also have it available as a PDF here, it looks more like the paperback version and I like it a bit more: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/file/california-driver-handbook-pdf/
Hope that helps!
I take my test in 12 days super nervous😬
You can do it! Make sure you read the handbook too, a few times if you can - that will help more than you think. Best of luck to you!!
Is this for new jersey?
Hello there!! These questions are from CA tests, but most of the info applies to all states. We've had several comments from other state test takers who did well on their test using these videos. However, please be sure to read your state's DMV handbook for the most accurate info - especially in regards to alcohol and drug rules and teen driving laws/restrictions. Take care!
Do you have the questions for class C renewal test
Hello!! This test and our other tests will help prepare you for the class C renewal test. If you are renewing your license, you can ignore the questions about teen driving rules for provisional licenses (first time drivers) - but 99% of these questions apply to ALL class C licensed drivers.
