This guy changed my life.
I was 18 years old and ready to go on college to become a math teacher. To this day i played a lot of rock music and i never was interested in acoustic guitar. Then i found Tommy and learned Lewis & Clark (after two month of practice) and was hocked. I'm 30 now and in the past years i just played fingerstyle and now im teaching in my local musicschool without any diploma. I played on a lot of different stages.
My parents told me to study and work a normal job. But now i make a living from it. I don't chase money but i chase the right things to do that makes me happy!
You can do it too, if you work hard on your craft.. what ever it is!

Have never seen him in person but have. followed him since watching his performance on our TV in Portland. He’s not there often either but he is on You Tube. Saw him live in Tokyo in 2019. Hands down one of the best musicians and entertainers I have ever seen. The show was non stop for 2 hours….just him and a guitar. The show was unbelievable. He helped me to understand what was missing from my own musicianship.
I was missing expressing my feelings and emotions through my instrument. He was just speaking honestly through the guitar. Amazing guy.

I remember Tommy playing drums in a 3 piece at the pacific hotel with his brother Phil and a bass player. Fantastic on any instrument. Great guys. They would have a beer with you in their breaks. Got to know his brother Phil later through a mate of mine. Legendary humble musicians with so much respect.
The hope is that someone hears Tommy playing wants to play guitar too

Molti lo considerano un virtuoso della chitarra, ma Tommy Emmanuel è molto di più. È un narratore, un poeta, un visionario della musica. Ogni volta che si esibisce, riesce a trasportare il pubblico in un'altra dimensione, in cui i confini tra musicista e ascoltatore si dissolvono.Un gigante assoluto della guitar acoustic.
Tommy, is the best guitarist in his field ever!!! He will say Chet Atkins is the best but it is him, he took it to the next level, and he seems so genuine in interviews etc. I so want just 5 minutes to talk to him if he comes to the UK and I can afford to get to that concert, ohh just dreams,,,,,

Tommy has a tour in UK in Januar 2024 so there is your chance. He is very frendly and you can easy get 5 min with him. That day when is show, come early enough because he have soundcheck before show, and you have big chance to catch him. We did it, couple times 😉
@@Njihdvoje Great will look out for the UK show and try to be there, I have played electric guitar for 30 years and never even looked at acoustic until I heard him 4 years ago, since then bought a Simon and Patrick folk songsmith and spend my time between acoustic and electric :)
Sad to say but Tommy is upgraded version of Chet atkins.
@@benjoshd3386 It's not sad to say. They were great friends and Chet also said Tommy was a great guitarist, Chet very rarely said that, so an endorsement as far as I am concerned. Tommy did what Chet could do, maybe not as well but also adapted on it and is just awesome, the same as Angus Young or Keith Richards or Slash have learnt by emulating the players from the past that they like and mixing it up a little ;)

I have always known he never learnt to read music nor did he bother to play scales. Whenever he plays any song, he is playing scales.
His style of playing is the best. It is a flowing part of his being.
He is such a great bloke to share with us all, his joy of music.

I couldn’t understand how he got the marks on his guitar till he got to the percussive bit. Fantastic. Totally agree with the comments on hearing the music and playing songs he likes. So many people must have been discouraged by being taught music theory and scales etc. Find a song you like and learn how to play it.

i second that. My wife and i have seen him 3 times and a statement he made has always stuck with me because its so true, he said "I work hard for yall and sacrifice alot because when i play something good happens to you!" Like i said how true that is, when you leave one of his shows the only thing you can say is that something good has happened to me.

We are always learning brother. I’ve been playing since I was 6 and I’m now 33. Still got so much further to go! I’m like Tommy, never been taught or bothered to learn to read music. My playing is quite similar to his. He’s my hero!
