    Thirsk AC has risen from the ashes? Who'd have thunk it?
    I used to fish that stretch back in the olden days.
    I even got offered a blowie from one of the local slappers hanging around in said play park, which I nievly turned down by the way. A decision that I deeply regret to this day.
    Let's hope Thirsk AC can get/ keep that stretch of Swale on the crake hill bank, opposite cundal lodge. That stretch was epic.
    Keep up the good work fellows even though seeing my old haunts "ont tinternet" slightly detracts from the magic I'm not complaining. Let's hope Thirsk AC goes from strength to strength.

      Bulmers of York. Blimey that place used to hold some wonderment. I used to wander around there looking at all the cool stuff that I couldn't afford. Then it was round the corner to the model shop to look at all the airfix kits, paddle round to anglers corner for half a pint of mixed and go chasing roach and perch on the Foss.

      The trusty 505. Back in my "trotting" days I had several closed face reels, the black 501, red 505 and silver 506 but sold them when I switched to canal fishing although I kept the Ryobi CF1 for waggler fishing as it has a slightly bigger spool . Brilliant reels that can cost mega bucks these days.

    No small river or stream here for me unfortunately, just the muddy, big tides bottom end of the Hull. Can't recall seeing anyone fishing it much below Beverley Beck in my time. Only fished it around Tickton myself, and not for about 15 years now.

    I dont understand this feeding and casting downstream my father who was one of the great river match anglers in the 60s and 70s taught us to feed upstream and cast directly in front of our peg he said you want to draw the fish up so that as soon as your hookbait was near the bottom the fish were closer and you would keep the fish in your swim by feeding upstream not have them fall back into the next anglers swim

    • @cadencefishinguk
      @cadencefishinguk  2 роки тому

      Much depends on the pace, depth, any slack water, and the general nature of a swim. In Paul's case in this video, the fish were mostly to be found further down, hence the appropriate advice. Your dad would behave been correct on a deeper river I would agree

    • @paulkozyra4467
      @paulkozyra4467 2 роки тому

      Now I know that’s completely wrong where Dace and Chub are the target as they will sit directly under where your feed hits the water (well Yorkshire fish do) no mater how deep the water is.

    • @davetaylor8858
      @davetaylor8858 2 роки тому

      I used to fish the River Trent and Newark Dyke regularly and always fed as far upstream as I could, specially in matches where distance was close to keep the bait out of the Guy downstream's swim. Something that's helped me loose feeding by hand on my local canal.

  • @margysan
    @margysan 2 роки тому +2

    Also we had wire stem stick floats in the 80s in fact i have many of them from back in the day lol so nothing new sorry i dont mean to sound adversary but the advice on casting and how you are feeding is just wrong .

      It’s how I cast but as always we keep on learning so it would be great to know how to cast a stick float properly and would be grateful to hear how that’s done, looking forward to hearing from you👍
      Paul

    • @davetaylor8858
      @davetaylor8858 2 роки тому

      I agree Adrian, specially in matches where you didn't have the luxury of long pegs unless you were lucky and had a spare peg downstream. We were taught to feed as far upstream as you could throw with your "spare" hand to keep your bait in your own swim and not the next Guy downstream,

    • @richardburns5925
      @richardburns5925 11 місяців тому

      Can you tell me how to do it properly then dude, because for the last 30 years I've been doing it wrong. I always cast and feed downstream when fishing like this, never in front or upstream. Always looking to learn though, always something new, hope to hear back from you 👍
