It bothers me that they’re calling it a “double life” when she’s clearly been boasting about abusing her kids for years. Her entire account is encouraging other parents to also abuse their kids and saying it’s in the name of “love.” It’s not a double life, it’s been in everyone’s faces this whole time. He actually said, “He’s been t… detained.” I have wondered if what was on the tip of his tongue “tied up” or “tortured”. But I think he chose “detained” because the child was within earshot. He was trying to not upset the boy - but I think also he was being mindful that this would finally be a court case. He was choosing neutral and less emotive words so that nobody could say he was “leading” or influencing any testimony by the lad. With Jodie’s assistance he was removed from his own home why on earth did he believe anything that Jodie had planned would not be harmful to his children when, in fact, she had done nothing, but cause harm to his family. Kevin might’ve closed his eyes, but the rest of the world was watching. They cared more about his children then he did…

As a child abused by my mother, its astounding how well a parent can mnipulate others. My father never knew how badly I was abused, and I never knew my mother wasn't telling my dad anything. The entire community believed my mom was a good and kind hearted woman, and still do to this day. She had me believing things were normal that absolutely were not normal. I have a misshapen head from her "smacking me upside the head" whenever I angered her, I was medically neglected to the point that my elementary school had independently gotten me diagnosed with a speech impediment, adhd, and a learning disability, and she managed to hide it from everyone including myself until I was in my mid 20's. I later got diagnosed with autism, pcos, endometriosis, manic-hyperdepressive bi-polar disorder, CPTSD, and severe social anxiety. All things that she had me convinced were solely moral failings on my part.
It's horrifying to think about, but stories like mine are so common that I was regularly brushed off as being oversensitive when I sought help in the mid 2000's. Sensationalizing these stories must be awful for the victim of the story, but also validating for them to know that what happened to them was wrong. I hope that people learn to see abuse more through seeing people react to this kind of horror, and that the suffering these kids will have for the rest of their lives might at least save other children from similar fates.
My heart bleeds for these children.

No one would have ever known that things were hell on earth because we were either kept at home, clothes hid the signs, and were threatened not to say anything. You name it, it happened. Limited to no food, humiliation and ostracizing, no talking, wearing the same clothes all the time, siblings were told not to interact with you, physical abuse, etc. It reached every part of my life and even in adulthood, the repercussions still follow me like a shadow. My heart really goes out to the children. They will never be the same.

The Mothers narcism was much greater than the love of her children. The odd part if it all is that she will never come to terms with it. A complete breach from reality. So much loss and so much hurt. I pray these children know that love is not conditional and they can one day experience that unconditionally without fear.

Thank you for calling her by her appropriate pronouns. I think it’s ridiculous to ask everyone to change the way they address you when you are very clearly a female. The reporter even slipped up once and probably caught hell for it. SMH.

It blows my mind because I was in third grade when I started watching 8passengers and I’m about to graduate soon. I was a child and thought her parenting was never bad. Obviously now that I’m an adult I am looking back at her videos and every video there is a flaw. It’s crazy that I was once a child watching this family grow and now I’m adult watching their family tear apart and their own mother go to jail.

Jessie gave a long form interview about her life on the Mormon Stories Poscast. Her mom and dad planned it without telling her. They travelled from CA to UT to visit family, and her parents left in the middle of the night. When she woke she was told that she would now be under Jodi’s care. Her story is definitely worth a listen, it’s heartbreaking and I’m glad she’s finally getting some vindication. We’ll see if her parents finally start to acknowledge the abuse that happened.
