  • Hi! I'm Rose and I'm from California.
In my last video, ( • My Life in Oita on the... ) I talked about my life in Oita Prefecture, Japan as an ALT on the JET Program.
Today's video is all about my life after JET; how I met my husband, what kind of jobs I've had, and where it has all led me.
    A bit about my journey:
2013 - Graduated college and moved to Oita, Japan through the JET Program
2016 - Finished my time on JET, moved to Tokyo and worked at "Eikaiwa" (English Conversational Schools)
2019 - Got married to my Japanese husband
2021 - Moved to Aomori Prefecture, where my husband is from
I am still new to UA-cam, so I really appreciate all the support! Likes, comments, subscriptions, I see them all and I feel greatly encouraged by all of you. Thank you for watching❤️

From Oita to Tokyo to Aomori, that's a big weather difference.

After finishing the JET programe, what else can you do without having TESOL or other teaching degrees?

There are a lot of jobs available, some teaching related, others not. I have worked at some "eikaiwa" type schools run by private companies, and now I work for a Japanese company doing translation/product development/etc. If you have a high level of Japanese, that will open many more doors.

I’m currently in JET and considering to stay longer term. However, I don’t have a teaching degree..if it’s okay, I wanted to ask - did you do those kids eikaiwas and kindergarten teachings without a teaching degree? Thank you for your time

Hi! I don’t have a teaching degree either, but I have not found any trouble in getting teaching jobs in Japan. I have a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, but honestly I don’t think most employers even look at what I majored in in college. Just having teaching experience in JET is more than enough to get an eikaiwa job. 😊

Oh man. I would *not* want to take the rush hour train all the way from Fujisawa to (I'm assuming) Shinjuku daily. The Odakyu Line's right up there with the Chuo Line in terms of nightmare commutes. Reminds of me of some not too pleasant memories. 😅 Glad you're past all that now!

Me too! It was truly awful. The way back home was the worst! Rush “hour” started in the early evening and didn’t let up until late at night. There was no way to avoid it. Soooo glad I don’t have to do that anymore 🥲
