What a way to celebrate the legend of Johnny Cash, so glad Rick R. and Johnny put aside whatever doubts they had to make those great albums. Hard to think of any other music legend that had such a memorable finish to their career and life.
Rick R transcends space and time and can apply his process to literally anything. I'd bring him in for something completely unrelated and not even music related and I'd feel like you'd come out of it a better person.
I just listened to Cash's version of Nick Cave's the Mercy Seat from the Solitary Man album. It 100% reads as a Johnny Cash song, like it could be a sequel to Folsom Prison Blues; his voice is perfect for the material and the story-song plays out with a dramatic arc like a film.
I first heard that Rusty Cage version on an episode of CSI, believe it or not, and I just had to track it down. I might have been late to the party, but I'm glad I got there!
the beauty in the resurgence or The Man In Black was iconic. much like his original career. hell, I'd pose to say it brought a new generation to the doorstep and helped Walk the Line. as it stands the film released during my sophomore year of high school and I was sweet on a girl who introduced me to it. so hence why the film has a strong memory 🫡 but I fell in love with the music and learned to play it as I was teaching myself guitar at the time as well after having just learning bass guitar the previous winter after getting one for my birthday in the fall. well. she's long gone and I'm still playing music. Cash, Hendrix, Van Halen, Mansoor, etc and idgaf what genre in between. I taught myself drums annoying the drum folks at guitar center daily as I couldn't afford my own set or just wouldn't buy one lol The raw ambition and want in his music is what makes it so unique and driving.
Yes his Rusty Cage rendition is great but nearly all the tracks on The Man Comes Around are brilliant covering beautiful songs from the Beatles, Paul Simon and Sting not to mention Nine Inch Nails!
I have listened to American IV countless times.. Johnny has the best voice ever imo. What Rick did for him should never be forgotten by fans like myself.. and it never will be. Tremendous start to finish 👍
The digital clipping he describes at the peak of “Hurt” I think is horrible. Not allowing that emotional peak to be reproduced naturally is a distraction. Completely unnatural. He has produced so much good music, but I have been terribly frustrated for years with his clipping and compressing the life out of the music. Such a waste.
For me, this interview is by far the less interesting that Rick made. I thought Rick Rubin would be a very interesting guy, but to me he's not at all. Boring.
Rubin’s work with Cash is brilliant!
I'm so glad that Mr. Rubin had the foresight to lure Mr. Cash out of retirement, and that the two of them came up with some very unique recordings.
My favorite song of the Rick Rubin albums is When the Man Comes Around. Talk about powerful lyrics.
It was my wake up song for quite some time, a total masterpiece
That's the one with transgender chickens.... so funny!
That's the one with trans birds. So funny!
Wow... just wow... this 8+ has me in tears! Looking forward to the full interview!!! ❤
There's a link to the original interview in the description
Rubin gave Cash a chance at a late career renaissance that very few recording artists have ever enjoyed.
Jack White did that with Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn.
Johnny Cash, Rick Rubin and Rick Beato a perfect trifecta.
I used to listen to Hurt and rage right along with Trent. I listen to Cash’s Hurt and feel it even more deeply.
Hurt is an amazing song

I'm going to go listen.
The white backdrops look great. The mic audio
Is wonderful.
I saw Johnny Cash live in the 80s when i was a kid. God I wish I could remember more.
The Rick's are two of music's great facilitators.🎶🎵

I saw Johnny do “Rusty Cage” live in a parking lot at the grand opening of an outlet mall in Newton, Kansas in 1996.
This is amazing. I remember when that song came out... I was so awe struck.

Those American recordings are my favorite. Thank you Ricks!!!
Great collection of American CASH albums. Glad he recorded these during his remaining years on Earth.
Hey Rick, I’m subscribed. The Johnny Cash albums with Rick Rubin are amazing. Just as Loretta Lynn’s album with Jack White - Van Leer Rose.
This is Rick Beato...the White Interview
I first heard that Rusty Cage version on an episode of CSI, believe it or not, and I just had to track it down. I might have been late to the party, but I'm glad I got there!
Johnny as an old story teller in front of a mike will be great for ev errr

One of the great Cash originals on those records is When The Man Comes Around….great arrangement and version.
All of those songs became Johnny’s songs.
FACT...Trent R even said as much... The JC Nashville museum tour is enlightening... ♥️all things music ♥️
his actual voice sounds like it has digital
clipping. explains a lot.
Merci beaucoup
Beato obviously caught Rubin when he was doing a bit of decorating.
Great video

by coincidence was browsing through tge 5cd box last week with the book 2003 american records giving nephew for xmas
He never talks about setting Genesis P. Orridge on fire in his house.
I didn't believe in Santa Claus until I saw this video.
Milestone Interview
Are you painting the studio?
I wish the whole beastie boys saga didn't complicate my feeling about rick.
If I saw Rick Rubin walking down the street, I'd probably hand him a couple of bucks.😁
wow
👍🏻🎄✌🏼
Bare Feet and a jar of something... Rick on Rick Action.
🤘
Is he God? Third!
Don't you take the sheets off the furniture when you interview someone in the basement?
How does he eat spaghetti with that beard?

Rick Rubin talking about how he gently pushed Chris Cornell up Johnny Cash' butt!
