What's amazing is that he has such a command of the fretboard that he can pull off anything that you ask of him just to show you how it won't work as good.
Rick I just can’t thank you enough for being the music historian you have become, even if initially ruse was not your goal, you are contributing to the preservation of music. I just finished watching Recording with Steely Dan in their own words and being a Steely Stan as I am, I am thrilled to see you interviewing the likes of Larry Carlton and STEVE GADD and yours Michael McDonald interview…. Wow just thank you so much
He's playing it in slower tempo here . I think Harrison played it at a tempo that wouldn't make the song sound incorrectly at the pace they were moving it through.
Agree. I can fly around the fretboard to a degree and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's overrated and given too much credit by those who don't understand much about playing guitar. Jeff Beck did things subtly that many can't grasp. This player is demonstrating a deeper sophistication here. I wish I had the depth of chord knowledge and music theory overall that Rick and many of his guests have. I'm working at it.
Nathaniel is one of the most down to earth people I've seen. And he's just living in an apartment, going to his job at the guitar store, selling guitars, and playing guitar demos on the guitar yt channel. Meanwhile he's mind blowing on the instrument
Talent for days with that guy! Thanks for the video, Rick. This is my introduction to Nathaniel Murphy, and now I have to go find his channel and music.
He nailed it! Piano approach to the guitar! The legato combined with voice leading over the chordal accompaniment is the secret that makes the difference! Beautiful!
Lately I've been paying attention to pick up height and I've realized for that sort of low volume smooth sound like he's demonstrating with the lp if you look at the pickups they are flush with the pickup frames. I adjusted my guitar that way and it really made a nice smooth sounding tone.
Hi Rick, I’d love to see some classical guitar composers/ performers on your channel , to hear how they write stuff… so much of the great compositions/ arrangements by the great composers always leagues beyond my comprehension in terms of how they came up with it. Thanks
04:39 Hey, don't knock Roland Street Cubes. I've had mine for years and love it. I too play Solo (chord melody) guitar at home, and it does a fantastic job. If I want to go to the park down the street and play a bit, the 8 AA battery pack does the trick. I use rechargeables and a charge will last for hours. Still priced at only about $550, they are a bargain. I've never had a lick of trouble. I recently installed a Go Acoustic pickup system (with individual transducers on each string) on my nylon string guitar and it sounds incredible played through my Street Cube. The guitar played through the Roland sounds like the unamplified tone... but just louder. Great! ✊👍✌
Sounds great :) I also remember buying Göran Söllschers album where he arranged Beatles songs for the classical guitar, give that a listen too if you want more Beatles on guitar!
I think Rick could have an entire second interview with Al Di Meola dedicated to approaching covering Beatles songs. He released an entire album of them and then some.
@@bjornopitz6561similar experience, honestly Dawes is incredible. Nathaniel has such ease, is fundamentally so strong - he and Greg Koch - nothing is out of reach for them. They seem to have a direct connection to the instrument and music itself! Dawes is in that league, for certain. The idea of “best” is stupid.
For In My Life I put a capo on the second fret and voilá! I play that song in G, it´s not that dificult, except for the George Martin baroque clavinet solo. I dpn´t use behind the nut bendings, tapping or any "tricks". But I Saw Her Standing There played this way is REALLY technically chalenging. Tommy Emmanuel does that kind of stuff in a great way too.
I always like to consider myself a pretty darn good guitarist. And then I hear someone like Nathaniel Murphy and I feel like I just first picked up a guitar yesterday.
PRACTICE . He didn't wake up playing like that . I've been " practicing" drums for 60 years . And I'm still learning and evolving . Best Wishes to you . And , if you say you can't, you're right .
I remember Bill Frissell releasing an album of John Lennon's songs (some Beatles, some solo Lennon). They were not solo guitar, but were obviously guitar centric. Bill stated at the time that Lennon's songs proved to be far from straightforward to play on guitar.
Nathaniel Murphy is an amazing player. If anybody doubts that just watch those clips of Noel Gallagher's face melting when he listens to Nathaniel play.
Okay, playing "I Saw Her Standing There" like that was simply amazing.
You said it.
my jaw hit the floor
In My Life is one beautiful song. And this arrangement is exquisite.
He missed 2 chords... 2 amazing chords...
the B Maj and a D minor at the end.
that's not exquisite
In an interview, Lennon said he wrote the song to see if he could still write a beautiful melody. His career was always filled with self doubt.
What's amazing is that he has such a command of the fretboard that he can pull off anything that you ask of him just to show you how it won't work as good.
😂✌🏼
I could listen to Nathaniel's playing forever - and he's so down to earth describing how he achieves something so beautiful.
An absolute genius - such imaginative, skillful and original arrangements.
Wow, that bassline and clear melody in I Saw Her Standing There.
Always loved that song
As a piano player, I’m blown away that he can do that on guitar.
Except for those licks near the end that have nothing to do with the song.
I saw her standing there… what a killer version!!!
His technique is amazing. Thank you for the video.
Nathaniel does an incredible job playing In My Life and especially I Saw Her Standing There. Thank you for the video Rick.

Excellent arrangement.. The Beatles songbook is a treasure-house for limitless inspiration...
What he's doing is a lot harder then shredding
Exactly !! Can't stand those damn speed lead guitarists
Depends on the level of shredding... We're in an infinite universe, apparently.
He's playing it in slower tempo here . I think Harrison played it at a tempo that wouldn't make the song sound incorrectly at the pace they were moving it through.

Much more enjoyable to listen to also
This gentleman its a musician. Excellent

so glad we got to see this. absolutely amazing. he plays all the parts on his one axe !!
In my life played at my Papas funeral never listened to it fully since, it really is amazing how music can give such an emotional response.
Talent for days with that guy! Thanks for the video, Rick. This is my introduction to Nathaniel Murphy, and now I have to go find his channel and music.
Just love how this guy plays! And Rick´s work is beyond words. Thanks a lot to both of them.
The dude has great ideas, very innovative.
Robert Smith is also rocking the Roland Cubes. He blocks out the bottom of the B so they look like CURE
What incredible playing. Enjoyed this so much.
First time I heard Nates recent Beatles medley........I was floored. Still am!!!!
Met this guy once, can confirm he’s a super nice and down to earth dude
Wow. So glad u had him on. Great great great
Wow... "the boy can play!" ... Wonderful, I was literally bopping to the rhythm
Dedication. And devotion.
He nailed it! Piano approach to the guitar! The legato combined with voice leading over the chordal accompaniment is the secret that makes the difference! Beautiful!

Another amazing artist discovery thanks to Rick. What a pleasant listen, thank you.
Great player and seems like a very cool guy. Off to listen to more of his work. Love the video.
Just incredible
Nathaniel Murphy should be at the top today. He is in my book. Just fantastic in all ways.
Nathaniel is a heck of a pro. CME is lucky to have him.
I love the high powered Tweed Twin. I think that any neighbor should feel extremely blessed to have Nathaniel living next door to them.
for me the ' I saw her standing there' rock n roll song is one of the most iconic songs ever made its a proper 60's tune.
Yeah! I used to a lot of this too for my solo resto gig….figuring fingering is the best part
So Cool Very talented guy. I saw her standing there Amazing
Just check out Kazuhito Yamashita's album "Hey Jude - Yesterday".
What skill. It sounds great!
Beautiful, makes it look so easy!!
This guy is unreal! I follow him on Instagram and he blows my mind every time.
Have you had Laurence Juber on as a guest? His solo guitar work is off the charts… especially his Beatles renditions.
Came here to say the same thing. Plus I've met him and he's a great down to earth guy.
This guy is insane good! Holy cow!

In My Life is arguably one of the most underrated songs. It’s gloriously melodic and meaningful. Beautifully played here
It was once named by some major critics survey back in the '80s to the top song of the rock era.
Roland Cube was a great amp
Amazing arrangement!
Nathaniel Murphy + Beatles = 👍👍👍👍👍
Sounds great :) I also remember buying Göran Söllschers album where he arranged Beatles songs for the classical guitar, give that a listen too if you want more Beatles on guitar!
He's just great😊
Really great arrangements!
I think Rick could have an entire second interview with Al Di Meola dedicated to approaching covering Beatles songs. He released an entire album of them and then some.
Been a fan of Nathaniel for years, he crushes it.
Lovely guy & amazing talent
Very impressive. The Nathaniel sure has done his level best to arrange this music. The mind boggles at the hours spent.
Is there a full version of this interview? :) This was amazing
First time I hear him, terrific
Nicely done.
At 6:00 I smiled at how nice he did that.
Masterful! That dude is awesome wow
This guy is the most 'wow' guitarist I have seen on your channel
Sounds like you haven't seen Mike Dawes ;-)
@@bjornopitz6561similar experience, honestly Dawes is incredible. Nathaniel has such ease, is fundamentally so strong - he and Greg Koch - nothing is out of reach for them. The Dawes guy has a smoothness and feel to his playing that is simply otherworldly
That’s some next level playing there folks!

You don't need "tricks" if it's a good song.
Parts of “I Saw Her Standing There” reminds me of Chet Atkins’ playing.
great playing!
I’m already subscribed Rick.
Good stuff, serious chops.
Incredible skills!
Does he have a collection of his Beatles covers anywhere? He's outstanding.
It's as if Murphy had two brains and three hands. Breathless!
Incredible!
Rick , I don't know if you have seen the new UA-cam about Boston and Tom Scholz....well it's time for the interview....lets go !
Find yourself someone who looks at you the way Rick looks at Nate.
woowee! Nat's got a bag of tricks bigger than Santa Claus:) hat's off to a great player
Excellent ... love it
I always like to consider myself a pretty darn good guitarist. And then I hear someone like Nathaniel Murphy and I feel like I just first picked up a guitar yesterday.
Holy cow! A master!!!
Extraordinary
i give up! he's great. i could never...

This guy seems cool. Like his interpretations
Check out "Michelle" played live by Pedro Aznar. It's one of the most incredible beatle solo renditions i've seen
Wow. Thank you amazing.
Just ridiculously good
WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO MY EARS??? Y'all probably already know. I don't... Pardon my ignorance... but this guy!!!
I wish you'd interview Lawrence Juber. He reminds me of him..
Well great, this puts my campfire playing back in kindergarten
Toru Takemitsu, Goran Sollscher and Emil Ernebro. All three have great Beatles arrangements.
"guitar is cooler than piano" Yesssssss
Cool. Is there an hour long interview with nat?
Very nice! ❤
and he missed the D Maj to
D Minor at the end...
harmony is more important than showing off.
my opinion.
How this guy is not playing for major act is beyond me. Nathaniel M is one of my favorite players these days.
I saw her standing there,is epic!
Nathaniel Murphy is an amazing player. If anybody doubts that just watch those clips of Noel Gallagher's face melting when he listens to Nathaniel play.
Holy shit. Yes.
5:40 I Saw Her Standing There -- wow
Love Mr. Murphy playing "Songs" on the guitar, Chet Atkins was the GOAT at this, and anyone was on his list even Roger Miller tunes.,
Too wonderful. Why even say how wonderful…… just watch 🥰
Wow!
Great player! But please don't forget Tuck Andress' rendition of 'In my life'.
