      Now you know why Ian has such a a following, not just in the States, but around the world. He has searched out some of the rarest, most obscure guns around the world to record for his own interest and for posterity. His ability to convey in simple terms how some amazing complex actions function is second to none.

    I worked a summer camp where the range master used to be a Marine competition shooter and he had one of these (along with a half dozen other antique target weapons). It's not doing anything fancy, but everything about it was very nice. The trigger is nice and crisp like you'd want, the sights are nice and easily useable, and it just had a good feel in the hand. There were others more exciting, but honestly this little thing did a lot to teach me how to shoot properly.
    Edit: Grammar

    FYI, the benefit of an aperture sight is that the pinhole removes odd angles of light, meaning all the light that does go through the hole is already in focal angles. In other words, you don't have a clarity disparity between distances, unlike other sights which require you to focus either on the target or the front bead but never both.
    This is the same reason why closing the aperture on a camera removes the depth of focal blur or can even remove the need to focus at all, at the expense of less light (from odd angles) making it to the sensor.

    Did you mean Schützenfest, Ian? The rifle would certainly be fancy enough - but it would need to be in .22lr for that. With .32 the show is over too quickly - and the one who wins has to pay for all the beer, you know. :)

    • @petebeatminister
      @petebeatminister 3 роки тому +2

      @@filster1934 - A Schützenfest has nothing to do with a target shooting competition. Its a purely traditional thing, in which a group of volunteers shoots whith the same rifle, which is fixed on a tripod for safety, at a wooden eagle on a high pole. And the one who brings the eagle to fall down is declared the "Schützenkönig" - the Shooter King - and has to pay for the after party. Which is often a 5 figure bill, so not everybody is eager to win the title. Its a prestige thing among the business men in town and such people, who are members in a Schützen Verein - a shooters guild - which date back in the early 19th century or even earlier.
      So it has nothing to do with actual target shooting. Believe me, I am German. :)

    I was busy drooling so I may have missed the part about an auction. Is this coming up?
    One big question I have is this: How does the bore look? The ammo back then was Mercuric/Corrosive, sooo...
    The firearm looks to be in excellent shape, hopefully the Old Hands that owned it knew how to clean and take care of it.
    This is one of my dream guns.
