I wondered if someone would call out the stupidity of the "New York to Brooklyn" title...in my defense, Greyhound calls it that, I'm just the messenger! Thank you!
My theory is that Greyhound has buses that depart from Brooklyn, this is one way to get a bus to deadhead from the Port Authority to Brooklyn for the passengers. Why not monetize the deadheading bus?
Yeah, that's what they're doing. But giving it five minutes of layover in Brooklyn is, um, definitely not enough time. I guess it's probably so short because there's nowhere to wait there, since it's just a street stop.
Now of the bus went to JFK airport it might actually be useful, although I can't imagine tons of passengers taking greyhound before their long haul flight out of JFK
Oof, seriously! I always wonder what the deal is with the clearly-not-Port-Authority-workers who interrogate people about what their bus is and offer to take them there. Do they ask for money at the end, I wonder?
Seeing this a whole geological age later, am reminded of a related situation here in the UK from a while back. Higham Tunnel, between Gravesend and Strood, needed to be fixed, so a replacement bus was supplied by the train company. The vehicles were hired from Ensign Bus, near Lakeside shopping centre in Essex - that meant they had to go over the Dartford Crossing to enter service but, rather than get tolled as an empty private user, they were able to avoid tolls by operating a public walk-on service between Lakeside and Bluewater, extending to Strood for the rail replacement - win-win for everyone \m/
Video idea: cheapest way from philly to NYC by rail alone: Patco > River Line > NJ transit > Path Another idea: maximum distance by rail w/o Amtrak: Newark DE to Springfield MA or New London CT by SEPTA > NJT > Metro-North > ConDot You can also expand that to Fredericksburg VA using the MARC SEPTA bus. Keep up the good work!
Yes. If he comes to New London Ct. I hope he’s there July 8 2023 for the fireworks and Sailfest. There’s also water taxis that go to 2 spots in NL and 1 spot in Groton.
I was laughing at this video but now am thinking of logical reasons maybe more routes like this ought to be available: people carrying large items that are very inconvenient for local transit. Anyone who lived a while in Philly knows how far parts of the northeastern section of the city is from Center City. A Greyhound route that links areas like that with the main terminal downtown might actually be useful. Does Greyhound have a similar route for people going to Queens?
I've seen someone carry a glass armoire into the subway station. People do that kind of thing all the time there. The amount of insane things I have seen people move with the subway is just unbelievable. They even have much larger doors to do it with too so it almost makes sense. Those emergency doors are huge, you can bring large stuff through, and the subway doors are large as well.
Dude! You filmed this on my birthday! Really awesome video and it's just hilarious to learn about such a dumb Greyhound trip! BTW, featured on Jalopnik!
haha. i love it. was sort of hoping you'd wait for the bus to get back to the port authority and see if the driver recognized you (and that you were racing him)
Even if you're making a transfer from one Greyhound to another, that line doesn't make sense. Just take the subway. Much faster. I guess if you have a lot of luggage it would make more sense to take Greyhound though.
Grayhound might be useful if you have baggage cause you’re starting or returning from a trip, but if you’re not carrying a suitcase the subway is a better option.
It's not hard to take luggage on the subway, I done it multiple times. Also in Boston I did lots of activities with luggage, from taking the T to the bus to walking through Harvard and Downtown Boston.
@@transitimprover I’m old and weak I’d rather not be weighed down by luggage while riding public transportation. I’d rather drive if I have luggage than even ride a bus that’s meant for long trips, like Greyhound or Peter Pan.
There is a Greyhound route from the Port Authority to Hempstead. And its only $5. However, the schedule isn’t commuter friendly. There’s only one bus in each direction during the afternoon. I’m sure that 99% of Nassau County residents don’t even know that there’s a Greyhound stop In Hempstead. If Greyhound was smart then they’d market this as a much cheaper alternative to the LIRR and buses would run during peak hours.
even if you are transfering... just walk a block or 2 to penn and pay the $2.75 to catch a subway to Brooklyn. and even. if you do need to transfer to an mta bus after the subway... there's free transfers smh
This could be a good deal if you had a lot of bags to move. Should have asked the driver if you could buy a ticket on the spot to go back to Manhattan.
Quite honestly, yes Brooklyn is stupid, but Hempstead not so much. If i lived in Long Island and worked on the West side of Manhattan it really does save you a transfer.
The three people ahead of you could be transferring like you said but also could be traveling to a destination further down the line somewhere on the same trip as you. For instance if three people pay for the 9 am bus from Seattle to Portland and then I purchase a ticket to Tacoma leaving Seattle st 9 am I'm boarding position 4 even though I'm the first getting off at tacoma.
A & C trains 42nd Street to Brooklyn beats this bus. Also Greyhound will win in this area Easton Pennsylvania to New York although it's less frequent than the competition IBG Group Trans bridge lines which operates it up to late night
My favorite part is that the NYC to Brooklyn Greyhound is slower and more expensive than a Citi Bike
Miles: “Let’s see how cheaply we can get from NYC to Montauk!”
Also Miles: “Let’s spend $16 to go from Manhattan to Brooklyn.”
I love this channel!
I love Montauk.
The key point we're missing here is that the extra $13 gives you almost exclusive access to that bus toilet. Luxury!
Correction: a $16 ticket from New York to New York :)
Keep up what you’re doing-we love it!

Now make a vidoe showing how complicated is is to find where your bus actually is in Port Authority

😂😂😂😂 omg I can’t this one way to avoid craziness people on subway I guess 😂

Thanks for the ideas! One of these days I gotta try Philly to Boston using only local transit (sorta similar to your second idea).

I wish we had more Brooklyn service that went somewhere to avoid needing to go into Manhattan.
Since COVID I don't think Greyhound goes there at all...
I didn’t even know Greyhound had a stop in. Brooklyn.
I think it fell victim to COVID, unfortunately...I don't see it on the website anymore.
This is hilarious and I love it. Thanks for the efforts!

You actually got the pronunciation of Schermerhorn correct!
nice to hear laughter on the subway, its usually dead

I can not wait to Take Greyhound Bc I from White Plains NY But am gong take greyhound from New York to white Plains is like 50 Minutes ride
Chinatown shuttle bus will cost much less and arrive on time

That trip only runs once a day though! You can't actually commute with it.
400 wing at the beginning?
What is greyhound 's address in Chinatown, Manhattan new York city?

The entire trip was New York to Brooklyn! There were no further places on the bus anyone could go.

The equivalent subway trip would have been over before the bus even picked him up, since it was a half hour late to begin with.
😲✌🏾
Why do they run this lmao
Honestly I'd rather just take the A train from Port Authority or something
