Not being an asshole but we gotta add greatest song writer as well , I’m so lucky to have seen him as many times as I did, the first time I saw him was in 83 I believe, I was thirteen and he played on the basketball court at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa and I’ll never forget how god damn amazing that performance was and Howie Epstein made the biggest impression on me, from the way he was dressed to his energy and backup lyrics, he’s my favorite bass player well if I’m being honest everything about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are my favorite. Happy Fourth of July to everybody watching this recording I forget how good a band Tom Petty‘s band was playing all strip down very a little look electric grade vocals great songs right on the money miss you a lot. Tom. Too bad. The music business is so terrible today so pick up your guitars. We’re not to play keyboards, single little right a lot it means so much
Everyone who knew him said how nice and down to earth he was and he seems so ; like he'd make a best friend,as well as looking as a fair Angel.I grew up 200 miles south of him but of course never met him- I'd have married him ! Yeah - his 2nd Wife was out on a dinner with his manager while he was dying alone .If she had her feet in the house, he'd probably be alive .then, after they revived him ( well, his heart) she yanks him off of life support .Then she had his dog put to sleep, ,then fought with his Daughters over the will money, ninety five million dollars, each willed a third - I'd of just been happy with 32 million ! Oh- Tom once said if he died, his fans should contribute to the American Red. Cross. Hurricàne relief Poor guy thought she loved him, well he loved her. So, on her birthday, she's saying we all should give to Planned Parenthood - fahqued her !
Yeah I was just thinking about that myself. But you gotta admit that Steve just drives the band like a bat out of hell. It's amazing how even a small difference in style can really ramp the intensity of a song.
I think Stan always felt bad being left out of full moon fever album and never was the same after that and it was only matter of time when he would quit.
This was Stan's last gig with them. He and Tom were simply not agreeing on things. Stan didn't like the material lately. Tom was hurt by this. They were all walking on eggshells at this point. Very professional gig, considering the state they were in.
I don’t think Petty was “hurt”…u think his attitude was…it’s MY band and you don’t like my mellow stuff..there’s the door..and they were never as good after Stan left..
After watching the documentary out in theaters I’ve come to watch the last original member Heartbreaker gig Keeping an eye on the drummer no less It’s as if he is just pretending to play kicking his snare once in a blue moon Talk about not knowing who butters your bread
Just a thought, I always wonder why tom petty never wore a wedding ring the whole time he was married to Jane his first wife, but he wore one when he married his second wife Dana York 🤔?????
Interestingly, TP said in the authorized biography 'Petty' by Warren Zanes that this show was "the only time I was embarrassed by the band. We sounded like sh*t". Far be it from me to ever disagree with TP, but I don't hear that here. Sound as amazing as they always did. Either way, I miss the hell out of him.
It's amazing when you listen to this in relation to the drummer ... this is excellent of course. But Steve just drives the band like a bat out of hell. You do have to admit to that.
@@BeMused79 Agreed. Steve Ferrone is great, but Stan was a better fit for the Heartbreakers. Great backing vocalist too. This was his final performance as a Heartbreaker.
I don't get why they made these Bridgeschool benefit concerts "acoustic". I like how Mike kind said screw it and found a way around that detail which sounded great.
Same reason that Steve was using brushes most of the show. It was a benefit for autistic children who don't like loud piercing noises. And it's a cool concept I think. Saw a GnR show in Edmonton once all acoustic and it was super cool
