Drum Kit Tour Rig Breakdown
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 тра 2017
- This is a realtime breakdown of Rich Redmond's 2017 touring rig with Jason Aldean. There is some commentary for what is going on, but the audio is available so you can hear my interactions with the stagehands as they are instructed to help pack up the drumset.
So many times I've been a stage hand and had to deal with arrogant arsehole drum techs, nice to see you're one of the nice guys! You showed respect to the stage hands and made them feel comfortable, great communication as well! Props to you dude! 🤘🏼
Dan Fudge thanks dude! Being kind and respectful just makes everything so much easier👍🏻
@@91jonhull yup nice to see, and as you should be kind to them , they are there working just as you are and making your life alot easier , it's nice to see respectful interaction ! Everyone is equal and important...the drummer has it easy !
I love this interaction as i have a few friends that work for a backline and local stagehands and theyve told me how many times drum techs are jerks as a way to protect the drum kit they set up and break down. Its quite sad really...
It's great to see you work your magic. Organized, efficient and best of all, "kind" to the support staff. I would hope many drummers/techs will get to see this video for a glimpse of how to do it "right".
Magic? If you call this magic I'd like to know what you call a lineman climbing a telephone pole in zero visibility and about 12 below.
@@TempoDrift1480 Apples and oranges in my book. I was commenting on John's performance as a drum tech, his chosen profession. If your profession is a lineman, my thanks and agreement that your defined situation is not easy at all. Besides being a drummer, I am an RN, so I know the "hardships" of a given profession.
Professional, organized and friendly - very cool! Thanks for posting
Loving this dude! Never realized you have people you never met help y'all on tour as well. Awesome !
Wow! Like a well-oiled machine! Great to see how well everyone works together. Thanks for sharing this Jon!
An example of the hard work roadies put forth for a great show. Appreciated!
I'm glad I found this at the right time, this is definitely how everyone should work, together and making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
One thing that really stood out was how nice you were to those women. You were patient with them and treated them respectfully. That says a lot about your character. My buddy did pyro and he was the licensed guy when Rush came to town. I went with him and watched with amazement how fast they broke down everything and loaded out. There was zero waiting for someone to get done. It was so beautifully choreographed. Just like in this video. You hurry because you know your carpenter is coming to remove that riser. Great video. PS: I'm a drummer and have done what you did a million times, not as a tech, but as a drummer who couldn't afford a drum tech .
John....this is extremely cool. Glad to see you were raised right. Very respectful and humble man!
10 minute tear down! You are FLYING. Awesome.
Very cool. Can you do one where you set it up as well? Just curious.
Watch it in reverse
@@sparrovski hahaha smartass
@@sparrovski lol
I was a drum tech on my younger years. My uncle had a band and the drummer hired me as his drum tech. We played smaller.venues like the aragon ballroom in Chicago or the house of blues, etc. Miss them days out on the road on the tour bus. I was left behind once somewhere in Texas. I had to call 911 to stop them. LOL Everyone was laughing for days including myself.
Awesome! Thanks so much for uploading, awesome perspective.
So cool to see behind the scene at a big show, these guys make the big stuff happen
Thats awesome man! Love videos like this!!!
Very cool video. Jon, you are very courteous with the local crew and your instructions are clear to those not familiar with a drum set. I often have a guy help me tear down - always appreciate - some sometimes they breakdown parts too too much or take thumbscrews completely out. If you saved the two sticks to give to the ladies helping... Very nice gesture! :) all the best.
Very nice! Thanks for showing us a small portion of your job. It looks like fun.
Amazing!!! I really love what you guys do. So interesting to see. Hard work!! 👍👍👍
Awsome video man
It’s great to have help. I’d be freaking out if you had a tight time limit and you were breaking it all down on your own.
Great behind the scenes vid thanks for upload
Congrats due, great job!
Signs of a true professional, organized, kind/courteous, good communication skills, fast and efficient. I worked for 8 years at medium size arena and amphitheater as catering and Kraft services, would also help load outs sometimes for large shows if local stage crew needed extra help. I miss it very much, unfortunately I Had to stop due to physical injuries w/ my feet and now need cane to walk .
Very efficient; under 10 min wow! it takes me 45-60 min to set up and 40 min to tear down and case on my own, my kit is also bigger of course (see my profile pic). I never had, never will have a drum tech; this is so cool to watch!
This was really awesome to see! Thanks for posting it. What's the trap table that y'all use? I've never seen one that compact.
That’s the coolest mic setup for the snare! Where can I get one of those??
Awesome video man! I'm looking to get into teching myself very early stages. Any advice?
Man, this makes me miss working! Reminds me of when I hauled 1R. Clint would leave the drum vaults on my trailer, he would have the hands send the kit out to me, I'd put them away. Backline truck was out of the door within 20 minutes
i just came across this video....this is awesome...have you ever had issues of equipment damage from it not being packed up correctly?...not sure if some of these workers ever touched a drum before...
Beautiful DW
I would really love to know what those cymbal sleeve/wingnut alternatives are and the high hat clutch. They look super quick and way better than the typical quick release wing nuts that seem to always come up when I search.
Really cool video, I also like the snare drum tuning one as well, it's a better representation of real world practice compared to a lot of the others out there. You should definitely make some more when you get the time.
Duncan Bolton Cymbolt makes them
Duncan is right on the money 👇🏻. They are made by Cymbolt. And thanks! I plan on it here over the next few weeks in my home studio before the tour gets busy again.
Thanks! Another silly question, but I can't find them anywhere - what do you use to attach the in ear pack to the drum stool? Is it an awesome DIY duct tape creation or something that can actually be bought?
Duncan Bolton that's a DIY gaff tape creation! I use it all the time and it's great! I'll do a video on it one day.
I met Rich Redmond a few times. Cool dude. He's a huge Neil Peart fan.
What are those cymbal mounts that come off the stand with the cymbal?
People are commenting like it's a bug deal the arena crew were treated well ! They should be ! There as important as anyone! Most bands people are aholes and treat them like crap , no one is better than anyone else ! Nice to see him be respectful
Hi Jon: I worked the show Jason did with Lynyrd Skynyrd in Jacksonville, Fl. I posted this video on my facebook page and it appears that the riser is shaking, but I believe that's an optical illusion. Isn't it the camera mount on the drum rack that is shaking? I told someone that commented on the video that safety is everything, and performers, techs and local crew would NOT be walking on or stepping off of a wobbly platform that wasn't cross braced.
You are fantastic my brother
Im always using gloves. Drums has so many parts, sometimes accidents happens. I had coupple of contusions. And you dont touch cymbals wet hands.
Loszmi i usually am as well.
10 minutes!! You are super FAST man. That is awesome.
What is he using on the cymbal stands? I see you pull them straight off without any wing nut action lol I have the Aquariun springs but I still have to unscrew those
On those cymbals specifically, he uses Cymbolt fasteners, that allows him to mount and dismount cymbals quickly and efficiently, without unscrewing the cymbals.
Porter and davies bc2 drum stool ?
john fearon yessir!
Great videos.thanks for sharing.
Do you know where the Alesis SR18 drum machine is normally located on the kit?
Get it Jon! 🤘 Great Job Brother! 🙂 🥁...Wade...🥁
I wonder what rich is doing when all this tear down is happening
Hey, how do you store your cymbals with the cymbolts on them?
There's a specific cymbal bag made by Cymbolt that are designed to store the cymbals that have those fasteners mounted to them.
Are you envious of the kits that roll onto a truck riser intact? Seems like that is the norm nowadays.
🤔Hey I want a drum tech to set up a 10 piece Rigg mixed with acustic and electronics I'm also looking for a level stage riser with lockable wheel rollers to complement this kit
Good job man!! Who’s Rich Redmond?
very cool to see that
Hey I would like to use your video on my website about how to become a drum technician. I like your moves I'm retired from that job now, that's why I'm writing about how to become a drum technician. You are a good example!
My Drum Tech has been with me for years, trust him explicitly with my kit
What band is this?
Thanks !!
Everything has its place!
Pretty quick. I’m surprised you weren’t wearing gloves grabbing all that chrome and cymbals.
This was in Green Bay
Mr. Wigely Packers suck
Cool video ! This is a "well-oiled machine" !!
Good vid
i dig beiin roadie, drum tech crevv and so on :) Seen some pretty dig kits and so on thru the years :) Leningrad Covvboys is cool :)
A snake mic Jack is always good to have becuse it puts every mic cable together so you wouldn't step on the mic Jack's or damege any cords gotta love the snake set up
I know how a drumkit gets loaded out.... just watched this because I miss touring so much.
I hope he gets paid well for doing this night after night... These guys don't get enough credit for there job. Bands couldn't do what they do if not for the crew.
Uhh what band is this? There’s hardly anyone there.
Wow,the kit was pulled off the riser and packed in 9 minutes.
Nice Nice Nice
Very cool.
Although I would be so terified locals helping would damage my gear. Heck even having a tech would be hard for me 😂
Jon I don't know how you don't lose your mind every night. A bunch of stage hands that don't know what they are doing, omg drummers worst nightmare is having a bunch a inexperienced people helping tear down their kit. I would just rather doniy myself and know that it's done right everytime
I've been reading all the comments and I'm still trying to figure out what drummer who is this drummer that he's tearing down is rigged never says the headline is tearing down at or drum rig okay who
That's why I came to the comments
The guy is organized ans cool!
Dream job, iam a drumtech tooo 🤘😁
Why do u not have a drum tech?
Shelley Kinney he is the drum tech
This is the drum tech, he wouldn't be talking In third person lol.
also helps us club and bar drummers that are 1st and last ones in and out!!! haha....secret have a system that's fast and efficient on load outs
I know what it's like to be a local stage hand. Yeah usually the boss is an ass. But I suppose there's a reason for it. The whole operation of a show is fast paced. Trust me I've seen it first hand. PS.... I'm very impressed by the work ethic of the famous bosses. They are certainly on a schedule. So that's why everything is done perfectly and precise.
they start breakdown the stage right after the show? why so hurry?
Not my call man, I just pack up my gear ha!
because its all gotta get loaded up and shipped off to the next city and set back up again. takes alot of work.
all venues end last truck 1 am depending on number of trucks and sleeper coaches it varies get a good crew with locals and you may set records getting out earlier. I've done it all and still do been on times where at 6 trucks at same time loaded. you have to be on ball all time very dangerous espc with lighting truss
Venue will have a time curfew usually
Man this reminds me the days when I had to break down my own gear in a hurry so the next band to take the stage. I had to haul ass with no help while my bandmates were done, drinking beers.
There were times when I lost some of my gear cause I was in a mad rush due to the stage manager telling me to get my kit off the stage like in 5 minutes tops.
Cool, ten minutes and off to the bus. I love country music. lol
🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Lady said she got yelled at.... come on this is not a construction site.
It has to be the worst job ever!
I’m a drummer & I have to do this myself all the time with very little help from my band mates but it’s definitely A LOT of work! 😡👎👎
But I LOVE playing! 😊👍👍
I'm a roadie and I also play too don't be discouraged all is well
Hardest part, breaking down setting up,shouldve played gtar
how tf is this so interesting???
I thought this was cool until he put the top hi-hat in the in the bag with the clutch stil on... really? ..sheesh!
They left the mounts on the other cymbals
Too. It made my heart jump a bit.
I can see why cymbals break during touring. And its not from hitting them 😬
Cymbolts are designed for quick removal and storage.
As a drummer, this is the part of playing out I hated.
Left a pair of stick's.
Cool video but that kit is way too much for someone like Jason Aldean lol.
A real drummer has to do it himself hahaha
Roadie
Now in my boring top 10 list.
Rich is a great drummer but playing for a fake ass country artist would make me cringe everynight before going on stage. But I bet hes making bank touring with that goon.
Wow! Like a well-oiled machine! Great to see how well everyone works together. Thanks for sharing this Jon!
