You and Matt rule! I am a drum teacher, and this videos help me a lot during classes! Thanks, and yes you are AS COOL AS MATT!
Lol thanks so much, Matt has definitely cornered the POV videos. I've been doing these kinds of vlogs for a while but not as popular as his.
LOL Starting with and seeing the Matt references are golden, I mean Gabe, Matt, You and now Nick, are taking the entire show to the forefront for the public like they've never seen before.
Happy to do so! And we are having fun doing so.

Finally....the Drummer and the Drum Tech POV. this is just too perfect.
lol we do what we can
I’m a drummer and I love this kind of videos. More drums techs should do this so we can see the behind the scenes and dream one day we will be there.
Thanks for watching! I know that not all bands/artists allow the crew to post things like this. So that might be why a lot of other techs don't post. But I'll keep posting!

Dude I follow Matt Horn and discovered his channel by accident because I love behind the scenes stuff and when I saw his video I was like...hmmm this looks familiar only to discover I took my family to see Falling In Reverse with Avenged Sevenfold and was blown away to see all that stuff when we saw it so I subbed and watched his stuff. Now today your video popped up on my feed from another great band I love so yeah I'm all in and subbed and look forward to watching all your videos etc. Mad love and respect to you brother. Thumbs UP and shared all the time from here on. A+++++++
Thanks so much dude! Ironically I was just filling in for a couple shows for them. My normal gigs are Disturbed and Staind. Then my own band that doesn’t tour at the moment but a lot of my content is based on that band too. Cheers!
Should be a criminal offense for big arenas to not have coffee stations for band and crew. Start to finish crew lets go.
I agree! Should be more common!
guess you get spoiled on the BIG venues...
@@mrr8682 it depends, but it takes a lot of crew to make these shows happen so the little perks like a coffee station in the backstage area are really appreciated!
You're so cool, bro. Hello from Thailand🇹🇭
🙏🏼🤘🏼 cheers!
Have you ever thought about a Pearl Icon Rack system? You can cut the legs down to make a stealth rack for the right side of the kit. Makes setting up a little easier IMO, more stable, and just looks nicer :) Keep up the awesome work sir!
If that was my permanent gig I would for sure suggest that to Gabe. I use a Gibraltar rack myself, and use multiple icon racks for my Disturbed gig, very sturdy!

What an awesome video Dave!! Is this a new kit for Gabe, don't remember him playing the Pearl Reference?? thanks and can't wait for the next one..
He had the kit for a while now from what I was told, the last year or two? He has videos on his channel revealing this kit a while back.
@@DavidNesterDrums oh nice, I missed that video! Keep up the great content Dave..
Hey Dave, I notice some bands already have the risers etc. But in this case, does the venue supply them? How does that work normally? Great vids, brother!
It was a stage rental company for these two shows, but normally if it’s a tour you’ll travel with your riser in the semi/trailer with the rest of the gear.
You work FAST! 🤣❤️👍🥁😉😎🤘
Haha I’m very very speedy
Very good video… man love the Pearl Reference Pure set with the „old“ Reference Brass Snare ❤ Is this in Germany?
Pretty sure he’s using the snare yes but not the shells, those will be rentals over there.
Love this! man I have the typical 8 10 12 14 16 tom 22 kick... but I would love just to jam on 12 16 18 toms with my 22. Beefy and simple. Gotta find me an affordable 18. Killer vid man. SUBSCRIBED!! edit... everyone seems to be using Meinl now... I have 2 18 crashes, dark crash and power crash. Very nice, they are picking up!
Thanks for watching! I would also like to get a. 18” floor to match my white kit and my wood stained kit. So much fun to play!
I love the video hope to see more I have one question is it ok to spray paint a drum set and rims for a newer color
Thanks for watching! I've spray painted drums and hardware before, one of the issues I've had is the paint flaking and chipping over time. The best way to go about getting the hardware done properly is to powder coat the metal hardware, it will last longer and look cleaner.
@DavidNesterDrums ok, cool, thank you so much I well look into that right way
Hey, David! Love your vlogs! What kind of tape do you use on your rugs? Curious what will actually stick and stay stuck over time.
GAF tape is the way to go, it’s the standard tape for most things on the production side of music, TV, movies etc.
@@DavidNesterDrums right on, kinda figured. Thanks for taking the time to share the road with us! And for answering a billion questions! 😅🤘
@@mattswanson79 haha no worries at all, happy to share!
loved the set up on this. i wanna learn how to adjust the tom's height but i got some issues on my PDP kit.
Loved the playing at the end. But wheres the drum intro before the main intro that gabe played? we need more vlogs like this please?
Can’t answer the intro question but I’ll do more videos for sure!
@@DavidNesterDrums The intro that Gabe played before the main actual intro. I've seen it on his POV vlogs.
@@Rusli1659LPSoldier we just played the song Bow Down, no intro this time. I think when they open with Bow Down they have an extended intro for it maybe?
@@DavidNesterDrums yeah the extended intro is better because it gives the energy of the song but it would make people feel pumped.
@@Rusli1659LPSoldier I bet, since we were just doing a soundcheck to make sure the levels of everything were the same they didn't want a full song. Don't always get a chance to do that.
DANG DUDE! Save some tech jobs for the rest of us! 😆 TEAR IT UP!
If I’m available I go when I get the call lol, was only filling in here tho.
Thought that was an OG Atticus shirt at first 🤙🏻
Looks that way, but it’s a band called Finch!
What app are they using to control the backtracks?, that jam 🔥
Net Midi and Midipad. And hey thanks!
I've wondered how well the 'Kickblock' works. I just use 30lb dumbbells hugged around the kick spurs
They work great with the right carpet, that’s the challenge is finding carpet that lets Velcro stick to it!
Love the vlog David, but is there a way to make it less shaky? Please? It would make it easier on the eyes!
I turned on the stabilization on the camera and used the filter in post editing... next time I'll be sure to do that for ya. Plenty of other vlogs on here... let me know if those are too shaky for you too.
I have a question i notice when Matt does new heads he pushes down on the head to seat it and i didnt notice you do it is it necessary to do or just a preference?? Great job by the way first time watching will be watching more so please keep them coming
Thanks for watching and I will keep doing them. Breaking in the heads can be done multiple ways, I usually push my thumbs into the edge of each head breaking it in that way, plus I push down in the middle normally, might’ve not caught that on video tho.
@DavidNesterDrums ah ha thank you for the response yea great job and I will be watching bro I'm a sub for the long haul 😀
Sooooo what are those black dots with cables hanging off the shells? Some kind of internal mic system?
Those are actually drum triggers, used for our front of house engineer as gates.
Yo, cool as always!...Does that Porter and Davis BC2 have 2 mic inputs? (If that is what it is)....I have 2 kicks, can't seems to get a straight answer anywhere...
You should be able to get any signal to come through one cable since it’s plugged into a console that can send signals to it. Hope that makes sense. You don’t plug straight into the seat from the kick.
@@DavidNesterDrums Hey so I can run 2 mics into the BC2 and the sound guy just runs 1 output?
@@blackdrumz I never run any cables to the BC2 except for power and the power con cable to the throne. The whole kit is mic’d and then runs to monitor world and front of house. Then they send us a single line to the BC2 with whatever output we need usually ran from monitor world. So depends on the drummer for what he needs in the thumper line. Does that make sense?
Hey man, Thanks for your time!...so let's say no sound system. Can I plug 2 of my D112's into the BC2? (2 mic inputs)..Or just 1 mic capable...
@@blackdrumz According to what I looked up on google, you can plug your kick drum directly into the BC2. Doesn't say anything about 2 kicks but I bet you could try and see what it does!
Woulda loved to see how you tuned those things. They sound great
I have some tuning videos on my channel, I use the same style of tuning for everyone I work for.
@@DavidNesterDrums oh ill check it out! Thanks man
@@AndyHunkele No worries!
Any particular reason why you take care to put everything on the rug marks if you're going to take everything apart anyway? I'd figure it about the cymbal stands legs aperture but what about the rest
Since it was my first gig filling in for them, I wanted to make sure everything was in order with my carpet markings and placement. Plus we didn't know when the risers were going to show up, so I started working before the truck with the rented risers even pulled in. Normally I would set it up on the riser right away if it was there.
I could have been a contender!
Contender?
Thoughts on working with remo vs Evans as a change?
I still prefer Evans over Remo, but I am usually able to get a good tone out of the drums with either brand. I’ve noticed more Remo heads have more imperfections than Evans over all, like more defective heads.
Did i miss it in the speed up? I didn't see you compress the new heads that were put on.
Might've done it off camera but I do that every time for sure.
Figured as much. Thanks for the response!
What's that cable coming out of the snare, toms, etc...) ?
They are single zone triggers that we attach to the toms, kick and snare to help with operating the gates for FOH sound and Monitors.
@@DavidNesterDrums Oh yeah ! Thanx for your reply !
Is it the bigger the band the more you get paid? Or not necessarily?
It really just depends on the gig just like most jobs lol.
Good question!
please keep vlogging
I'll do my best!
What head are you running on the kick?
Evans EMAD2 on the kick with the smaller of the two foam pad options. Reso head I’m not sure, I think just a standard reso head with their artwork on the front.
@@DavidNesterDrums sounded so great in that arena when you were sound checking
@@patshaughnessy8488 good! That’s always the goal!
What kind of snare Gabe is using
Pearl Reference 14" x 6.5" Rolled Brass Snare Drum
Love that you are doing this but not getting why you set up the drums on the ground then have to do it all over on the riser? Obviously you know what you are doing but seems like a lot of extra work. Maybe do the Matt Horn method and set them up on the riser to begin with.
You’re correct I normally would, we actually didn’t get the riser until I was halfway set up if you watch the video. I wanted to adjust everything and make sure the memory locks were right and sometimes the drummer likes to sit behind the kit so I wanted to have it ready just in case.
I almost always build on the riser if it’s ready for me or if we travel with one. This was a rental riser situation and it showed up late.
@@DavidNesterDrums Thanks for the clarification, David. Makes sense. I will watch more of your videos!
Wen ASMR drum tuning vid?
lol I do have a drum tuning video I made a few years back on my page you can check out. That’s how I tune for all my gigs.
Bro, you gotta show us the band... we gotta know that that's real.
Say what? Gotta know that what’s real? Gabe has a very active UA-cam channel, you can see it’s real through his page lol. When they are playing I’m working so it’s not as easy to get footage.
What happened to Matt?
Matt? Their old tech is named Josh, and I was just filling in for a couple shows.
If you’re talking about Matt Horn, he works for a band called Falling in Reverse and is also joining the A Day To Remember crew this summer.
Great video Dave !!! My erotic dream , Matt and you doing a drum POV , hehehe.
Dont you travel with a raiser? Because you mount the drums before to do it over the raiser
Cheers from Barcelona!!!!!
We didn’t travel with the riser for these two shows, so I was waiting on the rental risers to show up. I knew I was limited on time so I set up the kit to be sure all my placement was correct, and the riser showed up as I was doing that. But normally yes, build on the riser if the kit doesn’t travel mostly built.
I guessed it, I'm my drum tech, you know, low budget mini tours, and sometimes is a pain in the ass when you have a Big kit and not raisers, you expect that people from the venue put the raiser and then they have a mini raiser, 2x2 meters....when you need a 3x3, then rental or making magic to put all in the mini raiser. Sometimes is an adventure before I play drums live, nevermind if you sent all the specs.
David, do you have more footage with Disturbed?
Congrats for your great work with such great bands!!!!!
Cheers bro
Hey how’s Gabe doing
He was good for those two shows I helped with!

grab yourself a right and left golf glove. no more finger prints and the grip is amazing and it dont feel like you are wearing gloves
Not a bad idea, I sometimes wear gloves when setting up hardware or rubber gloves when polishing cymbals.
@@DavidNesterDrums the gloves gloves are your best bet i recommend the foot joy pair. i use them for set up and polishing. i wouldn't use them for cleaning tho. not sure how the chemicals will react to the gloves. good disposable rubber gloves is all i would use for that

Thought Gabe didn’t use a drum tech lol someone’s slacking
Haha 😆 he’s slacking?? Naw his band is getting to a decent size and can afford crew members. Plus at a certain level the band shouldn’t have to load in and set up their own gear lol.
If you’ve got a drum tech as a Turing band u r doing the opposite of slacking
