I was so shocked that any of them came to Xbox/Windows 10, and I really severely hope that continues in the future, because these games are so perfect for Xbox Play Anywhere.
old comment but spin-offs already weren't locked to playstation long before strikers did, they may have been some exclusivity deals for the mainline behind the scenes as before it was bought by sega which was about 2012 they were struggling a bit, in a way p5 is still playstation only just royal is on everything else
I've seen video game companies acknowledge fan groups on Twitter and listen to the feedback. Game companies use all sources to listen to feedback. I don't understand your need to belittle people on Twitter. Smh
We can only hope that P6 will be on all platforms and just maybe some of their other games can make it to other platforms like idk SMT tried to play 5 on Switch and I just can't.
I wouldn’t say Twitter is the sole reason but to say it had no effect just isn’t true. Customer backlash made Xbox revert its plans to increase prices on Gold, made Sony do a 180 on closing ps3 and vita stores, made nvidia change its mind about launching 2 different 4080 GPUS
This kinda comes off as salt. This video has a distinct bias and slant against the ppl who voiced their desire for Persona on Switch. Nobody was under the impression the social media manager makes decisions. However, higher ups browse their social media feeds to get a feel for what fans are saying. Make no mistake. The fan outcry ABSOLUTELY helped bring the game to Switch. Yes it can be annoying for some ppl. But if not that many ppl want it, you'll never see many posts. If EVERYONE is posting, it clearly shows the company is not meeting market demand.
Fan outcry absolutely does help get the word out that games are desired, just look at Operation Rainfall. I'll take some annoying guy posting comments on Twitter if it means some day we might get more games on more platforms.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the campaigns did help, as the ports had ro take a couple of years do to the sheer size of the game *AND* the unbelievable job they did. I mean heck, I get a locked 120 at 1440p max settings using a 5700 non X with a broken fan I bought new in 2019 for $300 USD and now runs about $150-$200 on eBay (or you could just get better performance for $235 with a new 6600XT). Then add in an almost error-free translation and insanely on point anime voice acting and oh my goodness. Then the switch port, which uses completely different hardware than the Xbox and the ports are even more impressive. Then you have 3 different OS's as the backbones, 4 if you count the Steamdeck and again, this wasn't a team of 30 working for 6 months in the office basement. More like a team of 100 going for a solid 2 years, and pulling off what might be the best JRPG port I've ever seen. I mean the bloody thing was made for the PS3's weird cell APU which is far and away the most difficult modern system to bring to current platforms. Emulation is out if you want good performance, so though 30 FPS/med or 60 upscaled on the PS4 may have been alright, it would have been a disaster on PC and Xbox (though the style of the graphics and pacing of the game would still play great at 30 since you don't exactly need lightning fast response times here). Anyway, I'd *NEVER* have given not only this game, but the genre as a whole a chance if not for this port. 130 or so hours in and I'm hooked. Normally it's games like the Mass Effect series, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Horizon Zero Dawn, heck even Baldur's Gate 3 (Early Access) and Spider-Man that draw me in and keep me until the end. Yet somehow this teen life sim/romcom/turn based jrpg has me forcing myself to go to bed irl at 4am so I can get at least 2.5 hours of sleep. Oops, back on topic; if the campaign for the port started 3.5 years ago and lasted 2 years, there's a good chance the publisher saw the momentum it was picking up, looked at sales of similar games, and greenlit P4 Golden which would have been a far less expensive endeavor. With the hype around that, well before release being through the roof, along with Gamepass subs begging Microsoft to get the games to their service; well I can certainly see a Microsoft exec calling Atlus and putting out feelers and saying something like _"Well, if the games are ever going to be ported we might be able to cover that dev cost and then some if you're willing to put the games on Gamepass"_ which is now huge in Japan (especially with Sony being complete douches to the Japanese market, ditching their Japanese HQ and tossing around comments about how sexist they are bc...well why not? Heh, 2022 I suppose is reason enough). Now was it the only reason? Of course not, that'd be silly, but who knows if Atlus would have gotten the bug to put a third of their AAA staff on Golden for 6-12 months had the Twitter blitz not happened? Without Golden's success and the relationship it formed with Microsoft PSR may never have come to PC or Xbox at all. I do however think it would have made it to Switch regardless as they expected big sales there. The PC sales, even after Golden's success, have to have Atlus asking what hundreds of thousands of others said or reposted, *_"Why didn't we do this sooner? Do we hate money or something?"_* ;^) .
P3 wasn't stuck on old hardware, it was imprisoned and off the streets for the good of society and innocent people. Unfortunately its sentence has come to a premature end and public safety is once again in jeopardy
Persona 4 Golden on Steam is the reason for all of these ports finally happening. But there's an even earlier sort of seed that lead to all of this eventually happening. That is the Yakuza Zero port on Steam back in 2018. That was patient zero (heh) in Sega's 'let's try porting stuff to PC to see how it does'. And due to the huge success it had, they started porting all of the rest of the series to PC and eventually game pass with huge success. And eventually pushing for simultaneous releases on PC and consoles. Sega being Atlus' parent company it makes sense that they'd also push for Persona and Megaten to get to PC and Other systems as well. Which is why Yakuza: Like a Dragon and P5 Strikersreleased at the same time on all systems at least on the west, and eventually, in the case of Soul Hackers 2 and the upcoming Like a Dragon ishin, worldwide releases instead of first Japan and then wait for the localization to drop months late. Hopefully we get a port of SMT5 on PC as well and eventual future releases keep this trend of multiplatform releases.
I will say, after playing on rpcs3 and then royal on ps4 a bit, and now playing at 60fps, god is it so much more smooth. And that smooth animation does this game wonders. Fits the style!
I honestly think atlus just had some exclusivity deal with Sony for the mainline games and when it expired and they didn't resign the agreement they finally ported it to everything. Golden kinda throws a wrench in this but maybe it was just for new games? Idk maybe I'm reaching lol
I never expected the game to come to Switch until Joker got into Smash (which to this day, I'm really not sure why that happened. He's fun to play as but as far as DLC reps go he didn't have any real history with Nintendo except Q2). What actually got me thinking was Royal's Thieves Den awards, they're an in-game Achievement system and the actual PS4 Trophies for Royal feel like an afterthought (mostly being "do this daily activity once"), so that seemed tailor-made for a console with no achievements. I never had any strong feelings either way, the only time it bothered me was when Strikers got hate simply for "P5S" not standing for "Persona 5 Switch". Oh man, I get Encoding Overload too so I know how that feels. I haven't tried it on my new laptop though. And on that ending: Yeah people forget, Original P5: announced for 2014. Delayed to 2015. Ended up coming out in mid 2016. In Japan. Western release April 2017.
It's great that you cut in Mike and Jay pointing and laughing, considering my personal reaction to Joker being in Smash Bros was just an equivalent to Mike yelling in disbelief about Wonder Woman being a good movie.
well, to me that joker seems to me like a male bayonetta... comming from someone that haven't even played bayonetta nor persona 5 tho... they act and look similar...
This seemed less of an introspective look at to why mainline Persona was finally released on other platforms and more of a obnoxious rant about a twitter hashtag. I mean you could of talked about Sega’s influence on Atlus, talked more about Atlus previous confusing decisions (like Persona 4 on PS2 when the PS3’s been out for quite awhile), they’re confusing announcement patterns, how in the past Japanese developers would focus on one system instead of multiplat. But you chose such a boring path with this video delivered in a kind of condescending way.
8:49 Actually that's a mistake. They announced it during the Xbox Showcase, and it was a huge deal. There are a lot of reasons it broke free. But I think one of the biggest was the deal Sega and Microsoft did. Yakuza was a big success for Steam and Gamepass And daddy Phil threw another big check to Sega and said "Force that dudes Atlus you own make ports to Xbox and PC".And they did About Switch I don't know.Maybe Atlus thought like whatever,if it's on Xbox and PC,we should do Switch too.Hard to say
Should really bring all the games to steam at the very least. Annoys me that so many games are only on one platform and they’re a bunch of different platforms. Switch, 3Ds, PlayStation. Specific consoles. It’s dumb.
I don't think you made a strong argument when it comes to fans having had an impact or not on the rerelease. For one, calling these things an "outcry" or "crybabies" does not serve an argument, it only shows bias. A more neutral term would be that there was demand for it. That the demand was a little too loud from *some* fans doesn't make it less legitimate as a whole. Consumers giving feedback and making demand is part of the normal life cycle of any product, why would it be different when it comes to video games? Now, there also wasn't evidence one way or the other that Atlus and SEGA was influenced by social medias demand. "Do you really think...?" Well, yeah, I do, even though I never participated in any of this. We see it more and more recently how social media impact development cycle and make or break a release. Doesn't mean it's right, but it definitely has an impact. And it's not always a bad one, I'm glad we got the sonic we got in the movies :)
I honestly doubt that it was only a matter of want to release P5 on other Plattforms. its more likely that Sony invested into P5, and then had to stay sony exlucsive for a certain time. So this is less about breaking free and just about time served, maybe early release.
If port begging actually did anything Mother 3 would have come out in the west by now. It just made financial success to the company to get P5R on multiple platforms.
Funny story about my intro to persona and smt for that matter. When dlc was announced joker looked so cool and prior to his release me and a mate had a game to do. Play every game that dlc fighters are from. So naturally p5 was first. From that I went down the rabbit hole played p3 loved it even more than 5 got into smt then got hyped for smt 5. So it was really cool that 1 character in smash lead me to finding one of my now favourite series of games

why are we complaining on fans constantly begging for the game when they were told to do so Im prob equally annoyed 4 mins into your video as you seem to be over nothing.
i literally say in the video that the social media posting was mostly fine for like the first month. it eventually devolved into people getting angry that every game announcement wasn't persona 5 on switch. while i'm not *personally* affected by it, as its not addressed toward me anyway, i think its concerning that this seems to be the attitude people are gonna take going forward whenever fans want anything.
Honestly I always found the whole "Joker is in Smash so Persona 5 MUST come to the Switch!" argument to be pretty weak, since it's clearly coming from people who haven't played the game (it's fair to say that P5 has the biggest amount of poser fans) and based on the reaction of every other JRPG announced on Nintendo Directs I'm under the impression that perhaps they were begging over something that maybe isn't actually their cup of tea (+ the fact they kinda turned up their noses to the Catherine: Full Body, TMS#FE and Strikers ports for not being P5 but ignoring that in order to show there's an audience on Switch they do have to support their releases, much like P4G on Steam) *I wonder how many of those people right now finally got their wish granted just to realise they don't like the game that much outside of the aesthetics and ultimately drop it and never finish it since they find it to be "too long"*
I can play the alternative port, but I'll wait for a good sale to play the normal port, most copium since Steam will rise the prices in my region, so the 250 game will probably cost 320/340
Publishers should be considering releasing on the switch more often than they do. They just don't like the challenge of paying devs to optimise their games to run on the switch. Which could be considered lazy or cheap by some, as the Witcher / Nier Automata / Doom / Breath of the Wild all run perfectly fine on the Switch. Where as I agree that we should be patient when waiting for games, I still feel that publishers should recognise where there is a clear demand and get their titles released for that market as quick as possible.
This video is useless, you gave no information about what was going on inside the studio, why it was a Sony exclusive or things like that, instead you gave attention to a a few losers on twitter and 4chan no one cares about. there's no definitive proof that there was a sony exclusivity deal. if you were expecting insider knowledge, that's not what this video was about. i clearly stated what the video IS about before getting into it. you also forgot the part where i mention the several other ports/multi-platform releases we got between golden and royal, the surveys, and the part about establishing megaten's presence on all platforms. (literally the most of the second half of the video)
Playstation till this day is still locking highly anticipated games as their exclusives 🤦♂️ Sigh... It took 6 years for xbox and pc. I hope persona 6 is released at all platforms at launch.
I am glad persona 5 royal is finally multiplat and that persona 4 golden and persona 3 portable will be soon but I will be honest. SEGA is dumb as hell for not porting that to switch sooner, smash is a massive IP while persona despite growing is still pretty niche, SEGA missed out on a massive cross promotion oppitunity there
I was totally expecting Atlus to never port P5R to switch as a message telling Twitter to basically fuck off, stop complaining otherwise we’ll never port it to Switch. But they did port it to switch and other platforms surprisingly. Now there’ll be a huge influx of ACTUAL persona fans now. Now the “persona fans” can actually be persona fans because they can finally play the game.

It's cause it's annoying. I don't mind people asking for it but to do if its on every post they made even the Japanese Twitter when it wasn't even a out Persona. That's what is cringe and annoying.
@@Noodlepunk But like, who cares? It’s Twitter, it doesn’t matter anyway. There are thousands of dumb Twitter posts every day. What is “cringe” is being cynical that more people can play these games.
@@NoonDragoon Nobody was saying you can't want P5 on other platforms. I am happy it's on PC so I can play it on my steam deck. What is unacceptable is when people got mad when SMT 5 was on Switch and P5 wasn't yet. It's unacceptable that they talk about P5 on other games that Atlus was talking about that was not Persona. Especially on the Japanese Twitter.
@@Noodlepunk Unacceptable to who? This video already made the argument that no higher ups at Atlus really care what comments on Twitter say. So it's just to other fans that it's unacceptable? Why do you care so much what some annoying dude posts on Twitter?
Takeshi isn't getting paid enough. He really keeps up with the kEwL kids and all dem hashtags (and mildly at best helped with SEO).
takeshi’s the one who needs a hashtag social movement
I'm glad you recognise the part to play the surveys had in getting us here. Some Tubers think it was gonna be an eventuality without p4G happening on Steam which is bizarre.
the only thing that made me scream during the xbox presentation was Persona 5 being announce for xbox, with p4 and p3 as well. the hype i had was insane i never thought it would happen but man im so happy it did
It’s funny because if you look at Atlus’s tweets now, it’s all whining and begging for SMT games. But it’s ok because SMT good 🗿
Wait...wait....SMT fans are begging for ports of old games?
I was so shocked that any of them came to Xbox/Windows 10, and I really severely hope that continues in the future, because these games are so perfect for Xbox Play Anywhere.
Still blows my mind strikers came to PC and switch long before p5
old comment but spin-offs already weren't locked to playstation long before strikers did, they may have been some exclusivity deals for the mainline behind the scenes as before it was bought by sega which was about 2012 they were struggling a bit, in a way p5 is still playstation only just royal is on everything else
The Persona fanbase is the only fanbase I think I've seen (outside the Sony faithful) that demonizes people asking for games
Jesus Christ.....
I hope to see more remakes, HD remasters, and ports of all the SMT and related games.
Cry about it
Short summary:Success of Chad Narukami invading Steam inspirated Atlus to let green light to both P3 MC's and Ren to go in Steam too
Atlus asked for this
never ask the internet to "keep whining for thing". youll never hear the end of it
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the campaigns did help, as the ports had ro take a couple of years do to the sheer size of the game *AND* the unbelievable job they did.
I'm just happy the games are on multiplatforms now and not stuck on old hardware like P3 is
P3 wasn't stuck on old hardware, it was imprisoned and off the streets for the good of society and innocent people.
So exciting that people on twitter can stop fucking complaning.
After they're done they just move on to the next game lol
I would love atlus to release persona 6 and it being only on playstation lmao
@@Chillgamesh dear god, i can imagine the outrage
@@mizzix would be so funny!
I mean, there is already tweets I see on most Twitter posts from Atlus to bring SMT games to other platforms. So it never really stops.
This was my hunch as well. My guess is that they didn't sign an eternal exclusivity deal with Royal and just with the base game.
And on that ending: Yeah people forget,
Original P5: announced for 2014. Delayed to 2015. Ended up coming out in mid 2016. In Japan. Western release April 2017.
if it's a new laptop, it should do much better hopefully. haha.
Word of Mouth hyped the franchise so when P4G was finally released on PC the stage had been set.
I also really enjoyed Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch.
did people even want persona 5 on switch before the smash announcement
Yakuza was a big success for Steam and Gamepass
And daddy Phil threw another big check to Sega and said "Force that dudes Atlus you own make ports to Xbox and PC".And they did
About Switch I don't know.Maybe Atlus thought like whatever,if it's on Xbox and PC,we should do Switch too.Hard to say
I started on Ps5 recently, I'll be starting over on steam/steamdeck along with 4
Yeah remember P5 Winter 2014, Chair-kun and Chairy Potter
If port begging actually did anything Mother 3 would have come out in the west by now. It just made financial success to the company to get P5R on multiple platforms.
Funny story about my intro to persona and smt for that matter. When dlc was announced joker looked so cool and prior to his release me and a mate had a game to do. Play every game that dlc fighters are from. So naturally p5 was first. From that I went down the rabbit hole played p3 loved it even more than 5 got into smt then got hyped for smt 5. So it was really cool that 1 character in smash lead me to finding one of my now favourite series of games
Remember the rtards clowning the goomba man for suggesting Atlus to grow a brain and do the sensible thing a business should do? I wonder where they are now. Fatlus did this way too late lol.

The look on my face must've been priceless when I searched Persona 5 on the Microsoft store and saw that not only was it actually there, but free on game pass
I gladly spent 60€ on P5Royale on PC. I waited for so long without getting any spoilers and now im 25 hours in. Incredible quality game, worth every single €.
Meanwhile I just got into the Persona series and I’ve been happily playing P5R on the switch, clueless to the long journey to make it happen 😅
Sega has been pushing out their games that are locked for certain consoles to every possible device
Yakuza is the biggest example, it was locked to the Playstation, but later on was released on pc then xbox, now it's available on Gamepass as a whole, Ishin remake will be the first game in the series to release on all platforms on all regions day one
I can see Persona getting future releases to be similar
I see your point but if you really think that fan demand wasn't part of this then i don't know what to tell you, companies do actually take fan feedback into account even if it's not always delivered on.
I played the og p5 on ps3 and i'm now glad that the series made it on other platforms and that's what's important, there was no need to sound so pretentious and obnoxious about this honestly.
i literally brought up the surveys, but alright.

I remember finding out about RPCS3's existence when the whole thing went down about Atlus DMCAing the RPCS3 dev team. I think it was around the time of Royal's release? But I remember thinking how can you say "Yeah, we want you to be able to experience the game, but this isn't the way." when you are still only releasing on Playstation?
Idk if youve played it yet, but 13 sentinels is an amazing game, and im neither a tower defense nor a vn-style kind of guy, but holy moley, its story is amazing, and the gameplay is pretty fun
The tl;dr of the video for me was "Guys why cry on Twitter when this old Japanese company is totally gonna release this game. We all know that the old Japanese companies don't make dumb business choices."
Yeah this video is completely useless. He just ranted abount a bunch of losers on twitter no one cares about and just said "well at some point they released P4G on Steam, it sold a lot, then they released P5R", wow such a great insight thanks
Unless they're Nintendo.

why are we complaining on fans constantly begging for the game
when they were told to do so
Im prob equally annoyed 4 mins into your video as you seem to be over nothing.
i literally say in the video that the social media posting was mostly fine for like the first month. it eventually devolved into people getting angry that every game announcement wasn't persona 5 on switch. while i'm not *personally* affected by it, as its not addressed toward me anyway, i think its concerning that this seems to be the attitude people are gonna take going forward whenever fans want anything.
2:48 the funniest part of the video in my opinion 😅
Honestly I always found the whole "Joker is in Smash so Persona 5 MUST come to the Switch!" argument to be pretty weak, since it's clearly coming from people who haven't played the game (it's fair to say that P5 has the biggest amount of poser fans) and based on the reaction of every other JRPG announced on Nintendo Directs I'm under the impression that perhaps they were begging over something that maybe isn't actually their cup of tea (+ the fact they kinda turned up their noses to the Catherine: Full Body, TMS#FE and Strikers ports for not being P5 but ignoring that in order to show there's an audience on Switch they do have to support their releases, much like P4G on Steam)
*I wonder how many of those people right now finally got their wish granted just to realise they don't like the game that much outside of the aesthetics and ultimately drop it and never finish it since they find it to be "too long"*
Davids face got a cameo! Nice!
cant wait for the P5R video, i hope its over 2 hours. not joking.
3:13 Fadel is... a content creator alright
also God don't show orginal Persona 5 or i'll have PTSD of the "Chain protag" times
ok but where is the switch port for Jack Bros
Your 13:30 minutes video can be summarized in a few words: "For some reasons they released P4G on pc, sold a million copies, then they announced P5R for other platforms". That's it.
there's no definitive proof that there was a sony exclusivity deal. if you were expecting insider knowledge, that's not what this video was about. i clearly stated what the video IS about before getting into it. you also forgot the part where i mention the several other ports/multi-platform releases we got between golden and royal, the surveys, and the part about establishing megaten's presence on all platforms. (literally the most of the second half of the video)
That wasn't our Last Surprise
lol, from 2014. all fans had going for persona 5 were chairs, holy shit it felt like forever before p5 finally released
SMTV is still only exclusive on Switch. It needs a PC port.
:)
I never heard anybody wine about wanting Persona 5 on switch?? I thought they wanted it on their Coleco Vision
Playstation till this day is still locking highly anticipated games as their exclusives 🤦♂️ Sigh... It took 6 years for xbox and pc.
I hope persona 6 is released at all platforms at launch.
It works for MVC2.
So if I complain enough . . . Will they finally translate Devil Summoner and rerelease the TV show!
I am glad persona 5 royal is finally multiplat and that persona 4 golden and persona 3 portable will be soon but I will be honest. SEGA is dumb as hell for not porting that to switch sooner, smash is a massive IP while persona despite growing is still pretty niche, SEGA missed out on a massive cross promotion oppitunity there
Inb4 it goes from people screaming "put persona 5 on switch!!!" to "why did it take so long to put persona 5 on switch???
any amount of time longer than "at the next atlus event" is too long!!!!
You know how much money I spend here?

I was totally expecting Atlus to never port P5R to switch as a message telling Twitter to basically fuck off, stop complaining otherwise we’ll never port it to Switch. But they did port it to switch and other platforms surprisingly. Now there’ll be a huge influx of ACTUAL persona fans now. Now the “persona fans” can actually be persona fans because they can finally play the game.

Now if Nintendo would just release Mother 3.
I bought it twice on Switch
Now to beg them to port SMT5 to any system besides switch
Now can we get the SMT GAMES ON PC? But I guess I can always emulate.
SMT 3 Nocturne Remaster didn't sell too well on Steam, so SMT might stay on the Nintendo platforms for the time being.
Disagree with this Video it's more then likely Microsoft and Sega made this happpen this had nothing to do with people asking for a switch port
The two compaines have close ties and now that Sega owns Atlus they can take risks like Multi-plat
I bought a ps5 for p5. Glad to know it was a mistake glad they broke free tho
This is the best Persona 5 video on UA-cam
So…. Where can we get that controller in the beginning looks pretty cool and now I want one
