Apperently Sho was meant to be P5's protagonist but somewhere down the line they completely scrapped that idea (from P4AU's code and the manga). so it'll made sense why P5's FeMC looks like Sho
Is it confirmed that the red haired girl was a female protagonist? Because they stated after P3P they would never do dual protagonists again, because it is so much extra work. She does look like one of the original character designs for Metaphor ReFantazio though, which was in early stages in 2015.
Bro the beta music hits so hard. They had no excuses to not drop them in the metaverse or music streaming services. I heard it was going to be a rather different game from how things turned out, wicked to see some of the ideas they where going for. I really love the proto animations and intro theme too! It really sets off the charm (though maybe reveals too much for new players?) I'm not even anime mad, I just got into P5 a few years back but i've a ton of appreciation for this genre now.
I would definitely love a mod that adds concept art Morgana in. The whole "monster cat" bit would make much more sense with him looking less like the average cutesy mascot.
hell yeah I absolutely adore unused/cut content left over or leaked out for us to dissect! I appreciate you putting full sprite pages for even the calendars and sharing placeholders too lol idc I wanna see it ALL! Take my sub dawg
I wanna download the beta's so bad, but after the Wolverine leaked build dmca scare, I'm afraid to download ANY leaked shit😭😭😭 The cons of having the hobby of loving early/cut content in media💔
afraid of what? the dmca stuff only goes after the leakers and distributors to try to scare them into not leaking things or to take them down, it doesn't target anyone who downloads the leaked content since that's impossible to enforce (for one, they have no way to actually track who downloaded it, but those who upload it are much easier to track, they contact the service it was uploaded to and request the uploader's ip address and other data if it's a paid server).
Incase anyone is wondering here’s what the place holder calling cards say (note that I used a translator and some context clues so it might not be exact) “When I appear, The countdown begins. When the clock points to zero, your shameful daily life will never be the same. Let us start the game. -The one who is searching for Justice” “Kaneshiro (or Okumura or Sae) Dummy Edition ※Sfant♪”
Seeing all the reused Catherine and Persona 4 assets is really interesting. In a lot of early builds studios will just reuse assets just for testing and placeholders. But on the other hand, this could hint at what their original idea was to roadtrip around Japan and meet old characters.
I think it emphasizes how close they’d planned the first release of p5, since Altus always references previous games in the next one - it was supposed to piggyback off of p4 and Catherine. Ending up with almost 10 years between them, I can see why they’d remove the bigger references
I wonder if the train conductor like shadow is a cut shadow for the scraped Akechi palace? cause like, its files in at least the og game (not sure if its still in Royal, any of the left behind stuff for this Akechi palace) the palace numbers internally have a spot in between Sae and Shido (Sae is like 57 and Shidos is 59 or something like that). there are some shadow hold up dialogue for a "Master Akechi" too. I don't think we know much about how it would look or work but still
How does Persona 5 have so much cut content? This and Royal is a bit insane. I think Royal should’ve kept some of the cut content but I can kinda see why so much was changed from the beta stuff.
Troubled development, the game was originally supposed to be about the phantom thieves changing hearts all across Japan or world, instead of just Tokyo, which explains the Nanako and Yukari models. Eventually the game was redone after the earthquake from 2011. I imagine a lot of games or movies made in Japan were changed thanks to that, just like how 9/11 changed games like GTA 3.
Very curious to notice that they had the opening video already done two years before release. This would explain the nonesensical skating routine that had no connection whatsoever with the actual game 🤣
It definitely has a different vibe compared to the final game, especially with how Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru seem like they have completely different personalities. I was surprised at how goofball they all ended up being, whereas Ryuji, Mona, and Ann were accurately cheery.
honestly part of me kinda hopes that they do some kind of directors cut of persona 5 that restores some of these elements older persona 4 characters sounds really freaking cool
The FEMC design is super interesting because there are unused voice lines talking about the p5 hero and his persona in persona 4 arena ultimax and Sho Minazuki (an original character for the game) looks almost exactly like a gender swapped version of the FEMC which makes me think he was possibly a tweaked version of the original design for Joker
Yeah after finding out they cut an early Joker from Ultimax and then seeing the concept art for the original two protagonists I feel like Sho was made from those early concepts before they ultimately chose the current Joker design instead. Especially since Sho looks similar to the cut FeMC and even current Joker to me rather than the art style of the 3/4 characters.
@@petergriscom3431 I mean I think Arsene definitely fits better than Mephistopheles, like the entire games plot is just one big Arsene Lupin reference lol
I really do think one person wanted the slapping but the rest of the team didn’t. And that’s why there’s so many iterations of that scene where they tone it down. Kinda like how P3 had that one beach dialogue and every subsequent game or adaption changed it. Like i totally get why Ann was upset but why the heck was everyone else unhappy?? lol
5:17 Is it just me or these portraits actually looks like the anime adaptation design? 6:32 I think this is the shot where they forced her to take drug.
I have so much admiration for that little project, even if most of it was taken from existing sources and edited to fit the project. AxP5 we're just so cool.
The middle development builds are way more interesting than near completion builds, there was already another build of the game that was dated Feb 25 which was 7 months before the final release. Also, the wolverine build was from very early in development, not in the middle, which is why it has a ton of missing graphics. GTA6 on the other hand, besides the debug menus the game looks like it's almost done
@deepflare128 1) you learn way more from a completed build as in development builds are usually disconnected assets and tests while later builds have everything put together. 2) leaks like this have a massive impact on development as the story is often spoiled, public perception is ruined and often employee data is leaked like in insomiacs case.
@@danielgrezda3339 1) Not really, there's barely anything different from the final game in most near completion builds. Besides debug mode and a couple of different scenes and unused graphics or even different music. The Pokemon Diamond and Pearl early build leaks are a prime example. There was barely a difference from the near final build to final build. While the very early January build had a ton of interesting stuff like early pokemon designs, early music and early graphics. 2) True, but that's not relevant in the case of Persona 5, as the game has already been released. Most of the time early builds are leaked from private sellers years after the game released, unlike Wolverine's case where private information of Insomniac's employees were leaked sadly. Seeing game builds leaked before the game has even released is a very rare event, but I fear it'll be more common in the future.

@@riv7797It still would've been cool to have two different kinds of strategist, especially since it fits with the Phantom Thieves' theme of butting heads like a *GREAT VALUE* Lupin's gang. Though it felt like they half-ditched the whole team roles thing by the time Noir joins.
Three simple words: We were robbed. Especially when it comes to Nanako, I'd love for Atlus to bring back older characters and Nanako is at the forefront of that even ignoring my love for P4. But hey, I'm a Hollow Knight fan who's waiting for Silksong still, a little more copium in my veins couldn't hurt.
A lot of what you saw it's typical stuff for development, for example the usage of those models and portraits of Persona 3 and 4 plus Catherine, when you don't have everything done, you just fill with stuff you have around if you are not going to show it to the public and it's just internal stuff. So for the next time, just ignore that kind of stuff and focus more on stuff like that new animations, that Sae palace was bigger, etc. You know the kind of stuff i mean.

She does look like one of the original character designs for Metaphor ReFantazio though, which was in early stages in 2015.
it could've also been a very early design for one of the social links that was used for testing
So much cool stuff
Imagine them having to animate a bunch of ppl beating up a boy who was formerly assaulted and disabled.
P5 is nuts.
Especially considering what he just went through to get you out of that palace alive. The P Thieves' group dynamic is downright cartoony.
the ryuji beat up scene was cleared from my mind until i saw the beta clip from a reddit notification and it just hurt my soul

1:37 This is like finding burn my dread beta
The OG Morgana concept art design and the unused FEMC design would be cool to be repurposed in fan content.
I would definitely love a mod that adds concept art Morgana in. The whole "monster cat" bit would make much more sense with him looking less like the average cutesy mascot.
the fact that the beta gameplay just looks like the nintendo switch port is hillarious lmao

I wanna download the beta's so bad, but after the Wolverine leaked build dmca scare, I'm afraid to download ANY leaked shit😭😭😭 The cons of having the hobby of loving early/cut content in media💔
can u explain the wolverine leak? i haven’t heard of it omg
afraid of what? the dmca stuff only goes after the leakers and distributors to try to scare them into not leaking things or to take them down, it doesn't target anyone who downloads the leaked content since that's impossible to enforce (for one, they have no way to actually track who downloaded it, but those who upload it are much easier to track, they contact the service it was uploaded to and request the uploader's ip address and other data if it's a paid server).
That is what VPNs are for pal
@@ShuckleII hes just talking about viruses. Its not some social issue, people are just paranoid about getting malware when downloading that shit
Incase anyone is wondering here’s what the place holder calling cards say (note that I used a translator and some context clues so it might not be exact)
“When I appear,
The countdown begins. When the clock points to zero, your shameful daily life will never be the same.
Let us start the game.
-The one who is searching for Justice”
“Kaneshiro (or Okumura or Sae) Dummy Edition ※Sfant♪”
I don't think we know much about how it would look or work but still
If I'm not mistaken, the spot at 8:23 is an entrance to Shinjuku station.
woow dat alpha tokyo emergency
How does Persona 5 have so much cut content? This and Royal is a bit insane. I think Royal should’ve kept some of the cut content but I can kinda see why so much was changed from the beta stuff.
Troubled development, the game was originally supposed to be about the phantom thieves changing hearts all across Japan or world, instead of just Tokyo, which explains the Nanako and Yukari models. Eventually the game was redone after the earthquake from 2011. I imagine a lot of games or movies made in Japan were changed thanks to that, just like how 9/11 changed games like GTA 3.
The unused FEMC design looks like Sho Minazuki from Ultimax
"Holy shit guys, holy shit, holy shit, holy fucking shit" -Is prolly the best yt intro I have ever heard.
THIS IS NOT A LEAKED BUILD, PLEASE DO NOT CONFLATE LEAKED BUILDS WITH DISCS BOUGHT ON THE AFTERMARKET

What if the train conductor shadow was supposed to be for akechi’s palace? A train palace just sounds like Akechi
I need that different version of the opening song as an mp3 or something, Yumi Kawamura is awesome
So jazz wasn’t invented in 2016,
BUT 2015!?
The female protagonist design looks like Sho Minazuki from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
That little animation for the metaverse app, i want it!
this video script flows like burning men's soul
That test animation might be what fusions originally were meant to be
honestly
part of me kinda hopes that they do some kind of directors cut of persona 5 that restores some of these elements
older persona 4 characters sounds really freaking cool

They already did a directors cut dude, it's called PERSONA 5 ROYAL. HOW ARE PEOPLE THIS BRAINWASHED INTO TRIPLE BUYING THE SAME GAME AT FULL PRICE?

4:44 is it just me or the scrapped femc looks like an early Tae Takemi?
8:24 this area is actually still in the files for the original game. At least in the PS3 non-Royal version
@@TREVORVADER He looks so much like the OG trailer Joker cut in with the shark teeth and more sinister design
@@KNXCKLE yeah
I'm still mad they never went through with making his starting Persona Mephistopheles. Arsene kinda fits, but in a very shallow surface-level way.
@@petergriscom3431 I mean I think Arsene definitely fits better than Mephistopheles, like the entire games plot is just one big Arsene Lupin reference lol
Someone needs to mod in that day change effect. You know, for those that partake.
Tae Takemi got caught slipping idk lmao
Why is this so unnerving. Im legit getting scared watching like beta footage of stuff. Very interesting tho
Still does not change its not cool they Slapped Ryuji whenever or not they toned it down
he din't deserve it :(
I really do think one person wanted the slapping but the rest of the team didn’t. And that’s why there’s so many iterations of that scene where they tone it down. Kinda like how P3 had that one beach dialogue and every subsequent game or adaption changed it.
Like i totally get why Ann was upset but why the heck was everyone else unhappy?? lol
Holy shit that’s the Persona 3 singer ain’t it 🔥
Catherine full body was the prototype I think or something for persona five so I’m not surprised that there’s some Catherine stuff still in the files

@@betuna9487for real dud.
Damnit, I've been thinking for a long time that they should bring back Nanako in adult form! They should have done it!
Hope we get more leaks of completed games and not games in the middle of development like the gta and insomniac leaks.
8:22 holy shit I'm not crazy, even before I became a persona fan I vividly remember seeing that place but when I played it wasn't there it's been bothering me for years
Wait, there was going to be a female protagonist?
And she has _red_ hair?
I guess P5 FemC walked so Kasumi could dance.
Originally sumire was supposed to be a mc or female but they completely changed her
I’d rather she had been FeMC so she could be contained to her own route instead of forcing her way into Joker’s.
Also cut FeMC resembles Sho Minazuki fron P4AU as well
@@TREVORVADER I like her character already I just wish she join a bit earlier she only joins at the final palace ik it’s pretty much about her

Man this stuff is crazy I could have never imagined seeing this stuff from the beta p5!
Average Persona 5 Fan Reaction
Kinda crazy that this is happening right before P3 Reload is coming out.
this beta music is fireeeeee
In the old version of the op, it doesn’t really even sound like Lyn, it almost sounds like yumi?
It _is_ Yumi Kawamura. They probably hadn't finished casting a vocalist, and got Yumi to do a placeholder while they were still writing the lyrics. You should look up the beta version of Burn My Dread, it went through a similar process, and it sounds kinda cool.
6:53 Yet no Shido calling card!!! I wonder that's the case???
The assets from P3, P4 and Catherine like characters, graphics or other things are placeholders.
The bongos make the sound more full
a lot of this looks more like placeholder art. i doubt they were seriously considering putting catherine and vincent in P5. though, a female protag would be cool! i wish they return to that idea in persona 6!
they were indeed placeholder art, never intended to be in the game. But it's cool that they used these characters
according to interviews persona 5 used to be a game where the crew traveled around the world.
I wonder if data about that is still in the beta.
that makoto pic is insane
The early versions of the ost are both cursed and also reslly nice sounding
literally made me sad that they didn't include hifumi as a member of the Phantom thieves. I don't mind extra hours in the game.
Hifumi herself wasn't meant to be a phantom thief, the party member would've been like Hifumi, a strategist, but this ended up becoming a part of Makoto, meanwhile their appearance became Hifumi's
@@riv7797It still would've been cool to have two different kinds of strategist, especially since it fits with the Phantom Thieves' theme of butting heads like a *GREAT VALUE* Lupin's gang. Though it felt like they half-ditched the whole team roles thing by the time Noir joins.
wonder if the yukari model got updated and was used in reload, looks quite different there though
probably just there for testing purposes
Three simple words: We were robbed. Especially when it comes to Nanako, I'd love for Atlus to bring back older characters and Nanako is at the forefront of that even ignoring my love for P4. She'd be a great party member in a game where she's grown up and this could've been a taste of that.
I hear ya but this video was meant to go over all the findings in the beta even the placeholders I also just think it's cool that they did that. But thanks for looking out!
@@Neglected_Nuggets Okay, i didn't know, i was more worry about people maybe thinking that this was suppose to be like a big Persona crossover at one point, because the developers played around with P4 protags model in the beginnings of development to get the looks right, etc.
@@micah0000 How much do you want to bet that, they not ever even you for the remakes, maybe for the dancing all night games, but i wouldn't put much stock into that, my best bet, they grab the old PS2 models played a bit in upgrading then and get the look they wanted and then proceed to use them for testing.
@@micah0000 Believe it or not, is cheaper to upgrade old stuff then wasting money on newers models, that if you don't know what you are doing or looking for, you may end up wasting more money on the newer models because you want to upgrade then. So they upgrade older models to have they look they wanted, then when they had everything on a level they through acceptable, created newer models for the game.
Cutting corners is important in any game development.
@@micah0000 No, again, you port assets from old games and give them a small upgrade, that's cheaper because you don't have to create the model from zero. As for why multiples, well, tell me do all the models look the same in P5? No, so you want to test the multiple kind of builds you will go for.
