trying a thumbnail and title change to see if it'll help boost the video's performance. i know it's provocative, so i'll make it clear right now that i don't think the game is bad. anyway's here's my patreon: www.patreon.com/bubbletea_
“ I don’t think the game is that bad even though I didn’t even finish it and have basically nothing good to say about it through the entire 20 minute video “ Provocative alright…
As a semi-fan of Tactica, I’d say that this review is pretty good. My only criticisms were you saying that “the trailers were mainly focused on gameplay which is not a good sign” correct me if i’m wrong, but don’t most trailers focus mainly on playing?
If you don't show something, you probably don't have a lot of confidence in it. Most people don't really mind if the story is cliched or poorly handled as long as the gameplay is engaging (see: the latest Fire Emblem game) on the contrary, the people who play for the story and don't care if the gameplay is bad are a small and... somewhat quiet minority.
6:41 Worst part is Strikers showed that these spin-offs CAN do more and CAN develop the Phantom Thieves in interesting ways. But here? Atlus settles for simplicity. The Phantom Thieves honestly aren’t even important in this story. They exist solely to serve the development of the new characters. I also honestly think, especially taking into account late game reveals, if you replace them with the Investigation Team, literally nothing would change.
@@allen2reckless676 Actually, I think that's only the Day 1 DLC. The main campaign happens sometime before the ending of Persona 5, but "Repaint Your Heart" happens during November.
I don't mind the story; predictable, but pretty charming. The tactical gameplay is where the game really shines, being a fun Tactical RPG that makes you do creative positioning to clear enemies fast with twists of well-known Persona mechanics is what intrigued me to play.
I think atlus planned to genuinely cook really fkn hard for the persona anniversary because of how insanely successful persona has been recently but plans changing + covid made things move around. The ports to all platforms shouldn't have been a big deal, p5t should've been out late last year, p3r we should've got early/mid this year and then then we get the party game and p6 late next year. Metaphor was supposed to be out like last year max but they obviously had some issues too which might've shifted around the internal launches for other stuff too. Now I see p6 getting revealed next year but being 2025. I also think the people complaining about not getting p6 yet aren't completely in the wrong, while i did look at the credits and find a loot of outsourcing, some of the p studio staff are there and were probably splitting their time between 5t, p3r and p6 so in a way they were probably some allocating resources. We will only know for sure when every game's credits are out though but it seems likely that a studio working on multiple projects would be, you know working on multiple projects lol... You say "neither side knows how game development works" then mention how atlus can work on multiple projects but still reject the notion that they might be splitting resources for some reason?
I think so too, there may have been a wrench that was thrown into the production because it doesn't make sense that we got what we got in the anniversary. I definitely believe they were gonna go down that path, cause it started off relatively strong with P4AU, and then the next one it was just an announcement for a concert, and it got to the point where they even removed the question marks for the reveals, as well as the final one which many people suspected would've been P6. I think the plan was p4au - concert announcement - p3-p5 modern ports - p5t - boring jp only announcement - p3r announcement - p6 teaser, also I just think Atlus is really small and they took on more than they could handle. I mean people forget that Atlus only has like 300 employees, and while Persona can be considered a AAA IP at this point, they don't have as much resources as other AAA studios do. While sure, they have sega's backing that's only for production the development and everything comes down to the 300-400 employees they have.
@@siuchaos2606 don't forget Atlus is avoiding the bad practice of revealing new projects too early. Considering what happened to the original Persona 5 and SMT5 first teasers, Atlus is not making the same mistake, even willing to hold back information despite the rumours. Recent projects like Soul Hackers 2, Tactica and Reload reveal that Atlus at least learned their mistake, in which games are best promoted, in between half a year to the confirmed release time period.
Imo cooking hard would be scrapping this game and the p5 mobile game and remaking P1 and 2 along with 3 or at least making a PQ3 with all the teams cuz I can’t get in a celebratory mood when the two games that started the series is just forgotten for dumbass reasons, 4 gets nothing to celebrate with and P5 gets like 3 new things all at once
For those still interested in trying this game out, its on sale. $19.99 for PS4/5, $17.97 for Nintendo Switch and $27.50 (for whatever reason) on the Series X.
Beat the game a few days ago. The interesting parts of the story don't really come until after Kingdom 1 (which is about 40% of the game for some reason) and most of the parts I liked didn't even involve the PTs. I actually liked the story more than I was expecting going in, but I can definitely see a lot of people losing interest pretty quickly. Kind of agree that most of the Talk dialogue isn't interesting, I only really payed attention in Kingdom 3 (you'd understand why if you played it)
6 mins into this review, and it really seems like either you've played this game on a bad day (or days), or you simply don't want any more persona 5 spinoffs, so that's making you go into the game with an already negative preconception or bias. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Sorry I had to re-edit the comment as I saw the whole review and the gameplay analysis was fine. However, in general BubbleTea has highlighted in the past he really doesn’t care about the spin-offs. So I’m unsurprised by his reaction against the story. The spin-offs are almost always an in-depth exploration of a single character rather than that of society itself often keeping the core themes and elements from the main series. Personally I think that makes for a well focused story that doesn’t need to intrude upon the mainline continuity while being true to what their respective games P3, P4 and P5 are about but compared to the mainline entries the stakes are substantially smaller. However I do think he is absolutely spot on about Persona 6. Tactica has no bearing on it and trying to outlay the blame for not being revealed yet is pretty petty.
@@bubbletea_Not really, I just re-watched the video and you didn't talk much about what you liked about the gameplay, the majority of that part was narrating how the game mechanics work. You did go into detail as to why you disliked the story and dialogue though, you didn't really explain why you liked the gameplay.
@@Gokuvsnaruto22Other than my vague threat I will say Buddy YOU JUST DESCRIBED HIS OPINION. Just cause it don't align with yours don't mean he didn't say it.
I have really enjoyed the game so far. I know the story isn’t the best but I ultimately bought this for fun tactical gameplay and that’s what I’ve gotten in spades. I know the maps aren’t visually striking per-say, however, the combat engagements themselves are really good at making you consider all of your options and how you can best tackle each enemy layout. I’m also glad it’s different from Devil Survivor too because it would have been a bummer if it was just stealing the thunder from Devil Survivor
Thank you!!! I've seen so many people think that Atlus is giving us this instead of Persona 6 which definitely isn't true. That's like being mad at Nintendo for announcing a new Fire Emblem game when you want a Mario game. They're still working on Persona 6. This is a different game worked on by a different team than p6, and if you don't like it, that's okay, mainline Persona games are still being worked on. As for p5t, I agree that the story is very predictable. But I do enjoy the gameplay and it's fun seeing the thieves again, so I've been enjoying my time with it so far ^^ I do hope that Atlus tries to advance the character arcs in some way in whatever the next persona spinoff is
You're not gonna enjoy the dialogue if the characters don't mean anything to you. It's not trying to be character-defining or groundbreaking; it's there for casual and funny interactions between the PT nothing about that is boring.
The phantom thieves do literally nothing new in their conversations that they literally have every single spin off game. Like it’s fine and works but it’s so stale
@@Spagbolisnotme Sure, it may not have the benefit of Q and Q2 (dancing as well) when it comes to unique character line-ups or Strikers emphasis on specific character pairs like Futaba & Yusuke, Ann & Ryuji or Makoto & Haru. However, all of the spin-offs are casual in nature, which only really dedicated fans to these specific characters enjoy. This is why you might think it's stale, but that doesn't make it stale or boring, It's unjustified criticism. The Game has other issues, but the Dialogue isn't one of them.
That's not what I said, I only said it's wrong to issue critique on something that the game doesn't have as its main focus. You can think whatever you want, but it's objectively good dialogue since it does what it sells.
"nobody asked for" is a big statement. I wanted this. As a fan of tactical games and a massive Persona fan, I was SO hyped for this and am currently on my 3rd playthrough. It is everything I wanted from an offcom/persona hybrid and I would love to see more from other Persona titles in the future.
While its definitely disappointing that they didn't go the Strikers route with this one, I still enjoyed Tactica quite a bit. The plot beats were pretty predictable but I like how it uses a lot of the themes and events of the base game and builds off of them to develop the new characters. Also the gameplay is fire I had a great time. (Maybe not worth $60 full dollars though ngl) Great video bestie keep it up ❤
In the Japanese version the Metaverse is straight up CALLED "Isekai". As in, the localizers translated "Isekai" to "Metaverse". Every time the word "Metaverse" is used in English, in Japanese they're using the word "Isekai".
Spoiler alert: All of the foreshadowing in this game is for nothing, Toshiro just remembers a bunch of traumatic events and then right at the pivotal moment he remembers that they actually had less bad outcomes then he thought. Him remembering things that already happened in the past are both the problems and solutions to the central conflict of the game. The game also teases that the revolutionaries might be bad guys in the 3rd kingdom and for a brief moment I had hope that there might be a chaos aligned final boss who was manipulating you towards revolution... But no, Yaldabouth 3 shows up to deliver a barely coherent straw man argument about why you must give up your free will, just in time to reaffirm the Phantom Thieves as of yet still unchallenged belief that that law and order is cringe, and violence and chaos are based 100% of the time.
I just eanna say the final cutscene with the final boss goes hard and really is probsbly the most action packed cutscene in the series outside of the anime adaptations and movies
I really enjoyed the story for this game~ Admittedly I wasn't expecting much but even so it was a good time I guess even if it is just the same ol' dialog, I like these guys and just seeing them hang out and do the dumb jokes again is nice~ Also I guess another aspect of this game I enjoy how it isn't really a story about the Phantom Thieves or what not, it is a more focused and personal story for one one character, which is an interesting way to do a spin off which I like. As you said we know the Phantom Thieves, so let's delve into someone else instead Of cause the issue there hinders on how much you like that person.
What I like about Atlus is that they take time to do their mainline games, especially persona, since that's what I follow, the reason why persona 5 has such a strong identity is because they took their time making it and it's been 7 years since persona 5 came out in the west, 8 years since it came out on japan, so if persona 6 is announced like this year or in 2025 with the release window being 1 year apart from when the trailer comes out, then I'll be happy, since I know that they worked that title until it was as polished as it could, after all that's what is special about the persona games, their strong identity and style. I don't think these spin offs are something they do solely for money or that they will delay the release of the next persona game, I think they are a means for atlus to toy with other genres while keeping us satisfied until persona 6 is ready to come out of the oven Plus I would rather wait for persona 6 to be revealed a year apart from when it can be released to what the persona fandom had to suffer with persona 5's release, from what I remember the game was announced in 2013 to be released in 2014, it was then delayed to 2015 and one more time to 2016 where it released only in japan, after that it was one more year of waiting for people outside of japan. Think what you will about kh3, but the game was announced and only received a release date around 2018 from what I remember, if the game was ever delayed it was a few months until it's release semi-globally in january 2019
I'll admit, the amount of P5 spinoffs we're getting is a bit... tiring, though as a tactics lover I like the idea of more tactics games. Also, I didn't know that they weren't including the female protagonist in the P3 remake, so I'll probably just play P3P instead, since that's also being sold on Steam. Plus, I can play that now instead of waiting.
I agree about the gameplay. Its pretty solid. As for the story, while it can be pretty predictable and the Phantom Thieves feel rather extraneous, I do think it picks up quite a bit around the Third Kingdom. Toshiro and Erina are the real heart of the story, and by the end of the game I really enjoyed them a lot. Toshiro in particular goes through a pretty good arc. Music and UI are pretty great too, but that's kinda to be expected for a Persona game at this point.
i reeeaaaally love the gameplay of Tactica. the story wasn't the strongest but i still really liked the game overall also, i feel like people act as if they don't always do spin-offs and it's just a persona 5 thing lol i really like how Atlus isn't afraid to shake up the game and use completely different gameplay styles and genres with the same characters we know and love. ^_^
Yeah I was pretty excited up to the very start of the second world, and I kind of rolled my eyes and realized it would probably be a rinse and repeat for the next however many worlds. I guess I hoped for more of a proper sequel than just a non-canon slice of life side story. (That's even what Strikers felt like for me, though.) Tactica feels like one of those One Piece movies that has nothing to do with the main plot and it's just an excuse for wacky hijinks and fun animation, which is great if you're more there for that than for the ongoing character development or whatever. If all you want P5T for is fun tactical combat and a great soundtrack, then it's pretty fantastic. Far less questionable than the repetitious grind of Q.
I don’t think ATLUS has ever done a good “sequel” type style story besides “The Answer”. I know a lot of ppl dislike it, but I found Arena and Strikers/Scramble more egregious writing wise in that vein. The Answer felt like a proper epilogue, and fit with how Royal’s 3rd semester went.
becoming a self fulifilling prophecy and skipping all flavour text and side dialogue just to complain that you had nothing to find interesting about the story as a whole while actively robbing yourself of 50% of the content is HILARIOUS to me
I'm guessing this review is a clash of expectations. Not all spin-offs can be of Strikers caliber. But when I went it as a novice of tactical games and a simple desire to see more Phantom Thieves interactions, I was quite satisfied with my experience. The first two Kingdoms delivered what I expected, in both gameplay and story. However, judging on your gameplay footage and how close your characters were to dying, I'm guessing you had a hard time passing the stages. Which would certainly be a hard, frustrating time... if you never use leverage. The Persona series was always a game that punished brute force playing and in-the-box-thinking. If you never utilized every trick in the book or exploited weaknesses mercilessly, the game will chew you up. I'm guessing that's why you view the gameplay unfavorably. I always had a blast making openings, picking the perfect position and causing enemies to fall like dominoes. The first two Kingdoms were full of those moments. And then we came to the Third Kingdom. That's when things got interesting. Here's a truth: P5 Tactica is not Joker's story; it's Toshiro's. His past gets revealed here and as a plot, it's pretty good. It was gratifying to see Toshiro grow from a knee-shaking coward to a man who has found his inner strength to face his inner demons, and he has plenty of them. Tactica's story renewed my appreciation of the Persona concept and using them to brave the trials and tribulations of the world. The fourth and final Kingdom while may be a little stale, was an opportunity to showcase Toshiro's growth. I loved the almost-poetic moments that arose from Toshiro joining the fray. The voicework and music was top-notch as always. The voice actors have not lost their touch and brought back our familiar Phantom Thieves we love so much (especially Akechi and Kasumi in the DLC), it's like they never left. The Lyn songs that played during ass-kicking missions and boss fights were amazing as usual. While Persona 5 Tactica would not be a game I replay over and over, it did give me what I want: more Phantom Thieves. As a spin-off, it delivered satisfactorily in that regard.
being done talking about the story in a video about a persona game 5 mins in is crazy. Props to you for making it to the second world tho, I beat the tutorial and never touched it again
Even if the story is derivative it's still very good and the gameplay is immaculate. When I first picked it up I thought it felt "more persona than persona" the mixture of guns and spells and tactics as well as the streamlined persona system made the whole thing feel like it achieved the persona (or perhaps specifically P5/Phantom Thieves) fantasy more accurately than the gameplay of all the other personas I've played. Contrast that to the gameplay in other games where you slowly check off each new enemie's resistances until you find the exploitable weakness.
Yeah I'll give it a shot, Persona 5 Tactica seems to be a game I like because I like the Persona Q games. And I like strategy games. Also adults in Persona games because Toshiro is a cool guy
Well said all around. I think the points about the fandom are very well put too, and are almost the same as what people seemed to be feeling for the lead up to Persona 5, many moons ago Spin-off fatigue is real, especially when this really does feel like PQ3, but this game is fun and well made, and it shouldn’t be confused with a replacement for P6. I don’t think I would’ve played this game if it wasn’t on Game Pass, but I’m certainly enjoying my time with it so far
It's certainly not on the same level to me as strikers, but its still welcome imo, especially as a reason for me to try a tactical game for my first time. Only one castle in, but its fun for the gameplay. If thats not what you want, i wouldnt advise it. Keeps my attention on the persona series in the time waiting for p3r tho
I wonder if you will enjoy the story (assuming you haven't finished it yet). I absolutely loved it and the direction it took by the end of the game. It really surprised me. I really liked that the phantom thieves were able to relate to Toshiro and push him forward. It felt like a story about Toshiro where the Phantom Thieves just helped him out and i didnt really mind that
5:54 this relates with me so much bubbletea im ngl i might be more biased to P3 then you might be literally I feel like P3 Is the best out of all the modern persona teams
Imma be honest. Ima huge Persona 5 fan. Got the Phantom Thieves edition of Royal and everything but I had no idea this game was already released. Heck I was under the impression this was the mobile game
Personally, my only complaint about Tactica is the somewhat lack of enemy variety By the start of the game, they introduce you to the 3 main kinds of enemies and then... it's mostly just that for the rest of the game. They eventually add more as you go, but if I recall correctly, the game has a total of 7 different enemies (one of which only appears on 1 stage) and half of them are not present in most of the levels. Besides that, I really enjoyed the game, it felt like a huge puzzle game with the way that effects (most of the time) are guaranteed and enemies have pattern behaviors that can be recognized and used to your advantage
I find P5T very fun, as a complete tactics game noob, who is now interested in seeing more of what they could offer. I also quite enjoy just seeing the PT be the PT in the dialogue scenes, so I have enjoyed that aspect quite a bit as well. That being said, the story is very much... expected... of a P5 spinoff at this point (at least as far as I have gotten thus far; I just beat Marie) and I do recall wishing that the revel of Marie's connection to Toshiro was a little more sprinkled out, or at least done more creatively, like how some of the better Palaces cleverly dolled out their ruler's cognition over the course of the dungeon. I don't dislike the story, it just doesn't feel like it expands the Phantom Thieves' story in a way that hasn't been explored before. Like, how Strikers' Jails and Monarchs showed the PT that some corrupt people are not too far gone yet, and introduced the idea of real redemption (as opposed to a forced change of heart) to the theming of P5. So far, it doesn't feel like anything new like that has been introduced in Tactica. Again, I have only just beaten Marie, so I may end up being wrong after seeing more of the story, but if I'm right, the game feels more like a fun time-killer to me that entices me to what stories could be told through a tactics game, rather than a huge storytelling achievement in and of itself. Either way though, I am still a fan of the game, as it is really fun, and I won't complain at another opportunity to see the Phantom Thieves. Overall, I see some of the disappointment, but for me it is a good and worthwhile game that should be given a chance.
Personally, I really enjoy the q series. It's been years since I played the person at 3 and personal 4 to the point that I Bailey remembered them because I was a small child when persona Q came out. That was the first time I really absorbed the game. Knowing how much people don't like those games. Kind of makes me sad because they're not bad. The music isn't bad. The story is you know. CC plus and this is coming from a fan. But doesn't mean anything. I understand people want focus and their stories and certain spin-off games. Kind of don't always hit the mark. But I might even lie to you after playing Royal. For a second time on the switch. I sometimes Miss just playing with these characters. I played soul hackers 2 and I got bored. It wasn't good. I played magami 5 and although I felt like a godd. The story just wasn't good enough. The characters wasn't good enough and a simple fact. I can sit down and play strikers. Q2 and this means that even though some games, main line or spin-off. Come out somewhere really enjoyable and some aren't. That shouldn't take away from the mainline or shouldn't take away from the spin-offs.
I think the sheer fact you mention you didn’t absorb P3-4 is why your opinion is so different. People didn’t like Q cuz of its writing. While there were some cool moments, the character writing wasn’t very strong. Which is something you seem to champion. Q is less about plot and more about the cast, so if the game fails in its character writing, ppl will dislike it. Since Q was your first time really absorbing the character writing, you found it better than ppl with the expectations of the quality of the previous games.
@@ma.2089 I could agree with that. I'm more or less. Enjoy all these games going back and playing P3 and P4. It means I enjoy more then. I guess I was just lucky.
@@ma.2089 which is why they maybe not a lot to talk about in Q2 along with it's release of the 3ds about to die which very rarely gets a convo but even though the plot is standard they got most of the character writing done well suprisingly after all the protein stuff in the previous games they actually got akihiko right for once
15:53 Nah, some staff members of P-Studio who did Persona 5 Tactica will do some roles in future P-Studio projects like one programmer of this game could work on Reload or Persona 6, or one artist or even one of the game planners.
it's 100 Australian dollars, so I wasn't going to buy it anyway, but I know that persona 6 is coming eventually, and any spinoff won't change that, so i honestly don't care if atlus wants to make more spinoffs, it makes them money, which makes them games. just imagine the budget increase for p6 when you think about how they're profiting from Royal, Strikers, this, and P3R. I don't really pay close attention to the spinoffs anyway, I only just bought strikers today because of the autumn steam sale it was 30 bucks. I want to support Atlus but the biggest problem I have with them isn't what games they make, it's how much they cost. I feel they'd get more people on board if their spinoff games were cheaper. I mean P4G cheap AF back when they dropped it on steam and it sold like hotcakes. I know releasing games onto consoles is expensive but surely they'd profit more if the games were cheap, they'd get more people on board with it.
I watched a no-commentary video of dialogue in this game that was like 10-20 minutes or so, and the characters felt straight up out of character. Like.... Futaba didn't make a single nerdy video game reference? Idk, they just lacked all their usual charm and flavor. I was honestly excited to see more just casual normal whatever interractions between the Phantom Thieves, but they just didnt feel like the Phantom Thieves in this. They lack soul.
It’s one thing to release a spinoff. It’s another to release the 4th spinoff of the same game without just admitting you want to make a sequel. Just fkn do it Atlus. We don’t mind another Joker story while waiting for P6. Trust me.
As a big fan of both the Disgaea and Persona series, I was actually really looking forward to playing this game when it was announced. Wasn't super hyped, but it was on my list. After playing through it, it's a nice game. Not too serious, but also not braindead. The gameplay was fun and rewarding whenever I got 3 stars on a level. Made me think a lot towards the latter half of the game on how I wanna position everyone to take out the enemies in as few turns as possible. The side quests were also fun puzzles that I actually felt accomplished after completing. The story isn't too deep or groundbreaking, but it was nice and a good break from the other deeply invested stories I've been playing through. My only real complaint was that the personas felt as if they had no real impact and it didn't matter which ones you equipped on anyone since I was mainly using everyone's core moveset anyway. I had no real incentive to fuse and unlock as many personas as I could because they were all so bland and not impactful. Overall, it's a fun little game that can be completed in a few days and will have you appreciate it more if you've already completed the original P5. A good buy imo. Been wanting to play through it again sometime once I buy the DLC. Recommend if you want something short and sweet that can easily be replayed every now and then without having to invest too much time into it.
The thing that bother me the most is the time and resources spent on all these Persona spinoff games could have been used to give more turn based RPGs(especially Megaten/SMT) both new and old(HD remasters/remakes).
I don't think game development is easy; I just think they're overblowing the overall amount of time and money that would go into FEMC route. The time part should be relatively smooth given the new unique animations would be almost exclusively for Kotone, while meeting spots and hangouts can be easily reused and repurposed. The money I could maybe understand, if the voice actors are burning their money. Since they're making new dialogue for every FEMC social link rank. The idea that it would take tremendously more time for a triple A studio to make the necessary additions though would indicate poor time management, and it being significantly more costly than Episode Aigis either indicates extreme cost bloat, or that is the single worst advertisement for episode Aigis they could have ever stated. "We put less money into this than new animations for one character, voicework and a few unique social link scenes, and replacing a lot of blue with pink. Are you excited for Episode Aigis yet?" As for the idea of Tactica taking man power away from Persona 6, by technicality it does. Of course they have separate teams working on it. Though theoretically they could have a larger single team had they not had a team working on a spinoff no one asked for with an ugly artstyle that looks cheap, rather than minimalist or stylized. People understand a different team worked on Tactica, but that doesn't change the fact by technicality that's manpower that could be assisting Persona 6 while working on 5 Tactica. The specifics really don't matter to the consumer. The exact reasons why which people were assigned to which team, why they divided the work up the way they did for a spinoff they thought would be much more successful. From the consumer's perspective, 5 Tactica is an unwanted unimpressive spinoff that had time, money, and effort put into it. Time many consumers would rather have into Persona 6, or even a more expected spinoff, like a continuation of the arena games with Persona 5 included. At the end of the day, people are perfectly within reason to be disappointed that the remake of Persona 3 was given budget and time constraints that makes it feel mismanaged, like a lot of Triple A projects are. Somehow pouring money into the ether. While also being perfectly within reason for being disappointed by Tactica's mediocre existence, and feeling that it was time and money well wasted.
what I think about P5T is that, since, from the announcement of P3R to its release was a time period of 6 months, P5T was like an appetizer to calm down the P3R hype, like "yeah, take this, entertain yourself with it and let us cook"
It might not be the one you're interested in, but the one that plays during the Atlus bit at the very beginning of the video is the Village Theme of Lufia: Fortress of Doom
Maybe I’m out of place, but I think both Atlus and Persona fans have a lot to gain by just releasing a P5R sequel as opposed to… what? The 5th spinoff?? I mean, I understand that devs want linear stories without putting too much emphasis on any one game, but at this point, it’s obvious that Atlus is trying to bankroll off the success and popularity of P5 without actually producing anything of value. Would it really be taboo to have a full blown sequel and push Persona 6 out maybe 4 or 5 more years? I think everyone has a lot to benefit. Persona fans can get more content, and Atlus can easily sit back knowing that any P5R sequel would pull in both numbers and a ton of new fans. Then you release P6. Not only (in my opinion) is Persona 5 Royal an amazing game with great characters and a good story, but you can easily justify a sequel with how both vanilla and royal ended, plus with how astonishingly popular Joker and the Phantom Thieves are (Joker is in Smash… he’ll have longevity regardless of if Atlus continues his story or not!) Plus, it would be nice to see Sumire come back as a character since I felt her story arc was rushed and cluttered into the end of Royal. I don’t believe she’s been in any spinoffs either. Perfect opportunity. Rest assured, we’ll be seeing more Joker for sure, either in an actual sequel or a Persona 5 themed board game at some point…
@@lxkn0745 bruh.. "Royal" was just basically the same game with extra content, an expansion really. Strikers is the sequel to the game which is confirmed so there's no way around it plus it takes place after p5.
@@kolz4ever1980 Royal was far from the same game. And Strikers is basically Vanilla with “extra content” and “extra characters,” so you could even just say Royal and Strikers are practically the same game… lol. I guess by your definition that Tactica makes this a trilogy then?
@@lxkn0745 damn we really had to play different games. Where do I get your version of royal that doesn't start the same way, have the same goody goody teens fighting the big mean adults, and just had extra stuff added to what was the base game? I'll go buy that now since tatica doesn't look that grand.. 😆
Love the honest review that you do that does not sugarcoat things. I finished Persona 5 Tactica. I liked the gameplay and some of the songs, but the story was rather boring.
I remember seeing this game revealed, going “oh cool a spinoff that’s not Arena or Q”, clicking off of the video and going about my day, trying it on Game Pass and going “this sure is one of the games of all time” and putting it down after a few hours. I’m generally more forgiving of Persona spinoffs; I hate rhythm games in general because I ain’t got that shit but I really liked P3D in particular despite a lot of people saying it’s awful compared to P4D, for an example, but this game just wreaks of “the Persona 5 milk is starting to expire”
I absolutely love turn based tactics games. I've played about 10 different Fire Emblems, I play competitive Advance Wars and dabbled into several other turn based tactics games as well. I would have bought Tactica on day 1 if it wasn't for the Chibi art style, but as of now I still haven't tried it. Does anyone like this art style?
I mean the art style is fine. People have such a weird hate boner for chibi models and art styles but P5 tactica's artstyle and direction is good. It's coherent. characters are distinct and the models are well constructed and animated. Colors pop and the simpler artstyle makes the gameplay simpler to parse, especially with how Tactica focuses on positioning as the central mechanic. It's funny that they dunk on p5 tactica when p5's animation is wonky as hell and the character models are atrocious (Ryuji's face with the fish face proportions still crack me up. I hate his 3d model).
I think you're misinterpreting the whole situation with "people wanting persona 6". I don't think people are actually expecting persona 6 to come in place of tactica. We're just tired of persona 5 and it's cast as it's all we've had for the past 8 years. It's kinda like how atlus milked persona 4 when that came out.
I feel like one of the major problems with the game is that you are stuck in the first kingdom for what feels like half the game. The reason this is a problem is that the story picks up later in the game and becomes good and to peoples points in the comments, people won’t stick around that long if the story doesn’t pick up usually. It’s not a bad thing, but it feels like watching a show/series and everyone says it will become good on episode 20 or the movie gets good in the last 30 minutes. I’m not here to watch the end of the movie or series, equivalent to eating the last piece of cake I’m here to enjoy the entire cake or movie for what it is. This is just my opinion here though, I’m open to hear others and thank you for listening to my Ted talk 🤣
I wonder if I should give it a shot... I mean, I like tactical RPGs, but I've got tons of those. I love the story and character interaction aspects, so if those are out of the way I might skip. Thanks!
I'm a guy who loves tactical RPGs, but even I walked away with only a slightly positive opinion. Worth playing, without a doubt, but in my opinion, too mechanically deep for what it is. Not to say it's super complicated or anything, just more complicated than it's worth, the engagement factor isn't particularly high. I love Erina, Toshiro's cool, and it's well written, even if simplistic. Marie is a really good first boss, but the rest are underwhelming, with the second one being a particular low point. It's the Okumura fight, mixed with Iblis (Sonic/Shadow) from Sonic 06, just plain bad. I do absolutely love Joker's blank stare, occasionally broken by a dumbass nod though
I was kinda interested on the game but they decided to release it as a full AAA game price on my third world country and there's no way I can pay for that AND Persona 3 Remake so I guess I will have to wait for a big discount on it.
I got effectively softlocked on one of the first missions because I chose the wrong skills. I gave up there and uninstalled. Glad it was on gamepass and I didn't have to worry about losing my money's worth.
I agree with you in the sense that the writing is boring and predictable. However, you are wrong when you hypothesize that a spinoff such as Tactica is not diverting from Persona 6. P3R and P5T are precisely diverting time, resources and capital from the development of new IPs. Perhaps there is a sub-division of P-Studio that is diligently working on P6, but we know that the big 3 (Soejima, Meguro and Hashino) have been making an entirely new IP in the interim, so P-Studio has no excuses. Atlus is not necessarily as bad as Rockstar games milking Gta 5 for 10 straight years, but if this trend continues, they will be guilty of the same greed and incompetence.
persona 6 is likely being developed by p-studio and metaphor is being developed by studio zero. there is no way metaphor or the absence of katsura hashino and co (who have passed on the torch and aren't even leading any persona projects anymore) are getting in the way of p6's development.
I'm not saying that Metaphor is getting in the way of what P Studio does or doesn't do, although the split of talent is itself a bit concerning for the quality of future Persona games. All I'm saying is that the current industry trend is to divide and conquer. Well, that is not an effective strategy. It's kind of like how most people would express dissatisfaction with RE3R being short, which is directly correlated to a smaller dev cycle. It's noted that it was only after the conclusion of RE3R that those devs then joined in on completing and polishing RE4R, which provided much needed support in achieving higher quality that the project demanded. It's just not possible for all these games to being in production simultaneously and expect them to be finished on time and on budget. It's especially silly for this to be the strat when they continue to put out games no one asked for. P3R is unnecessary, but if it serves as a tech demo for the eventual P6, maybe it can be justified. Stuff like Tactica would have been served better if they didn't bother.@@bubbletea_
BubbleTea: "All of your party members are taken-" Me: "Cool" BubbleTea: "-except Morgana" Me: "Not cool." I want Atlus to stop pushing Morgana as the mascot of Persona 5
if im being honest, tactica was better than strikers and highly underrated. i was one of the very few people who was hyped by this game, mainly cuz of the gameplay looking like a lot of fun, but the story was actually way better than what i was expecting. toshiro became a fav cuz of the story, but also the comedy he gave, and erina i knew i was going to love from the start and that hasnt changed. there r some flaws with the game, i wasnt much of a fan for the second boss fight in particular, and while i also enjoyed the dlc, i do agree it shouldve just been part of the base game as something extra to play after the main story (thankfully, i did get it off of gamepass so i only had to pay for the dlc anyway). i will agree that its not much in character defining for the phantom thieves, but i would say its kinda the point as we already know the phantom thieves. it was erina's and toshiro's game and they were great additions to the series. overall, p5t is now my fav p5 spinoff, and 2nd fav overall persona spinoff
This was super interesting to watch because while I love P5, I hate SRPGs, so I was never gonna buy this game. So your opinion is actually very valuable to me in that regard.
Its so weird that everyone is normally so keen on getting the original experiences and dogging on the added content of rereleases like Marie and Alex, but then in Persona 3 for some reason the sentiment is the exact opposite? When folks like me point out that we prefer the game to be focusing on the original Persona 3 narrative and not including all this weird baggage like Answer and FeMC (with her borderline pedophilic social link with Ken everyone seems to neglect to mention when they bring her up), everyone reverts to simple brain "MORE EQUALS BETTER"
It’s cuz P3 could have more than what they originally had. So much content has been released after the original that would be cool to include so long as it doesn’t contradict what’s going on. Heck, I’d be into them delaying a certain reveal so that we could get more of a Ken and Shinji dynamic going like how the movies did it (and maybe trying to add more of that movie content into the game to flesh it out more so we get a good mix). And the Answer is good as an epilogue but could be even better, and would benefit from the reimagining/remake. Also, these games have always had grooming & pdf files. Getting to be one isn’t as surprising but I also think they’d rewrite it just like they’re rewriting the girl SLs for no forced romance. Ppl see this game as a chance to fix a lot of issues plaguing the series, like combining the better/missing portable writing and what not. Regardless, ppl will dog on the new content when it comes out. They did for The Answer too. A lot of ppl still hate it and are saying they’re happy it’s excluded (despite it also definitively confirming the ending of P3 will never be reversed). So the ppl you’re talking about aren’t always the same ppl too.
@@ma.2089 but we know from experience, even with Persona 3 specifically, that the added extra content is basically always a miss. P5R is the exception not the rule. Yall try to simultaneously act like you truly love P3 but also that P3 isn't enough for yall. More isn't always better. I replayed P3F after the announcement and I hated the Answer more than ever. You don't keep piling on extra shit to a masterful piece of art just for the sake of it. Nothing is perfect, therefore your argument of "it could theoretically be better than the original" applies to literally anything. You neglect to account for the likelihood of these wanton additions actually improving the art (not likely) versus the potential of ruining it (a hell of a lot more likely)
Because 1: a lot of the “P3 fans”are purely fans from when they’re kids. They haven’t touched P3 in a long ass time so their views are skewed to remember it way more fondly. Actually ye that is the main reason. The answer ruins the story but because a lot of the loud P3 enjoyers played it they don’t want to admit it’s bad, same with femc. As for the others a lot of them never actually touched P3 so they’re just yelling out of their ass
I think you were a bit over critical with the story cause let’s not act like the main story of the main series (3-5) were incredibly deep and unpredictable. If exclude social links cuz spin offs don’t have them, all plots seem pretty cookie cutter to me. As for the gameplay, as someone that loves fire emblem and xcom, I think it’s really good and I wish some of the features will be stolen by other strategy games. I love how very Persona it is, which makes it unique from other games of similar genre, and honestly it’s my fave spin off so far and hope they keep making more sequels
True p5 really didn't have the most in depth grip pulling stories. Just a bunch of emo teens that Are self righteous being goody goody against the mean grown adults. That's it. 😂
@@kolz4ever1980 yeah and there's not wrong with that cause it's not like it was a bad storyline, it just wasn't amazing. The plot twist was also predictable but I will say I love how the game was very self aware of it so it made Joker and the crew more appealing to me
im a fan of P5T, mainly for the story and how it utilizes existing stories to boost this one's. sure, its predictable (i would say extremely so by the late game? since i honestly managed to predict most of the ending while i was playing lmao) especially with its main story beats, but i appreciate the fact that the game does take the chance to do some things better than say, P5S some spoilers for P5T and P5S below im not sure of Q's story, since i havent played it, but in regards to P5S; i like the fact that P5T utilizes Yusuke's and Futaba's characteristics to help Toshiro's character reach some realizations, unlike in P5S where Makoto is the one talking to Akane about her mother/Aoi's death when Yusuke or Futaba makes more sense. then there's also the way P5T handles Toshiro's Awakening. it feels to me like a mix of P4's general awakenings and P5S' Zenkichi's Awakening; Toshiro is confronting his Shadow, and his Persona actively and directly talks to him (for Zenkichi, this is his "Shadow") overall, i like the video! i may not agree with it fully, but i love hearing about others' commentary about P5T, neat work!
Tbf except for a fighting game I’ve never heard anyone say they wanted persona spin offs in the first place. This is extra bad though cuz it was announced along with the 20th anniversary stuff and instead of us giving us things that celebrate the entire series we get like 2-3 persona 5 only things then p3. That’s my main gripe with this game is that it’s supposed to celebrate the series yet doesn’t. It’s gameplay is also dirt easy for an SMT game and it’s story is nothing really special. If I was atlus I would’ve scrapped this and just made PQ3 where all 5 games groups join In for a massive reference heavy adventure to actually celebrate the SERIES and not just P5
Probably because it is much easier writing wise and so the new character doesn’t use that experience to tell everyone else about how things work making things much easier and a much shorter journey. Quick answer: Easier for writers
I was really looking forward to tactica. The art style change was not what i wanted, but i have been hoping for a good tactics game recently and Persona 5 themed? Sign me up. But man, i just could not get into it.
the apologism for leaving out the feMC was pretty dumb, I don't buy for a second that adding her would be any significant undertaking that remaking the entire game wasn't already. it's sad to see people defend this and even funny when you claim other people don't understand game development. jesus.
probably not. i don’t have too much interest in covering older spinoffs. not cuz they’re bad or anything, rather i just don’t have anything to add to the discussion.
trying a thumbnail and title change to see if it'll help boost the video's performance. i know it's provocative, so i'll make it clear right now that i don't think the game is bad.

As a semi-fan of Tactica, I’d say that this review is pretty good. My only criticisms were you saying that “the trailers were mainly focused on gameplay which is not a good sign” correct me if i’m wrong, but don’t most trailers focus mainly on playing?
If I see a trailer that doesn't focus on gameplay, thats a huge red flag.
Yeah, usually it's if the trailers show barely any gameplay that it's a bad sign, never heard the inverse of that before now.
yea that was a really weird take imo
@@knightofblackfyre7950 lol seriously, not sure how he boarded that train of thought.
Not to mention the game is a T rating, aiming for children. That is not how the Persona series is all about.
To be fair strikers is canon to the story. While this game happens mid persona 5 royal story so essentially this game’s story is not canonical.

People really expects that this game were a goty or something I don´t know, the game is fun af, as a tactical RPG player
A spinoff no one asked for but one i am very happy exists i loved Mario + Rabbids and i love persona there take on it was really cool
@@vanessachowjiaying4423 I still can't believe how long we had to wait between P4 and original P5. The suffering...

Gamepass gave us P3R and I absolutely loved it! It also have this game so I'll have to yo-ho! yo-ho! P5R so I can play this one legally later
Tactica has no bearing on it and trying to outlay the blame for not being revealed yet is pretty petty.
if you watch past those 6 minutes i talk way longer about what i liked about the game.
@@bubbletea_Not really, I just re-watched the video and you didn't talk much about what you liked about the gameplay, the majority of that part was narrating how the game mechanics work. You did go into detail as to why you disliked the story and dialogue though, you didn't really explain why you liked the gameplay.

The game starts getting really good around the third Kingdom, trust me. It's got some nice twists you probably won't see coming

But I do enjoy the gameplay and it's fun seeing the thieves again, so I've been enjoying my time with it so far ^^
I do hope that Atlus tries to advance the character arcs in some way in whatever the next persona spinoff is
You're not gonna enjoy the dialogue if the characters don't mean anything to you. It's not trying to be character-defining or groundbreaking; it's there for casual and funny interactions between the PT nothing about that is boring.

(Maybe not worth $60 full dollars though ngl) Great video bestie keep it up ❤
Considering how many times persona characters have been taken to other worlds do you think we can start calling this series an Isekai?
In the Japanese version the Metaverse is straight up CALLED "Isekai". As in, the localizers translated "Isekai" to "Metaverse". Every time the word "Metaverse" is used in English, in Japanese they're using the word "Isekai".
@@ericriley1985 That's really interesting!
Spoiler alert:
All of the foreshadowing in this game is for nothing, Toshiro just remembers a bunch of traumatic events and then right at the pivotal moment he remembers that they actually had less bad outcomes then he thought.

I don't think these spin offs are something they do solely for money or that they will delay the release of the next persona game, I think they are a means for atlus to toy with other genres while keeping us satisfied until persona 6 is ready to come out of the oven
Plus I would rather wait for persona 6 to be revealed a year apart from when it can be released to what the persona fandom had to suffer with persona 5's release, from what I remember the game was announced in 2013 to be released in 2014, it was then delayed to 2015 and one more time to 2016 where it released only in japan, after that it was one more year of waiting for people outside of japan.
Music and UI are pretty great too, but that's kinda to be expected for a Persona game at this point.
i reeeaaaally love the gameplay of Tactica. the story wasn't the strongest but i still really liked the game overall
also, i feel like people act as if they don't always do spin-offs and it's just a persona 5 thing lol
i really like how Atlus isn't afraid to shake up the game and use completely different gameplay styles and genres with the same characters we know and love.
Hey I know you
It's a Megaten tactics game. I was very much asking for this
pffft
@@DuskyDark4175 yeah
becoming a self fulifilling prophecy and skipping all flavour text and side dialogue just to complain that you had nothing to find interesting about the story as a whole while actively robbing yourself of 50% of the content is HILARIOUS to me
The two new party members, sae's twin and elvis
As a spin-off, it delivered satisfactorily in that regard.
now let´s wait for Persona 5 Phantom X wich is coming this year and hope that they make Persona 6 after
being done talking about the story in a video about a persona game 5 mins in is crazy.
All they had to do was set this game after Strikers and I would maybe care. That is all they had to do
Yeah I'll give it a shot, Persona 5 Tactica seems to be a game I like because I like the Persona Q games. And I like strategy games. Also adults in Persona games because Toshiro is a cool guy
Keep up the great work man 👍
More gameplay focused sounds cool ta me,
I more of a gameplay focused player.
Me personally. Best Spinoff in the series
Well said all around. I think the points about the fandom are very well put too, and are almost the same as what people seemed to be feeling for the lead up to Persona 5, many moons ago
Spin-off fatigue is real, especially when this really does feel like PQ3, but this game is fun and well made, and it shouldn’t be confused with a replacement for P6.
I don’t think I would’ve played this game if it wasn’t on Game Pass, but I’m certainly enjoying my time with it so far
What song is playing in the background during "the boring dialogue" chapter?
Is that sonic spinball music in the early part of the video? Based man
Imma be honest. Ima huge Persona 5 fan. Got the Phantom Thieves edition of Royal and everything but I had no idea this game was already released. Heck I was under the impression this was the mobile game
Personally, my only complaint about Tactica is the somewhat lack of enemy variety
By the start of the game, they introduce you to the 3 main kinds of enemies and then... it's mostly just that for the rest of the game.
So you hide behind flexible walls in this game? Sounds like your lifestyle!
Atlus gave you the game for free because almost nobody is buying Tactica
Fr, unless it goes on sale. I love persona 5 Tactica but that AAA 70 dollar price tag is way too much
Thanks bubbletea, I wasn't really sure on this game and now I know to play other things first
15:53 Nah, some staff members of P-Studio who did Persona 5 Tactica will do some roles in future P-Studio projects like one programmer of this game could work on Reload or Persona 6, or one artist or even one of the game planners.
Its not "they could've given us persona 6" they could've allocated this team to something actually fuxkin interesting
it's 100 Australian dollars, so I wasn't going to buy it anyway, but I know that persona 6 is coming eventually, and any spinoff won't change that, so i honestly don't care if atlus wants to make more spinoffs, it makes them money, which makes them games. just imagine the budget increase for p6 when you think about how they're profiting from Royal, Strikers, this, and P3R.
Day one DLCs shouldn’t be a thing
Trust me.
So another strikers, which is good.
This is seriously one of my favorite games of all time. I absolutely loved it.
love this game so far. It's more like Mario + Rabbids, so be ready for that type of game. 👍🏻
What song at 5:20
The thing that bother me the most is the time and resources spent on all these Persona spinoff games could have been used to give more turn based RPGs(especially Megaten/SMT) both new and old(HD remasters/remakes).
Are you excited for Episode Aigis yet?"
As for the idea of Tactica taking man power away from Persona 6, by technicality it does.
What track is playing at the beginning of the video? Sonic spinball?
yeah. toxic caves.
It might not be the one you're interested in, but the one that plays during the Atlus bit at the very beginning of the video is the Village Theme of Lufia: Fortress of Doom
I don't appreciate being called out in the thumbnail. The original upload thumbnail wasn't like this.
Any Fire Emblem fans reviewed this game? Need to know if it’s a RPG on a grid like Final Fantasy Tactics or actual tactical game like Fire Emblem
What song did you use in 16:00
It’s the File Select Music from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and/or Sonic & Knuckles.
@@SeraphicSaint Thanks
Maybe they'll fix it in Persona 5 Tactica Royal Ultimate Edition.
There's already a p5 sequel though.
@@kolz4ever1980 Not a royal sequel though. Doesn’t make since if Akechi, Sumire, and Maruki aren’t in it.
Maybe someone in Japan asked for it, maybe the P5 fanboys, maybe ATLUS just wanted to milk it a bit more
I remember seeing this game revealed, going “oh cool a spinoff that’s not Arena or Q”, clicking off of the video and going about my day, trying it on Game Pass and going “this sure is one of the games of all time” and putting it down after a few hours.
No.
This could have been a new Devil Survivor.
I'm replaying both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment and having so much more fun that I did with this £50 game.
Maybe. But I still enjoyed it.
Thanks!
Did you see that shinji?
Tactica!
I got this on game pass it was….fine wouldn’t pay full price for it no way
I was kinda interested on the game but they decided to release it as a full AAA game price on my third world country and there's no way I can pay for that AND Persona 3 Remake so I guess I will have to wait for a big discount on it.
BubbleTea: "All of your party members are taken-"
Me: "Cool"
BubbleTea: "-except Morgana"
Me: "Not cool."
I want Atlus to stop pushing Morgana as the mascot of Persona 5
I mean, Morgana is literally the main character of persona 5. The player character is just morgana's escort.
if im being honest, tactica was better than strikers and highly underrated. i was one of the very few people who was hyped by this game, mainly cuz of the gameplay looking like a lot of fun, but the story was actually way better than what i was expecting. toshiro became a fav cuz of the story, but also the comedy he gave, and erina i knew i was going to love from the start and that hasnt changed. there r some flaws with the game, i wasnt much of a fan for the second boss fight in particular, and while i also enjoyed the dlc, i do agree it shouldve just been part of the base game as something extra to play after the main story (thankfully, i did get it off of gamepass so i only had to pay for the dlc anyway). i will agree that its not much in character defining for the phantom thieves, but i would say its kinda the point as we already know the phantom thieves. it was erina's and toshiro's game and they were great additions to the series.
overall, p5t is now my fav p5 spinoff, and 2nd fav overall persona spinoff
They never played Persona 3, that's the thing. That's why they can say shit like "NEED FEMC" despite her basically being P3's Marie lmao.
I see Persona 3 doesn't attract the most likable people around.
The plot twist was also predictable but I will say I love how the game was very self aware of it so it made Joker and the crew more appealing to me
Can't wait for persona 6
im a fan of P5T, mainly for the story and how it utilizes existing stories to boost this one's. sure, its predictable (i would say extremely so by the late game? since i honestly managed to predict most of the ending while i was playing lmao) especially with its main story beats, but i appreciate the fact that the game does take the chance to do some things better than say, P5S
some spoilers for P5T and P5S below
im not sure of Q's story, since i havent played it, but in regards to P5S; i like the fact that P5T utilizes Yusuke's and Futaba's characteristics to help Toshiro's character reach some realizations, unlike in P5S where Makoto is the one talking to Akane about her mother/Aoi's death when Yusuke or Futaba makes more sense. then there's also the way P5T handles Toshiro's Awakening. it feels to me like a mix of P4's general awakenings and P5S' Zenkichi's Awakening; Toshiro is confronting his Shadow, and his Persona actively and directly talks to him (for Zenkichi, this is his "Shadow")
overall, i like the video! i may not agree with it fully, but i love hearing about others' commentary about P5T, neat work!
If I was atlus I would’ve scrapped this and just made PQ3 where all 5 games groups join In for a massive reference heavy adventure to actually celebrate the SERIES and not just P5
why does every persona spinoff include a character that doesnt know who they are or has dementia
Probably because it is much easier writing wise and so the new character doesn’t use that experience to tell everyone else about how things work making things much easier and a much shorter journey.
Quick answer: Easier for writers
This game is so goddamn good for strategy/tactics RPG fans.
I was really looking forward to tactica. The art style change was not what i wanted, but i have been hoping for a good tactics game recently and Persona 5 themed? Sign me up. But man, i just could not get into it.
the apologism for leaving out the feMC was pretty dumb, I don't buy for a second that adding her would be any significant undertaking that remaking the entire game wasn't already. it's sad to see people defend this and even funny when you claim other people don't understand game development. jesus.
Will you make persona 5 strikers review?
probably not. i don’t have too much interest in covering older spinoffs. not cuz they’re bad or anything, rather i just don’t have anything to add to the discussion.
