Excellent review, as an avid fan of Dungeon crawler games, this game and the expansion has pride of place on my shelves. Your review was very fair and clearly explained, nice one 👍
Very very nice review, I really enjoyed watching. I can't imagine what it would've been with the full review!! You mentionned that there is no cards for the character specific equipment but there is an equipment pack deck that can be purchased seperately (I agree that it should've been included in the base game but the fact that it is available is still nice). Regarding the book keeping, you can use health trackers similar to the ones in Gloomhaven to help track the vita and power points. There is also a Folklore Android app that can really make all the book keeping easier.
Is there a good place you'd recommend to buy that equipment pack deck? Im considering to start buying this game and collect all the different expansions. I dont buy a lot of games at all because i don't find too many that hold my interest or that i can find a lot of people to play. Thanks, if you took the time to answer.
I agree with the point SO MUCH about having a game that comes with standees to start. I hope other publishers are taking note. I got it to see if I like it, and if I go crazy loving it I can look into figures. But overall, for me, gameplay is more important than minis. I watched this, then played the game some, and watched it again. I agree with all of the points. I did not juggle everything new with the initiative board right away from Fall of the Spire, but I will keep at it. I am also trying to let go of my usual feeling of wanting the play the game exactly as intended, and just have fun with it. It is a lot of stats to juggle, as noted. And when do I transfer day and night with leadership token? Can I swap weapons mid battle? I still do not remember, but I get going and I am having fun again.
Nice review. I have all 3 boxes plus all the minis and the inventory card pack, but I have yet to find time to paint any and try it out. It looked really cool when I first pledged for it, but now it seems kind of outclassed by Middara and most of the other big games I have on the way like Aeon Trespass Odyssey, Oathsworn, and Vampire the Masquerade Chapters just to name a few.
An enjoyable review, thank you! I have the three boxes, core plus 2 expansions, and have played 80% of the core, 4 characters with 2 players. Really liked the story and viewed the percentile dice as d10 with tweaks, so that was fine. Thought there was definitely a lot of bookkeeping but where we struggled a bit was slowly losing health (vita?) over the course of the campaign so our characters became weakened. They sort of hit a worn out road block towards the end and we were tempted just to heal them up but we moved onto another game. I really must try it again, and at least finish the base story, as the game is, overall, great fun. I’d be interested to hear if others had this problem, or maybe we just played very poorly!
I had gotten a warning about being careful about managing health, so I have been super careful so that did not happen to me...yet! LOL I would also say just double check that you are playing the rewards correctly and you arent cheating yourself out of some coin which could get you some healing.
I'm about halfway through the core box and, yeah, have struggled to keep my health up. I might try and do a couple of the side-quest cards (from the expansions), see if I can earn some cash and heal up a bit!
Im a late comer to this game, I've just gotten interested in it as i was debating on buying into another game but then people were recommending this as better than the other newer game and i dont know why i didnt look at this game closer before. I just get really busy and have had a lot of family care problems, recovering from covid last few years,so havent had a lot of brain space nor time to spare to games. Thanks, this game sounds better than a lot of the more recent ones ive seen. I like the maps.
Disagree on the swinginess, because needing a 51+ on a d100 is exactly the same as needing an 11+ on a d20. But I agree that getting a +2 is a crap improvement and there are way too many of these little nothing buffs. Bookkeeping probably prevents me from playing more. If any game ever needed a good tracking app it’s this one. 100% agree having some buffs from cards, some from tokens, and others from memory alone is a total pain and mods get forgotten constantly because of it. That said, really good game. You just really have to earn it.
Agree that it is basically a d10, but to me, I cannot help but FEEL like it is swingy, statistics be damned. This is the type of game that ideally will stay out for a few days, to reduce the bookeeping that i do to get evverything all set up, making my little dry erase cards and all.
@@HungryGamerReviews I have not as of yet played the game but I do own the 3 box, vol 3 creation kit, dm screen, FL60 (remastered) equipment card pack. I'm currently reading through the rulebook at page 20. Hopefully next week the equipment cards will be here today. I've heard lots of good things about it from fellow gamers. I like what I've seen and read so far. It seems one the most LEGIT board game rpg imho.
This game is still sitting on my shelves unplayed because I don’t have the expansions and every review of this I see warns me off of playing due to the missing cards, accounting, and swingy rolls.
They’re not wrong, but it’s still worth a go. I’ve enjoyed it enormously even with just the base game. I even made a tts mod that one of the game’s creators logged onto with me and played a bit.

many thanks!!! So many good crawlers lately
Excellent review (as usual) that doesn't seem to have suffered from being trimmed down by sound issues! I may just have to pick this one up.
Thank you!!! Glad you found it useful!
Really good and thorough review, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Over time I have become a much bigger fan of making changes to fit what you like!

Middarra is special isnt it. I also got Oathsworn coming, and Stars of Akarios coming really soon!!
Thank you for the video
Most welcome! Cool to see this one still gets love!

Very insightful and spot-on review! Have you played the stories in the expansions too?
Not yet! I opened the Fall of the Spire for the new combat rules. I think I have...1 scenario left in the core game story

Well your timing is good. Last I checked Green Briar games had it on a pretty deep discount

There is a useful tracking app available on Android
@13:43
I thought of this for d20 to d100 (5x)
Say its a +3 bonus I'd go with 3×5 and ad 15% on the d100 roll. What do you think?
could totally work. Have you tried it?

This game looks great
It's a good one!

That's cool
It's worth playing. I only explored the expansion after I played a few scenarios. Def fun
House Rules/Improvising works
