Aelderman is pretty fun, even though I am not very good at it. I agree, outside of a con, I don't see it hitting my table often. I have plenty of heavy games (such as Voidfall) that I enjoy, but nobody else I regularly play with like that level of brain burn. I have not been to as many cons as you two, but it has gotten to the point I am starting to recognize people and play games with those I know. I had a lady at DDC ask me if I was running Flamecraft again (previous con) as she had a great time in that game. I played several games at Kubla (Prime) over a couple of days with a group of folks who recently invited me to drive down there for a game day. I ran Dwellings at KublaFall, and I knew everyone who signed up for the game. I joked that we could have just messaged each other and saved the hassle of signups. I think that is definitely the advantage to small cons. I'm not running anything official at DDC, but I'm going to repeat what I did last year and schedule games via Discord. I am already trying to figure out what I need to haul down there.

It was nice running into you briefly. I've enjoyed all the releases from Off the Page Games so far, so I'm looking forward to trying Corps of Discovery. There were a couple new releases at PAXU this year, but I think it is usually just the first time Essen releases are available (SETI for example).

I love this tradition! Working on bracket and general question. Is there a game missing against Deep Shelf (game 14 maybe)? It looks like it's supposed to be up against something. I also count 42 games and the title says 43.

I love this game! It can be quite swingy but a decent amount of characters have natural threat mitigation to help a little. My biggest complaint is the boss doesn't do much you have this beautiful standee just sitting there. Now the creator did push out a rules FAQ adding boss movement which I think works super well in some instances but does make those bad recoveries feel worse when you have a boss about to hit you twice and you wasted your last action trying to recover

The swinginess does sound like a problem. I'm interested in this game but their site won't ship to Canada so sadly I can't get a copy.

I don't think the base game it that complicated or even that long to play (compared to Sid Meier's Civ or TI4), but of course it's deep and complex. the crowdfunding managed to add the Assyrians as a faction, if your quibble has influnced that, thanks ;-D (although I would've chosen some additional eastern european tribe).

Yes, I trying to get back on track and viewing what I missed from the past few months. So, September... From your monthly top 5, Lunar Rush is the want i want to play the most. Life of the Amazonia seems interesting as well (and beautiful). It always help to have beautiful game to attract new gamers!! 😈 My 5 most played game of September were: 5- Thunderstone Advanced: I still play this second version of the Thunderstone deck builder. This was the Dominion Killer for me. Every game is so different depending on the heroes, the village and the dungeon setup. I just love it!!! 4- Shadows of Brimstone: We are almost done with the original 13 scenarios. We are playing the last one next week. We play the campaign mode. The progression is well paced. It is always difficult, but we won every time except once. It's brutal, it's a lot of dice chucking. it just does what it's supposed to do very well. 3- Roll'n Bump: One of my mom's favorite. Just great light after dinner fun. Kind of a more strategic Yathzee. 2- Mice 7 Mystics - heart of Glorm: We finished the second box of this adventure in mice world. It wasn't. We had to redo a scenario 3 times before beating it, a bit similar to the first box, no new map tile. But the next box seems to be quite different... Although, I think I convinced my group to start Gloomhaven with the new year. 1- The Gang: One of my great discoveries of the year. This quick, deduction game using poker combination. I just love it. Feels like playing Ocean 11 - The Deduction game. I did receive and played Wondrous Creatures, but only once at the end of the month. It is every thing we were expecting and more. can't wait to hear your comments about that one! It's good. It feels like a mix of Ark Nova, Earth and Revive, but at teh same time, simpler. For your next months list, Sparks is the one that interests me the most. Write to you soon!

Thank you so much for doing this! I'm not a boss battler enthusiast. I much prefer adventure/campaign game. But since I fell in love with Oathsworn, and all the narrative and boss fight conclusion... I kept an eye out for other Boss Battler. I tagged this one, since I saw there was a campaign mode, with narrative and progression, and crafting!!! But, the reasons I don't like the video games... Are all present in the board game... So, I don't like the time constrain and neither the repetitive grinding... I don't mind some grinding... But, I hate it when it's too long... I would certainly try a one off game eventually, but you just save me plenty of shelf space!!

Great review! I’m really liking this one and can’t wait to keep playing. I agree with your “quibbles” as well. The initiative tokens are too small and I really wish they would have made the ini board dual layered (one slot per row). The tokens slide on it too easily and since they are so small, they are easily nudged. Also the (lack of) insert is pretty bad, but what is worse is they don’t even give you baggies for all the stuff after you punch them out. My own minor quibble, at 3:22 the initiative changes happen in L-R, T-B order, you don’t reveal the enemy cards before you can pick your card. It may just have been the way you said it in the overview and not how you played though and I misunderstood. Cheers!

Unconscious Mind is my personal game of the year. It is a damn near perfect game for me: the weight, the decision space, the playtime, the table presence. I haven’t put too much time into the modules yet, but I love having that variability. This game made me even more excited for Floe to arrive.

I need to play more games from this year, My top 2 would be Leviathan wilds or slay the spire. Andromeda edge and unconscious mind both kind of dissapointed me a little and I need more games because it could improve I want to ask, I always liked bullet but I thought that each new box had less original characters each time when I saw their skills, so I didn't care that much from paw and palette. Like the only thing they really change is the patterns while the first box changed the entire way they see the bullets like color, numbers..., what is your take of that? Or there is something that I didn't see and need to play them?
