I also struggled with this game solo. I'm thinking about ditching the rules & using Kismet or Swords of the Mist (an FKR approach). I will use the event cards, the character books as inspiration for PC Qualities/tags, the board, standees, etc. & whatever else works with the way I want to play. I have some experimenting to do.
That might be very interesting let me know how it works. I wonder if that would work with my 2nd edition copy of Decent. I might have to consider that.
You are not kidding! I too solo this game and it can get nuts. I love this game, anyone not familiar with it and love story and lots of combat it is a great game. One thing I started doing is using my iPad Pro and capturing the sheets you have on paper and putting the into my iPad notability app. I can then erase with ease and make notes etc without juggling may pieces of paper as stats change very frequently! Hard to keep on top of everything. I put all my tokens in a larger plastic art bin that have spacing separators. Lots and lots of tokens! I also find little knitting needle counters work well for health trackers. Again more stuff out there. You have three boxes , which is what I got. Yours is much neater than mine. Bravo. Enjoy because it is worth the effort. Good video
Thank you for all the suggestions. I feel you have pointed out one of the best parts of this game. You can customize it to work for you. The game has so much going on and it can be a lot to track. I am going to hit the craft store today and pick up some knitting needle counters. Those will work much better for the encounters and will not take up much space.
Love your idea of the journal. Over the past year I have honed my journal skills. More for organizing, quick “next game” setup, short narrative reminders and ideas that I can convert to ttrpgs. I have a separate journal for a solo Forbidden Lands campaign, 4 Against the Darkness and my GM notes for a 5e d&d group i run. Never thought to use this system for folklore… I will now! Great video of ideas!
The journal helps so much with the game. I also keep a different journals for a lot of my games so I can always go back and pick them back up and start playing again.
Good effort - this level of organisation would clearly improve enjoyment of the game. I feel like a chump right now with everything in bags 😉 gonna get organising! One question - sometimes you have to get a random item. How do you handle those situations since you have your items organised into types?
The only cards I keep out are the regular Item cards because those get use the most. I keep them in a card holder separated by type so I have a bit more control when selecting an item. The other small cards are kept in the small bins. With the clear top I know what cards are in the bin so when I need one I can just select that bin, select the card from it and put it back away. No reason to keep all the cards on the table that you might not use during the game.

@@solitaryrpg I will let you know when I get back to it. It's your game, make it fun.

I played through all of the main scenarios and there is a lot of tracking with cards, tokens and the like. Decent game though!
