Linda went from folk rock to opera to Spanish songs of her father to Gerswin. Such versatility. She provided strong shoulders for the next generation to stand on.
That’s the extremely talented Kenny Edwards on banjo and vocals. He’s one of her original band mates from the Stone Ponies. She just melts me with her beautiful ballads. Thanks Harri 🌺✌️
Actually, I believe it was JD Souther who sang with Linda on the album. He wrote the song and was a long time partner of hers. They remain friends to this day.
I love Linda Ronstadt I grew up listening to her because of my mom, I was born in 71 so basically grew up hearing all the great artists. But when I saw this live I had to smile, I knew it was from the 80’s, she had that “pat benatar” haircut that was super popular around that time. It didn’t matter though, she was beautiful, and her voice was magnificent.
Ok you Must listen to her doing the Elvis Costello song "Party Girl" from the same concert. If you haven'T already of course! Linda and JD Souther are one of the all time great combos
I never got to see her in concert, but I was "down in front" for many others, including Janis Joplin. Linda Rondstadt is one of THE most gifted vocalists of the past 75 years. Do listen to Joan Baez's 1968 Baptism - a unique and important album, still. I have the original vinyl (bought new in '68), and a remastered & expanded CD.
If there were one person in the world I would love to meet, it would be Linda. I saw her in concert twice. Best shows ever! I envy your good fortune! How did it come about?
@@debbiechang5781 I lived in Tucson for 18 years and I was at a local artisan shop and just happened to run into her. I really didn't think it was her at first until I said excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you but are you Miss Ronstadt? She turned to me with a smile and said last time I checked and we both chuckled, shook her hand and told her how much I loved her voice even though I am so young to be a fan, I was 24 at the time in 2000. She smiled and said it was so sweet that a young man was such a fan of her music. We talked for a few minutes and she had to go, so then to my surprise she gave me a hug and told me to be good and she left. I know she is from and lives in Tucson. I just never thought I'd ever just run into her.
This is one of my all-time faves. J.D. Souther wrote my favourite songs for Linda. The banjo adds an amazing and unexpected touch to this minor chord ballad.
Harri, you'll notice she said at the beginning that the song was written by her friend John David Souther. That would be J.D. Souther who wrote the song, "You're Only Lonely" which you did a great reaction to about 9 months ago of the fantastic live cover version sung by Fortune, Walker, Rogers, Isaac. You should now do a reaction to J.D Souther's original of that beautiful song, "You're Only Lonely"!
Should also do J.D. Souther's version of the Eagles hit, "New Kid In Town" from his album, "Natural History". Awesome track! He co-wrote it with Glen Frey and Don Henley.
Also J. D. Souther's "White Rhythm and Blues", "Last in Love", and "If You Don't Want My Love" off of his "You're Only Lonely" album. Here is an excerpt from J. D. Souther's biography when he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013. "A principal architect of the Southern California sound and a major influence on a generation of songwriters, Mr. Souther has either written or co-written some of the Eagles’ biggest hits, including “Heartache Tonight,” “Victim of Love,” “New Kid in Town,” and “Best of My Love,” Don Henley's super hit "The Heart of the Matter," and the Eagles’ single from 2007, “How Long.” Mr. Souther has written ten songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt, including classics “Faithless Love,” “Simple Man, Simple Dream,” and “Prisoner in Disguise.” He has collaborated with other world-renowned musicians, including his duet “Her Town Too” with James Taylor, and has worked with numerous other artists and writers, including Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Paul Williams, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Hugh Masekela, Burt Bacharach, Dixie Chicks, Raul Malo, India Arie, Roy Orbison, Arthur Hamilton, George Strait, Brian Wilson, Bob Dipiero, Bernadette Peters, and Trisha Yearwood. Mr. Souther released successful solo albums praised by publications like Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, Jazz Times, and American Songwriter. Mr. Souther’s songs have appeared on over 117 million albums sold worldwide."
Beautiful song with Linda's wonderful vocals. So many great songs. Different Drum When Will I Be Loved Just One Look. Some of my favorites. Thanks Harri Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Now this is one of Linda’s best songs and Prisoner in Disguise, Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams are my favorite albums but I love all her music! I forgot Hasten Down the Wind and if you want to her power vocals you need to listen to Lose Again and I’ve had the privilege to see her in concert twice
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.
You should try her 1940s songs like Funny Valentine, I’ve got a crush on you, or Someone to Watch Over Me. They are from her What’s New album w/The Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
Harri, you might want to check out the tune "Someone to Lay down beside me" live from the Fox Theater in Atlanta. It's a Karla Bonnhof tune! Its spectacular! I love how Linda would perform her friends songs and give their careers and $$$$ bankroll. A shot in the arm!
Glen Campbell did a nice job on this song as well. Love Linda and so, so wish she could have kept her voice. What a blow. Parkinson's Disease took my Dad, hope she's doing well. Thank's Harri.💕
She really can do it all. I saw her in Pirates of Penzance and she was as incredible in that as in concert. She may not be able to perform now but she left us with such an amazing body of work.
Harry, have you ever reacted to Linda playing the part of Mabel, in the light opera "Pirates of Penzance." If not, you really should. So you can appreciate the full range of her voice.
I must say that she is my favorite singer ever but she is messing this up royally. Holding back on everything for some reason. The full throated version on the studio recording is preferable to this and other times I've heard her sing this live she sang this better than this.
The incomparable Linda Ronstadt
Beautiful inside and out and a gorgeous voice to match. If I could choose one voice to have it would be hers.
Linda Ronstadt was simply the best there is.
Linda Ronstadt has one of the best voices ever. Great choice Debbie and Harri.
Linda went from folk rock to opera to Spanish songs of her father to Gerswin. Such versatility. She provided strong shoulders for the next generation to stand on.
My whole life, nobody could touch Linda... until I heard Eva Cassidy.
That’s the extremely talented Kenny Edwards on banjo and vocals. He’s one of her original band mates from the Stone Ponies. She just melts me with her beautiful ballads. Thanks Harri 🌺✌️
And before Stone Poneys he was one for the original members of Canned Heat for a short time
Was he the same as the one singing on the album? This is my absolute favorite song of hers (okay, in the top 5 at least!).
Actually, I believe it was JD Souther who sang with Linda on the album. He wrote the song and was a long time partner of hers. They remain friends to this day.
@@debbiechang5781 Linda's sweet voice is so soothing. Thanks, Debbie, for another sublime request. :)
Good choice Debbie Chang 👍🏻

Unbelievable how powerful her voice is and a perfect instrument. She needs nothing. Beautiful.
Her voice was a gift to the world...it makes me cry for our loss
Linda's lovely face and expressions match her gorgeous voice.

Great pick Debbie Chang my friend!!! Love Linda, always have. Great reaction Sir Harri
Gotta give mad props to John David Souther;s lyrics. Beautiful song that only Linda could do full justice by.
Voice of an Angel
The first time I saw her her back up band were the Stone Ponies later to form the Eagles
No, it was another band/members of Linda's that went on to form the Eagles.
An amazing voice throughout her diverse career- one of a kind.

What a voice this lady had, and boy could she hit the notes.
Bless you for sending healing thoughts her way. ✌
Beautiful, flawless vocal.
Beautiful
Saw her three times. First time I was 15 feet or so away. Love her voice. Amazing lady, too!
Met her once In Tucson. She is a beautiful lady inside and out. So kind and such a real lady. I'll never forget it.

My very favorite Linda performance live. Thank you!
Linda will always be one of my all time favorites. Thanks much again for your wonderful reaction.
Her beautiful voice. She was the first concert I ever went to! Breaks my heart she can no longer sing...
She did just about everything style wise. You should check out some of the Big Band/Swing stuff she did with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.

When I think of Linda…I think ‘a female equivalent to Elvis’.
Check out her version of ‘Down So Low’💔
The bass guitar player, 🎸 Kenny Edward’s was with Linda in The Stone Ponies.🎶
You should do a reaction to one of her more in-depth interviews. Her mind is as supple and rich as her singing voice.
The interview with Bob Harris on Old Grey Whistle Test is one I rec😊ommend.
