This is from For Sentimental Reasons album. The last of the 3. They combined for sales of over 7 million copies, critical acclaim, and 2 Grammy nominations. She didn't win but the competition was very tight back in the early-mid 80's.
This was my husbands and my song. We would dance around the room holding each other ….. he passed away 6 years ago and playing this today brought so many memories. Thank you.
I now feel that you are fully in love with Linda ... you have OFFICIALLY JOINED THE CLUB ! I first heard Linda Ronstadt in 1970, she had already recorded "Different Drum" with The Stone Pony's, and just recorded "Long Long Time" (one of my favorites, if that is at all possible). The first thought that ran trough my head was just how good she was, and then thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star" (my one and only prediction that came true). She was only mildly known at the time. As time passed I continued to listen to her music and fell in love with her. I guess like most guy's at the time, if they knew who Linda was, they were in love with her. I know there is some Willie Nelson quote regarding this, but that came later. In November of 1976, I finally got the chance to see her in concert, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. I remember hearing that she was going to perform there and asked my friends if they would like to go. I got laughed at, as they commented ... "are you kidding Linda Ronstadt, fu*k no"; these guys were all hard rockers. Well my response was for all of them to go fu*k themselves, and I went to the concert alone. By the way, the best concert I've ever been to, no flash pyrotechnics, no rhythmic dancing, no over-the-top drama, just a great band with the best singer I have ever heard, making beautiful music. Just a joy to my ears! Sadly, I have never had a chance to see her a second time, but her voice has been an integral part of my life, and will continue to be. So you see, if I come across a little or alot biased, well, it's because I am! I know that many DON'T share this opinion, there are also many that DO ... but I believe that she is the GREATEST SINGER. I can't say of all time because, all time has not passed, but too me, she is! I will continue to joyfully listen to her music, and hope that she recovers, (perhaps a new cure will emerge). On a sad and happy note, the fact that she's afflicted with such a condition just breaks my heart, but we can all be so grateful that she has left us such large and eclectic catalog of music. We are all winners to benefit from her immense talent! Linda ... you are the GREATEST !
Her three albums of standards that she did with Nelson Riddle (who worked with Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and many others) are fantastic. This song is just one of the gems from those albums. Definitely check out anything from the albums, "What's New", "Lush Life" and "For Sentimental Reasons". Linda is a gift to anyone who appreciates talent and versatility.
Finally! First reaction to Linda's work with Nelson Riddle that I've seen. I used to have a live VHS performance of one of those concerts & it was great. A very sweet, playful stage prescence, too.
Such a fantastic song, and only Linda could sing it this well. I only heard it by Nat King Cole before but this is a fantastic version. Thanks, Debbie and Harri
I'm right up there with you Harri. I think Linda can sing any style. Definitely in my top five female vocalists. I cannot pick which one I would choose to be number one. It's basically a time between Janis, Aretha, Linda, Ella and Etta.
The Ronstadt/Riddle recordings were masterpieces. Ultimately there were three albums' worth of this glorious stuff. Linda could sing ANYTHING... Harri, you also like Karen Carpenter. Check out her 1975 recording of the 1938 Sammy Fain standard I Can Dream Can't I, orchestrated for the Carpenters recording by 1950s bandleader Billy May. It foreshadowed the Riddle work for Linda Ronstadt...
Love that you are giving Linda exposure to a wider and hopefully younger audience. Her cover Little Feat's Willin' remains one of my favorite songs of all times.
This is from one of her three album collaborations with Nelson Riddle. All three are full of gems but I can't recommend her performance of the Frank Sinatra penned "I'm a Fool to Want You" highly enough. It's not just her singing, which is flawless, but the arrangement which is delicate and haunting.
Boomer here. Loved Linda for her early pop/rock work and then she put out this stuff with arranger Nelson Riddle and I just... gave in, really. She had me!
Thank you, Debbie, for this Linda Ronstadt submission👏. I had not heard this in way too long (my bad). Great choice and excellent review, Harri. Bravo to both of you!
Another beautiful piece is “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress” from the 1982 album “Get Closer”. Although the album has rock songs, the song “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Her voice is so pure and powerful that it’s hard to believe anyone could sing like that and I thank God I’ve heard it.
I think Linda Ronstadt's best song is "Dreams To Dream" which was on the movie soundtrack of "Fievel Goes West." Three more awesome songs are: 1) Long Long Time 2) Look Out For My Love (Written by Neil Young) 3) Different Drum (With The Stone Poneys). Enjoy Harri B!
... so pleased to see that you've featured this song, Harry ... IMHO we need to incorporate that flowing, gentle vibe of this style of music more and more into our modern lifestyle ... in order to find balance and peace ... good to see you spreading this vibration. Linda is of my generation, being about my same age ... and it is heartwarming to see how much the younger followers of music are discovering her magic. Blessings of the day to you, Harry.
Just beautiful! I am a big Linda fan but never got into this part of her career. However, this has inspired me to check it out now. After all, it's Linda and I could listen to her sing anything. Thanks Harri for your appreciation of Linda and featuring her on your Channel. Special thanks again Debbie for all your requests. Keep them coming ❤
She did two or three albums of old standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Two of my favorites are "Straighten up and Fly Right" (another Nat King Cole song) and her version of " 'Round Midnight" is absolutely haunting and memorable.
The King Cole Trio recorded it in 1946. It wasn’t the first recording of the song, though. Countless covers have been done. Linda’s cover is very well done, but that’s exactly what I would expect from her!
Actually Sam Cooke did this probably originally in 1959. To me his version is the best. Tho I'm a big fan of Linda and really dig her voice, had many very good songs.
Song was written in 1945 and recorded by many before Nat King Cole had the hit. I thought I remembered it by the Ink Spots and found it was written by a member of that group.
So old-school romantic and classy. Everything Linda touches turns to gold. Thanks, Harri and Debbie!
🥰
You might want to give a listen to her cover of Piel Canel. It sounds like something from a 1950's Havana nightclub.
Wecome to the Linda club
Thank you Harri welcome to the Linda fan club.

Linda ... you are the GREATEST !
Well put I agree 100% !
Sounds so classy and smooth!
Linda is the greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
I agree with your comment, but I would go a step further…of all time. My reason is because she could sing any genre and make it her own.
Or pretty much any. Karen Carpenter was the ballad queen. But Linda Ronstadt could sing ANYTHING...
She was so versatile!

Also with Nelson Riddle: "What's New" and "I've Got a Crush on You". Both fabulous.
Thank you for sharing yet another Linda song Debbie. She is a marvel. Thanks Harri.
🥰You’re welcome. I’m her biggest fan and I love recruiting new members to the fan club 😂
I said it before, she has a way of making you think that she is just singing to you.
Finally! First reaction to Linda's work with Nelson Riddle that I've seen. I used to have a live VHS performance of one of those concerts & it was great. A very sweet, playful stage prescence, too.

wow! so silky smooth… no wonder she’s a legend!

When I was a teenager many decades ago, all I wanted for Christmas was her "Living in the USA" album
That’s the same album where she has the duet with James Taylor on Straighten Up and Fly Right you should definitely listen to that

3am. Linda sings. Joy. ❤x
Harri, I agree she can sing anything and is best female singer of this generation

Linda and Sinatra together, 'Moonlight in Vermont"

Linda Ronstadt, that's all you need to say.
The Eagles started singing back up for her
I have her Nelson Riddle album...masterpiece...
The King Cole Trio recorded it in 1946. It wasn’t the first recording of the song, though. Countless covers have been done. Linda’s cover is very well done, but that’s exactly what I would expect from her!
Great choice Ms Chang.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
??? didn’t you already react to a song Linda covered? I think it was “Down So
Low”. And I think it was concert in Germany
He has reacted to many of her songs! Most of them were requested by me. I’m her biggest fan 🥰
Actually Sam Cooke did this probably originally in 1959. To me his version is the best. Tho I'm a big fan of Linda and really dig her voice, had many very good songs.

Great version! but not a patch on Ella Fitzgerald IMHO and you should also check out Gregory Porters version.
In the same genre, here is a video of her singing “I’ve Got a Crush on You” : ua-cam.com/video/KelraygLn2g/v-deo.html.
Nat Cole classic
"There are only 3 real female singers; Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are just pretenders." - Dolly Parton
Sadly illness has robbed her of singing
Love Linda, but greatly prefer Natalie Cole’s version.
Have you heard Sam Cookes version from 59? I absolutely love it. I heard it last year on an old American Bandstand show. I
