I really enjoy watching your videos. I love these old bikes and you make it interesting repairing them. Keep up the outstanding videos. You have a big heart. Not many people out there like that these days.
I bought a 92 a year or so ago, rode it home and have had problems with it since the day after.. no shop wants to work on these bikes near me. And the one shop that looked at it quoted me 4k for a top end rebuild. So now I have to learn more about the motor myself. Just throwing that out there in case anyone is looking at buying one of these
Always enjoy the videos! Especially the ones that feature the air-cooled inline fours. UJM’s from the late seventies, early eighties are favourites of mine!
I think the "rocking" method for stem/guide wear is performed at maximum lift by the cam. If so, you're way higher than that which exaggerate the "rock".
Probably. But here’s the thing, the Kibblewhite website (valve guides) shows a clearance of about a thou and a half for intakes about 2 for exhaust so assuming the originals were similar when new, the clearance is way off.
Numbers on the rear fender tell me it's a LAPD motor, not CHP, and for that particular year it should have the large Fibre glass fairing not a standalone windshield, that being said, if you wanted the correct CHiPs windshield, check out "Gustafsson plastics" (based In Florida).
I know Gustafson. I have purchased from them. I’m not changing anything. This is a budget thing. This is not a keeper. If someone who buys it wants to do that, fine and dandy. Previous owner told me when he obtained it, it had Arizona Highway patrol markings. He rigged it up to look CHP.
Hi Bill. They called yesterday, I was in the truck doing an errand. Being just yesterday, I haven't mentioned that yet in any video. The gentleman I spoke to, at first, wasn't terribly interested in helping, he tried to say they could only talk to whomever bought the vehicle from them; but after I explained I now own it, I provided a synopsis of the history as I was told, and the gentleman said he couldn't help with anything except say they rent bikes to studios and it could have been one of them, but no way to be sure, no records, etc. Frankly, he didn't seem very interested in helping. I thanked him for his time and that was that. It may also not be the same Hollywood Motors. There are tons of them. Where I mailed the letter is an address in Canoga Park, CA. So.... not being able to verify, in writing, any direct ties with the television/movie/film industry, I'm going to go ahead and repair anything that may have been assumed to be the result of being a "stunt bike" and move on. With no way to document, these things are blemishes not history. Cheers.
Yea, I figured as much, air cooled and hard life. As for the chain, I’d replace if I was splitting the case and if it were a performance bike. I have steered away from riveting a cam chain like it were herpes. I know people who have and it’s always a worry plus I’ve never done one. I believe this one will be fine for what the intended use will be. Thanks.

Midnight Club 3 memories, the reward for completing all motorcycle clubs (Chopper of America Bike Club and Original Riders)
I passed up a few police KZ1000P bikes, and I regret not owning one.
Put it in good running order and someone will scoop it. up.
Another great video, love the old police bikes. I have a cell number for the Hollywood Motors owner, Steve.
