I forgot to mention that I love both and was very surprised by this sequel. Both are underrated and not known as much as deserved. Love your reviews!
Is the 2014 version good
I’m from the town where the “phantom killers” murders actually took place
You mean Texarkana?
Dude, Lee, you are killin' it with your reviews! I admire your grind. Great video as always brother.
Thanks so much Desmond!
Shit, I've never even heard of the "trombone" kill before. Now youve got me very intrigued.
Also, I saw the original in the theater in Texarkana in 1976 as a 12 year kid. Scared the crap out of me! Watch it again and you’ll realize most of it doesn’t hold up but the kill scenes DO. Every time the Phantom is on screen it still works, just like it did in 76.
That's awesome man. I didn't even know about the original until the 90s.
thanks Lee for the review I watch the original town that dreaded sundown when I was 10 years old scarred me for life
Just stumbled upon your channel and I’m hooked! Thanks for the great review - cheers from Australia
Thank you Danny!!
I've seen this movie three times now and I love it. It's a brutal and intense....beautifully shot and acted. The kills are nasty. Not sure why this isn't talked about more... another great sackhead slasher!
It's a great remake. Very unique.
Is it good im so excited to watch tonight
Halloween 1 was playing on a tv in Halloween 3
Thank you for the shout out Lee. I hope you enjoy the wish master movies. You are welcome for them they are two of my favorite movies I've not watched the town that dreaded sundown but after this review I really want to thank you for taking the time to do all these reviews
*
You're welcome Brandi...and thank you for the movies!
Thank you so much for doing a review on this movie. I had never heard of this movie until earlier this year and I happened to have seen the poster for the original movie that came out in the 70's. I watched it and liked it alot... especially since it was definitely a different approach and style to a "slasher type movie. Then I found out about this 2014 remake and was so excited to see it that I bought the Blu Ray without watching it and I'm glad I did. The cinematography was so cool and different for a modern day horror film and the locations and neighborhoods gave me a sort of "Halloween" type feel.
Yeah not a lot of people talk about this one, but it's really solid. And unique.
Were you thinking about Wes Craven's New Nightmare with the whole "watching a film in a film" thing Lee since in that Heather Langenkamp and her son Dylan watch scenes from the original Nightmare on Elm Street in parts of the film.
That is actually a great example!
I live in Austin now, but Texarkana is my home town. I still have family there. Also my wife’s ex husband is the nephew of Charles B. Pierce who directed the original film and played the part of Sparkplug. I was so surprised and very pleased to see this film’s creation.
But know most citizens of Texarkana HATE both pictures. But I love them!
Keep up the great work brother 🤟
Oh and as far as sackhead killers go I have to go with one of my all time favorite movies and I mean movies in general, Friday the 13th part 2! Pretty obvious but it's always been my favorite film from the franchise.
I love the wishmaster
Great review! Have a great MichaelMyersMonday Lee!
Thanks Lee you are awesome I know I seemed like I couldn't make my mind up but glad you did this one for me ,I Love The Hell outta this movie AWESOME. That Nun painting is truly excellent is a creepier take on that character then the movie itself.
This one looks really good. I haven't actually seen this one. Need to check it out. Nice, detailed review.
Dude! Your wife is very talented. That painting gives me the creeps. I've been wanting to check this movie out for the longest. It sounds like an amazing watch.
Great review bro, i loved how in this film you werent aware if it was a remake or sequel or omage. As it revolves around the og film. I love the wishmaster. Where its been done before? New nightmare.
Yes! New Nightmare is a great example!
You've got me interested. I had already planned to watch the original at some point since you mentioned the trumpet kill on a vid i watched a few weeks ago. I'm going to watch it soon, followed by this one.
One of the better remakes out there for sure.
Haven’t seen this movie yet might watch it soon though, great review!
Definitely one of the better modern slashers in my book.
I loved it I was very surprised at how it all went along. Had a lot of twists and turns. Loved the characters and story.
Agreed. It was a very well put together story.
It was an original way to Tackle a Sort of sequel and it was so beautiful filmed
Yes loved the cinematography.
the ending of the original has stuck with me how he is walking free and could literally be anyone in the town. Someone's husband, someone's wife even, someone's neighbor, someone's best friend.. he just blended in. Very powerful and creepy ending .I agree sackhead killers are interesting and I've always liked Jason from part 2 because of it. I heard you mention the Villisca axe murders in this video. I know you're busy, but I recommend an episode of Ghost Adventures that is in UA-cam where they go to the Villisca house and some of the E.V.Ps they pick up from there are chilling
Yeah that's a great ending. I need to give the first another watch.
I live where this story happened they play this movie every month now in the park where some kills happened
Great review!
Thanks brother!!
He was called the Phantom Killer or the Moonlight Murderer.....Great Review Lee!!!💀✊
I remember really enjoying it when I first saw it even though I could tell who the killer was.
I'm glad I gave it another watch!
Is it good cant wait to watch tonight
Lee, you ever seen Midnight Movie? It takes place in a theater, they mention The Town That Dreaded Sundown in Scream, good review man always great content when Drumdums uploads!!
i really like this movie. i actually never seen the first movie so I'm definitely gonna check it out. Great review!!!
I really enjoyed this movie! Completely agree with your take. The one killer was obvious, but I was definitely surprised that there were two and that it was the kid from the beginning. I liked the nods to the original because it made me think the director's son could be involved. More people should watch this movie
Yeah one of the few 2-killer reveals. Loved it. A very unique remake.
I really enjoyed this movie. Great plot twist at the end. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the dark corner of my room.
Yes! There's so much to love about this one. Highly underrated.
Is it good😊can't wait to watch this tonight
@@swavezmartin yes, watch it for sure!!! 😈😁
Gonna have to see both original and the recent one. We make sack masks at our shop (Friday 13th part 2, and OG Strangers) and was looking for other ones to make from movies and also working on some original designs. I want to do one from this movie but am hesitant since these crimes were real and unsolved....
Fun fact: the director, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, is actually from my hometown of Laredo, Texas. He went to my former high school in the 70s.
Damn that's awesome!
I dug this movie. I saw it a few years ago on Netflix. They had this and the original on there at the same time. Needless to say it made for a very good double feature. As for the kills, the trombone kill is my absolute favorite.
i don't say this much, but i saw this movie :D loved the review Lee
finally got around to watching this. It’s so good! Some very gnarly, gory kills. It’s definitely more of a teen slasher than crime drama (like the original) but I love Scream type movies so it worked for me.
Is it good can't wait to watch tonight
Good review Lee was gonna watch it as it was on Netflix uk but it seems to have dissapeared!!! I will get the Blu Ray as u say it's a purchase worthy
Gonna buy this one!!
They show the drive thru with the movie playing at the beginning because it is tradition in Texarkana. They have a drive in there where they would do a screening of the original every Halloween.
That's badass.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews truly. I live about a few hours north of Texarkana in Arkansas. I think I'm gonna try to check it out this Halloween. Seems like it would be an awesome experience.
Told you I would watch your review as always my friend you did a great job. Still wanna see the original movie to compare them even though this isn't a real remake. Also two things, you said you were trying to think of a movie where another movie in their franchise existed in that movie. Remember Halloween was shown in Halloween 3, I know it's different because it's still a movie in Halloween 3 but it existed. Another thing the boyfriend played in Unbreakable as Bruce Willis son, and also the son in the movie called Arlington Road which is another great movie. Keep up the great work Lee
The original is definitely worth a watch. But I love this remake.
Someone beat me to it...Human Centipede was the motivation of the weirdo in the second one :)
I loved the original and was glad to see them do resurrect the idea without it being a “reboot” or “reimagining.”
Agreed Rebecca. I think it was an interesting way to do a modern take on this film.
Friday 2 remains my favorite sack-head killer, probably because it was my first and was very young. Creeped me out.
Would you ever review Stage Fright 2014? It's the only Musical i ever enjoyed and one of my favorite killers.
Also maybe if you have the time a review on the found footage series, Marble Hornets, it's found on UA-cam and completely free to watch. Great review btw
Prior to watching this review I ordered the original version on bluray. I had never seen it before. This new one has caught my attention now.
It’s better than the original.
Something better than an original doesn't happen very often.
Absolutely Love this movie!!! One of my favorites in the past decade! Great review :-) I'd also recommend "Fender Bender" another great slasher
I'm the kind of fan that likes something to where I don't care if something gets spoiled for me.
Movies inside of movies based on the movie your watching. Lol. I always found that awesome. A few I can remember are Halloween 3, Season of the Witch. Halloween is playing on a few different tv's. Another is the Scream series with Stab. I know there's more but I can't think right now. Loved the review brother! I've seen this movie twice and now it's playing on Amazon Prime so I'm gonna check it out again.
Great examples Alex!
Just watched it for the second time...a really good slasher👍Good plot, editing and soundtrack.
It gets better with every watch. Criminally underrated.
Great movie glad you reviewed it, good job. 👌
Thank you Caleb!
THX for that one.....for me personally..one of the best Slasherflicks in times....cause it´s so different to the other stuff. The cinematography was really unique and awesome. The film is visually on the point and features some really strange camerashots. The atmosphere is great, the Killer rocks the house and the idea, to set this movie on a "meta- stage" works really well. The great and totally forgotten "Original" was hold in honour and the mix between a crime thriller in the vein of ZODIAC and an atmospheric slasherflick, fits very well. Here in germany, the film was released in a funtastic steelbook, which also features the original "Town that dreaded sundown"with tons of extras. Think, it is more than worth, to re-animate the origanal and take a closer look in one of your upcoming reviews....thanks man.
Completely agree. I was definitely getting some strong Zodiac vibes. So refreshing...and LOVE your profile pic!
Thanks man......and also cool, that you like the profile pic :) So refreshing :)
I always enjoyed this film. It kindve reminded me of a more serious Scream film. It reminded me of Scream 4 mixed with My Bloody Valentine Remake, but a more serious version.
Great review! My favourite sack head killer is got to be Warrington Gillette as Jason in Friday 13th part 2 👍.
Hell yeah. I think Dark Night of the Scarecrow is a good one.
The other movie that existed in a movie is Halloween 3.halloween 1 is on the t.v.Another example is Wes cravens new nightmare.
My Favorite was Jason in part 2 like it wasn't he's iconic hockey mask but it just looked creepy and my second favorite was the zodiac killers mask in the movie zodiac even though it wasn't really a horror slasher
"Cough Kettie Cabin Murders Cough."
Friday The 13th Part 2 with Jason didn't even wore his hockey mask but he wore a potato sack over his head.
Hey drumdums how about a review of the 1992 Candyman movie. :-)
I've never seen this movie or the original. I'm going to have to check it out.
You definitely should!
Great movie great reviews I own it on DVD..
Nice!
i just finish watching this like 15 min ago as im typing this, wow this was a quiet a good movie its very different then most slashers, this had a good story, the acting is solid and had a good script and the kills a decent also, and love the twist at the end how her boy friend was one of the killers, i didnt see that coming and a town cop was a surprise also, give this a 7/10
Oh yeah I love this one!
Garbage. With killer on top of her and her facing down, the scene then cuts to her on her back (somehow flipped over) facing up with gun in hand to save the day. Wtf? That was shit.
@@DickRileyTheConquistador I thought the same thing. I rewinded it twice to make sure. Other than that it was decent.
Okay Lee have a few questions my dude! I actually didn't care for the first Strangers movie... I found it very slow and other than a few suspenseful moments it was just kinda okay... How is the second compared? Is it more of a slasher than the original which I felt was more of a torture taunt kinda movie I mean they only killed 1 person in that! or was it 2? And for this movie I have actually never seen either of the town that dreaded sundown and I love me some slashers I can't believe that! Should I watch the first before the remake? I assume yes as its just worth watching in general but it's lore at least is in this one in movie form.. Either way another great review Lee and thank you for answering my questions if you get around too it.
I love the original and have been hesitant to watch the new version. I’ll have to definitely check it out now. Thanks Lee! Great review as always!! 🎃
Ps - favorite sack head killer movie is F13th part 2. Second is Trick r Treat. Sam is a sack head killer, right?
Damn...I guess you could say Sam is a sackhead killer!
Good review, I like the fisrt one better, but I kind of like older movies,, but I did watch this new version about 2 years ago, I did like it also , both very different angle to them.
I usually prefer the original versions as well, but I actually think I like this one more than the original.
The Phantom sounds like Billy Bob Thornton! haha
Haha yes he does.
Loved this film and the original but the original was more darker in tone and overall atmosphere great cinematography in both films
Yes and I like how different it is from the og.
Hard to pick which one i like more both solid in my opinion.
For sackhead movies, watch BAGHEAD-low budget, indie thriller with a sack head killer. Fun. Not groundbreaking but worth watching. Seen it twice.
I enjoy the sack head killer especially Friday the 13th part 2. Keep up the good work Lee
Friday part 2 is one of my favorites. Thank you Chuck!
Amytiville The Awakening had that self aware kind of thing, where they watched the original Amityville Horror film in the Amityville house.
I still need to check that one out. It's been on my list for years.
In Halloween 3 the first Halloween movie exists
The movie you were thinking of is Scream …
There were a movie that came out in 2012, it was called Smiley, it wasn't to bad, that person in the computer had some kind of sack on its head too.
Oh I think I remember that one!
Yea, just punch it in , you'll come across it, the Title is just Smiley !, and they i have two movies i would like to send ya, don't know where to send them
When are you gonna do a review for The Prowler?
OldFashionedSlashin’ After Night of the Living Dead.
Im still waiting for the fog
Great review I love the remake/sequel. I just hope I'm not in a sack by the time the raid 2 review is done.
Jason Hobbs The Raid 2 was watched last night. It was glorious. Review coming soon!
Drumdums very nice to hear hope I didn't waste ur time lol
Oh you didn't!
Who wants to tell him that’s a trombone
Many already have haha. The funny thing is...I knew it was a trombone, but I was so caught up in what I was saying that I slipped. Happens a lot actually.
Halloween exists as a movie in Halloween III Season of the Witch
True story!
Nightbreed and Trick R Treat as well
I consider it a sequel/reboot like Halloween 2018. Did you notice Josh Leonard from The Blair Witch Project?
The fact the film only grossed $106,000 at the box office is honestly just disappointing. I don’t know whether it was because of poor marketing or just people didn’t want to watch it. This film is severely underrated not only because of its incredible cinematography but also acting.
Yeah because it's awesome.
That trumpet kill was wack asf. If anything it's more goofy than effective.
The trombone kill is definitely a top 10 of mine
Me too. Such a crazy kill.
Good movie only problem was the lighting on t.v. at times why
I would like to have you review Wes Craven's deadly friend real forgotten about horror
Hey Lee I know I'm not a pateron member yet but is there anyway to get to Inception and do a review? I know Cody is doing a review and maybe you can beat him to it lol. If not thank you anyway. Have a happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Yes that is one I definitely want to get to soon. I'll try to see if I can squeeze it into December.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews ok thank you Lee, your an awesome friend and sorry if this is like the 50th time I asked you for an Inception review. A lot of times we as viewers forget how much effort and time is put into these reviews, and it's not like your making a killing off of UA-cam so we forget you have a full time job, a family, and a life outside of UA-cam. But just so you know I appreciate all your hard work and dedication to these videos. I make sure I click, watch, and like every video even if I don't care for the content in hopes of it helping your channel and helping your pockets
Great review Lee, this is a very underrated gem & a remake that's on par with the original.
Loving the review. I have a question... if I want to send you a gift, how would I do that?
Send me a dm on Twitter or Instagram @Drumdums. And thank you!
Drumdums sent you a message and am now following
It's a true story as well
3:07 the human centipede series
Yes!
Have you reviewed the 1976 version?
Not yet.
Nightbreed and Trick R Treat as well. Do The Collector have a sack face?
It was not a remake. It takes place years after the original takes place. They show the original in this movie.
I know.
Lmao I played a sackhead killer in a student short back in 2012. It was super unoriginal (beside the ad nauseum sackhead it was also "found footage") but it was fun. I didn't see the finished product cause I'd cringe to see myself act haha. Have to check this one out!
That's awesome!
I actually really liked this movie but I can't buy it on blu ray in the uk which is so annoying! I to torrent it to watch and would gladly pay for a copy for my library! Great review as always and definitely not boring!
Thank you Gavin! F that dude haha. Hope you can score a copy of the blu-ray.
Hi Lee could you please do a review of jeepers creepers 3 I just watched it on Netflix and it’d be great to hear what you think of it, great review as always 👍
I still need to do 2, but sure. I heard 3 is pretty bad haha.
Thanks, I thought it wasn't too bad. The CGI was terrible though which was quite funny
I remember seeing the trailer for this my senior year of high school I did go see this in the theater I was kind of disappointed only because the voice that use in the trailers they don't use in the movie for the Killer wouldn't mind one or two sequels with this series I did see the original twice and even looked up the events taking place back then
I could definitely go for a sequel to this actually.
I never seen the remake but the original was really good. I have the original movie on blu ray. The only time I've liked a remake as much as the original was when I saw the hills have eyes remake that one is actually pretty damn good.
I plan on buying the original really soon.
Very underappreciated, it was a really good slasher movie. The killer was scary af.
Very much agreed!
