I have been enjoying this bottle and singing it praise for several months. So good. James E Pepper decanter and Rebecca Creek Double Barrel Spanish Oak have been 2 great finds. 🥃
Same. I went to the pepper distillery for my 40th in early Dec. Not a fan of Pepper, but I tried this and immediately bought it without any hesitation. Great stuff.
@@PhantomLord187 Sounds like a great Birthday! 🥃
Their Single Barrel, Barrel Proof is also outstanding but usually is a Store Pick.
Dave, I trust your palate. As soon as replenish my funds, I'll be looking for that Rebecca Creek Double Oak. Thanks for sharing.
@@PhantomLord187 agreed! It's substantially better than typical Pepper and it was my secret drinker for the last few months but now the flood of buyers will get after it.
Found one in Texas for 69.99. Thanks for your review!
"Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!"
You tell the only history lessons I’ve ever stayed awake through. Appreciate you and the work you do Jason. Cheers and keep up the stellar work!
JEP BP Yes please! Thanks for the review. I just ordered 2. I love the history lessons!
One of the few, that actually gets to the point!! Thanks for the hard work.
I mean there was a history lesson at first but yeah once he's into the whiskey it's on point
I love your channel because of the background history for the distilleries. Bourbon has a great history in this country.
I currently have one of these and absolutely love it. Mine is batch 009 at 106.8 proof. Got it for $60 and am gonna go get a backup.
Actually marked down here in Dallas. Found it for $61. Love it so far
Spot on as usual! Picked up a bottle about a month ago and I quickly bought a back up. This is delicious and so much more complex than I thought it would be. Great review Jason! 👍🏽
Just opened this bottle a week ago. It’s a really enjoyable, smooth vanilla & spice bomb. Definitely some subtle fruits mid palate. Great review my man!
I paid $70 tonight. Massachusetts. Haven’t opened it yet. Excited to after this review.
Just picked one up and excited to try it!
Great bottle! Picked one up about a month ago. My buddy had a pour at a bar and encouraged me to give it a try if given the chance in my area. Was on a hunt in Missouri and saw it on the shelf for 64.99. Definitely glad he recommended it!
1. I love what Pepper is doing... And you definitely need to visit them!
2. The topper on your shirt EXACTLY matched the Pepper decanter. 😁
Thanks for the Great review Jason!
Just released in Toledo. Grabbed one at Churchills in Maumee. Can't wait to try it
Thank you for the history!! Seriously Jason you tell it well!
I got to try it around New Years and think you're spot on
This is a gorgeous bottle, and a delicious bourbon. And the price is great.
Appreciate the history. Very good bourbon. Getting thru mine right now. Loving it. Great vid.
I just finished a bottle old pepper 100 proof and really enjoyed it.
Great review. I'm glad I got a bottle before the crazy hunt begins.
Love the into the am shirt Jason!
I just picked up this bottle after watching your review and I’m so glad I did. Great flavors and proof point (mine is 107) in this batch #25 bottle. It’s become my new daily drinker. Thanks for your recommendation.
Still looking for one but I have been enjoying their old pepper rye and bourbon. Great review and though I don't buy because of the bottle this is a nice-looking one.
I just grabbed a couple of these today in the Chicago area for $69.99.
The place i was at had 3...I grabbed two and left the last one for the next guy.
TY for the review, m8!!
Jason, are you a history teacher? Because I could listen to you talk about bourbon history for hours. super interesting. Thanks man.
Totally agree. Fantastic bourbon, fantastic value.
Love your videos and information. A+
Love this Bourbon their should be more available soon as they have resolved their bottle shortage! Looking forward to bunkering backups! Great Review Jason 🥃👍👋
Just got a bottle cant wait to try it
$59.99 in Texas. I passed at first but will go back and grab a bottle.
I had a chance (and took it) to visit The Glen Creek distillery 9/23 and am a proud owner of a bottle [unopened] of OCD #5, cheers
I know this late to the game, but just popped mine and delightfully surprised. I do get some of the notes that you are describing, but also feel like there certainly may be some differences as well. Mine is batch #24 @ 107.6 proof. I guess my thought here was it could be cool if you were able to get your hands on 3-4 different batches, to blind them and see if there are indeed noticeable differences similar to you would see in single barrel releases. Love your stuff...love the history, keep up the great work...Cheers!
I grabbed a bottle of this when it popped up locally a few months ago just for the bottle. I was happily surprised when the bourbon was actually good!
Couldn't find this bottle at many local liquor stores in North Jersey. Imagine my surprise when I found it for $79 at my local ShopRite! I like it VERY much and am planning on using the decanter as an infinity bottle when finished!
Just got mine today, can’t wait to crack it. Cheers Jason 🥃🥃😎
I'm pleasantly surprised ... I ran across this bourbon yesterday and bought one. I feel like I'm ahead of the curve for once 😃my bottle is 53.7 and it says it is batch 0014.
I picked this up at Kroger for 49.95 last week. What a deal.
Going to purchase it when it's available.
I'm also going to be visiting the Distillery soon.
Great job, love the history lesson. Cheers Everyone 🥃🥃🥃🥃
5.5 is the youngest. It's gotta have older whiskey This is a crazy good value with baking spices, butterscotch, rye spice etc. Love this offering.
I'm glad I tracked one of these down. Was 69.99 but that slight bit over SRP is mainly due to NY State loving taxes.
Seelbach’s had it today for 89. I bought it anyway. Feel kind of bad for paying that much. Hope it delivers. Already having remorse. Lol.
Mine just came from Seelbach's. Batch #24. It's worth it. If I see it locally for less, I'll definitely buy a backup.
I remember sending this to you 2 months ago ,mi passed & i couldnt find any details, got one on hold now 😂
My wife just picked me up a bottle at the distillery, lovely spice bomb!
This is a great bottle. I definitely backed it up!
I just grabbed 2 bottles of Batch#20 @ 108 proof and it was $65 even here in NY.
I just now bought 2 of the same batch @ 68.50 in upstate NY... didn't want to risk liking it and not finding another later!
I have an beautiful amber James E Pepper whiskey bottle from the 1890s. Incredible history.
For good looking bourbon bottles I'm a sucker for Blanton's and Bib & Tucker.
I'd say it is powerful in the sense that it's a spice bomb. Very nice bourbon. And that bottle! 👀
I'M WANTING ONE!!
$75 in New Jersey. Haven't tried it yet but am looking forward to opening it.
Everytime you say “Marzipan” Fred Minnick gets a royalty 😂
Or Homestar Runner
This was sitting on the shelves in northern Kentucky for the last couple months of 2023. Although the bottle was beautiful, I kept passing it up because there were few reviews at the time. Then Fred Minnick put it on his top 100, so I figured why not for $55? Honestly the quality of this blew me away. Like you said, it does not taste young at all. Compared to cask strength sourced MGP around this price and age, I would take the Pepper any day of the week.
I'll also note there is a slight variation in proof by batch. I currently have Batch 008, it is 105.2 proof. The bottle you're showing at 08:14 is 105.6 proof. The Party Source had a lot of Batch 013 on the shelf last week for $58. I believe that might've been 105.4 proof. I'll likely swing by and pick it up because Batch 008 is running dangerously low.
Personally i love the Woodford double oak bottle!
I think it’s one of the best 5 year barrel proof products I’ve had
Great review. This or the HH 7 year bib?
Finally got one of these today from Footbat. First sips were impressive in a glen. I'll have a full pour tomorrow.
61. and change
Thanks for the heads up Jason. Saw it for 74.99 in NJ. Will pick it up now. Cheers 🥃
Hey I know I'm a little late but USA wine traders in saddle Brook has them for 59.99 I just bought a second one. They also have a 1792 bib for $35 which is nuts.
@@josephgodoy7595 thanks for the scoop!
I dumb lucked into that bottle when I visited the distillery in October and I was blown away. Unfortunately it’s not available in Indiana and I’m almost due for a replacement bottle. Hopefully they show up in Ohio and/or Michigan soon.
I got mine here in MI last month
Picked one up for 60 bones and seeing them in quite a few places in my area with similar pricing
Sounds like one I need to find
How does it compare in value to the Penelope 9yr Barrel strength from last year?
Purchased a bottle in January while in KY. It's delicious and priced right. Hope OHLQ brings this to Ohio soon
I grabbed a bottle in SC and can't wait to crack it open. Thanks for the review Jason
What city in SC?
@@larrybrooksjr6342 Summerville
I picked up 3 batch 1’s a couple of weeks ago at 59.99 each!
58.49 in Kentucky! Not bad!
I requested a bottle from our local liquor store, I've yet to hear/see a result. Good vid
Somebody snuck me a sample of this and I was so impressed, I bought it online. It ended up being $80 all in, but I’m not disappointed. This being their own distillate, I am excited for the future. Imagine this release with eight years.
They say average 5.5 years, but that’s not how age statements work. This is likely a 4 year bourbon. All the more impressive.
Where online. Might save myself a trip to KY and get online instead. Thanks
@@0369Kramer, I got mine from Uptown Spirits, but I googled and saw it on several sites.
@0369Kramer Seelbach's
What makes this specific bottle a "decanter"? People say old fitz comes in a decanter too but I'm not sure what makes these bottles different.
History? Yes, please.
$104.00 at a store in Lexington - Got mine for $65 at the source 🎉
I saw it at Liquor Barn in Lexington for $79.99.
Without a doubt, Frank August is the best looking bottle in the game. I think Baker's 7 is a really underrated bottle.
Marked up to 80$ buena park California
Have not seen this bottle anywhere and didn't want to pay secondary. Keeping my eyes peeled though.
Just found Batch 38 at 108 proof for $75 before tax. I hope it’s good.
90 dollars in one place 63 in another in Tville Ga
Hoping it will be available in TX
Just purchased this in Edmond, Oklahoma for $75
Make sure you hit Goodfellas when you visit Pepper. Decent Bourbon bar there… pizza is decent too!
Oh right, yes I have an unopened [still] of the bottle you ate reviewing
I'm surprised you didn't call out Amaretti di Saronno cookies for that almond note. 😉
Maybe too Italian. lol
I'm talkin' marzipan people-- Woo-hoo 😂😂!!So Jason, have you heard of Scotch 4 dummies? They mention aforementioned fruit A LOT in single malt scotch-- keep up the great reviews--Cheers from ETn Smoky Mtns area---
As far as taste, complexity, mouthfeel, and finish.... would you put this, Rare Breed, or OF1920 at the top of the value chart? I'd say triple bass but I think even blind, it would be fairly obvious which is which, so just your gut opinion would be nice lol
I gotta say. This may take out 1920 for me since it's become so banana heavy. Also at an average of 5.5 years old on the proper, it's the same age if not older than 1920. Rare breed would probably would still take it.
Found it for $75 good price??
Guess I’ll run back out and grab another.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Frootbat just increased their price , went from $70 to $100.
$64.99 @Liquor Barn in Louisville
Jason, it's a great bourbon and a grand slam for the price. Trouble is, next year's iteration will be north of $100 for sure; we'll never get this lucky again. Question for you: have you tried the Bhakta Armagnac Cask Finish that came out last year? Hearing lots and lots of good things and the ship has sailed it looks like on the BBC Chateau Laubade Batch 1...
I have and its as advertised.
@@TheMashandDrum Picked it up yesterday. NIce, but just a hint of bitterness (albeit a neck pour) on the transition from the palate to the finish. Saw a Bhakta Rye finished in Calvados casks while I was at the store... that's next...
$69 in upstate New York all the way up to 79.99
It is a nice bottle. I almost got one the other day at the grocery store and I regret passing on it.
The nicest regularly available bottle, though, is the 4R Single Barrel.
I got a batch 13 last week at The Party Source in Newport KY for $60.
You’re not supposed to tell everyone!!!!!!
Resale 90-100
I have batch 001, something must have changed because it isn't very good at all. I have given multiple samples out of it and everyone who got one didn't like it either.
Heard the same. Maybe they switched something up.
I have Batch 002. They must have fixed that. 😊
