I have been enjoying this bottle and singing it praise for several months. So good. James E Pepper decanter and Rebecca Creek Double Barrel Spanish Oak have been 2 great finds. 🥃
Same. I went to the pepper distillery for my 40th in early Dec. Not a fan of Pepper, but I tried this and immediately bought it without any hesitation. Great stuff.
@@PhantomLord187 agreed! It's substantially better than typical Pepper and it was my secret drinker for the last few months but now the flood of buyers will get after it.
I just picked up this bottle after watching your review and I’m so glad I did. Great flavors and proof point (mine is 107) in this batch #25 bottle. It’s become my new daily drinker. Thanks for your recommendation.
Just picked this bottle up today in Ohio as I was visits from work from Pa and boy does it hit! Thanks for the review and recommending this banger! 🔥🥃🤤
Found this for $65 at my local supermarket in northern California. Had one sip, smiled, and came here to check out your review. It's a remarkable pour. I'll be going back tomorrow to get another bottle. If you've ever had an almond croissant with that sweet, almond filling inside, you have an idea of what this bottle tastes like. Love the history lesson, too!
I just grabbed a couple of these today in the Chicago area for $69.99. The place i was at had 3...I grabbed two and left the last one for the next guy. TY for the review, m8!!
Just opened this bottle a week ago. It’s a really enjoyable, smooth vanilla & spice bomb. Definitely some subtle fruits mid palate. Great review my man!
I made a field trip to The Party Source on Saturday and scored a bottle of the James E. Pepper BP, and I did so based on Jason's enthusiastic recommendation. Much to my shock it was the ONLY bourbon bottle I scored at the Party Source as the selection was really sparse. That's the first time I've ever walked out of there spending under $100.
Great bottle! Picked one up about a month ago. My buddy had a pour at a bar and encouraged me to give it a try if given the chance in my area. Was on a hunt in Missouri and saw it on the shelf for 64.99. Definitely glad he recommended it!
I know this late to the game, but just popped mine and delightfully surprised. I do get some of the notes that you are describing, but also feel like there certainly may be some differences as well. Mine is batch #24 @ 107.6 proof. I guess my thought here was it could be cool if you were able to get your hands on 3-4 different batches, to blind them and see if there are indeed noticeable differences similar to you would see in single barrel releases. Love your stuff...love the history, keep up the great work...Cheers!
Spot on as usual! Picked up a bottle about a month ago and I quickly bought a back up. This is delicious and so much more complex than I thought it would be. Great review Jason! 👍🏽
Love this Bourbon their should be more available soon as they have resolved their bottle shortage! Looking forward to bunkering backups! Great Review Jason 🥃👍👋
Couldn't find this bottle at many local liquor stores in North Jersey. Imagine my surprise when I found it for $79 at my local ShopRite! I like it VERY much and am planning on using the decanter as an infinity bottle when finished!
Still looking for one but I have been enjoying their old pepper rye and bourbon. Great review and though I don't buy because of the bottle this is a nice-looking one.
I'm pleasantly surprised ... I ran across this bourbon yesterday and bought one. I feel like I'm ahead of the curve for once 😃my bottle is 53.7 and it says it is batch 0014.
I dumb lucked into that bottle when I visited the distillery in October and I was blown away. Unfortunately it’s not available in Indiana and I’m almost due for a replacement bottle. Hopefully they show up in Ohio and/or Michigan soon.
Hey I know I'm a little late but USA wine traders in saddle Brook has them for 59.99 I just bought a second one. They also have a 1792 bib for $35 which is nuts.
This was sitting on the shelves in northern Kentucky for the last couple months of 2023. Although the bottle was beautiful, I kept passing it up because there were few reviews at the time. Then Fred Minnick put it on his top 100, so I figured why not for $55? Honestly the quality of this blew me away. Like you said, it does not taste young at all. Compared to cask strength sourced MGP around this price and age, I would take the Pepper any day of the week. I'll also note there is a slight variation in proof by batch. I currently have Batch 008, it is 105.2 proof. The bottle you're showing at 08:14 is 105.6 proof. The Party Source had a lot of Batch 013 on the shelf last week for $58. I believe that might've been 105.4 proof. I'll likely swing by and pick it up because Batch 008 is running dangerously low.
Somebody snuck me a sample of this and I was so impressed, I bought it online. It ended up being $80 all in, but I’m not disappointed. This being their own distillate, I am excited for the future. Imagine this release with eight years. They say average 5.5 years, but that’s not how age statements work. This is likely a 4 year bourbon. All the more impressive.
Jason, it's a great bourbon and a grand slam for the price. Trouble is, next year's iteration will be north of $100 for sure; we'll never get this lucky again. Question for you: have you tried the Bhakta Armagnac Cask Finish that came out last year? Hearing lots and lots of good things and the ship has sailed it looks like on the BBC Chateau Laubade Batch 1...
@@TheMashandDrum Picked it up yesterday. NIce, but just a hint of bitterness (albeit a neck pour) on the transition from the palate to the finish. Saw a Bhakta Rye finished in Calvados casks while I was at the store... that's next...
As far as taste, complexity, mouthfeel, and finish.... would you put this, Rare Breed, or OF1920 at the top of the value chart? I'd say triple bass but I think even blind, it would be fairly obvious which is which, so just your gut opinion would be nice lol
I gotta say. This may take out 1920 for me since it's become so banana heavy. Also at an average of 5.5 years old on the proper, it's the same age if not older than 1920. Rare breed would probably would still take it.

Just now getting to this review. If you're in Lexington, the tour is great, but also stop at Costco! Currently has bottles priced at $52.

I'm glad I tracked one of these down. Was 69.99 but that slight bit over SRP is mainly due to NY State loving taxes.
I requested a bottle from our local liquor store, I've yet to hear/see a result. Good vid
