Great job, was tear down easier in the car? Only asking for future use as I plan to rebuild here in the future. great channel please keep up the work. I appreciate the guys who actually wrench on the car and not just start a channel and say this is the n54 and what you can do to it. Most of us are beyond that stage with a car made in 2007. Gj...
What did you set your piston to wall clearance at? I am using JE ultra series and I have the clearance set to .0050 inches. It looks like you have the entirely wrong piston. Or your bore conicity is way out of spec. The coating definitely wore off because of piston slap. Glad you decided to pull it out because that would've sent a piston through your block.
Im not trying to knock JE ...I'm sure there ultra series is awesome...but the batch they gave me was not quite what they should be lol. I simply ordered the JE kit for stock 84 mm bore and that's what they sent me. Legit almost a mm too small... Once I have factory pistons back in I will show you the difference.
@@335iN54Enthusiast Totaly understand. If they had sent me those pistons I would have been pissed. It would be interesting to know what size those crappy JE pistons were. At the point of measurement, 5mm above the bottom of the skirt vs the crown, right above the first ring. Maybe the piston taper is off. You should definetly write or call JE about their screw up they could've ruined your engine.
Clean and nett as usual. What compression ratio you were having with the aftermarket pistons? We would love to see more videos from you and are waiting for the single turbo story. You look a nice guy and very meticulous on what you are doing. Your garage is as clean as a clinic!
Thankyou so much I appreciate that bud. With those particular pistons I had the ratio was 9.2 :1. Stock is 10.2 :1. Don't worry more videos are coming especially with the big single turbo which I'll have within a few days.

Teardown is pretty easy in the car. As long as the crank doesn't need to be removed.
I just canceled my order on JE pistons this is worrisome, instead I ordered a set of Mahle Motorsports pistons
Good... JE didn't do anything for me even after the fact.... Avoid
Great videos and sick garage! Do you have any experience working on N55?
Thankyou. Just N54

Do you think it is work making the block a closed block if you are trying to get to 1k hp
Absolutely
In that situation did you have any problems when driving lose any power any check engine lights from small pistons
No lights on at all. But it did seem to be not quite as peppy as it should.
@@335iN54Enthusiast I seen that piston gap you talking about seems big im supriesed you didn't lose any power
Definitely some power loss
@@335iN54Enthusiast and no smoking from the exhaust?
Just curious, did you have piston slap noises when you start the car?
Does it go away when it’s warm?
Actually I did not hear any piston slap.
which big single you went with?
On3 performance. It's the most affordable kit.
@@335iN54Enthusiast Thanks! was thinking you went with new DR700
Nic 👌
Wow - did not expect to see your engine back apart. Good detective work. Very odd that the coating was flaking off - poor quality!!!!
Can i hav or buy your old turbos?
I have them listed for 1k CDN.
I concur, way too small.
