That's why j cole is cool. He has an actual drummer live and the new live sections really help the songs out. I'll never understand why more rappers don't do this in the studio. What comes to mind is a song "ground zero" from MOP back in the 2000s, they did full gangster rap to metal riffs and drums. Sick stuff
I'm actually impressed. Your parts were really good, very fitting and added so much to those songs. And you managed to avoid overplaying and "overrocking" it. This was honestly great man!
I couldn't agree with you more. He's clearly a versatile drummer who actually listens and understand the dynamics of the songs to blend his drum composition seamlessly in the song without sounding weird. Truly a criminally underrated drummer. Imma check his band out.

Gabe: Let's spice things up without stepping on the toes of the artist. Also Gabe: *Proceeds to play 16th note hihat beat with 32nd note fills and then a double kick beat* Jokes aside though.. Song sounds so much better now in my opinion!
@@joshuafischer220 haters? Come on man I've been a fan to Gabe since forever ago! I actually can still remember his old intro groove with open hihat beat and the tuplet fill at the end haha! I'd never hate on him.
How about having all of those (and maybe more) as a drum cover on spotify? Would love to hear that more often since I love to have the variation! All of them kind of became a new song and gives me the feeling to now be able to hear them more often, which makes it even better.
Wow awesome video! This needs to become a new rap genre. I would listen to rap more if they used real drums with this type of energy and drum dynamics.
The song Humble with an entire rock band is wonderful! Our Last Night does a reimagined of it as a heavy metal song. It’s really cool to see your take on just the drums and how they alone make the song so much better!
Im not a drummer but I've been watching a lot of your videos to try and improve my production/composition of beats/ rhythms on my Akai MPC ONE. Happy to say I've been learning a lot despite not actually playing an acoustic drum set. Thanks!
In a rap song, the vocals are the most important part. Everything about the vocals is the entire point of the song. Every instrument serves the vocals. A good rapper not only focuses on the content and the rhyme structure, but also the delivery and how the structure serves the song. A good rapper plays his voice like a rhythm instrument. If you look at a rapper's voice like a snare drum soloing on the track, you'll see that the structure and dynamics are already there.
You made all of these sound way better....dam nice work Gabe. I would love to hear some rap songs like these with a solid double kick, I reckon that would sound awesome.
this video was epic! i never thought you could be so creative with rock/rap! Great stuff!! I also love your way of analyzing things and how you give great ideas!
I love all of your videos, definitely a huge inspiration. I have to ask: do you edit all your videos on your own? That’s some insane skill in itself, let alone you’re unbelievable drumming.
I think that with the faster rappers it would be cool to alternate between slowing the drums down to about half their time signature, matching the time signature, and doubling their time signature. That would let the rapper and his chops shine while accenting the rhythm with the drums and making the sound coming from the stage much more rounded and complete. You are awesome, keep it up!
i have a hard time listening to most rap, and i’m thinking now it’s because i’m a drum junkie?! this was amazing! would love more full versions?!? they were all too good to pick a fave
Here's an idea: add MODERN rock drums over Rock Classics. You could time travel a Zeppelin, ACDC, Hendrix, or even a Def Leppard track into current-day drumming spiciness. Another idea would be to see if you can change any song's Genre just by changing the drumming.
This was dope asf... I dig it... They should have like the censored version, explicit version and then a live instrument version... I would definitely like having the live instrument version overall... I'm sure there's money to be made if someone was to do so... I'd be on board for sure. Thanks for the demonstration it was cold-blooded. You killed that eminem.
Oh yeah that’s what I’m talking about! You’re crushing the beat! If those rap studio trick “artists” used real instruments and musicians they’d be next level!
I love adding drums to rap songs too! Or generally any song without an acoustic drum track generally bc I can hear myself playing while listening to that music at a hover volume but also I can be more creative as opposed to just copying another rock drummer since there’s usually a sound I’m trying to emulate from them. I definitely think you made the Eminem song 1000x better. You’re awesome! DBO has been so helpful and I got my I Prevail sticks today too 🥰 I love them. 🤟🏼
There you go! I'm doing this with and African Djembe. I "graduated" to hand drums circa 1998… played everything with sticks and anything else you can beat a drum with since like 1985 in 5th grade. What I'm doing is part of a new tribalism
I'm not going to lie. Every time I hear a new pop/rap song... I always go to UA-cam and listen to Drum covers to that specific song. Just so I can listen to other flavas of the song. We have the ability to make songs unforgettable...let's start to it. Also let's not forget the Drums are literally the HEARTBEAT of music. All love from Atlanta #FreeTheDrums
For trap songs, a cranked up popcorn snare drum would work waaay better sound wise. With that being said, i like to hear and see from a rock drummers perspective so yea i dig these🦾🔥🔥🔥
Yo Gabe, love this video man. Could you maybe show an extension of your version of "humble"? That was really cool! I really like what you're doing here. It's given me ideas on how to incorporate rock drums in a rap situation. Kudos man. Keep up the good work.
you’re obviously a talented musician and i love rock , prog rock and jazz too but hiphop beats are usually catchy , simple and concert-ready . it’s just an easy beat to let the rappers lyrics shine but if you want some rap songs with better instrumentation’s kendrick lamars to pimp a butterfly , kanye west’s yeezus are great albums which are pretty differnt from most rap albums
Props to the camerman, that was amazing.
He's awesome!
Thank you!
I want an album of you playing rock drums over rap and hip hop beats like oh my good gosh these were dope bro
YES
Yes!!!
Omg yesss please I will support it
That double kick in rap god sounds SICK!
Thank you!!
Agreed, that was incredible.
Is there a full version of your edition of rapgod omg I need this

Man the double kicks mirroring Ems rhythmic patterns are top notch. 👌
It's satisfying to see modern hip hop played on an acoustic kit.

That double bass fill in the Kendrick jam was so good I almost spit my drink out and had to rewind for a second go around
Hahaha love that

11:35 that was sick! But I was expecting waiting for the next part is you playing the fast double bass drum on a fastest rap part of the song.
I’m really diggin these rap drum covers. Killer work as always, Gabe!
THIS is why i've missed live music!!
This is my new favorite thing to do, don’t know why I never did this before but it’s given me an appreciation for rap….

Yeah! Drums definately make Hip Hop songs better. My own channel is dedicated to exactly that purpose 🙏
That second cut was great.
Good job. Not a rap fan, this could change that.
🙏🏽🙏🏽
You should do either California Love or Real Slim Shady
As a Cypress Hill fan, I dig rock/metal beats on hip-hop.
You made all of these sound way better....dam nice work Gabe.
I would love to hear some rap songs like these with a solid double kick, I reckon that would sound awesome.

Proof that there's no replacing a human on a set of acoustic drums.... So much more organic than a midi-man :-) YES! Thanks for this Gabe!
The rap god section is awesome, I actually would have loved the original song so much more if it had drums like this!
This could have 100 episodes i love it

Bro those were all good but your drums on Rap God blew me away. Especially when you came in with the double kicks! Fucking nailed it.
The camera work syncing with the beat is the greatest part of this video. Drums need to evoke movement
i have a hard time listening to most rap, and i’m thinking now it’s because i’m a drum junkie?! this was amazing! would love more full versions?!? they were all too good to pick a fave
Popstar was a great adaptation - the cymbal hits and floor tom bits in the verse 👌
🔥🔥🔥 YOU made me EXCITED about the art of live music AGAIN!!!!
Crazy how good a rapper with a drummer at all times would be
I agree with you, the parts that you added make the songs better. I like this idea.
Thank you!
Yes PLEASE Gabe! That’s such a dope idea, would love to see more.
That drake song you redid is insanely in the pocket, simple and feels great. I loved that one in particular.
I LIKE IT WHEN GOOD DRUMMERS ADD DRUMS TO SONGS.
Like the beats man. Been watching you for a while, and dig your drumming. Keep the energy flowing!!!
So correct!!!!!
Your cameraman is absolutely amazing,
You’re a superb musician - I don’t even play drums I just love your content!
It's like that because like you said its not a real drummer, it's just a track, some rappers, not many use a band on live shows, then its different.
Add rock drums to everything
Humble, first part of Popstar and Rap God are really nice!

Killing it Gabe! I find myself doing this when I hear I songs in stores and stuff.
