That was awesome! I might suggest maybe being a little less scripted. At least sound a little more natural. Your my favorite tho so do whatever you want I’ll be happy😂
I really appreciate the kind words dude. Coming from you, it means the world. I had an absolute blast working with you on this video! You provided so much insight and value, I'm so grateful! Plus, you freaking KILLED your drum part dude!! Those 32nd notes on the double hi hat were on such another level. Plus, your overall part creation is just unreal. 🔥🔥 Hopefully this was just the beginning man!!
MANN The groove in 6:58 is so sick!!! You and Matt both crushed the cover!!! Also ngl now I have a even more base of being creative to drum beats after learning from different drummers. This cover still slap tho. Looking forward for more collabs! (Luke Holland next?)
Both play throughs were siiiccckkkkk. I’m so glad you got to collaborate with Matt. He’s been a huge inspiration to me since I started playing and I can attribute a lot of my progress to DBO academy. It would be sweet to see a future collab with El Estepario Siberanio or Brandon Scott 😄
We are so happy to have you inside DBO Academy!! It was so fun collaborating with Matt and yes, I'd love to collaborate with Estepario and Brandon both in thee future!
AHHHHHHHH such an insane video. I remember posting a comment ages ago after your drum cover that you guys should collaborate and now this video is out!!! You two are my drumming idols and this has made my day! Thank you. And DBO is insane and I’m super thankful to be a part of it
Thank you SO MUCH, for including the first pass through. It takes a lot of courage to upload that, but I think it is inspiring. Often times, as a prog/metal drummer I feel like branching out, trying some Jazz or whatever but I sound exactly like that. I know my neighbours can hear me, people on the street, idk anyone really and most importantly I can hear myself and I feel completely inadequate. 15 years of drumming and THIS is the best I can do? Time to stay in my lane, and then I never go back to take five or whatever it is I attempted. To see that someone I respect as much as you struggles just like me on the first pass and is unashamedly owning it is unbelievably liberating. Again, THANK YOU!
I really appreciate the thoughtful comment! I can totally relate to those feelings! The reality is, that's just part of the process when learning something new. That's the addicting challenge of drumming. Being able to work through something and then FINALLY get it is the best feeling. But the struggle is the most important part of the journey! #KeepPushingForward my friend!
My both favourite drummers in this video 😍🖤 Matts style is incredible. You did an amazing job here and i think this is one of your best covers we have seen on your channel Gabe 🤘🏻
Love how you showed your first play through, the honesty there is impressive. I often look the same way at a kit listening through the first time thinking about playing it 🤣
@@hungryshark97 Was just about to comment this… This entire video feels exaggerated and like he’s saying he was struggling a lot more than he actually was. TL;DR the entire video felt fake to me
Lol that was so obviously exaggerated. Most average drummers could make it through a basic run through of this tune. Watching someone who is clearly amazing at drums try play badly on purpose just to create a narrative for a video is painfully obvious.
@@crumblebee6728 I agree there was some exaggeration for effect especially towards the end, but for a first play through your reference is key. I'd be willing to bet that even a seasoned drummer would trip up easily if they're trying to lock onto Em's cadence on this track as a starting point... it's bonkers.
So sick @Gabe & @Matt - could definitely hear the *distinctness* between each of y'alls styles/sound. Please do more content like this! Also, maybe you can release some of the "real" 24Hour practice footage. (Bloopers included) 🤘😎
I really liked this drum cover and the way you described the importance of the hand speed lessons (which I have started watching and getting a feel for). One of my favorite approaches that I have heard for drummers doing covers of songs is following the vocals. You tend to hear this more with death metal drummers, but I think would apply very nicely to fast rap songs as well. For example: The fast breakdown with the vocal lines could strictly be double kick strokes while the snare, toms and cymbals can be used to still preserve the back beat or to add more complexity to the breakdown.
8:16 Imagine Rap god was a metal song called " Nu Metal God". Because Rap and Rock combined but with double pedals in it. You just nailed a double pedal part, Gabe! How many double pedal notes hit?
Looks like im late to the party 0:10 haha lol i aldready knew who it was. Like u can easily tell but seeing those 2 hi hats. Both of you killed it. Drove me bonkers ,abolutely chrushed it.
Ok... now that I saw the whole thing... WOW! you nailed it! I've seen many of your videos. In this one, I saw the Matt McGuire influence in your rendition. One question I wish you asked him... "Once you got notes figured out... and the sound created... how do you create the performance?" Matt McGuire plays fast and super tight drums and has a performance that goes along with it that makes it hard to take your eyes off the drummer. Does he put lots of time into that as well?
Gaaaabe! Brandon when? lol Thanks for this, that was such a treat! You're really up there with the greats. Matt-Brandon-Gabe collab when? Cheers! Stay safe. :)
I love this cover, but I would also love to see an explicit version because that cuts out a lot of the song making it clean. I enjoy the whole song for the lyrical masterpiece it is, with the explicit parts adding meaning and flavour to the lyrics
At the last 10 sec I guessed it ... It's really Matt... I request him on last cover he heart my comment I knew it😁😁😁😀😀😀thank you Matt Mc Guire and Gabe!!!
@@DrumBeatsOnline 😁😁 Thank you for bringing us!! I really loved it your parts !! He was my inspiration!! Through your lesson till now I learned a lot thanks you Gabe!!
The cadence of the song requires a more consistent tempo and intricacy of playing similar to the beat/groove played at 6:50 It felt like the rests and halftime sections were random and out-of-sync with the overall energy, flow and rhythm of the song.
@@DrumBeatsOnline I like the time restraint parameter. Drumming is very similar to architecture. Sometimes I'll visit a site just to absorb the context and the natural vibe. Then I try to restrain myself from adding anything that doesn't blend in harmoniously. It felt like some of the "build-up" floor tom or snare rudiment bars should have been pulled forward a measure or two, to transition into the halftime beats. Anyway, hopefully just some constructive criticism. Obviously, you are a monster on the set. My playing is nowhere near as consistent or precise as yours, but I love your passion, style of playing, and fun exercises 😜

The cadence of the song requires a more consistent tempo and intricacy of playing similar to the beat/groove played at 6:50

Fair enough! Only had a limited amount of time, so I'm sure I would have been able to create something a little more streamlined otherwise.
