I don't see many "extremists" with Western weapons..... Did Johnny ever think that maybe just maybe most of these countries want to buy weapons from the USA?
@@davidjames0 Nah, he's right. The world is more at peace now than it has ever been in history. But I don't think it's the military industrial complex, the current theory is actually (again, somewhat counter-intuitively) that nuclear weapons are the reason that there are fewer wars.
@darkwoodmovies Yes but everyone forgets one thing. The global market We are so interconnected by now that waging war against one nation is effectively shooting yourself in the foot. In my eyes complete peace could be accomplished without perverse weapons selling.
As a Chinese trying to speed up the video a bit, there are four pillars of the US as a superpower: 1. military hegemony 2. financial hegemony 3. cultural hegemony 4. technological hegemony You have 3 more videos that could be a series, and of course your animation and narrative is top notch, well done!
As as American, it is subtly implied that all countries (primarily the most powerful) do the exact same thing such as China. They are all seeking 1. military hegemony 2. financial hegemony 3. cultural hegemony 4. technological hegemony However, if forced to pick which country to have this influence I would much rather have it be a country that values human rights more than less. I would be fine if for example it turned out Denmark was the world’s superpower instead of the US than have it be an authoritarian regime such as Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea.

Being the worlds largest weapons dealer provides some benefits that aren't mentioned in this video: - the ability to withhold support/parts/etc over a country to keep them in line - ability to use money from other countries for R&D and driving down costs (F-35 is a great example) It's also important to note that the decision not to sell weapons to a country doesn't just lose out on the benefits, it also pushes them towards our rivals (Russia, China), giving them those benefits. There are few downsides to selling weapons to other countries. They're just going to buy them elsewhere anyway, giving up the benefits for the US and providing those benefits to Russia/China instead. The real decision is whether or not to sell advanced weapons that can't be obtained from a rival country. Those transactions provide the most benefit in influence/money/etc. Withholding them does have a cost too though, in relations and potential bolstering of competitor programs (imagine Saudi Arabia giving Russia $30b for SU-57s instead of the US F-35).
This is something most people overlook. The US only makes up about 35% of global arms trades. European countries like France and Germany also sell and manufacture many weapons. If the US stopped all arms trades immediately, the cut off countries would simply buy from other suppliers.
Most of the other manufacturers are also reliant on some US components. Also 35% is a huge amount, especially since some of the most critical parts are US based, certain radars, missiles etc
@@sadiqkhawaja7019 35% is a lot, yes, but the video makes it seem as if America is the sole distributor, when that is simply not the case. America stopping all arms exports to other countries would simply cause other countries/companies to pick up the slack, returning us to square one. Taking out a major provider will not solve the underlying issue. If AT&T dissolved, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others would fill the hole AT&T left. The only way to stop international arms trades would be to outlaw it. This would never be written into international law, and even if it did it would not stop countries from aquiring weapons. They could either produce arms domestically or purchase them on the newly booming black market. And some countries wouldn't respect these international laws (China, North Korea, Russia, ect) and create an imbalance of power as a result. Imagine if Ukraine wasn't allowed to receive foreign military aid. Eastern Europe would have very little military strength of it were not for foreign arms deals. And what do you think Russia would do next with the pitifully weak Eastern European countries?

Native Americans came from Asia 20,000 years ago when Europeans came from the Middle-East some 40,000 years ago. This land is their one and only ASSET. Their beloved motherland that their ancestors forebears had lived through thick and thin, and endured through hardships of all sorts for so long. With their main ASSET being taken away from them, their IDENTITY, their DIGNITY, their POPULATION and most of all, their FUTURE are all but gone. That's a sad truth indeed. 😔 All they Native American people need is their beloved motherland back, the lands that their ancestors' forebears had lived through thick and thin, endured through hardships and all for tens of thousands of years. May I ask, why not let Native Americans have Europe, since Europeans have had both North/South America Continents already; a fair deal? Now that you have mapped where the arms are going, could you also map all of the arms manufacturing facilities that you refer to at the end of the video and connect them to this web of overseas transfers? It would be interesting to see which states and their representatives are connected to which overseas deal.
It would be literally thousands and thousands of companies, including small businesses that employ like 5 people to the big ones that we all know the names of. For instance there could be a company that makes washing machines but then they get a contract to build electric motors to run a minigun or to stamp a component of a rifle. That kind of thing is so prevalent.

The guy who said we need to find a different way to influence is right. These defense manufacturers are pumping out weapons because the government is creating demand in arms deals. We need them manufacturing something else. Weapons cannot be our biggest export.
No it isn’t. Police promotes peace. The larger adversary will discourage the smaller adversary from attacking. It is literally the only way to ensure peace. Unless you think diplomacy actually works. Good luck trying that with basically any country in the Middle East.
In essence "We only create unrest, supply both sides (one unofficially) to make a dent in each other, buy cheap property, offer loans to rebuild. What's your problem?"
Johnny, if you''re interested in the evolution of warfare there was a book released last year by Jason Lowery called Softwar. The government had it removed from production, so it might be hard to get your hands on. You can find some of his youtube videos to get a sense of what he is talking about in terms of the evolution of warfare. As we evolve deeper into the digital domain, we need a way to project power through cyberspace in order to keep the balance in the cost/benefit of attack calculation. As we find modern ways to project power in these new domains (digital, space, etc.), we will learn to evolve the battles so they benefit the world rather than destroy it. For example, moving from an environment of mutual annihilation to one that incentivizes mutual cooperation (you get more when you cooperate with others, rather than take what is theirs). I think you'd enjoy hearing his full thesis because I feel it follows onward from where this video ends. Always great content you're producing. Thank you for it
Yes. These countries/companies (add in India) sell much cheaper weapons for the same purpose of murder. Why are the overpriced usMIC items still so popular (would be a nice addition to the discussion)?
That looks like regions with grain boundaries. I would want to see a map of conflict zones overlaid on to this one. I bet there would be some interesting correlations.
Amazing work Johnny Harris as usual. In this video, I learned that keeping the balance of power and maintaining the status quo is by selling weapons is more important for world peace than stopping an ongoing genocide.
Where were you when 600,000 people died and 100K+ women raped in a 2 year long civil war that started in 2021 in Tigray, Ethiopia? But you’re here defending a terrorist group that actually warranted a military response after killing 100s of civilians if not a 1000+
The fact that Johnny made an astonishing video like this and posted it for free on UA-cam for people all over the world to watch is mind blowing. Thanks genius
I think saying that the US does X without also saying that literally every other country with an arms industry does it kind of downplays why the US does it.

“WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.” ― Smedley D. Butler, War is a Racket (1935)
Urban warfare will always have large numbers of civilian casualties. Many civilians were killed in Iraq when fighting moved from the deserts and went into the streets. I don't believe that Israel is deliberately targeting civilians in Gazar or that saudi arabia was deliberately targeting civilians in yemen because if this were the case then the civilian deaths would be many times higher. Having said this i must also say that i do not support any war or voilence no what form or shape it may take.
Yemen is a vast area where civilians (those not held by the Houthis) can escape the fighting, unlike Gaza where the territory is small, the population is huge and Hamas or other organizations are within the civilian population
Eisenhower: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." "This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."
I am a senior analyst in this industry, and I feel compelled to inform viewers this analysis and “subjective estimating” was poorly performed. This is rather unprofessional and would not hold much water with most in Washington, let alone other governments. This is garbage “investigative” reporting, and industry standards sources are not cited. Do your homework next time. If you want to make clickbait, take notes from darker corners of the internet. Your sponsors should be embarrassed for funding this type of smooth brain behavior.
You missed some of the other most important reasons for selling weapons. 1. The more we sell, the more affordable the platform for the US military. For instance the f35 program is dependent on our allies buying planes to lower the cost of the entire program. 2. By keeping other companies dependent on us for weapons, we are preventing Russia and China from supplies those weapons to the same countries, making those countries dependent on Russia and China. We are denying Russia and China weapons sales. 3. Buy selling weapons platforms around the world, we create a worldwide inventory of parts and ammunition. This is useful when we need them and reduces the stockpile that is kept inside the US. 4. Our security depends on keeping military factories running. If we have to go to war, we can’t then decide to start up factories, hire workers, and start producing weapons. These supply chains have to stay somewhat active. By supplying other countries, our military supply chains can stay “warm” and able to respond if we need them. You made a lot of leaps and assumptions in your video to back up the narrative you wanted to share. There are many things you could’ve done to present a less biased video.
17:05 what a great point, weapons don’t just go away. This is where policy matters. Buybacks, lending, storage, use agreements, etc are already parts of weapons trade, but could be better.
Policy is everything. I'm not sure it makes sense to have 45 U.S. military bases supporting Authoritarian Regimes. Our First Principle should revert back to becoming an exemplary Democracy first.
Not a single mention of World War One, World War 2, The Korean War and the Cold War which necessitated such a vast expenditure on weapons. Very one sided as always in order to get to his conclusion, in a very short amount of time, with flashy maps.
It's disgusting to see how far the world has come. It's a never ending cycle where the worst side of the humanity is literally being exposed for years and thus we are all accepting it and letting it happen...
Such a good video. One of my favorite speeches in American history, President Eisenhower's Farewell Address. He basically states that having a permeant arms industry is a threat to our democracy, it gives over to much power.
What do you think should replace the massive power vacuum that would come from a hypothetical world without American military hegemony? Because I'm not wanting to go back the Era of Great Power conflicts that led to the World Wars.
Honestly man these videos have become so cringe. Y'all care way too much about how you look on camera. Lower the lighting, lay off the makeup, quit acting so cringe.

When it comes to the weapons trade, the most relevant questions are as follows: To what extent is the weapons supplier responsible for how sold weapons are used against the preconditions in principle? How can the responsibility for weapons used be divided among those who sell them and those who use them?
I learned all this on a Rogan episode years ago. They went into good detail on the spread of manufacturing across all states. I can't for the life of me remember who he had on that podcast.

As a Chinese trying to speed up the video a bit, there are four pillars of the US as a superpower:
1. military hegemony
2. financial hegemony
3. cultural hegemony
4. technological hegemony
You have 3 more videos that could be a series, and of course your animation and narrative is top notch, well done!
As as American, it is subtly implied that all countries (primarily the most powerful) do the exact same thing such as China. They are all seeking
1. military hegemony
2. financial hegemony
3. cultural hegemony
4. technological hegemony
However, if forced to pick which country to have this influence I would much rather have it be a country that values human rights more than less. I would be fine if for example it turned out Denmark was the world’s superpower instead of the US than have it be an authoritarian regime such as Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea.

Being the worlds largest weapons dealer provides some benefits that aren't mentioned in this video:
- the ability to withhold support/parts/etc over a country to keep them in line
- ability to use money from other countries for R&D and driving down costs (F-35 is a great example)
It's also important to note that the decision not to sell weapons to a country doesn't just lose out on the benefits, it also pushes them towards our rivals (Russia, China), giving them those benefits.
Lol, " only 35%" that's more than one third of production for the entire world.

Johnny on Israel: the US doesn't approve of how they conduct themselves
Great Journalism.

Eisenhower warned us
Eisenhower:
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
"This world in arms is not spending money alone.
