The US military is planning to have a transformative year in the Pacific. To them, that means militarizing the region. More ships, more planes, more troops, more missiles, and more agreements with allies - all aimed at containing China and their ambitions of power.

you still need to give someone something if you're selling it to them. I think the way it was phrased in the video was to signify how incredible it is that the USA is handing over top secret technology to Australia. Its an extremely landmark piece of history that the USA is "freely" supplying technology for the Australian Navy to use as they see fit. It wasn't '"free", but it was "given freely"; as in there are no strings attached and we fully own and operate these subs ourselves.

Hey Johnny, just a slight correction. The Philippines is not claiming that certain areas of the South China Sea are Philippine territorial waters. Under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which the Philippines is a signatory to, a country can only claim up to 12 nautical miles from its baselines as its territorial waters. However, the UNCLOS also provides that the distance from 12 nautical miles, up to 200 nautical miles from the baseline is the Exclusive Economic Zone. This is the portion which the Philippines calls the West Philippine Sea. This was affirmed in 2016 by a ruling by an Arbitral Tribunal constituted under the UNCLOS which ruled in favor of the Philippines against China. The same ruling also held that the nine-dash line claimed by China does not have any basis in international law. Not surprisingly, China does not honor this ruling. The US also is not able to completely support the ruling because it is not a signatory to the UNCLOS. As a result, China's Coast Guard regularly harass Filipino fishermen peacefully fishing in our exclusive economic zone. There was even one incident where a Chinese Coast Guard ship rammed into a Filipino fishing vessel and left the crew floating in the sea.
As for the training of the US and Philippine militaries, the most recent Balikatan (which is the Filipino term meaning "shoulder-to-shoulder") Exercises held just this year simulated live fire exercises at sea, including drone shoot downs and targeting and sinking a ship at sea, off of Palawan island. Pretty strong signals to China, I think.

BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subject to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.

    • @cythiahan8455
      @cythiahan8455 9 місяців тому +5

It's interesting to learn more about the discussions and proposals around BRICS nations and their potential use of gold. There are several reasons why people may choose to buy gold, including its historical use as a store of value and means of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Additionally, gold can offer diversification benefits to investment portfolios, as it tends to have a low correlation with other asset classes like stocks and bonds. However, it's important to note that investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for everyone. and investors should carefully consider their investment objectives, risk tolerance, and financial situation before making any decision.

@@ABb-eu1jk Since 1898 to 2016, there has been a Philippine movement for US statehood in one form or another. The US did not take it seriously nor did the majority of the Philippine populace. I was not advocating for statehood. Not even for becoming a US territory. Do you think, say, Indonesia will want to be a US state or territory? No? Then why would you think the Philippines will?
Calling China a bully is just playing a word game? "Bullying is the use of force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception (by the bully or by others) of an imbalance of physical or social power. This imbalance distinguishes bullying from conflict. Bullying is a subcategory of aggressive behavior characterized by hostile intent, imbalance of power and repetition over a period of time." (Wikipedia on Bullying)
Ermmm. So what do you call the actions of humongous China (which is economically and militarily superior) to continuously intimidate, harass and encroach on the territory of tiny Philippines? If that is not bullying, I don't know what is.

It should be noted that escalation has already happened: when China started dredging and built up military bases in the South China sea in 2014. They completed the first military runway in 2015.
This isn't a he said she said situation. In this case, China said it loud and clear and the surrounding countries are just responding. I also distinctly remember the Philippines voicing insecurity over the Mutual Defense Treaty with the USA when they asked for help then and only got platitudes. of ambiguity.
Amidst all the inevitable both sides-ism framing, the countries requesting this type of escalations are being requested by the actual countries being affected. The USA, ever the opportunist, is happy to oblige as well as the partner countries requesting aid. The degree of bullying that China has been doing in the region is not Uncle Sam's doing. Indeed, there were actually signs that the USA was pulling away back in the 2010s.

I came to say this, though I would not have articulated it quite as well as you have. Thank you.
It's the same as NATO expansion. Those countries REQUESTED to be part of NATO, out of fear of a large, belligerent country.
At the absolute worst, this is countries choosing the lesser of two evils. At best, this is smaller countries trusting NATO/US to help maintain their sovereignty. Either way, these are countries choosing NATO/US to help defend them from a country that is an actual threat to them.

Well, it's easy to blame the US when there are military bases literally outside of their country.
It is good to understand history from as early as the Qing dynasty to today to understand china's mentality. They are restoring their former glory including the lands stolen from them by western powers. British with Hong Kong, Portuguese with Macau, etc.
The spratly islands and similar was a brilliant move by them to counter US aggression in those areas to avoid being choked such as how this video laid out Japan's moves to contain China (orchestrated by the US of course).

Yes, the US does respond to that request because it suits their interest, but the US is not imposing its will onto those other nations. As a Taiwanese born American, this video brings me immense anxiety. I understand the perspective of the Taiwanese, Chinese and also US. If a “conflict” aka war breaks out, I feel like my cultural identity and the identity of others like me will be so painful and conflicting. Not to mention the bloodshed. I’m scared. This video frightened me to the core of who I am.

Americans, just imagine the following mirror: China does the same you are doing but in Latam, or the Caribbean, circling the US with all these bases, troops and equipment. Just image a Chinese base in Venezuela or another Central America country. Or choking the Panama Canal. Or Brazil being armed with Chinese submarines. I wonder how would you react to this very hypothetical situation? Taking that into consideration, do you think CHINA is overreacting to Western presence ? Important disclaimer: I fully understand what the US is doing there, the historical and geopolitical reasons, I’m not taking a position here. But let’s put things into perspective as an theoretical exercise. Would love to know your comments bellow. (Great video Johnny, awesome work)

    Counteraction Arguement:
China owns all major ports in Shri Lanka, Indonesia, and Australia. They have troops in Canada and Mexico training all the time near US borders. They own 98% of Africa via construction debts. They have been constructing man-made islands in the Pacific for literally decades... just saying, chicken or the egg argument here, who originally instigated the preliminary invasion first?
