Your right Terry, a huge part of the time it takes me to process firewood is spent splitting. It could be worth the upgrade just to free up more time, but knowing me I’d just use it making more firewood instead of my honey do list😂. Take care-Tony
Hey ,Tony. Great help, Austin. Great camera work, Natalie. Awesome show of sportsmanship, folks. Having fun and spending time with the kids, you guys won this one. Kenny Happy birthday.
Happy Birthday 🎂🎊🎁🎉🎈 Tony. Thank you for the shout out. What’s nice about this challenge is that it shows different techniques that everyone uses and also what the other brands have to offer. You did great.
Awesome! I've got a Speeco which is identical to your splitter. So glad someone had the guts to show the machine "we in the real world" use. LOL. We can always dream right? Isn't it painful to watch those machines? I feel like Mountain Top split a face cord in the time mine cycles once. Hah! But I'm so pissed off.......at myself. I can't believe after 10 years on that machine, I wasn't smart enough ..........To tie a string to the freakin" log jams to shorten the cycle! Thanks so much for the High Tech Hack. God I'm stupid. I mean really! That's so freakin' simple, its genious. I, am apparently not. 40 minutes ain't bad, Man. Not bad on a "real" machine. My wife and I are happy if we can split a full cord (3 stoves/face) in 3-4 hours if we're set up well. And....happy when it's done. Thanks again for not being discouraged from the challenge just because you don't own own a 20 thousand dollar machine. I just finished up what I have cut and only just found this challenge tonight or My wife and I would go out this weekend (for our anniversary) and do it up. Kind of a side bet for those of us with "real" splitters. I hope a few more people will do it. I really do. Of course, we don't make videos either, so that would be a challenge too. Anyway thanks again, strong work!
Thanks for the kind words! This challenge was fun, I thought I’d bring a little more realistic version for the average guy. The stoke limiter was a combination of ideas I’ve seen on UA-cam and I combined to make it work for my application. Thanks for watching I appreciate it, take care-Tony
Good job finally some small profitable firewood done for this challenge. A ton of it has been big stove or boiler size wood. Thanks for showing the type of wood you need to sell! Well done!
Well done Tony and Austin! Glad to see more channels giving it a go! This has been fun. Happy birthday! Nice splits produced. Mountain Top Outdoors is going to run the Ultra this weekend I believe and Mike from KNL is going to run the Axis!
Great job Tony and Austin. A good practical example of the typical homeowner style splitter. At a steady pace like that you would do a cord in 2 hours… not bad! I’m going to run my Wolfe Ridge 28C in the next week or so. I think it will be a good comparison of the entry level commercial splitter vs. the $20,000+ machines that have smoked this challenge!
TC and the Helpers, I am for sure going to borrow your stroke limiter idea only thing I see that I may have problems with is cutting wood at the same length so it fits, I can see the time difference cause I use a County Line splitter also but I have the grade below yours, GREAT WORK, P.S. comical grade log splitter gave a good laugh.
Hey Ben! The stroke limiter works good, I have it set to stop around 17 ish inches. That seems to give me enough wiggle room for the length difference. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Yes , I would like to upgrade one day also . I really like the rugged made or the Wolfridge resplitter . I have all intentions to be at PB this year . I want to see all the equipment .
Great job TCO crew! Nice camera work Natalie👊🏻 I have been enjoying these 1/3 cord challenge vids. It was great to see one of us in the boxer club in the challenge. Really a great time Tony! I need to source some firewood so maybe Evan and I can fire up the ole boxer and throw our hat in the ring🤷♂️ Take care Tony👊🏻🍻
Thanks Todd, it was fun having the gang helping in the wood yard! This challenge is awesome, it’s nice to see everyone come together for a little friendly competition. I also give the viewers exposure to a ton of different splitters and splitting styles. Take care bud 👊🏻🍻🔥🪵
I have not filmed me doing the face-cord challenge yet. However, I can consistently do a face-cord of good wood in 30 minutes with my Splitfire 2265. Check it out if you are in the market for an affordable bump up. It is the safest splitter on the market with a 3.5-second split time and has a log lift. All at an affordable price. Carpe Diem!
Andrew at Eastonmade also did the challenge with a 24D and beat Mountain Top Outdoors time. He recorded a time of 3:24. Good job on your challenge with your splitter.
I would like to find a 4 way that would work on my splitter. I haven’t heard good things about the one that TS sells for my splitter. Thanks for watching I appreciate it! Take care-Tony
Great video Tony! Very interesting to see just how long it really takes with a box store splitter. I have never timed it with mine. I like how you split the pieces the same size you usually do. Thanks for sharing👍👍
Thanks Rick! I thought it would give a good perspective for guys like me running the box store splitters. It was nice to get the kiddos out in the wood yard, they are so busy with sports and school it’s hard to make it happen. Take care my friend!
Not a bad time for a box store splitter. I know our brute splitter does a face cord in about the same time if we work together, but working alone, it's almost an hour. Have a happy birthday and stay hydrated. 🍻
Hey Tony, I did face cord challenge solo with my YardMax 25ton. That stroke limiter is a sweet idea. Going to add something similar to mine now lol. Just subscribed!

Remember end off the day SAW in the wood , STICK on the ice and RUBBER on the road LIFE IS POOR IN THE 709 . 😢
How many cords do you think you have split total? Does your cylinder leak yet? How long do you run your machine at one time? Any dislikes about your machine? I'm thinking about purchasing one thi as weekend. Great video have a great day!
In the last 3 years between what I’ve split for myself and to sell I’ve done 30ish cords plus another 5 or so for my father in-law. How long I split depends on the weather and how much time I have, I run it for 6+ hours in cooler temps and I’ll only go for an hour or so if it’s really hot out. No leaks as of now and I don’t have a single complaint, the machine starts every time and it splits through everything I put in it. Thanks for the support!
