Great career he's had, Groves, Those fantastic nights at Wembley against our very own Carl Froch, That controversial first fight followed by the infamous 80'000 second fight, which unfortunately for Groves he came up short in, But.. still a stellar resume with wins over Degale, the dangerous eubank, Jamie Cox, Chudinov, That 12 round war with Badou Jack over in America, what a fight that was. He's been brilliant has groves, the consummate professional, win, lose or draw, he always gave it his all, british boxing will miss him, and us here at sky will certainly miss him.
Joe Cook Carl has always had a bit of a snobbish attitude and never showed anyone respect. When Groves fought Froch he gained massive popularity because he actually talked shit to Froch and made him very uncomfortable and people loved it.
I didn't like it. I thought it was unnecessarily disrespectful. Still, respect the fighter and the man, but I hated the tone of those two fights. Felt like the casuals got too excited
Always been a fan of Groves. When he talks about Gutknecht you can tell that plays on his mind and that he has a heart. Well done for not listening to the doubters George and getting that world championship.
Seems like yesterday this fella was turning Pro. How time flies. Much respect to George Groves, a quality operator and a proud champion. Getting out at the right time, and thanks for the memories!
Shocking how he was treated throughout his career. Never given a chance, never given a break. Bad luck after bad luck. Still managed to achieve lots in the game.
@Shlomo Bergsteinowitz He's had 3 world title shots Achieved a world title. Fought on the biggest stage infront of one of the biggest crowds at Wemebly. Got to the final of the world Boxing super series as a champion and went out on his shield. Has earned a truck full of money and left the sport in good health. An Amazing intriguing career dispite his losses hence the reason you watched the video had a read through the comment's.
@Shlomo BergsteinowitzI wouldn't say 30 year old with a f#%ked shoulder is Quiting in his prime. Putting Eduard Gutknecht in a coma and disabling him for life changed Grove's. There's nothing wrong in admitting defeat to the better man and knowing when to walk away from boxing as long as he's at peace in doing so. I don't think he will be to arsed about his critic's either way.
Touching story, The guy gave it a go and that takes more courage than what most people on the planet could do. Will be remembered as a brave fighter that feared no challenger. No matter what their level.
Fantastic interview, I dont think anyone will ever forget his first fight with Froch, Just an awesome fight to watch and respect to both of them. Loved George's style, totally different from the norm. A true winner in every way. Enjoy your retirement George, You bloody deserve it
Groves reminds me of a young fighter I train with who has the potential to go far. If you didn't know him you would think he is obnoxious, arrogant and slightly aggressive but he is just really pragmatic about everything. It's refreshing to hear Groves talk so honestly about his successes and failures. Groves has provided everybody with some boxing memories we'll never forget and helped build a platform for this golden era of British boxing.
Love this guy. Absolute gentleman. An English gent. Underrated talent. He was mercuarial in the first Froch fight. He lost a lot of confidence after not Froch confrontations but slowly rebuilt.
The fighter that got me back into boxing after the departure of Calzaghe and Hatton. Cannot wait for the Autobiography....hopefully that'll be out for Christmas.
Underrated fighter. His performance in the first 6 rounds of the first froch fight was one of the best I have ever seen. He would have stopped 99% of Super Middles that night but froch had the best chin in the business.
Agreed mate! If you watch Froch's legs when he gets up from that right-hand in the first round, he's completely gone when he stands up, but his chin meant he could recuperate quickly. Think if that had have been earlier on the round, it could've been a different story altogether.
I’m at the age where I’ve seen boxers of today start and finish their careers, George Groves W/C, is right up there as a true warrior. Thankyou. All the best for the future.
He doesn't get the credit he deserves. His self belief was brilliant. That first Froch fight was so controversial and it was such a fantastic fight. Groves always stepped up to the occasion and even after he got laid out, he came back and won a world title. How can you fault him for that?
Being from Nottingham I was a big Froch fan. However, I have a lot of respect for Groves because of his bravery, tenacity, skill and that bizzare tie he was wearing in the interview with Degale!
I've been watching boxing for a long time but somehow missed Groves. I didn't expect to watch this whole thing but it really drew me in. Glad he got it in the end!
George your an inspiration and credit to boxing. A big Heart and gave 100% every fight you had in the lions den. You retain your insight, mobility and sharp as a tack brain. Well done George
Great piece. Always been a Groves fan. Love his guts and spirit. Made Froch look like an arrogant sod in the first fight and was robbed by Howard Foster IMO but came back and won his title. Retired at the right time. Good luck George.
What a terrific guy, and intelligent. It's obvious in his dissection of the list of potentials in any direction, win or loss....against an opponent, and knowing life exists outside the ring....and other things are important. I'd love to see more people like this terrific guy.
I started to follow at the end of his career, he was underrated fighter. Had one of the most beatiful and efective body punch, when we was covering(counter-attacking!) he was always a gentlema, now i know why. He should make more fight, he´s on his prime!! Great champ!!
I’ve watched that Froch first fight many times, it still makes my shit itch!! Wish he could have continued with Booth(unbeaten together) I think he would have been the champ a lot sooner. Respect for the mind games too. Always spoke truths, some people just don’t recognise them. Class act.
I am a massive boxing fan and I love George, he is an absolute Gentleman. Fantastic boxer and genuine person. I would love to have a beer you with mate!
Some of the best boxing nights! It was so good to support George and be part of Team Saint George Groves! Thank you George for stepping up and doing your best 😀👍 Enjoy your retirement and look back with pride! Well done champ 👊👍
You have to give it to George Groves in that first fight with Carl Froch. For the first six to seven rounds Groves out jabbed and outboxed Froch. Only sheer will from Froch and Howard Foster being over protective in stopping the fight prematurely meant that George Groves was robbed of the opportunity to beat Carl Froch. That being said Groves did look tired and Froch was coming back strong.
Credit to the sport, here was a man who had set back after set back but kept on coming. I was over the moon for him when he eventually became a world Champion
A credit to the sport, a role model to the youth. You did England proud George. Absolute legend
It Was All A Dream twat more like
Nottingham Forest Froch fanboy are we?
@@beardtrick he's from Nottingham he's a forest fan why wouldn't I be.
Nottingham Forest why do you think groves is a twat?
@@lewispewsey6843 what's bothering you Bro?
James Degale: "Let me tell you something...forgot what i was gonna say now" Groves: "sounds about right" had me in stitches
Same. Funny as fuck
Hahaha same here pure classic moment

Jesus christ its like adam smith is in the room with us
I always liked groves. Big froch guy. From the USA. Never understood why it seemed more British loved George and hated karl.
Why?

This is a guy I was happy to see get the belt.
Got wiser with age and turned into a real class act, well done GG. Thanks for all the great fights through the years, Top man!
The most refreshingly honest self assessment of any boxer I’ve seen a credit to the sport
Always been a fan of Groves. When he talks about Gutknecht you can tell that plays on his mind and that he has a heart. Well done for not listening to the doubters George and getting that world championship.
He retired a while ago BT beat you to it. A very good intelligent fighter. I appreciate him more now he has retired.

Nobody cares where u r from mate
A genuine credit to boxing. An incredibly exciting career to have followed! Enjoy retirement champ!
Said it on BT's tribute to Grove's and ill say it on this. He had the best jab in the buisness!!!
Agree his jab was a power jab and it was just a beautiful shot
Yeh I remember thinking that watching groves a few yrs ago , totally agree

Shlomo Bergsteinowitz what have you ever achieved in life ?, I’ll take a shot at nothing. Probably never stepped in the ring either.
Quality fighter.
The build up to the froch bouts was absolutely incredible.

6:35 Adam Booth giving it to team Degale haha! They’ll never admit it, but I think deep down they were both very disappointed to split

Don’t really approve of boxing, but sometimes you have stop and admire the heart that goes in it. What a remarkably brave and thoughtful man.
