I know!! I heard the soundtrack during a musical binge at work and was absolutely blown away. So of course I went to see if there are any Broadway scenes. COME TO FIND OUT EVERY PERFORMANCE WAS DONE BY PEOPLE WHO JUST REALLY LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK. Like.... That's amazing and while I'm sad there isnt a Broadway show there are other shows to watch.
@@nicolerobertson2654 yeah it didn't make it because broadway wanted to cut some of the people in the ensemble and they said "no, either you have all of us or none of us" so they were like, okay fuck you. and they kicked them out and cancelled them coming to broadway
shrek should never have been a musical, shrek was meant to defy traditional disney musicals sure it slaps but it doesn’t fit in a parody especially since the musical should never exist in the first place
I know a lot of people dislike Shrek the musical but it got me through A LOT. Like, specifically the line "being liked is grossly overated" really hits different when you're lonely. Ik this sounds kinda sad but I honestly think it's really underrated and it has an amazing message.
THE BUILD UP IN GOD HELP THE OUTCASTS!! When the ensambl lo e starts w the "i ask for wealth" all the way to "bless me!" IS MY FAVORITE PART OF THAT SONG! My favorite part of Hunchback is in Esmeralda when Frodo starts "The devil dwells in Esmeralda" to the end, chills every time
i saw frozen the musical in the westend a few months ago.. CHILLS !! elsa was played by the actor who played eponine in the les mis film, would 100% recommend
4:52 God I wish it was like this on the soundtrack version. The delay, the rasp and the pure emotion in his voice is just something else. The way he effortlessly glides the note through to the end. Just butters my egg roll.
Ayoo!! Anastasia is one of my absolute favorites. My husband and I have seen it twice now, and I gotta share something with you. When we saw the last tour, the guy who sang Stay, I Pray You, was absolutely incredible. There's a bootleg of him singing the song, look up "stay I pray you, Christian Mcqueen". I hope you like it!
Be more chill is what introduced me to musical theatre and it got me through a really hard time and I still have so many shows to experience that will certainly have an impact on me but I’m so thankful for it for that reason. Also I was privileged enough to see it on Broadway and the Broadway experience is so absolutely incredible.
Michael Arden is one of the most talented people living. Not only is he an insanely talented actor and singer, but he directed some of the best revivals Broadway has seen in the last few years. Each with a very original and breathtaking reinvention of a well worn show. It's pretty amazing.
HUNCHBACK WAS SO UNDERRATED LIKE, NOT ONLY FOR CIARA, I CLICKED BECAUSE OF HER ACTUALLY BUT MICHEAL ARDEN???? PLEASE, HIS VOICE IN OUT THERE AND HEAVEN’S LIGHT WAS WONDERFUL, AND LETS NOT TALK ABOUT PATRICK PAGE. the whole musical is so freaking underrated, I love it.
Yes Ciara Renee being mentioned 3 times! I mean hunchback is amazing but she brings it to a whole other level! Also love the Anastasia moments! so powerful.
Ok not enough people talk about you will not touch him from miss saigon and I’m so happy you mentioned it because when I saw it live I literally burst into tears and started shaking it was INTENSE
I think that if you don't get a chill listening to the last part of Phantom of the Opera when Christine reaches that super high note you are very blind to the sheer talent anyone has to hit that. It just makes me shiver it's that good.
Yes. I saw Anastasia live; when the Romaovs came into the background I internally gasp. I cant explain it, the staging of that moment in the number is perfect. I cant imagine Still/Neva Flows (Reprise) without the Romaovs in the background behind the glass doors.
@@gaetissue I did enjoy seeing it live. I will note, it wasn’t the Broadway production but the touring company I saw live. That doesn’t change my experience at all. Anastasia was my favorite movie growing up so I was so excited already. Then Anastasia ended up being the last show I saw before quarantine hit last year. Anastasia the musical holds a place in my heart for those two reasons: 1. Favorite movie growing up & 2. Last show I’ve seen in over a year (my family has been season tickets holders to our big city’s theatre district for 5 years).
Genuinely dont like Hamilton as a whole but Pippa’s delivery of “you, you, you” in burn is so fucking amazing how it just transitions from accusatory to just grieving in only three words is so perfect
That is CHILD'S PLAY compared to seeing the acting live. If you see that show live, it is the most transcendent experience possible. I 1,000,000,000% recommend it if any nearby theater is doing a performance!
I know the song isn't in here but So Big/So Small always gets me, the song is so heart wrenching yet simple at the same. It leaves me crying every time.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Eva screamed in HARMONY with the music during you will not touch him?!?!?! The talent to scream IN HARMONY WITH THE MUSIC?!?
For a long time, I thought the most impressive numbers always had the shocking notes and harmonies. But after I heard 5:20, my entire viewpoint of musical theatre has shifted from that singular line of melody. What. A. Song.
Thanks for making me cry so much... For good will never not kill me. Especially not now, my vocal coach will move to another city and she brought me so far... And we will sing a Duett of this is our last lesson... She is the best coach I could wish for
I saw Hunchback of Notre Dame live in a community theater, and IT. WAS. TRANSCENDENT. I cried, and I am not ashamed to admit that. Seeing that show live is the single greatest experience I've ever had the distinct pleasure of experiencing. I have no qualms with calling it the greatest musical ever.
Sierra Boggess in general has me on my knees sobbing because I love her so much. Also all of the Wicked clips had me sobbing because that musical means the entire world to me and more
the first clip threw me off for a sec bc i always forget that shrek is a musical. but anything that sutton foster is in is automatically good so its fine
I really did get emotional with the “Once and for all” melody change, and I have never seen that musical. And also with the school of rock clip, like DUDE
in my school we have a christmas program every year with the 1st greater playing mary, joseph, animals, shepherds, etc., and each grade kindergarten through 8th grade sings a song. one year the theme of the show was christmas on broadway. the opening song that the whole school sang was seize the day from newsies and it made half the audience cry. it was amazing, 8th graders on the stage when the massive curtains opening, 2nd through 5th graders standing along the walls of the auditorium, 6ths and 7th graders on risers on the sides of the stage, and 1st graders onstage with the 8th graders, all of us singing loud and beautifully.
Who I’d Be is underrated. Especially the part “We'd stand and stare, we'd speak of love We'd feel the stars ascending, we'd share a kiss I'd find my destiny, I'd have a hero's ending A perfect happy ending, that's how it would be” Brian D’Arcy James goes OFF right there and I feel all Shrek’s feels and it has always been like an arrow through my heart!
first clip being shrek means all following clips will also have incredible taste
exactly
Precisely
THAT’S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY!
DITTO!! I totally thought that too
exactly. the songs in shrek are sooo slept on.
It’s an actual crime that Hunchback never made it to Broadway
Wait WHAT?!?!???
IT DIDN'T?!

hunchback not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES???! i’m subscribing
I’m so glad that the Hunchback has been getting so much love in the past few years
Can someone just write a whole musical for Ciara Renée, Michael Arden, Sierra boggess, Ramin Karimloo and Rachel tucker? It needs to happen!

Fun Fact: in high school, when we did Shrek the musical, on the last night, Shrek sang "being liked is grossly ogre-rated" and it was beautiful!
the hunchback musical is so GORGEOUS and so underrated
