Structural High Blood Pressure- Neck instability can affect blood pressure, even in healthy people

  • Ross Hauser, MD explains how the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves are involved in regulating blood pressure and how these nerves can be impaired due to upper cervical instability, resulting in abnormal blood pressure. This can happen in otherwise healthy people, which can leave the patient and provider frustrated and trying medications that may not be the best long term option.

Hey Dr Hauser, as a long-time subscriber with chronic symptoms myself, I genuinely want to thank you so much for fighting to bring cervical instability into the light. Just reading the comments on your videos it's almost unbelievable to me how many other people are suffering without treatment for their dysautonomia and conditions related to the upper spine. And to anyone else reading this who might be in a lot of pain, you are not alone. Keep learning and smiling and counting each blessing. Never give up, you never know when luck might meet you. Let's remember that each year we are being blessed more and more with medical treatment more readily available to us through channels like this one!

Is there a list of Dr.s as knowable on neck issues as Dr. Hauser?
I have terrible left side neck pain that's been getting worse for 22 years. It's electrified pain going between left shoulder blade and left side of the tongue and all points in between.
Have big calcium welding vertebrae together.
VA hospital Dr's call it a pre existing personality disorder.
    It's affecting blood pressure now.
I would cut off an arm or leg if that's where the pain was, can't cut head off!
This Dr. Is far the most knowledgeable I've ever herd!
Information on the subject of the neck is rare and priceless.
Most are clueless on the subject.

I have HTN and tachycardia. I’m on 3 BP medications. I have lost my gag reflex and have extremely sensitive eyes to the point that I’m developing ptosis and have difficulty opening my eyes. That’s just the tip of the iceberg with my issues! I have gastroparesis, daily tinnitus, chronic neck pain and cracking/crunching. Honestly…too many symptoms to list. I really need to mage an appointment!

Could damage to the vagus nerve cause my right arm to measure considerably higher blood pressure than my left? I bought a vagus nerve stimulator product and began using it. Then noticed a 'whooshing' sound in my right ear only which led to discovering the difference in blood pressure on that side. And it seems like my body can't regulate. It will be high one day and then low the next. And sometimes 30 points difference on the top number between the arms.

Can craniocervical instability cause random vomiting and dry heaving? Nearly every day I wake up and dry heave like clockwork. I dont even feel sick most times. Just a spasm like feeling in the back of my throat and a gagging feeling. Its not acid reflux, GERD, or anything like that.

You probably have transient axonal transport injury from sustained mild compression/traction. Could also be vascular compression of nerve roots, often the PICA artery making contact with one or more of the cranial nerves (there's a new paper out on this).

BP? i commonly have anxiety and panic attacks due to poor posture and neck instability, but my high BP seems to be always on the Diastolic (normally between 80-90)? Can compression of the vagus nerve cause adrenal and cortisol to rise?

    • @u2b83
      @u2b83 10 місяців тому +2

While the vagus nerve itself does not directly cause an increase in cortisol or adrenal activity, conditions that compress or otherwise impair the function of the vagus nerve could potentially contribute to a dysregulated stress response. This is because if the vagus nerve is unable to perform its usual function of promoting relaxation and reducing stress, the sympathetic nervous system (which triggers the stress response) may become more dominant.

I have high blood pressure & sinus tachycardia & I was diagnosed with it after my car accident(never had it) I also had an acute concussion, and after the accident,my heart rate would go up 160-180 , shortness of breath , high blood pressure, dizziness no matter what I was doing had to immediately lay down & had tons of chest pain & pressure in left arm. Everything came back normal with primary & ER VISITS. Pushed to see a cardiologist they diagnosed w tachycardia. Primary doctor got a couple high readings of blood pressure we started to monitor it. A month or so by after the accident I still didn’t feel good , I noticed that my bowel movement began to slow down, at first after the accident I was constantly having bowel movements (from nervousness) & then it just turned into constipation &. But I asked to get an ultra sound to be sure nothing was wrong turns out I have sludge in my gallbladder…. Fast forward still feeling off so I pushed for an mri, because I was constantly feeling dizzy, like I was going to pass out, off balance & felt my body leaning to one side as I would walk or stand ,I just felt really off with lots of tension headaches . We found a cavernous malformation in my right frontal lobe .. then I found out I was pregnant the same day I got that news, so time goes by seen a neurologist, he doesn’t think the malformation is the cause for all the dizziness& off balance & headaches & stated I was born with it & will keep an eye on it..and we can’t do much since I’m pregnant. But then I finally see an ent, because I feel like I would have a lot of pressure in my face around my right eye / ears/ throat & he said everything looks normal if anything changes to come back.. now waiting to be seen again because I started hearing my heart beat in right ear, a wooshing sounds, and weird tingling feeling & when I turn my head to the left I can hear my heart beat & sometime when I move I can hear it speed up and slow down & experiencing lots of headaches around my temporal lobe & it’s very sensitive to touch, in that area & it’s become very bother some and worry some. I’m still dealing with high blood pressure , doc bearly want to start me on meds & I’m already going into my 3rd trimester& still seeing a cardiologist to be sure the palpitations & flutters & skipped beats are nothing serious. Because after I eat my blood pressure rises & my heart rate goes up, I can’t stand in the shower for to long without getting dizzy or my heart rate jumping , I am 25 years old and I just don’t feel healthy at all. I have come across a doctor that told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because what I was feeling is just anxiety, I was told by a labor & delivery nurse I should just suck up my symptoms like she tell her 12 year old son , and that I need not to overthink them & many other responses everything looks “normal” & it told it doesn’t sound like pots either & I’m like okay what do I do now? I will not stop advocating for myself & standing up for myself either, I will always get a second opinion, but was thinking if I should try getting adjusted by a chiropractor

I'm 60 next January. I've got Hight BP getting readings as high as 210/113. I'm running 40 miles per week and swimming 5 miles per week. I can run 5K in 18.30. I'm not overweight only 67kg for 171cm. I don't drink alcohol or smoke. I've tried everything to get it to normal numbers. My doctor wants me on meds, but so far refused them. The thing is after I've been running, my heart rate is about 60-65 and the BP comes down to maybe 150/92. But gradually as my pulse gets lower down to 42, my BP goes back up to 180/100 and more. So low heart rate, high BP. I often have s very stiff neck, and now wondering if this is why my BP is high.

I have had a case of lightheadedness for 7 years now. I have been to my regular doctor, cardiologist, neurologist. Vein doctor, physical therapy, eye, ear, nose throat doctor and no one has been able to help . I had a pacemaker put in after being diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome…bradycardia. Still lightheaded. Put on BP meds 19 years now with bouts of high BP that warranted ER visit twice. Highest was 221/131. Changed diet. Was taken off BP meds a month and a half ago and experiencing some spikes in pressure but I can control with deep breathing and acupressure. Still lightheaded and feel miserable when BP is low….like one reading of 78/49.
Any suggestions to further explore some alternatives that I haven’t tried? I am a senior and would like to have some normalization before I pass. 🙏

Spinal and Cerebellar Injury: Injury to the spine and cerebellum can indeed lead to complex neurological and autonomic symptoms. The C1 region and the cerebellum are critical for various functions, including coordination, balance, and autonomic control.
Role of Hormones: Hormones can have a profound effect on various bodily functions, including blood pressure and heart rate. It's possible that hormonal fluctuations could exacerbate your symptoms.
Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD): This is a condition that can occur in individuals with spinal cord injuries, leading to sudden and severe high blood pressure. It's a medical emergency and needs to be managed carefully.
Concerns about RVLM and Basilar Artery: The Rostral Ventrolateral Medulla (RVLM) is involved in blood pressure regulation, and any damage to it could potentially affect this regulation. The basilar artery, being a major blood supply to the brain, if compromised, can also have significant implications.
