Good Day ! I really enjoyed your Video . I still remember talking to older guys very long ago regarding first generation mechanical fuel injection . This being a WW11 great big V12 Messerschmitt engines . The retired men spoke of taking the engine out of a crashed ME 109 or BF 109 in France during WW11 . Then trying to secretly move the engine to England for disassembly and inspection . Allied forces knew of "Mechanical Fuel Injection" but had never seen it all put together . The Messerschmitt camshaft was indeed a very interesting thing for them .

Not gonna lie, at the beginning of the video I was cringing a lot but by the end of the video I was really vibing with your energy. Really great video!
Donut Media, thank you for all these educational videos. It has helped me a lot. Especially when working on my 4x4. I hope y'all do a diesel engine comparison from ford, GM and Dodge.
I like this, much much better than learning about how probability is blah blah blah because things are random and have no definite assurance that a coin will flip a certain way.
You missed one kind of injectors there are also pressure driven injectors which don’t require electronics to work but get operated just by the pressure which is sent to them which presses the diesel fuel through a tiny fitting which houses the tip of the injector movable upwards, when now a certain pressure (they are rated in pressure categories) gets sent into the injector it opens and Sprays the fuel mechanically without the need for computers 😊 its normally a lower pressure of 250 bar for example
Don't F1 engines that run on gas use indirect injection as well? Ignition is initiated in a pre-ignition chamber that then send several columns of flames through numerous holes into the main chamber in different directions to evenly distribute ignition.
@@DTLfan396 so did sky sports and the restriction did lead to the innovation to maximize efficiency and power output. I asked mostly cause I wasn't sure if the f1 implementation would be considered indirect injection as it's slightly different than the one he just talked about in diesel engines.
You know what I think would be an interesting one even though you already did turbos and anti lag which thank you very much for doing my suggestion wastegate internal and external
May want to read up on Diesels, between this and the jake brake episode theres some key points wrong. As in a pre-combustion chamber is to reduce pressure in the precombustion chamber to run lower injection fuel pressures. The ritch mixture then travels to the combustion chamber. Glow plugs are not needed during running, only starting. We don’t use seperate jake brake rocker arms-we use electric solenoids and oil pressure to activate the normal exhaust rocker at different events. Cummins typically only ever have 1 cam, with the exception of the ISX. Unless you include the cam in some fuel pumps, but again almost every Cummins from the 40’s and earlier up use a PT fuel system(pressure time). And diesel injectors are not at all similar to gasoline. They are mechanically or hydraulically injected, sometimes being electronically timed/metered
After learning about gear meshing on tilted cut gears vs straight cut gears, gearboxes, transmissions, big turbos vs small turbos vs twin turbos vs sequential turbos, superchargers, hydraulic pistons, direct vs indirect fuel injection, air to fuel mixture and ignition timing, I think it's time I watch the video on carburetors.
I look forward to science garage every week, one small rich asterisk. 14.7 is stoic for gasoline. other fuels have different ratios. and since direct injection allows you to spray fuel when the valve is closed you can control cylinder temperatures by spraying in some fuel which allows you to run slight more advanced timing. You guys should do a science garage on tires.
The content, of course goes with out saying, is amazing. But I want to shout out to the animators that create colorful dust clouds every time Bart hits the kitchen island. It’s the little things
These are great videos! Little less jokes @ the writers. Your content and delivery is plenty entertaining without the dad jokes. Love them all, keep 'em coming please!
It was a great video. Sometimes I think if a standard injection system is this complex, how much worse is it to work on injectors/engines in BMWs, Land Rovers, Jaguars, etc.
Glow plugs aren't only for IDI diesels. Basically all diesels have them to aid with proper compression ignition during cold starts and they're only really used during the pre-ignition warm up. Once the engine is already running, the glowplugs have no purpose
