  • The Canon EOS Rebel XS (EOS 1000D, Kiss F) was a capable and feature-packed, for its time, entry-level DSLR. The camera provided a number of important features such as ultrasonic sensor cleaning and acceptance of SD cards instead of CF cards, that made it a much more accessible and usable camera for a general and entry-level audience.
    This three-part series provides a near-complete rundown on how to use the Canon EOS Rebel XS. The first video covers the camera's general layout and interface and provides a summary of the camera's place in history and what everything on the camera is. The second video provides a detailed manual on how to use all the functions and what they do to affect and influence your photography. The third video is a detailed examination of the camera's menus and custom functions. Video 3 provides explanations of what each menu and custom function item is and how it affects your photography.

    I've had this camera for many years and never opened the box. I am finally going to try and learn digital photography! I'll follow on video 2 and 3. Thank you for the intro.

    Thank you so much for these three videos. I just inherited a 1000-d from my son, and didn’t really get to grips with the manual. It is my first DSLR having previously owned several bridge cameras and way back having had the loan of an earlyish Nikon DSLR with such a huge amount of kit it left me utterly intimidated. I have taken a few photos already with this one, not that happy with them, after a summer using my iPhone and really getting some quite nice shots. Having said that the iPhones limitations were really getting to me. I know this is going to give me way more options even though it is a little elderly now. I was reassured to find that others are still using it! I started with your second video then came back for this one and am going on to the third. Thanks in particular for clear explanation of the various modes and how other options were available with them. I am already hankering for a couple of lens options having the 18-55 kit lens only. I didn’t need a newer camera bristling with all sorts of new features. What a great set of videos these are for any new owner. And I see you also have a host of videos on SLR’s which are my first love, having several which are now too expensive to use, but are lovely cameras in their own right. So I shall be looking more…

      Lindy, I got this camera new and it’s been on the shelf for years. Recently I got it out because of the long range limitations of my smart phone. First thing I did was bought what was considered to be the unofficial number 2 lens for this camera, 75-300 f4-5.6 …. They run about $80 on eBay. Obviously it’s a “beginner” quality lens, but long range beginner quality for DSLRs is still pretty good vs the smart phone/bridge camera world.

    ありがとう. I saw this KissF at my recycle store (Yorozuya in case others want to know) here in Japan and I was shocked because I’ve never heard about it before. It was for 8000¥ which is cheap for a Canon I think. I’ll probably drive back later to get it (depending on this vid) for my 10 yr old to get her interested in photography. ThankS a million

    Thank you for this video. I bought this camera in 2009 when I came back from a military deployment and had a lot of money to just throw away. I always liked photography but I wasn't very serious about it as a 19-year-old .I haven't used it in years but I'm curious, can this camera still take great quality photos in 2021? I have really gotten more and more into photography with each new smartphone that comes out. The cameras have improved. My new pixel 6 pro has an amazing camera and I feel like crossing over back into the DSLR world and really growing from there. But I didn't know if this camera could still take great photos because I know how fast technology has evolved in the past 10 years, but I don't know if that's the same for a camera as far as image quality. I know it's entry level but I still have to assume it can probably be out most of today's smartphones?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 роки тому +1

      This camera can still outclass most smartphones, yes. Smartphones can do video, which this one can't, but these are good and coupled with a good lens they work very well.

    @David Hancock. Hi David, How do you turn on the LCD Display instead of just using that small view finder... This is the model Canon I have. I just can't remember where I made that adjustment with the first XS-1000D Camera I had... lol it's like having to re-learn this camera all over again...

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  Рік тому

      I think that's covered in video 3. IIRC m and it's been a while since I recorded this, there's a display button that controls that and there's a menu options for how that works.

    I bought this camera to get into photography with as a new hobby, how do I know if aftermarket lenses fit this camera??.. btw, the video was awesome- thank you!

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  Рік тому

      Thank you! You will need an aftermarket EF or EF-S lens. If it is an older lens, film-era, it will likely NOT work. If it's newer, it might. Were it me, I would ask any online seller if their lens will work and if they accept returns if it won't. If the answer is no to either, someone else will have better policies.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 роки тому +3

      Well, there's not one way to take good photos, and what is a good photo can be largely subjective. My goal is that you'll understand your camera and can then more quickly get to the long-term study of how to learn to take good photos.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  11 місяців тому +1

      @@OgDj2024 Got it. It can't record video internally but if you connected the camera with the video output and had the proper software (I don't know what software you would use for a camera this old) then it could be used to record video in the way that a webcam, for insurance, could be used to record video. It is a thing that this camera can do, but I don't know the details about how to do it
